AI scams on Reddit and Facebook
On SmartCustomer, businesses may not offer incentives or pay to remove reviews. Learn more about our Review Guidelines.
The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

This company will do anything to get your money, but nothing to support your business. Never picks up when you call, never responds to emails. Rejects reviews that are genuinely valid, but then only posts the negative ones. When asked why they only accept negative reviews and reject most of the positive ones they say 'its the algorithm' and they can't do anything about it. I guess they're outside their own system and have a yelp page or I'd leave them a 1-star rating.
I was solicited by a yelp representative to try their B2B marketing tools with pay for click ads. I was skeptical that any qualified leads would come through yelp as I am not a retail business. I wes told I could try at no cost, monitor my spending, and cancel at anytime. After about 2 weeks I had accrued $28 dollars in click charges with not a single email or phone inquiry so I cancelled. My bill came in at $62 with all kinds of hidden fees charged.
We have a number of reviews over the years posted on Yelp that are positive, but Yelp only post one negative review from someone who never purchased our product. We believe they are a scammer since they spend so much time attacking us for no reason. But Yelp only post that review. We contacted Yelp and said the review meets their standards.
The other positive reviews are under "that are not currently recommended' section on Yelp that is hidden. When asked Yelp why they haven't posted the positive reviews. They informed us that the individuals who have left reviews don't have enough posted reviews on Yelp. Even though some have posted 3 or 2 other reviews on Yelp. I explained that their system is not accurate or fair since a lot of our clients are older and not tech savy so they don't post a lot.
Bottom line Yelp doesn't care. Don't register you business with them.
Purchased a Stihl chainsaw in December 2022. Used it for the first time in January 2023. Had difficulty starting it. Used it for 45 minutes and it shut off. Could not get it started back. Brought it to the approved distributor where I purchased the chain saw and they were able to start it and said there was nothing wrong with it. Several weeks later, went to use the Stihl chainsaw and it would not start. Finally got it started and used it for about 30 minutes. While letting the chain saw idle for several minutes to pull down some tree branches(did not want to cut off chain saw as it was too hard to start) the chain saw started smoking. I could not get it started back. Brought the chain saw back to the distributor and they said there was a burnt clutch and plastic housing. I was informed by Stihl that this repair is not covered under their warranty because the chainsaw was left idling for several minutes. It is very unfortunate I am +$400.00 out of pocket with no chain saw. I have owned and operated chainsaws for the last 30 years and have run and operated a chainsaw the same way and never had this problem. The problem is a defective a Stihl chain saw. Stihl will not replace my chain saw. Very poor rating for this company. Similar complaints as mine have been made from other customers and can be found on line.
I was contacted after partially setting up my account and was offered $900 in free advertising if I completed my sign up process. I was also told by their agent that they would personally write me an ad and send it to me for confirmation before releasing it. Not only did they not contact me at all after the call, but they specifically mentioned that there would be no cost on my end and that if the free advertising was successful then I would have to continue paying for the service. Thankfully I had been suspicious and looked into it a bit further and it turns out that the $900 credit was conditional that I payed for $450 worth of ads first. I immediately made a request to close my account and thankfully my bank locked my card after asking if I had meant to make a purchase with them. They have now emailed me 4 times telling me that I owe them money. It's only about $7 but I don't know what the charge was for and I have no intention of paying for it. They haven't responded to my request to close my account permanently. What a disgraceful company. I will not use their services under any circumstances and would not recommend them to anyone. These types of business practices border on predatory. If I hadn't paid attention I could have been on the hook for hundreds of dollars and I imagine they have successfully defrauded many small businesses out of valuable capital. If I could give them 0/5 stars I would. I am disgusted.
The food sucked, I gave them a one star. They deleted my post, I've sent multiple emails to customer service for an explanation. They have not responded at all and it's been nearly a month.
Horribly inaccessible and unprofessional for a company that is intended to improve one's business. Every representative has different information and truly is not about helping the customer. I have never experienced such poor service, but they are in the business of business I suppose.
The associate of yelp lied saying to sign up they would hold my card but no charges would be made but my card was charged over $80. Their customer service is a joke, very unhelpful. I'll never use their service for my business
Trying to simply search for businesses or use links within the Yelp website on a computer is pointless and a waste of time. Why? Because when you're searching for a furniture store (for example), and you scroll down and see other "similar business listings" with links to their page, none of them work. Clicking on any business (which DOES have an active yelp page) seems to for whatever reason bring up a page that states in big letters "We're sorry. We can't find the page you're looking for."
So something is screwed up with their servers or backend, coding, all of the above, etc. Searching for the particular business by name will yield results usually. But that defeats the purpose of browsing for different stores on yelp, and finding similar ones listed to compare and being unable to tap the link to their yelp page. Nope gotta back all the way out and search for each one individually instead.
I am a consumer, not a business owner. So I am not upset that Yelp has manipulated my business reviews or recommendations. This is a true account of a true experience I had with this company.
My son was in a childcare facility that allowed him to escape the facility. He was found in the parking lot. When I wrote a review of this facility on yelp, the review never was posted. I could not see it. When I dug into where the review was located, I found that YELP had hidden it in a location very hard to access by the consumer.
Upon further investigation, I found out that Yelp did this practice for any company that paid for its advertising. If the company paid for Yelp advertising, they would hide all the negative reviews and negative recommendations. They would float only the positive ones to the surface.
This is a DEPLORABLE business act and should be illegal. YELP is deceptive. YELP is no longer relevant. Do not use YELP- PERIOD!
Wrote and submitted a review of the Beverage Mart in Acworth, Georgia because of being verbally assaulted by an employee over a question. I merely asked where his owner was, and he launched into this racially charged commentary that "he didn't have an owner". For Yelp to remove this review solidifies my beliefs that social media needs additional oversight. Don't provide a platform that won't report the truth. This is very disappointing. People should know who they are spending their money with, and it should not be reviewed and filtered. I named no one, reported the facts, but I guess it flies in the face of social media culture. Shame on you Yelp! I will never consult, nor write any further reviews on this platform. This is an all time low for our country, and I'm going to at least write my congressional leadership to urge greater oversight and control of the social media applications.
I responded to a salesperson late last year and completed my profile, paid $600 and really didn't get much for it. So I removed my paid products and now I'm being charged $17/month for nothing. I can't reach customer service after hours on hold and my salesperson won't answer back either. And you can't review Yelp on Yelp or Google. Hmmmmmm wonder why.
Cant stand them deleting my own customers reviews from my page for my company because they THINK its fake
Yelp is awful. They make no effort to validate the legitimacy of negative reviews and filter away 90% of the positive reviews. They will hound you to advertise and when you don't they will make sure the negative reviews show first on your account. This is extortion. They allow clients to rant when you don't give them a freebee when you have done nothing wrong. They should be held accountable for the damage that they do to the reputation of small businesses.
Their entire system needs to be re-organized so all consumers can have a voice and not just the ones they hand pick. The business should have a right to reply and if there is a reason for the review to be removed then it should be considered. Please have your board look at how you are doing things. Over one thousand bad reviews from businesses should tell you something. We are 4.5 to 5.0 with 8 other sources so it is time to take a long look in the mirror. Don't take this as a negative because I have done you a favor if you wake up.
I have had bad experiences with Yelp as a small business owner. They will not take down reviews even if you can show that they are fake or contain provably false information. Also, on another note, I paid thousands of dollars to Yelp over the years and got very little in return. There are many far better advertising platforms.
A few weeks later I noticed some extra Yelp charges on my debit card. $180 this month, same the month before and some other extra other charges. I called them and they said the only way to solve the problem was through email. So I sent them the email explaining everything and it's has been 2 weeks already rand they never replied. The biggest problem was I don't even have a real business yet. I was doing a trial and right after I made my account I removed every paid service. On top of that I haven't received any emails, calls, instagram followers… NOTHING. They also don't send you a receipt or email notification about the charges. I'm completely upset and disappointed.
I was looking for a auto repair shop and sadly the website has become useless.
You have to scroll a lot just to get past the sponsored ads who nobody wants to see.
My biggest issue are the useless filters. Why show absurd stuff like "Gender-neutral restrooms"? Who cares? I want to get my car fixed and not take a dump.
Once every 2-3 months we get an email wanting to speak to us about our listing. When I respond that I am not interested, they call our office... repeatedly. I have a degree in marketing analytics and advertising, so I know what works and what doesn't work for our company. Yelp does not work for us. We maintain a free listing now and that is it. I spend half the call educating these "account executives" who are trying to sell junk services to me about our market and exactly why we won't ever be doing any advertising through yelp. I have the numbers to back me up. After a few times I now just tell them no I won't be calling them back and ask them to not waste either of our time. I have unsubscribed and I am supposedly on their "do not call or email" list... but that doesn't seem to stop these money hungry vultures. I have noticed that our free yelp listing gets less traction after each of my encounters with their "account executives". This company doesn't seem to understand that their business practices are bordering unethical and their prices are outrageous!
I have seen how Yelp Used my organic leads and customers that found me through other publications to send their information to my competition listed on they Yelp site that's paying them.
I got 5 - (5) star reviews and the ppl were all Registered Yelp users however since I was not paying them they removed them with they old Unrecommeed review video Set up... straight liers... rip offs!
Then they allow none Registered any body post negative reviews on you then blow up your phone charging you to remove they by paying air time to over flow those negative review. And yes they do alter and remove ads. Seen it with 1 phone call and I screen shot it and they still lied. If you want to ruin your business use Yelp they pros at it.
Answer: Yes, it's true or they go to "not recommended"
Answer: Yelp are crooks, find some where else
Answer: For one of my business they made me pay for their monthly service which I never did, so my positive review was hidden.
Answer: Look somewhere else. As the reviews here show Yelp is notoriously unreliable.
Answer: Yes they erase all reviews they darn well wish to delete. CROOKED YELP!
