Yelp Reviews Summary

The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

People should be confirmed that they actually have done business with receipts prior to being able to write a review on a commercial website about a specific business such as a hotel or any business that sells things.

Yelp is a scam
October 20, 2015

Yelp is such a waste of time. Its more of a marketing service that requires you to spend money rather than real reviews that you can depend. Most reviews are fake and the better rated restaurants usually have a lot of people writing reviews as if an average consumer has that kind of time. Most happy customers don't bother to write reviews, its mostly friends of the restaurant that are promoting rather than real customers. Don't fall for that crap. There are much better and reliable sources for user reviews than yelp. Word of mouth is still the best advertising and Google places is not bad either..

Agenda
October 4, 2015

Yelp's agenda is to increase site traffic. Not a problem, just good business. The attempt to coerce traffic by hiding/filtering reviews of people who don't have a high enough ranking on Yelp IS a problem.

Essentially, they want to be more like Facebook and keep people on the site socially. Users are encouraged to "friend" other users, invite new users, and write lots of reviews. Those who do enough of this find that suddenly their opinions are worth more than those who don't, and those who don't discover that their reviews get banished and are not counted in the overall rating of the business they reviewed.

I have seen businesses whose rating was based on less than 5% of the total number of reviews they actually got, which could throw their actual rating off significantly. Businesses who pay membership fees get low reviews upgraded for them through Yelps process that mandates a higher rating from users after any arbitration, while non-member business might find the bulk of their 5 star ratings magically disappearing into Yelp's "These Reviews Aren't Important To You, Right?" filter.

Yelp's rational for this is that they want to show only those reviews that will matter most to you, but the only criteria they use is how busy any random reviewer has been on Yelp. If it seems that that has literally nothing to do with what reviews might interest you, you are correct. It's just a mechanism to encourage users to waste more time on Yelp to keep their reviews alive, and more than a bit insulting that Yelp thinks anyone can't see that.

Yelp is good for restaurants, but I think a lot of the reviews are paid ones.

Yelp seems to be a lot of bloggers just tearing small businesses apart. In this new world of saying negative things online and hurting a small business instead of saying something to an employee or manager. In less you are a regular Yelper, they may not let your opinion be published. If you have a problem with a business, have the guts to say something when you are there. And certainly remember... this is ONE persons opinion, nothing more.

If you are into restaurants than Yelp is a great resource. Yes Yelp does have some shady business practices, yet they still provide a lot of value to consumers.

I have been a Yelper for at least five years now and I have nothing but praise for the site. I use the site daily to check in and write reviews about any and all types of businesses across the globe. The rating system which is very similar to SiteJabber.com is based on the 1-5 star rating system. One star being lousy while a five star review is the best thing ever. As with all review sites you do have to deal with garbage reviews or reviews that seem fake. Yelp has attempted to deal with this by only showing reviews from real people. Also what helps are the Yelp Elites, who are Yelps true army of reviewers. If you take a look at an Elite profile they usally have a lot of good quality reviews as well as pictures and badges. Badges for the most part aren't really Yelps thing anymore but the reviews and pictures are where its at.

If you are bored with the same ole place everyday for lunch, just pull up Yelp locate, someplace nearby and start reading reviews.

Full disclosure I am also a Yelp Elite for three years. Which also means I get to go to cool Yelp Elite events. Such as free restaurant openings, beer and wine tastings and cool Yelp swag.

It's pretty pathetic how the real places reviews where bad stuff happen and is sold or served or delivered "suddenly they disappear".
I truly wonder what they do. Do they get money? They must. At this point, friends have put bad reviews on businesses and they disappeared.
Well done yelp! You haven't got my trust

Hi,
I'm Virginia and I'm from the Bronx, New York.
I would like to share my own experience with Legacy furniture store from Yonkers.
So, around 4 of July holiday, went to look for a bedroom set. After looking around in some stores, i get inside Legacy store and luckily I found my bedroom set here!
Was delivered very fast and placed in my bedroom! This set was nice but not quite a mach in style with the rest of furniture I had in the rest of my apartment.
I received a call from store asking me if everything was ok.
Then I explained to them about my concern and they were more than happy to make me happy with exchanging with another one!. Deal done!
My one of a kind bedroom set was already installed in my room and I was putting back my stuff inside drawers.
My jewelry were nowhere to be found! Panicked shocked upset... I went crazy!
I called the store manager, mr. Diab, hoping to get help from them.
After fort and back calls with him, he announced me he will personally look into this matter, and will come with or without jewelry at my door ( exactly his own words). Also this was happening now around July 16, a big holiday for Mr Diab.
To my surprise, after couple hours, Mr Diab, was standing in front my entrance door with a bag full.
He got a video done at warehouse of were my jewelry were found and in bag was everything I forget to remove from one drawer!
I'm very thankful to him and his employers that now I can enjoy my valuable jewelry that I thought are lost for good!
I can't thank you enough for this, Mr. Diab!

I highly recommend this florist. I live in Elk Grove, Ca and had no idea of a great Florist in Auburn. I luckily chose Petals and Sweets and they made the most BEAUTIFUL Bouquet of Fresh colorful flowers I have ever seen. I know this because the girl I sent them to called and told me and sent a picture. They also Included a VERY cute CHARM saying GET WELL SOON! The entire arrangement was Amazing! You won't be sorry if you choose them!

What alot of people don't know about yelp is that if your not a frequent yelper your good review means crap, and will not post in front. They move it to the do not recommend list. A non frequent yelper can write a review and if it's bad there review sticks in front. If your new to yelp and make a account and decide to write several reviews one after another your reviews mean nothing. I have written honest reviews and they mean nothing. I'm writing this review cause as a business I see alot of new customers and they write reviews and they never stick. Just because they don't do it everyday doesn't mean it's not honest. YELP SHOULD BE A SHAMED OF THEMSELVES. They are not helping businesses they are putting businesses in jeopardy and some might be accurate but I think for the most part they are wrong.

NOT happy with yelp
July 23, 2015

I think that yelp's "algorithm filter" is actually BS. They try to get you to advertise on their site and filter your five star reviews if you decline to do business with them. CRAPPY company. (but don't tell them I said so because online reviews are actually VERY important these days) concerned about retribution from this stupid company) I prefer google reviews, MUCH more honest and revealing about the true value of a company!

Failry honest
July 20, 2015

Everyone keeps going on about businesses trying to manipulate ratings but pretty much across the board the general consensus reigns supreme. Here and there some places aren't what they are cracked up to be but that can pretty much be chalked up to personal preference. All-in-all I hit up yelp first to research a new spot and will continue to do so for many years!

I recently wrote a negative review of a local restaurant on yelp.com
The owner begged me to remove it, it has been removed against my wishes
It was an honest review
Now my review is no longer available for public viewing
They obviously cater to the business owner and not the customer
All the time they claim "business owners can't pay to have reviews removed"
So why is my review no longer view-able?

These people are scammers they post negative reviews and keep the positive ones from getting posted unless you advertise with them. They literally call you up and try to blackmail you into advertising with them and tell you they will remove the negative ones and let the positive ones that were legitimately written by legitimate customers get posted. The negative reviews I have on my business are people that aren't even in our database as being clients as every single client has to be in our computer system and the negative reviews we received are not clients we have.
