I have ordered from this company several times and the customer service is nothing short of exceptional! Highly recommend using this company if you want to send wine to someone.
We have had countless issues with Wine.com, but because of the pandemic, kept giving them another chance, but I would not recommend doing the same. In general, they provide you with false shipping estimates, and we have had some orders arrive 4 weeks after they were originally expected. Our last order was originanly supposed to arrive on 2/2. Then Fedex changed the shipping date to 2/5. Not a big deal. Then they changed the date to 2/8. When it was delivered 2/8, it was clear that somewhere during the shipping process, Fedex had allowed the box to freeze (it was being delivered to Chicago. Surprise, it's cold here in February!) One bottle had popped it's cork and was spilling all over the box. Two other bottles had popped their foil and had corks that were almost all the way out. We assume the entire case was frozen and thawed. I emailed customer service with no response. I attempted to "chat" with a customer service representative who told me that I could return the case but that they would not accept the opened bottle for a return or credit because it was against policy. How does this make sense when the bottle arrived opened to my home? Then the chat was cut off with no instructions or help for making a return. In short, we are out quite a bit of money for wine that is ruined. I would not shop here again given their lack of interest in resolcing what was most likely a failure on the part of Fedex.
I was charged a fraudulent order from wine.com for $250 and now I can't get a hold of anyone to get reimbursed.
Loved this company up until this last order. Ordered 8 bottles of Tequila on December 11th. Ths site says ships out tomorrow. Waited a week because the order didn't ship. Called to no avail because nobody answers, finally got a virtual service person 1 hour later. Told that they didn't have 2 bottles of tequila so they held the whole order up? Would you not have notified me this. Was told on December 18 they would expedite my order. January 5 still no tequila. Over 2 weeks! Finally get a hold of a live person who apologized and told me they dropped the ball. "Can I speak to a supervisor?"Told there was none available but one would call me back. Nobody every called me back. Really you can't get me the Tequila but on the site it is there and says it will ship tomorrow! Such a crock. Prior to this i have had 5 or 6 orders no problems. No service, no product this company sucks! As a bartender and drinker i highly recommend you avoid this company.
Ordered before New Year 10 days after order not delivery nothing. Will never use this site again. Not recommend
Ordered a bottle of wine for a customer 2 weeks before Christmas and they said it was in stock. Got an email a few days later saying that they were holding shipment due to weather. Weather was normal for time of year, not too hot, not freezing so was curisous why weather was an issue. Got an email 5 days before Xmas saying weather was ok for shipment and wine was being boxed in warehouse ready to ship. Followed up 2 days later seeing it had not shipped, told it was being packed. Followed up online 12/27 asking why it still had not shipped. Was told "sorry, busy with the holidays so we will go ahead and cancel your order". Sounds like they never had the bottle in stock and were just stalling for time. Will never purchase from again, just hoping they actually refund by credit card and not try to steal the money.
I asked for guidance and support and was told by the rep based on my order that it would be delivered on the 23rd. I asked chat several times as this is a gift and I am going on Vacation and wanted it delivered on time. I never received an update until I checked NOW and it will not be delivered on time. I paid a fricken lot to have them shipped and was a mistake in using this company. They are awful and I will never use them again. Go to total wine or anywhere else but them. They have bad reviews and I should have checked before making my purchase.
I have been ordering wine from wine.com for about 5 years now, maybe 6 years. For part of those years, I was a Stewardship member (free shipping for an annual fee). I have ordered Bordeaux futures as well as wines they have in stock. This is a summary of my experience with the company.
Website: 5/5 stars. Their website is by far the best website for finding information about wine. They have a tremendous number of wines in stock, and they contain not only information about that particular wine and vintage, but also information about the vigneron and other wines produced by that vigneron. They post the reviews of all the major wine reviewers, and you can see what the ratings were for that particular wine during other vintages - even if they do not have that wine in stock. Their layout is super helpful and pleasant. Their filtering options are above average. I disagree with some of their categorization of wines (e.g., some wines should be Rhone rather than Languedoc, etc.), but that is a rare issue.
Pricing: 3/5. Generally, wine.com has higher prices that elsewhere. Bordeaux futures are comparable. If I use a 10% case discount and utilize my Stewardship membership, the price is roughly equivalent to what I would pay locally with the high Chicago taxes. However, this is when I buy a case of wine. I don't find buying less than a case economical unless there is a 10% > $200 coupon or something with the free shipping membership. There's probably an overhead and a desire to make a profit here, but that's OK. This is just an assessment of their competitiveness in terms of pricing.
Phone App: 4/5. The App (at least the android app) is almost as functional as the website. It is a little buggy at times, but it has the basic functionality that the website has with the addition of using a barcode scanner and camera to search for wines. When I am in local stores in Chicago, I typically use the wine.com app to look at prices and ratings.
Customer Service: 3/5. I've had a mediocre-to-above-average experience with customer service reps. The wait can frequently be long, and if you're not looking for recommendations and want to ask questions about your order, shipment, etc., sometimes they can be helpful; sometimes they are not. This can be frustrating, but I don't frequently have to involve customer service.
Shipping 5/5. I've had about 30 cases of wine delivered over the years. One case was substandardly packaged (they forgot the top casing that stabilizes the wine bottles upright). I informed them about it, and since none of the bottles were damaged (ha! California cabs and their thick glass bottles), there was really no recourse. The first time I ordered, I had them send it to my home. This was a major disaster since my wife and I weren't home the three times FedEx attempted to deliver, and I had to pick it up at a regional FedEx store. I don't consider this to be a wine.com problem, rather a FedEx problem. If people are complaining about the delivery, they should complain to FedEx -- the company actually delivering the product. Certainly neither FedEx nor wine.com can be blamed for the fact that an adult >21 is not home to sign the receipt. Certainly wine.com cannot be blamed for a FedEx delivery man who just drops the case on the porch without a signature. Since that first occasion, I had FedEx deliver to Walgreens, and I just pick it up at my convenience. Yes, it would have been nicer to have it delivered to my home, but sometimes we're just not home when FedEx comes by. Now, since I am a member at a wine storage facility, the deliveries are managed by them and the wine goes into my storage locker. I've checked all the boxes -- never damaged and always complete.
COVID Issues: Come on, folks. During a global pandemic when people are sick or dying and when all these government regulations are being enforced and shipments of all kinds are being delayed, you're going to give wine.com a 1/5 star rating because it took a few extra days to deliver your wine? You're going to complain that it took a couple of weeks to process the order and ship it? Ok, I get that it's an annoyance, but we're not talking about the delivery of flour, toilet paper and water -- those, you know, essential things in life. If you need your bottle of wine now for a special occasion and it is time sensitive, go to a store and pick it up or something equivalent. If wine.com is the only place that has that very special one bottle, plan ahead.
I order from a few other on-line retailers, and I've never really had any issues with any of them. The longest one took was about 6 weeks, but I was ordering from a mom & pop wine shop in Connecticut. I think I would be scared to order from wine.com if I had read all these reviews first, but that's not the way it happened. They have issues, but their selection is excellent. Their pricing is OK. Their customer service is so-so. But, they make ordering wine exceptionally easy -- especially in a state that is a national disgrace, regulation heavy and a nightmare to live in (Illinois).
Beyond disappointed. 11-30-2020 ordered a Christmas present to be delivered Dec. 18th. When that date came and it still hadn't shipped, I emailed customer service, no response until 2 days later saying they are not sure why it hasn't shipped, she'll get back to me. Today is 12-21-20 and it still has not been shipped. I called customer service, they said they can not guarantee Christmas delivery, because it was so late. I ordered almost a month before Christmas! I asked to speak to a manager to see if they could overnight, but no one called me back. What the heck?! Completely unacceptable when your spending over $200 there. They have NO customer service. Look elsewhere for wine delivery.
Whatever it is that was wrong with Wine.Com over this past summer seems to be fixed. My previous order was a disaster- delivered very late, no information, just awful. About 2 weeks ago I received a very nice apology and generous discount so I decided to try them again. Everything worked perfectly- delivered exactly as promised and I was able to use the apology coupon and made a second order to use a very good coupon that they had sent my husband. So if you used to like them, you might want to give them a second chance. We have been members for about 10 years and except for this past summer, have always been quite pleased with their service.
I ordered 2 wine and cheese sets only to find out that they do not come as shown in the picture... and arrive on different days. Wine one day. And as of now, they were unable to tell me when the cheese was going to arrive. Very disappointed.
Besides the worst Customer Service ever, this company overcharges most of the wines if compared with other sellers. What makes this seller awful it's the negligence, discrimination and mistreatment you get from most of the customer service agents. It feels like they are trained to treat you like worthless consumer.
After I complained about issues with my others during their "fictitious" system upgrade, they decided to block my account without notice or any explanation why. Some of my orders were charged in full, but delivered with missing wines. My credit card was charged three times for "orders" that were never delivered. The issues were never clarified or resolved, forcing me to open disputes with my credit card. I have opened a new account after that and once they found out, the new account was also blocked from the blue. At the end of three months of complaints, no responses and 5 blocked accounts, I filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau (BBB). So, BBB contacted wine.com twice and no response was sent. BBB then advised me to write as letter to the Attorney general, which I am working on right now. Wine.com must improve its customer service practice and policy if they want to stay in the Market.
I should have read the reviews before joining the Membership! A waste of $50. My first order was delayed for months. What I did receive was very good. I received an email with a coupon code to make up for the delay. When I tried to use it, again my order was not shipped after over a month. When I contacted them to find out why they just cancelled my order. I cannot get through to customer service. The person that helped me on chat stated she wasn't getting an answer, to call customer service later in the week. When I called, I wasn't even given the option of waiting on hold, I was just disconnected due to the long line of unhappy customers!
I've used this company for years with zero complaints. However as of September 2020 the train went off the rails. They take your money, and never deliver the product. When you call Customer Service, you're on hold forever and ever -- no one takes your call. When you email asking WHEN the wine will be delivered... they LIE. They use ann excuse about a "new ordering system" or some glitch with their technology, and (I'm serious) they literally CAN'T tell you when your order will be delivered. I finally cancelled my order back in September, logged onto another website, and BAM -- my wine order was delivered in 4 days as promised. So now it's November, 2 months later, and I thought maybe I can give Wine.Com a try again. NOPE. Just go online and read the reviews. It's not any better, actually it sounds like it's worse. HOW DOES THIS EVIL COMPANY STAY IN BUSINESS?
I am still waiting for a shipment that was promised, I tried to cancel but they kept me on hold for almost an hour before I had to give up. I am so sorry I did not read the reviews before using Wine.com. Stay away from this sham website, after you order, they have some lame warning about delays, lol, let people know BEFORE they order. Move to another service
My recent Oct 14,2020 order was originally estimated to arrive on Oct. 19. By Oct 26, still no wine and no updates on their website so I called. I talked to a very helpful person who explained one of the bottles was out of stock and recommended a suitable replacement. I accepted the replacement suggestion (which was $4 cheaper than the original bottle) and received my entire revised order in a timely manner However, upon comparing the details of the revised order to the original order, I discovered that while the replacement bottle was indeed shown as $4 less, my overall bill was actually ~$1 more. Closer inspection revealed that my pretax total was correct, $4 less than my original order pretax total. However, the sales tax charged on the revised order was $5 more! I called again on Oct 27 and spoke to another person. After finally getting the rep to understand my confusion regarding how was it possible to pay more sales tax on a less costly order, she told me she would have her manager call me. So, as of Oct. 30, no call and also no answer to my 2 subsequent emails on the subject. Seems fishy to me!
Ordered wine for specific date. Never arrived and called and emailed them for several days. Absolutely no one answered the phone or contacted me regarding my problem. Try any other company for your wine.
If you place an order with this disgrace of a company then you deserve exactly what you get, which will invariably be nothing except a credit card bill! I wish I had read these reviews prior to placing my first - and definitely last - order with these clowns. It was a $70 lesson, but one I have undoubtedly learned. To add insult to injury, as many people have already noted, there is NO WAY of getting in touch with anyone from the ironically named customer service. Considering there are so many better options available I have no idea why any sane person would ever place an order with wine.com. Please join me in wishing they go bankrupt ASAP. Thank you.
After having a shipment go missing some 5 weeks ago I have been trying to contact wine.com in all the ways listed on their web site. I've tried to call many times and was hung up on every time. Their "chat" has held me waiting for 45 minutes and longer with never anyone responding. Even their customer service email NEVER responds although the emails were sent over and over in the last month. I've never has such poor customer service from any company. I'll never do business with them again.
Ordered oc1 1. Was told (and still says) expect to receive oct 5. Today is oct 17. Called and chatted multiple times. I'm told this is due to an implementation of a new inventory system. Any successful company has a rollback plan in case an IT upgrade fails. Can't understand.
My order is for 31 bottles. Can't get an estimated ship date. This is not how you run a successful business
