There is a 18h century Liverpool American ship creamer on 1st dibs for $7000. The exact pitcher right down to the #15 tag on the bottom is on the New Hampshire live auctioneers for auction or buy for $3000. Look it up! Something doesn't smell right.
I wanted a diamond ring for March. Ordered it in Jan 2021. It is June 2021 and neither do I have the ring, and nor is anyone following up. I have sent more messages than I can count, and on multiple platforms. Luxury marketplace? Amazon is better than these guys. They had the nerves to even tell me I can not cancel the order, when I got fed up! Neither will I ever purchase from 1st dibs, nor will I let anyone in my circle do that ever either. Not only have I lost the chance to have the ring on time, but the 1 month I wasted on getting the custom ring made. Now in 2035 probably when this is resolved, then I have to start over and get a new ring custom-made. But it will be from a better platform, of course!
1stDibs undoubtedly sells quality products. My concern/complaint if you like is not about the aesthetics of their products. Just be mindful that by going direct to the actual manufacturer rather than 1stDibs you can save considerably monetarily, and get clearers insight and information about the item you wish to purchase. When it comes to purchasing lighting for export from the USA to another country be absolutely sure of your local wiring standards and that the manufacturer/1stDibs can warrant what they send you- will to comply with local standards. Despite assurances from both we were supplied with lamps that were not to wired to standards for the country we live in. We had no recourse. We had to have the lights modified (low voltage transformers incorporated). Check all fine print as deep in the T&C's are conditions that should be more evident. Secondly be aware of the duties and taxes for importing to your country- as they are not openly evident as you go thru the online purchasing process and can add literally $100s to your purchase price. In our case almost $400... on top of a $2000+ purchase. Our first experience with 1stDibs and a very expensive and disappointing one.
I sent for a ring from u. K. they sent it to America by mistake I have been sent a bill for customs that has nothing to do with me as I did not send it to AMERICA they did I have tried since January to get them to pay but just get put off I now have had to pay this bill they are cheats.
The WORST customer service I have ever experienced... EVER! They are a joke. I spent over two weeks calling and following up multiple times just to try and get a return label sent to me, often times speaking with the same service agent that lied multiple times about sending it then and there. And on top of it, this return was for a fraudulent item I purchased from 1st Dibs. Needless to say I will never be a customer of 1st Dibs again. I don't understand how they are still in business considering the service I received.
I have 2 had experiences with 1st dibs, the 2nd was a nightmare. I bought a $3000 copy of a Picasso ink print after speaking with the gallery help 2x, once specifically about the condition of the paper. Although they said No Return, I was confident that if it were what as1st dibs online description said and what the gallery's help said, it would be good. The 9x12 print arrived and the paper was completely frayed and irregular on the whole left side of the paper and the "OFF WHITE" paper was actually ORANGE! Came to find out it was a page torn out of a book which was NEVER described online or in telephone calls. I had been searching for Wall Art, nothing like this ever occurred to me as a possible product. After 3 communications with 1st Dibs, their response was 'a bad experience like this through them was RARE AND THEY WERE SORRY'. No Certificate of Authentication, as promised by both dealer and 1st dibs follow up, was ever sent. JOHN SZOKE GALLERY
Truly an atrocious company. STAY AWAY!
Their lack of customer service is beyond. I would much rather deal with the seller directly on a platform like InCollect.
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS RETAILER.
The watch arrived with no issues. However, the watch was too small for my wife.
I contacted the company within the 3 days and was issued an accepted refund.
However they would not and still wont provide a return address for the watch and now say I am out of my return time and cannot get a refund.|
This is theft. I will be reclaiming my money back through my bank on the grounds of fraud.
It is disgusting that this company is attempting this.

Buyer beware - the so-called buyer protection didn't protect us. I bought a custom-made dining table, described as ebony walnut. They offered me the choice of "oak", which I selected. All materials on their website described the table choices as being made of "oak", "walnut" or other types of wood, and under "materials and techniques" the only item offered was "walnut." In discussions with the manufacturer the table surface was described as a choice of "rift oak" or "plain sliced oak". The table I was delivered was made of veneer over MDF, and simply glued together; the quality of the table was poor, and it was delivered in the wrong color. At no time was the table described as being made of veneer or MDF, as is customary to disclose about the construction of wood furniture. I've attempted to resolve this matter through 1st Dibs customer service and they offered a partial refund - the customer service agent originally wrote that they intended to provide a refund of $6,000 on a table of $14,000 -- hardly satisfactory vs. the request to simply return the table for a full refund. However, the agent then came back again to say that the offer of this refund itself was even in error, and that the most that 1st Dibs would provide was a refund of approximately $4,000 and that was their final resolution. 1st Dibs took the position that because the table was not described specifically as "solid oak" (only as "oak") that it was not misrepresented. Buyer beware -- it's extraordinary to me that a marketplace that relies on trust would allow this lack of disclosure and then claim that the information was not misleading.
Do not use this website. They are complete scammers! I bid for a pair of earrings and won the bid (paying through my paypal verified account). They proceeded to request all sorts of personal documentation and information (which given the fact that I was paying through my paypal verified account) there was absolutely no need for further information. Extremely dangerous and unsafe practices for buyers. DO NOT TRUST. I of course refused to provide any unnecessary 'extra' documentation. BUYERS BEWARE. UNSAFE AND UNTRUSTWORTHY website. Don't bother with 1stdibs!
I purchased two bracelets from website. I decided immediately to return them. Its a week later and I still cannot
Get a label to send jewelry back. Seller was this jewelry but 1st dibs requires you go though them
They are quick to sell you stuff but not so good taking it back. BEWARE!
Gonna give it a few more days and then going to involve my credit card company
Purchased an item and color was not as shown. Agreed to refund, however, I requested refund by check or ask for refund to be sent to a different account due to fraudulent activity on account of payment. After ordering from them, had 3 money transfers withdrawn from my account. Account was frozen by bank until it was investigated by bank. I ask for a refund in form of a check or to another account. Would NOT agree to that, so stuck with an item I will never use or wear. Will never order from this company again.
Terrible experience with London Dealer Rhodes Fine Arts. Very disappointed in 1stDibs customer service regarding this. Be aware, IstDibs offers a lot of promises regarding purchase protection, but just try to get ahold of them. Good luck. With that... We expected a vetted / honest Dealer (yeah, we know), and an avenue thru 1stDibs to resolve any purchase issues. Didn't happen - Our design team has learned a lot thru this
Working with our design team, we purchased a table that was delivered in March. Upon immediate inspection, the table had severe quality issues that were not highlighted In any photos or correspondence sent by the seller or on the website. This table was not in "good" condition it was in terrible condition Our design team Called immediately within immediately within your time guidelines to return it. We we told by the rep, of course, and the process would be started to do so. Then Covid hit. When 1st dibs reopened, we pursued the return again. We were told the person who assured us a returned was no longer there. We we also told we did not report a return within the proper timeframe. We were also told the table met the criteria for the condition described. All a blatant manipulation of the facts to suit the needs of 1st Dibs not the client.
We are sympathetic to the challenges businesses face in these Covid times. We offered a trade or exchange for something else on their site. All conversation was met with deaf ears with a simple $359.20 refund to make us go away. One would come to expect, especially with an online business that prides itself on being the best, to have a legitimate claim not to be dismissed in such an lowbrow manner. High end consignment shops in NYC won't even take this table because of the condition. We aren't the only set of eyes looking at it.
Profoundly disappointed..
I bought a wallet from Lampoo a dealer for 1st dibs and they are trying to keep my money after saying they would refund my money. Now I'm fighting to get my money back. Not a 5 star company. Better off buying somewhere else online. These people are horrible. Customer service is terrible and non caring and don't expect to get a refund. It's a trap. Update... I did get a refund but I had to put up a fight...
Purchased something, arrived broken, mover asked if it came from a barn, customer service NEVER responded, seller said they would fix the problem and never responded, 1st dibs told the seller to let them handle it. Absolutely zero customer service and fraudulent business practices. Buyer beware.
I purchased a purse for $1000. Needless to say it came looking like a $35 goodwill purchase. It smelled like cigarettes, had tears and stains beyond repair. I provided full photos and description the same day for refund. I was given a run around for 3 weeks. Now no refund, and I'm stuck with junk. I am so disappointed in this company. In america we expect quality and customer service, both of which they do not have. I will never recommend them to anyone.
I bought a very expensive Faberge egg. I returned the egg to the seller because it was really tiny. After 2 weeks, 4 emails and 2 phone calls no refund. The egg cost $16,000. Nothing. Just excuses. I am not sure how anyone writes a good review of this company. Try to return something and see what happens. They are quick to take money but really slow to refund it. RUN don't walk away from this joke of a company.
1stdibs is a standout, as an e-commerce site, for offering some of, it not, the BEST high-quality, antique and luxury items.
The website is a great e-commerce platform: first, it's design is visually a standout; how it presents items, ability to communicate with a Seller, and, the process to complete a purchase.
No adverse experiences, whether an inquiry to a Seller or a completed purchase, has, yet, to be encountered.
Prices are in-line with the quality of items offered, but, with many Sellers allowing for Offers to be placed, it is a highly, recommended venue to check-out - when seeking that unique, one-of-a kind item.
I have purchased several items on 1st Dibs textiles, framed art, and decor. I have bought items sourced both from the US and internationally. I have had mixed experiences. It is important to check of the individual seller before making an offer. Look at all of their listed items, assessing them for consistency and quality. See whether they also have a bricks and mortar shop or gallery (that is a positive sign). I made the mistake of buying an item in haste from a seller that I later learned was also selling many ridiculously priced garage-sale junk pieces (calling this junk "vintage collector's items" or something similar). I had not taken the time to look though his full listings because I was in a hurry. That kind of flea market stock list is a huge red flag. Avoid those shops.
The bid process is pretty good on the site, although I once had a seller try to deny that he had accepted my lower bid when I who had not seen his acceptance mistakenly accepted his higher counter offer. Not sure how that happened, but I won that argument. If you tag an item as a favorite and wait, the seller may send you a discount offer after a time. The website also holds sales featuring several shops at a time, and will notify you if a shop you liked is included. Be aware that some 1st Dibs shops post prices that are hugely inflated, expecting the price to be bid down. If you do your research and you know the going price of what you are buying, this is a safe place to shop.

Answer: It's a real company. But as I have learned by experience their policies and buyer protection are a scam. They mark up prices and sell high. You over spend and no way to get a refund. I'm highly disappointed in their ethics. Don't buy, look elsewhere.
Answer: None all experience has been negative, it seems to be full of fraudulent activity
