Airbnb Reviews Summary

Airbnb's reputation is significantly marred by persistent complaints regarding its customer service and the quality of listings. Customers frequently express frustration over inadequate support, particularly in resolving issues related to cleanliness and safety at properties. Many report feeling unsafe or misled by inaccurate listings, leading to financial losses and dissatisfaction. Conversely, some users have had positive experiences with Airbnb Luxe, highlighting exceptional service and quality accommodations. Overall, while there are isolated instances of satisfaction, the overarching sentiment reflects a concerning trend of unreliable service and a lack of accountability towards both guests and hosts.

Airbnb did nothing to help our situation, they only side with the hosts, we paid over $2300 for 11 nights, stayed for 2 as the place was not suitable, it was not 3 bedrooms as described, the balcony room was cold and constant noise from the street, the door didnt lock, the other one described as a den was a converted closet, too small for an adult. The host stated the homeless people were harmless, we were approached a couple of times where we felt unsafe so we left!
I would not recommend Airbnb or this Host.

We have had several smooth situations with airbnb, but we definitely learned after our last experience, that we will be left high and dry if things don't go right and we need help.

We found ourselves in airports for two days and a night with our kids, and when learning all hotels were full in the middle of it, decided to try airbnb. After paying for a rental car by phone from our gate, we booked the only home we could find available on airbnb, and made our way across the airport and outside to the car rentals. The host communication was above and beyond the entire time we were updating her on our circumstances and making our decision to stay, and bent several policies for us in order to allow us to book in the middle of the night. Upon getting to the car rental counter, however, we were told that because of all the canceled flights and weather, every company had NO cars available - including ours - no buses were running that time of night, and uber was going to charge $400.

Less than an hour after we pressed "book" on the app, I let our host know that we were unable to get to the property and had to cancel. However - somehow now that they had the $700 that we paid to use the house for 10 hours, no policy bending happened!

I would have hoped that by getting airbnb involved, airbnb would act as a middle man to help us work with the homeowner and advise each side in order to come to an agreeable compromise. But the message was - too bad. The homeowner doesn't want to give you your money back.

So we slept on the cold airport floor with our kids that night, and the house cleaners had a real easy day the next morning at the house we paid for with their $300 cleaning fee.

Each time as an airbnb guest we always go above and beyond with our communication and our care of the properties we rent. It's disappointing that airbnb wasn't there to help us when we faced a really big problem as we encountered several obstacles during this event, including the entire month after getting home that we spent communicating around it. The added financial strain of the $700 to our trip because of the issue with airbnb was a big one, and we are definitely highly disappointed with the outcome. After this experience, we won't be as trusting of the goodwill of homeowners toward their guests, or of airbnb's ability to step in and help when it comes to gray areas that aren't covered by general policy, where it seems guests are only being treated as commodities rather than human beings.

I've been a superhost for 7 years and most of the time issues are resolved quickly. However they had a KNOWN GLITCH that reduced prices to far below market value. Fiona refuses to remedy the situation and has the dates blocked that I need open for revenue upwards of $10,000. This should be an easy fix, instead she's making it into a major ordeal. Selling my Airbnb stock and moving to VRBO. Too many fees to spend my time advocating for DAYS trying to remedy is error on their part!

While customer service was fantastic in 2013 when I first became a host for airbnb, it is literally non-existent at this point. Your wait will be anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour before you even get to speak to somebody who has had minimal training - and most likely won't be able to help you, but will keep you on the phone another hour or so. Somehow my account got hacked in recently, and was put on instant book, which I myself would never ever ever have done, because I don't like instant book and what it stands for.
I was out of country when a guest who had never communicated with me, showed up on my property and scared my tenants half to death!
I have no idea if the hacking was an Insider job, or perhaps even by this very guest, but it has left me feeling incredibly unsafe.
It took more than half a dozen customer service agents to even find a way for me to temporarily unlist my property!
In 2013, 14, 15 and 16, this call would have taken less than 5 minutes, and the agent would have helped me to make sure that I was not listed while I was traveling; but now, nobody seems to know what they're doing any longer, and of course no supervisor can ever be called, nor can I reach a supervisor!
We hosts are stuck with staff that is underpaid and certainly under trained, and often has no idea what it is we need, and how to take care of our need. All of this while the owners of Airbnb probably are trillionaires by now, and just couldn't care less what happens to hosts!

Bad service by airbnb
February 20, 2022

I had a confirmed booking and on the day of checkin I got a canceled message. I called the host and she was equally surprised as it was canceled by airbnb. I found out from airbnb they canceled as my ID copy they had was not clear. My question is why bring this on check in date!

Airbnb has customer service but when there is a problem they do not get involved nor do you have an exit when you rent for a month. We arrived and the very first morning the condo below us had a jackhammer operator who removed 1400 square feet of tile in the condo below us FOR FIVE DAYS. They opened a case file but said there's nothing we can do about it. NEVER will we use Airbnb again.

Buyer, beware
February 18, 2022

So, so disappointed with my first and last experience with Airbnb. I paid 50% upfront to rent a place, then had about a month or so to pay the remaining balance. Between the time that I made the initial payment and had the balance due, my credit card was subject to fraud and the bank cancelled my card and issued me a new one. I completely forgot to update my credit card information on the Airbnb site (it had been weeks since I reserved the place). 1 day before our trip, I logged into Airbnb and it said that my booking was 'cancelled' and the place re-booked my reservation to someone else, and took my $ ($283). She said that Airbnb sent her a message saying that I cancelled the reservation. I did not cancel the reservation, but my second payment did not go through because my credit card information was not updated. I *never* got an email or phone call warning me that the second payment didn't go through. At *any* other establishment, I would have been notified via email or phone and given the opportunity to update my credit card information and keep the booking. Airbnb kept my money ($283) and the person renting the unit got her share for the 'cancelation' and rented it out to someone else (essentially double booked - don't blame her). So, buyer, beware. This isn't a hotel where they'll bother to call or email you to let you know there was an issue with your card. Airbnb will just take your money. Good luck.

Robots for profit
February 16, 2022

Had a booking that I made a mistake on. The seller told me to make a request to cancel and he'd cancel it. Once I made the request he rejected the cancellation and replied "we pay for our mistakes". Obviously I had to follow up with Airbnb about this trolling. They say he did nothing wrong and didn't violate any policies. I guess being an understanding human isn't an Airbnb policy. The agent told me that he can't help and to try my luck with a covid excuse because an honest mistake that I caught minutes after making the booking wasn't going to cut it. Unbelievable. I asked to speak to a supervisor, they told me the supervisor would have to call me in 5 minutes. It's been over an hour and 30 minutes, no call. I tried to call back and after waiting to speak to someone for 13 minutes, the call was dropped. The online messaging system isn't working either anymore as they stopped replying there too. Lol, pathetic organization, all for a $125 booking. Sad, garbage organization hungry for any coins they can lay their fingers on.

Like so many other people I had an experience with AirBnB where we booked months in advance, the site cancelled the booking a day before the reservation, and AirBnB didn't do anything for us to ensure that we could find a new place at the same cost we booked at. We had to spend much more money.

Unskilled Customer Service Not knowing what they are doing. They have "good manners", nothing else.
I have been struggling with my guest to put a reservation on my property. Every time have to explain the actions, which is a waste of time, they don't know what they are doing and the is no Supervisor to check there quality of work. They sent me to "resolution center" the person in the resolution center took a break of 48 hours.
They are telling me someone will contact you with 24 hours, which no one did.

Extremely racist company
February 12, 2022

This company denied me use because I am Asian. Then after finding out they have did this before, they conveniently made donations to Asian and anti hate crime groups. I just recently found out that they denied my friend over her religious beliefs. This is one disgusting company.

Air bnb is the worst. They wont refund. I paid for 35 days for appartement. I found out it was too far away from downtown and i have no car ( first time in city i was in mexico) i asked right away to cancelled, 1 hour after, it was days before check-in.

Host says problem is airbnb, airbnb says problem is host. Host told me to cancel so he could rent other people then refund me. I did, then i see he is renting to other people (by checking listing and dates), and never sent me money and ask me to get my money from airbnb.

It's basically a scam, they got money i got nothing. I even asked for a partial refund. Nada.

Airbnb is over for me. Way better service on expedia and booking, thats why its used by touristic industry. Airbnb are robbers. I even told them i would be still happy to have a credit to use another time!

At least get something for the money, but i got absolutely nothing. Please avoid air bnb at all cost.

Airbnb review
February 8, 2022

Be aware of bookings. Booked a stay in Lebanon Missouri for two months and had to pay in advance. We had a family emergency dealing with Covid and had to cancel. The host refused to give us a refund and airbnb was of no help. We are now out $2400 with no way to recover it. Airbnb only sides with the host and has no concern for the guest. We called costumer support and was told payment is made to the host at time of booking and it is up to the host to give refunds if they want to. The host refused our refund then rebooked a stay with another party after we had to cancel thus collecting twice for the same period of time.

I will simply never stay at an airbnb, period. I feel the place is just a scam. After they get a uploaded picture of who is staying, AND a picture of your drivers license Front and Back AND your credit card information, they insist on a web cam photo or texting something. I have an old desk top that has no web cam and I don't know how to use a smart phone to download their app and text. Really oppressive site that wants WAY more information that I have ever had to give to any other reservation site Then when you call, you are talking to the Philippines, no English. They will not work with you, all their way or no way. Well... no way it is.

Never using this trash site again
February 7, 2022

Scheduled a stay in a house but had to cancel 2 hours later after being made aware that someone 25 or older had to have been present due to a local ordinance in the area. But because of the bs cancellation fee I was only refunded half my $3700 deposit despite only holding the reservation for barely 2 hours; and I have to pay for a service fee for service I'll never receive. I explained the situation to the host and Airbnb and someone named Dan from Airbnb confirmed that the other half of my money will be returned in a number of business days. A month goes by and the other half is not returned and the host and Airbnb just ghost me until I called them about the situation again. Then it ended up being the host and Airbnb pointing fingers at eachother claiming that either one still had my deposit. Then Airbnb has the audacity to tell me a month later that the cancellation fee means that I can't be refunded. Like wtf, the concept of this platform is a good idea but it's executed poorly due to the incompetence and shady behavior of certain hosts and the support team they outsource to other countries. I travel all over the world and was hoping to use this platform for the first time but never again and I'll make sure my peers are aware of this crappy platform as well.

Words can't describe my horrible experience w/Airbnb. After having built few 5 star reviews on my Miami Beach 2 listings, one day comes this guest by name SINAN FROM TURNEY, gets insanely angry that I refused his demand to view my property in person before reserving it & said it's not available. He didn't even reserve but chose to not leave me alone, harasses me why my calendar isn't accurate & he'll report me to Airbnb so he does & Airbnb suspends my both accounts indefinitely. He's the one who violated their policy trying to directly contact owner & demanded property address, created 2nd account fake & contacted me he wouldn't leave alone… crazy guy, yet they did nothing to him but destroyed & put me out of business just like that. I tried to speak with their $#*!ed incompetent customer service & suspension dept rep Eric… and they wouldn't budge to re-activate my accounts. Suspended forever without a chance to reapply. Shockingly Cruel, unjust to owners, favor Renters only! Stay away if you're the owner. They'll charge 30% fees in Miami to so called travelers but it comes out off your price as travelers wouldn't exceed their budget & then they put you out of business by suspending your account for not accurate calendar & bogus discrimination claims. As to the guest SINAN, FROM TURKEY if you're a host BEWARE, STAY AWAY. He's a dangerous guest

They don't require hosts to review you so if you don't meet the minimum of 3 good reviews you can't book less than a week in advance. Ridiculous for someone who travels from one airbnb to a new one multiple times a week. The only message I received when trying to book places was that there was a safety concern after I went through all the trouble of filling out info multiple times. When I called support they couldn't do anything but agree. I had 2 out of the 3 reviews needed. No bad reviews. Almost 100 stays and i've only had 2 hosts review me. What is the benefit of this rule for airbnb? At this point I will be bringing my business anywhere else like vrbo which isn't so strict.

Yes the Airbnb agent told me that the host claimed i broke the dishwasher (how i do not know) The dishwasher stopped working while i was there. The Airbnb agent told me that Airbnb would pay for it, if they determined it was my fault. Then weeks later Airbnb notified me that they sided with the Host. The Host only showed the dishwasher motherboard had burned out. But never explained how they think I could possibly been the cause. I am still fighting it. I removed my form of payment from the app. After this headache and absolute lie from AIRBNB, i will use hotels or another app. I have stayed at Airbnb's across Europe and liked the option of a kitchen which I don't get with a hotel. AIRBNB will never get another penny from me.
