We were going to be out of town at the time a large, expensive painting was to be delivered. We communicated directly with the mover 1st Dibs assigned. We simply asked they call us with an hour's advance notice so we could have someone meet them at our building in New York City. They agreed. Instead, the mover dropped the painting off on the sidewalk outside our building, drove away, and never called. We asked for a refund on moving costs from 1st Dibs (the very least they could do) and they never bothered to respond. We will *NEVER* order anything from a 1st Dibs vendor again.
I ordered a midcentury modern piece of furniture. It was reported to be "in perfect condition". When it Arrived, not only did it have several impact damages (perhaps from shipping?) but it also clearly had a fake "xerox" copy picture in one of the panels that should have been covered by glass and was not. Clearly not the quality touted. I have communicated with 1st dibs many times with no resolution. I warn Folks to stay away from this site as You can't tell the good front he bad sellers and 1st Dibs isn't working to drive out the bad ones.
I bought what I thought was a complete fireplace for $2000. I only received the outer surround. Ok, my mistake, but the top of the mantle was completely broken off. Not my mistake. I wanted to return this and get a refund but their customer service is non-existent. They write very caring, sympathetic emails about how they are going to resolve this matter but that's all they do until they ghost you entirely. I lodged a complaint with the BBB. Buyers, be very aware that should something you buy arrive damaged, you are on your own. There is no help from the person you buy from or 1sdibs. Truly a shady business.
Worst buying experience of my life. I would have lost over USD $4000 if it had not been for my bank processing a chargeback. The seller stopped responding when I flagged that the item was not as described, then 1stDibs ignored me for weeks until they realised I'd got my money back. Then they hassled me non-stop to send the item back, which I did, but I kind of wish I'd kept it because they're so so terrible.
DO NOT BUY FROM 1STDIBS!
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY- I ordered a ring that I specifically asked to be delivered before I was leaving for out of town in a week and was promised this would be the case. The ring was NOT delivered by the date promised and was NOT delivered to our home late or ever as we have RING DOORBELL footage that shows USPS arriving and delivering a package that day, but never FEDEX even though FEDEX claimed I signed for the delivery (again I was OUT OF TOWN, so not possible). I supplied 1st Dibbs the RING DOORBELL footage, my plane and hotel itineraries as proof and informed them I requested delivery by a specific date and they told me FEDEX denied the claim, as it was signed for (a straight line) and delivered (lie) and the only thing I could do is to file a police report for theft. How can I claim something was stolen if it was never received? How can this be on me when the contract was between 1st Dibbs and FEDEX to have me sign for the delivery and that never took take place? How can a company not care that you paid them with nothing in return and will not dispute FEDEX over their customers claims and proof? DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING from these people. THEY DO NOT CARE IF YOU GET YOUR GOODS OR NOT- DISGUSTING PRACTICES.
I have been a customer for over 3 years, have made 21 purchases totaling slightly over $160,000.00…probably considered a good customer. But, I have had a terrible experience with a seller over freight charges. He (Florin Antiques, Madrid) shipped my purchase via sea shipping, and quoted the charge as "in-home delivery". In actuality the service he arranged only shipped the item to the U.S. port of entry for the amount that he quoted, and which I prepaid. The freight charges to get the piece actually delivered to my home were almost twice as much more than what he quoted. I suspect he misunderstood due to not being particularly fluent in English. But, 1stDibs customer service was basically nonexistent. They simply wouldn't do anything to mitigate the situation, and even pulled down my review of the seller. Their promises, assurances, declarations, and guarantees regarding the support they will provide are useless. I hate that one bad experience out of 21 has made me realize that if there is a problem you are probably on your own. At the very least I would recommend that you not let any foreign seller use any freight company other than DHL.

I directed this feedback here because 1st Dibs is enormously hard to get in touch with. As one example, I was unable to find an e-mail address for their magazine.
Their items are truly exquisite; however, my complaint is about a recent article on a Japanese designer:. Mira Nakashima Reminisces about Her Father's Career and Her Famous Namesake Chair
How unfortunate that this article inserted a pointed reference to the Japanese internment camps in a discussion of art. Will the Liberal Left ever depart from its ongoing vilification of the United States?
Please keep politics out of art journalism? How disappointing that radicals comprise a good chunk of the fashion and art sectors in this country.

After looking at numerous Diamond Rings on the website for an anniversary present for my wife, we placed an offer. The offer include normal data such as name address credit card number etc. We placed the offer and were told we needed to provide a copy of a government ID to continue the transaction. I enquired through email as to why. No answer for 3 days, there is no telephone number I can find to call and speak with someone, Finally I found a option to chat with someone who told me my transaction had been flagged I asked why, he did not know but they had to have my ID. I said why you have a valid card and I know this as you have a pending charge against it. Still needed my ID, what do you do with it I asked, we delete it, how do I know, trust us I was told. Never tried so hard to buy a ring in my life. Not giving and ID to a company I should "trust" who already has funds in hand. No reason for this I can think of and I do a lot of transactions. I would avoid this site and doing business with them as I find there practices questionable.
Accounts payable ignore requests for payment eventually sending anonymous e-mail informing your payment is being processed.
Tried to buy an Eames chair for 11k. Seller gave a shipping time and quote before I purchased. As the expected delivery date was nearing all of a sudden the "drivers van" broke down with a "broken axle". Said he was in Chicago. Made me wait another 2 weeks and when second delivery date neared the "truck broke down again in Colorado". Upon contacting the seller, the seller claimed the truck just had left LA. I called out the lie and contacted 1st dibs support. Upon which they engaged a "new driver" and all of a sudden they handed over the item in Portland to their driver. Upon pressing them for a date and time of delivery the "driver" called and said it would arrive in the evening. 1h later he called and claimed that he could only arrive at midnight due to road closures along the way! At this point I had severe doubts of the legitimacy of 1st dibs and their sellers. I called them out in the chat for their lies and they bascially admitted that they lied to me from the get go about the shipment. Very sketchy and I assume they never had the item in possession or they are dealing with contraband and forgeries of high value items. I asked for an immediate refund and put a fraud claim in with my bank. I think this is a scam place and unfortunately I did not check here earlier. Certainly nothing to ever recommend or repeat.
Placed an order which was confirmed with order number. When it never arrived, I reached out and was then told the offer had expired. If you like being lied to and wasting your time then 1stDibs is the place for you!
Hi
John I'm sorry I'm writing to you so late. I know I was saying you wrapped so gorgeously
Thank you
Bought an item claiming to have free shipping and paid in full. - Confirmation email states this. Package doesn't arrive and I find out it is being held for owed duties. No one warned me of this significant added cost. Have sent 1stdbs several emails that have gone unanswered. A "James" has called and simply states pay the duties or pay to return the package. I'm stuck.
They are not a marketplace. They just take their commissions and leave the customer without any assistance. They should not have foreign sellers on this site if they are not going to also identify duties that will be assessed.
Misrepresentation of items by vendors. Beware! You get stuck with restocking fees and return shipping fees that are large. I would never ever purchase from this company again. The items are very expensive for what they are as well. You are much better served to see items in person and purchase locally! What you see is not what you get on this site. These are serious investments and there's no back up support when you get taken. Seriously considered the risks!
Buyer Beware! I wish I would have come here to see the reviews before my wife bought a $10,000 bed through them. It was to be made in 12 weeks and it has been 9 Months. The worst part is the dishonesty, month after month of "oh yes, its's getting picked up this week" etc etc month after month. We can't get a refund go our $10,000. They say, "The merchant doesn't allow cancelations" Really? So it's okay for the dealer to take 5 years? What is the actual reasonable time limit? We were quite generous and gave them ample time to resolve the issue, but lie after lie, we are done! Tara Shaw is the crooked dealer in New Orleans. These two companies are thick as thieves!
Bought a coffee table that turned out was badly stained. The photos were high misleading. The service people were totally unhelpful. Would not let me talk to a supervisor. With shipping the table cost me $2200. The refund was a little more than $409.
Don't buy from tm1stdibs. I was a customer who bought thousands of dollars of items. They treated me like dirt.
I ordered very expensive earrings - what a fool I was not to look at reviews first. They promised they would be here within a week because I was traveling. Needless to say, they lied.
When I complained I got a response back that was threatening, insulting, barely literate, no punctuation - when they had lied. It's fairly shocking I wish I could post the screen shot here.
Now nervous about whether this will be the real item or a cheap fake after reading the reviews below.
BUYER BEWARE!
I purchased a table from a vendor on 1st dibs. I sent a wire transfer of 4100 dollars. I never received the goods. Found out the company is a fraudulent company that scams people and never sends the goods. 1st Dibs would not help me at all. I was scammed out of 4100 dollars and 1st Dibs refused to help. They are not a reputable platform. Do not buy through them!
They will steal $1582 from you. Beware! I made a purchase for a ring for $1582. They cancelled the order then said that I never made the order and to try again. They already took out the money! Beware!

Answer: It's a real company. But as I have learned by experience their policies and buyer protection are a scam. They mark up prices and sell high. You over spend and no way to get a refund. I'm highly disappointed in their ethics. Don't buy, look elsewhere.
Answer: None all experience has been negative, it seems to be full of fraudulent activity
