I have a whole house full of weather shield signature casements. They look wonderful and perform even better.
Problem w/ a 4 panel patio door w/ 40 separate glass panes/ 4 of which have failed across 3 panels.
'We don't make that style any more and don't have anyone to repair it or even come out on a paid service call to see it." Nothing to do but replace. I WILL NOT order a replacement Weather Shield door. I will order w/ a company that has a customer friendly service motto. This door has been in place for 23 years.
We did a major remodel through a contractor and replaced and added numerous Weathershield windows and doors. There were about 3 large double hungs, 3 sizable casement windows, one outside door, and five large fixed windows. The seals have been gradually failing, one by one, starting with year one. Now about half of them are bad, but only two of them are so bad that you can't really see through them. Over 20 years later this year we finally took action -- to see about replacing the failed panes. Too late! 20 year guarantee. The lesson that we learned is to complain immediately about failed seals. I can't offer a proof of purchase because the contractor bought and installed them.
I purchased (2) 72" x 60" aluminum clad sliders manufactured by Weather Shield. Both panels operate, so they required a insect screen approximately the full size of the unit (29sq').
The screens sent with the unit are industry standard construction according to Jeffrey Fitzgerald (SoCal Territory Manager). That is a great but my screens are really big and he nor owner Mark Shield will acknowledge that fact. The extrusion used on screen doors including Weather Shield are 1 1/4" -
1 3/4" industry wide even by the vinyl window company's. This being said, my screens are larger than most screen doors and they are only 1/2" frames. I feel poor judgment was made on the part of Weather Shield i. E., Jeffrey Fitzgerald, Mark Shield, to not make a poor design right. The screens are flimsy and already bent from falling out of the frame. I feel customer service is poor when you need to cc the boss to get any communication started. Good luck with your team Mr Shield and I won't be endorsing your product anytime soon.
P.S. I'm getting tired of spraying silicone on the track so the panels will slide.
Regards,
Vince Flores
I had a piece of bad glass on a 20 year old window. The rep Victor came out twice to confirm the size help me get the correct glass re-ordered and recommended a glass company to install. The installer was very professional and everything turned out great.
I was a bit skeptical about buying Weather Shield because I read it a couple of poor reviews, but I saw their new Next Generation Door and loved it. It is so cool. I also found out they quit making their own glass and are working with Cardinal glass call just like Anderson and Marvin windows. My windows and door look amazing, and they were 20% less than Marvin with a better warranty.
Major leakage in supposedly what we were told has been "once in a lifetime event." In less than four years, windows leaked multiple times. The supposed "20-year warranty" is useless. We still have to pay for the service call and all we are told is that there is nothing wrong, and they may spray some cheap sealant on it. Don't purchase these windows.
I have had these windows for 3 years and seal failure is a major problem. My friend had 4 seal failures. I had 3 seal failures of windows. Major problem
Ordered 23 double hung windows and three doors. Window lite profile was not what I was shown at time of order. When I contacted distributor, they said that WeatherShield had the right to change even though I was required to pre-pay. In order to stay on schedule with contractors we needed to install these and wait for WS to respond. After no response we took them to court and they settled at a discount. I really wish that I had them all removed and went with a different brand (like P... A). Several issues are creeping up. Broken springs so they won't stay up, fogging, and shrunk felt strip at the base allowing bugs and wind to enter the house. Hardware lost it's finish within a few months and looks pitted. WS said that window cleaner will do that!. We hadn't yet cleaned the windows, but that's not the point if the hardware won't hold up to window cleaner. WS replaced a couple windows that had defects like stuff between the glass and miss-aligned divided lites. And guess what? The replacements were the profile I had wanted in the first place, supposedly no longer being manufactured. My distributor has ignored me and now WS as well. These people are liars and cheats. I can't help but look at these 23 windows and feel like I was so stupid for not choosing another familiar brand. Our architect recommended WS.
Very glad we chose Weather Shield. We were skeptical because of the other reviews on this site, but 3 years later and everything is great. Our neighbors started getting Weather Shield Windows too. I guess the installer is what matters. We had one handle break last week and our contractor came to fix it the next day. No other issues at all. Great products.
Absolutely awful product and even worse customer service. Windows have broken their seals and are foggy and sweaty. Doors are leaky and the custom wood trim is stained and ruined. When you file a warranty claim they will stall and stall until your warranty expires and then charge you for replacements. I spent 40 grand on garbage. AVOID
We built a new log home by The Original Lincoln Logs. They only offered Weather Shield windows with a 20 year warranty. We felt safe until the seals failed on our patio door after we'd been in the home only 15 months. We thought they were just dirty. And did not contact them until the entire window was filthy looking between the glass. It had obviously been a problem for some time, but Weather Shield's small print states they do not cover the installation service later than two years after delivery, several months of which time the home was still under construction. Now, they say we need to pay to have their attempt at replacing their faulty product installed. So much for their 20 year warranty! Do not purchase Weather Shield windows, Life Guard or Crestline or any other name this company goes by. The parent company also owns Peachtree. Buyer Beware! This company does not stand by their product, which if you read reviews is failing too often.
We built our home 3 years ago. Within 6 months we had the rep out for leaks and unable to close windows. Rep made adjustments to the arm, and said to let him know if any additional leaking occurred. Emailed him again as the seals were clearly broken and mold growing in the windows. The rep stretched out coming over and then replied saying he could clearly see the seals were broken in the pictures we submitted. Now they want to charge us to come and look at the windows.
On 19/4/18 I had some widows put in
The installers said they would return to make good on the inside, they have not! One of the sealed units has a crack in the glass, I was assured it would be replaced, it has not! I've heard nothing from the company for many months.
After 10 years all of our window have bad seals and spots all over glass. Built in 2003. Their dealers are no help at all. Weather Shield are not made to last. We have 35 windows that need replacement. Don't purchase from them.
1994 - Wanted casement windows (vinyl outside, oak inside, triple paned) to improve the looks of our home. Chose WS because of the quality of the window, wood choices, overall looks and price. Installer was great and I have no problem with the actual window frame. The sashes are another issue. The smaller casements only have one lock on them and therefore don't seal well at the bottom. The weather stripping is barely there, flimsy, thin, not enough to actually seal the window. The windows had air leaks even when new. If the weather suddenly changes from hot to cold, enjoy the huge air leak until the window adjusts to the new temperature. The hardware is cheap and has broken. The vinyl exterior is okay on the sashes but the base at the bottom is very thin vinyl and has gotten hail damage holes so had to fix that myself as insurance company didn't really cover that (same if you get hail damage on your driveway). Fast forward to 2019. I have been renting this property since 2005 and went to check the property after tenant moved. The larger windows with 2 locks are fine but the smaller ones with one lock definitely have wood damage along the bottom of the sash and frame. Bad design. I would never recommend WS to anyone. I purchased Pella for my current home. Much better quality. Have been installed since 2002 and absolutely zero problems.
My husband and I were building our dream home and needed to shop for windows. The builder gave us some options but theres a dealer close to our property we found who sells WeatherShield. We really liked him and liked the look of the windows for our modern design. Well to say the least I found this website! I was nervous and scared about this but at the same time I felt comfortable with who we worked with. I will say our last house had bad windows and installation was not good - I believe that was a big difference on our recent project our builder was great and experienced. I felt compelled to come back and leave a review since it was this website that almost lead me away!
In the last 14 yrs. We've replaced at least 9 large casement windows, 2 large stationery windows, and the sidelight to the front door, all because of broken seals. Today we replaced our 11.6 ft. Sliding door! Not by choice. One panel had rotted at the bbase and Weathershield no longer makes a replacement for it... we had to redo the entire expanse! The good news is that the new door is from Marvin!
Try calling the CS line just to see BEFORE you order windows! *******995. I waited 15 minutes to talk to a rep who did not care how long I waited and did not apologize or even really answer my questions.
Again try calling before you order to see!
Answer: The front of my house looks like a joke. They totally changed the appearance of the house for the worse and blamed it on codes. When does roofing codes require you to cover brick window frames with aluminum and tar? I'm too embarrassed to even post a picture.
Answer: Ours has really bad pile (if that is what the felt like stuff is called) that shrinks
