The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

We monitor reviews for authenticity
I like to use Yelp for finding good restaurants and other local businesses. I have posted photos (they make it super easy) and it's handy when traveling. I am shocked that people here, on SiteJabber would give it a one star rating. That doesn't make any sense to me. At least they aren't begging for reviews the way AngiesList.com does... (I get tired of that)
Either way, thumbs up from me.
The best part of yelp is you are in the middle of town you do not know and you want a quick food stop, I use this site. BUt I am careful about reading through the reviews and read between the line. I think there is a lot of paid reviews on this site. That just skews the rating a bit.
I hardly ever rate here but Yelp placed my review once on an not accessful part of reviews. It was a restaurant that I had absolute horrible service and incident, Which prompted me to go and review in the first place. But I will not review anyting that is 3 or 2 unless the vendor site badgers me to review.
I go and review 5 stars and 1 stars usually.
Again Yelp lost its powerful go to site status by making me wonder about their reviews from my first hand experience and just the reviews that seem less than authentic.
After MANY years of posting on various subjects/business's... all of a sudden YELP removes all my reviews, after a new one was posted on a California business, they are located in California, I'm in Texas.
If YELP is unaware of internal affairs, I'm thinking YELP has someone working within taking bribes to assist the Business Owners perhaps unknown to them?... they can't be contacted all e mail has no~reply to sender... They don't care about your view apparently.
I find it difficult to believe that after all those years all of a sudden my reviews disappear, and the excuse is "no business contact with the company" Really, well it's very clear in the review I was a consumer why else would I review?. With legal behind all of reviews that had low rating... they also state Public Protection for others, I have nothing to gain, money or otherwise,... Also some of my rating were great with 5 Star ratings, they too are gone. So I have to rate one Star here! I have no choice if they will not consult with me or explain fully. There's contact to them for Business people, but not consumers with a review, odd!
Anyone else have this experience?
After having taken the time to write over a dozen reviews on their site, I finally felt comfortable enough to add my full name (as opposed to my initials) to my personal info. Their 'bot' automatically downgraded all of my reviews to 'Not Recommended.' I wanted to contact customer service and register a complaint but discovered that Yelp! Has NO contact whatsoever and that was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. I then decided to create an account on Angie's List (whcih in retrospect, I should have done to begin with). Angie's List provides contact info and Yelp! Proved to be nothing more than another amatuer feedback site. Angie's List is the REAL DEAL!
We have great reviews on every other business site, BBB, Kudzu, Google, MSN/Bing, etc. After several years, Yelp's "algorithms" tend to show unfiltered reviews that are negative to our business. We have sorted through all of the filtered/unfiltered reviews and still cannot figure out logically or mathematically how our score remains so low. Very frustrating and we feel it is unfair.
I was looking for a dentist in my area and found Dental Cosmetic Center of Houston. The staff was very nice and polite and friendly. I was nervous about going to the dentist. I meet Dr. Moon and he was a very nice dentist. He took his time and explained that I need a root canal and fillings. His staff made me feel comfortable and was patience with me.
Thank you Dr. Moon for making my experience in your office Great!
Because Yelp has been so popular, many people use it to give good reviews, and some use it to vent and/or slam businesses. The biggest problem that Yelp has is their ability to alter your reviews if you do not purchase advertising from them! They have actually been sued for this practice because they have actually defamed other businesses with their unorthodox behavior! It is NOT up to them to alter or hide reviews at their discretion because their advertising is not favored! They are BAD BUSINESS!
What I've heard (and hearing just on a radio station), they had a interview with one of the head ponchos on yelp. Explaining about the system where they filter good reviews and bad reviews. Supposedly they try to sell ads to certain business and "explain" to them they can help get rid of bad reviews... and increase the good ones to show up. Some say "no" and start noticing bad reviews filtering out more. I'm not sure what station it was, but you can try finding it online. There's a lot more to it as well. Just google it.
Again it's just mixed feelings. Even hearing that, I still use yelp and usually right good reviews for a lot of the places I go to. Only a few i wrote bad, but not to many. Pretty considerate guy. Good yelping!
Something sucks at Yelp.com, starting in 2014. Excellent, honest Reviews are deleted. Phony, worthless, unreliable reviews giving 5 stars with little detail or tangential, unrelated information are revered. Turns out Yelp.com wants advertising revenues so bad Yelp.com employees, mostly foreign workers, are assaulting businesses intent on getting advertising revenues. Once you pay the ad revenues, the bad reviews melt away. Oh, yes, Yelp is still taking money from merchants in 2019 to delete bad reviews. Same old, same old. If you fail to pay the ad revenues sought by Yelp.com, the good reviews melt away and new bad reviews surface. Yelp.com in true Orwellian ThinkSpeak continues to talk out of both sides of its mouth, even telling eyeballs looking at reviews that Yelp.com's top concern is for consumers. No way, no how. Yelp.com repeatedly violates free speech, treating real reviewers with true consumer feedback, with total disrespect and contempt, depending on Yelp's success extorting money from the businesses reviewed. The Yelp Ratings are dishonest and unreliable. Even people who once referred me to Yelp aren't bothering to check Yelp.com any more. If we had an honest government or criminal justice system, Yelp.com would be indicted for fraud and extortion. I have tried to exit the yelp community as a yelp reviewer, and written to yelp seeking assistance in exiting, and so far, I'm stuck associated with these bad actors.
Some bad reviews get posted when a lot of good reviews are hidden. Their excuse is that only people that have used your services can review and only those people that post a lot of reviews are posted. This is not true because one person that we refused to do business with posted a name calling bad review with all sorts of nonsense like I challenged him to a fist fight! They will NOT take it down, period.
I wrote three negative reviews, all according to guidelines. Each one was immediately relegated to the "not recommended" area. When I checked the "not recommended" area, it was filled with negative reviews from the last 12 months. The "recommended" area had mostly positive reviews.
This website is obviously biased and no one should use them as a primary source of information.
I DO NOT TRUST THIS SITE FOR ANYTHING. Every review I have left for local small business' has been put in the "Not recommended" section. I came to find out that none of those business' paid for yelp advertising so they don't list their positive reviews...
Once any one gives you a bad review even if it is false YELP claims they cannot remove it due to uncontrollable algorithms. Bull$#*!. They program the algorithms that means they can reprogram to remove anything they want. I'm done with this company as well. We pay over 350. US dollars monthly for this disservice. Not anymore this is an unreliable service which can really destroy anyone's business definitely not recommended.
They say you have to pay to have a false negative review removed. Then say sorry we can't remove any reviews good or bad due to algorithms which they have created. Just lies and bull$#*!. Avoid them like the plague. Sooner or later some idiot will post a negative review on your site and there will be nothing that will be done by Yelp
They give very useful information when it comes to dining, hotels and shows. Love them!
Yelp is a dumping ground for customers who want to complain. We bend over backwards for our customers - but, if you were to look on Yelp - you would never know. How do we get our Business OFF of Yelp! We know of other businesses that felt the same and they spent lots of time - finding friends/relatives etc. who would go on and write good reviews, just to make their bad reviews disappear. We also sell on Ebay and have a 100% rating.
I broke a front tooth the day after Thanksgiving. Trying to locate a dentist Thanksgiving weekend was hard - but when I found Dr John Lee at Rose City Dental Care my worries were over. He got me right in and repaired my tooth so the break wasn't even noticeable. I was very impressed!
This was a site we used to check for reviews and write reviews and then if and when you write a somewhat negative review about a business, they take it out. So what's the purpose of it if you can't find the bad stuff?
Not a reliable site to find the true value on something. Not reliable at all and its customer service sucks and they do not even write you when they take one of your review out.
Two thumbs down for it, as a person and as a company.
Evil company. It's like if the mafia created a website. They extort business into paying them a monthly "advertising fee" in exchange for good reviews. Google "yelp extortion" to read about it.
My reviews are always inexplicably hidden. There are usually dozens if not hundreds of other people's reviews which get mysteriously "filtered" out of the main page, and can only be read if you scroll to the bottom and click the faded gray link that says "read unrecommended reviews". Here you will find a more accurate rating of a business.
I can't tell you how many times i was tricked into thinking a business was good, only to realize that the reviews yelp has are filtered and skewed to be either good or bad according to how yelp wants to portray the business. Yelp is not the place to go for objective reviews.
When i had a particularly negative experience with a place and posted the review, my review was instantly filtered out. I looked at the hidden reviews to see that 30+ people had also given the same business 1 star, but their reviews were mysteriously filtered out. The reviews that weren't filtered were neutral. Very strange and not at all accurate.
Yelp is fine for customers who hustle business for free services to change there review. My business has been blasted by a small % of yelpers and when you click on there profiles they only give bad reviews. Such BS. They are not much better than people who sue with attorneys for phony claims hoping a business will settle than fight a costly battle!
Answer: Yes, it's true or they go to "not recommended"
Answer: Yelp are crooks, find some where else
Answer: For one of my business they made me pay for their monthly service which I never did, so my positive review was hidden.
Answer: Look somewhere else. As the reviews here show Yelp is notoriously unreliable.
Answer: Yes they erase all reviews they darn well wish to delete. CROOKED YELP!
