I feel as if once i get toward the end of the Pie the program tends to say my answers are wrong and forces me to keep doing the same topic. Over and over again. And the knowledge checks? Only push you back further. This is possibly one of the worst ways to learn math.
The knowledge checks are incredibly overpowered
You can complete half of the freaking class in like an hour, you just need to get good
I'm in 10th grade geometry, and I've done 237 of 524 topics in literally a week
That's half of the class completed in a week, just because of the knowledge checks!
This is my 5th time having to taking College Algebra through Alex. I am trying to become a Veterinarian and it is funny because I have been told that Veterinary school would be my undoing. But no it's College Algebra and Alex. I went into this course being able to do complex math problems in my head or on paper without assistance. Now I do not even trust myself to add or subtract without the aid of a calculator. The learning application states that they promote confidence in learning but actually the opposite is happening. I remember getting completely reset on a math topic because I did not add a comma where they did not say I needed one. Now I have ADHD, dyslexia, and a tbi which makes this particular application of math learning impossible. This platform is not accessible at all. I am far ahead of the class and still having to do the same amount of work meaning I will finish over 2 months ahead of the class but then I'll start getting penalized in the grade book for not continuing to work on topics. The instructions are vague if at all; growing up we are taught to write out each and every step in a math problem to get full credit. But with Alex they like to skip over multiple steps and assume you can read their minds. The U. S Department of Education is full of criminals who need to pay for the damage they have cost everyone. I know they owe me personally thousands of dollars and that doesn't even cover the emotional trauma I have sustained while taking their course. I just finished taking a 7 week long Biology course that was easier than this. And that's saying something. Once I complete the course in December I will be writing the U. S Department of Education a lengthy letter. And if I could afford to I would sue but I can't because I have had to take this class 5 times and now I am broke. If you do not want to be a medical professional, or another profession that requires math stop what you are doing and run as fast as you can away from this absolute atrocity the country wants to call a math program.
My son, Mark, was doing his Aleks topics when he picked up a Glock and boom. Nine years of his life were just wasted because of a pathetic, disgusting, hopeless math website. I want my son back.
This app is so stupid and hasn't helped me learn anything besides tactics to help me cheat the system.
Sorry for any student that has to do any problem on this ratchet mess. Shameful how pixels can drive someone to the nut house. A grain of sand can have more IQ than me after using aleks. I'm in 8th grade and I did this since 4th. FRICKING GRADE. This site is 100 times scarier than Abby Lee Miller, which says a lot if you ask me. Learning Harry Potter spells is easier than dividing on ALEKS. Below is a pic of BENOFTHEWEEK. Please use this photo to cleanse your mind if you've used ALEKS.
This is the worst online math software ever and my school uses it, I don't even have to explain the reasons, just look at the reviews.
My teacher wants us to actually do work but it doesn't help us learn anything it's just confusing because the topics weren't learned
First of all, the explanations for the questions you get wrong are very crappy, the only thing they do is give you the answer and some extra words in said explanation. When getting a question wrong, it resets your progress making you stuck on that topic even more. I hate Alex.
Aleks uses a method of "learning" where it poorly teaches subjects and then has you do practice questions to progress. Aside from the fact that you usually have to teach yourself how to do much of the work since their instructions are ridiculously vague, Aleks also uses a system that punishes you and takes away your progression for getting the question wrong, even if it is an extremely minor mistake. It lets you try to correct that mistake you made, but since you'd most likely be extremely confused and angry at this point anyway, there's a pretty minor chance of you being able to find and correct that mistake, and the "hints" they give to help you are borderline useless. Sometimes they will also swap the format of your answer, I guess to see if you are really paying attention, but the result is a cheap trick that sets you back and only adds to the frustration rather than actually helping you learn the topic. This is more specific to me, but my professor assigns heavy amounts of Aleks homework but doesn't teach the same material in class that we are "learning" in Aleks, which gives the impression that some teachers/professors see Aleks as a way to substitute actual teaching in their classrooms. If I wanted to learn these subjects better, I'd go with Khan Academy. Aleks is just a confusing, frustrating, punishing mess. If they ever claim that their "students" learn the subjects more efficiently, it's not their site that does it, it's the students figuring it out themselves.
I see many people out there going crazy about how ALEKS is such a bad site to use for education but I really think ALEKS is a great site pushing kids to success. Most of the people on here writing bad reviews are other kids who are failing their math class because they can't seem to keep up with ALEKS. ALEKS provides an explanation for the problem that you fail on aswell. In my experience, ALEKS has always seemed like a good site for education.
Only used by teachers who can't properly do their jobs and expect students to teach themselves not to mention the practice math is almost always incorrect compared to the real questions, I wish my school cared enough to do away with it but sadly they wern't
You've heard it all before. That just cements the fact that there is something seriously wrong with it.
THIS THING F%#KING SUCKS, IVE RATHER EAT DOG SH^T THEN USE ALEK I HATE IT IT MADE MY FRIEND JUMP INTO A CAR
This is by far the most disgusting and the most selfish disregard for your time. Instead of using your time actually learning, you are wasting it on this app. I wonder if Aleks actually bothers reading these reviews. Ask your teachers not to use this. I hope they go out of business. It marks you wrong, when it's right. You cannot move on, adds more questions. You are absolutely stuck in a black hole without learning. ALEKS IS A SCAM. Do better aleks. How about you check out how much time people spend on it and then consider if they enjoy spending most their life on here. DISGUSTING.
This program has made me have a mental breakdown multiple times. I am not very good at math but when i truly learn a math topic i really learn it. Aleks has made me forget multiple topics. The way ALEKS is setup actually hurts the students learning. The knowledge checks are annoying and don't even let you do your work and the aleks program itself is terrible its built around topics where you have to do multiple topics except aleks explains the topic horribly. The explanations boil down to "just do it". The UI and Accessibility is also awful. The only good thing about aleks is the assignments which even then is the bare bones and other websites do it better. Do i recommend ALEKS? No. Also for any teachers reading this while it isn't a true replacement freckle.com is pretty good compared to ALEKS its also free.
Ok im gonna be honest, what the hell kind of $#*!ty website is this? Because of this website, i have never felt more un-happy in my entire life. This website gives you and me so much bull$#*! that its unbelieveable.
Aleks is just so annoying, how the knowledge checks are random and it is soooo boring. I already know this stuff, and I don't need to learn it in the most boring way. I have to do it every day and I dread it.
This site has brought me and my kids tears and suicidal thoughts. Why would teachers do this to our babies. I've never wanted to commit treason so much in my life. If Helen Keller was real she could teach me more through her mumbles and moans.
This website is worse than the Bengals losing the super bowl. Hellen Keller could teach me more than this website.
Answer: Because the ALEKS program is literal hell and we people are just showing our hatred for it
Answer: Most likely.
Answer: Yes deal with it
Answer: Because people want to commit suicide in an original way, and ALEKS is the best way.
Answer: I don't think so but believe me a class action suit would be an improvement
Answer: I paid over $150 for this sumbi**h, I expect it to work
Answer: No i do not think the website owner has issued one but I think the feelings for aleks would be "down the toilet"
Answer: I realize this reply is very late but in case for anyone who needs it: -Let's say you're learning how to use long division. They have 3 questions in it. You master the first one, then go on to the next one. You get the second one wrong, guess what? They punish you and take back your first answer so now you have to answer it again. -How fun! And don't forget the useless knowledge checks!
