I would have never used this company if they broadcasted on there sight that it takes 2 days to process an order. I chose this vendor for a last minute holiday gift. Paid for express shipping so it would be here on time. And it's now expected to arrive 3 day later then needed because of their processing time. There issues aren't mine. Whether it is disconnect with their vendors or I don't know it's honestly not my problem. On top of it taking 2 days to process package wasn't even actually shipped it waiting to be shipped so technically it's 3 days to process. Really angry will never use again. I would go to a more reputable vendor if ever in this position again!
I was given to understand they are part of AMAZON?
So far my experience with them is frankly abysmal,!
They are probably best avoided unless you are fully prepared for
Underwhelming services?
I ordered a copy of a book on the website but when it arrived it turned out to be a German translation! The fact that it was a German edition was NOT REVEALED ON THE WEBSITE listing for the book. I returned the book after being assured in writing that the return postage would be refunded. They asked for, and I sent, documentation on the return postage cost twice but the company still refuses to pay as promised. IF POSSIBLE I WOULD GIVE ABE BOOKS A RATING OF ZERO STARS. The company is dishonest and incompetent. AVOID ABE BOOKS AT ALL COSTS!
This most incompetent company I've ever dealt with. I purchased a test book from a seller named Book Deals. Do not buy from this person he is a scammer. I returned the book 2 months ago still have not received a refund. Contacted Abe books keep getting the run around. Find someone else to buy a book from. Horrible customer service no way to contact by phone only emails. Every time u have to explain the citation over again because they never go back and look at the prior emails to know hats going on.
I checked reviews after purchasing a book on here from Pro Quo Books, and although their name as a reseller didn't appear, the many terrible reviews made me write my purchase off, never expecting to receive it.
However, lo and behold, my book arrived today! Complete surprise, and the quality is basically as new, and hardback, which I didn't expect.
For Pro Quo Books reseller under Abebooks, at least, you can completely trust them. It took forever to ship but that's coronavirus for you.
Very happy as this book's not in my library nor easy to get elsewhere.
A company called Glass Frog advertised the Baltimore Catechism #2 on Abebooks. The copyright date they gave was from the 1960s which was what I wanted as a Traditional Catholic, but when I got it it was 2012 with revisions making the book useless for my purposes.
They refused to refund and let me return the book.
I returned a book that I didn't need anymore and had the worst experience. First I was told my package hadn't been received and could not be located. I sent the tracking number with the attachment that it had been received. It wasn't until then that acknowledged they received it, then they processed my refund for $4.33 although I purchased the book for $69.13. My return was well within the 30 day period and met all requirements for a full refund.
AbeBooks uses OSM worldwide as their shipping partner.
My item sat in an OSM Worldwide facility in NJ for a full week before it was transferred to the USPS
AbeBooks customer service said this was acceptable!
Unbelievable
I bought a book over the summer time that never arrived, ABE books provide tracking but not outside of the US? Anyway, it never left the warehouse from what I could tell from the first order. I did however get a refund.
I then re ordered from a different seller, and received an email to say that even though I paid priority shipping ($15 USD), that it still may not arrive on time. Since I needed it for a birthday, I emailed to that having constant delayed shipments is not acceptable when paying for priority shipping and if they could provide proper tracking this time. Instead, they cancelled the order without confirming with me, so I had to place the order again, and now it definitely will be late! Still waiting on an apology. The customer service rep is called Megan, very rude.
Ordered a travel book on 19th September. Still not arrived 2nd October. The seller has made sympathetic noises, but the quoted delivery times are a disgrace (by 22nd October, more than a month after placing the order - from Reading not from Polynesia).
Do not use Abe Books; however attractive the asking price may be, the book is worthless to the customer (and therefore very expensive) if it never arrives.
They let sellers keep your money for weeks without shipment. Then, the seller who really never had the book will cancel, enjoying the free use of your money.
I was getting some good books for a while but i ended up seeing a double charge on my card and tried to contact them only to get nothing.
Abebooks does not have a friendly refund policy. They are saying that: "All return and refund requests, including reports of items that didn't arrive, must be received by AbeBooks within 30 days of the order's maximum estimated delivery date". The worse is they never remind you the deadline. If you forget the deadline, then you should forget your refund!
Horrible experience from Irish Booksellers and Abe Books over an order that was placed almost a month ago. The seller operates a scam operation and Abe Books makes it terribly difficult to resolve. They have not held the seller to the policies set forth by their company. We have made attempts since the first of September to resolve a matter with this seller. Before ordering anything from Irish Booksellers read reviews and also those related to Abe Books and the handling of this seller.
Purchased two textbooks on 8/27 from AbeBooks. Paid for expedited shipping to get books ASAP. One book shipped after a few days and I received a shipping confirmation and tracking info and it arrived in 4 business days.
The second book purchase was confirmed but they never sent a shipping confirmation. I contacted the seller and they indeed confirmed the book was shipped and that I should be getting the shipping email shortly. After two weeks I tried to call - tried a dozen times and it just goes to a Google number that says nobody is available. Now after about three weeks I just keep calling and emailing and they finally respond saying that it was lodt in transit and they can refund my money. Of course, they don; t care that I spent $1800 for the class and now will fail without a book. At this point, all resellers are either out of the book or they tell me it will be mid-October before it will be shipped. Yeah... that won't help. I al thoroughly convinced that they knew the book was sold out and just took my money hoping they may get another one in. How can you send the shipping confirmation and tracking on one and not the other. And... why did it take me constantly calling and emailing? If this was truly a mistake, I would have been ok with a call or email saying the book was out of stock so I could look elsewhere. Now it's too late for me to do anything...
I ordered Redstone Diary desk calendar for close to full price. They sent me the one for 2020.
Abe.com, I believe, is owned by Amazon. I ordered through Amazon, paid with an Amazon credit car, and received shipment from Amazon. But Amazon does not include it among my purchases, and there is nobody to contact to complain. I guess they own the world. They are not to be trusted.
I ordered a book for my daughter's school. After a month, I received a hard stock envelope, which was odd for a book since it was flat. When I opened it, there was only a label saying "thank you for your order". Order number and order date, order detail, price and total. It also said: "please note that if there are any books from your order that are not in this parcel. They will be delivered in a separate parcel". So we waited, and waited and nothing arrived. We called them but it says that they can't take calls. So we emailed them and they said it was delivered (on the same date we got the empty envelope). We've been emailing them every day and they keep making up excuses. Obviously they are a scam. I've read other reviews with my same problem. They take your money and they don't send the book. I should have read the reviews before I placed the order.
I actually had a pretty good experience with Abebooks. When I contacted them they responded and my order came just fine.
I've been dealing with abe.com for a number of years and it has been a good source for out-of-print books. I recently purchased a book as a gift for a friend from BOOK DEALS. The book turned out to be a smaller format book than I thought I had ordered (no dimensions were given in the listing) and I returned it for a refund. BOOK DEALS has been stonewalling me on the refund, so I stopped payment through my bank. This should not have been necessary, but BOOK DEALS is run by a crook. DO NOT BELIEVE THE FIVE-STAR RATING GIVEN THIS BOOKSELLER! ABE.COM REVIEWS AREN'T BASED ON BUYER FEEDBACK!
They charge you immediately when you place an order, and then after 3 days, they email you that your order was canceled, but nowhere to find information about the refund for your purchase.
Clearly then have problems managing their store. Don't waste time shopping with them. There are many other bookseller who doesn't trick you.
Answer: I've not had the bad experiences of the previous reviewers. That said, choose your sellers carefully. Just as on ebay, etc., check the reviews of the seller. One of the sellers I use often on Abe is Hippo Books. They sent me an email recently that the book I ordered from them was not the advertised quality and that their packers caught the mistake. The book was not salvagable and was regrettably destroyed. They checked their stock and did not have another copy at all. They promptly refunded my money without me having to ask. They were apologetic and I have since then purchased other books from them with dependable and accurate results. Another seller I use is Owls Books. They refunded my money after one email to them when I complained that the condition of the book I received did not match the advertisement. Again, absolutely no hassle and good results since then. I like to use sellers in close proximity to my residence or at least in the same state. Your experience will, as always, will depend on your due diligence as a buyer.
Answer: Avoid this business if you can. I had been told by a Professor that they were a good site to purchase from - NOT! The "Bookseller" keeps changing the shipping date after first denying they even had an order for me from Abe's. Not worth the couple of dollars you MIGHT save.
