I still think it's worth the investment however, the new membership options are confusing and overwhelming. I am on the waiting list for too long for the top membership program - no updates from v123 where I stand. Im ranked in top 20% but still offered little in paying jobs and also projects that are "in perpetuity" - so my options on projects to audition for are even more limited.
This site very good in everything. I'm working Voice over in this site and I feel like with the site.
I have been active on voice123 for many years, and it has proven fruitful for me as a voice artist to build up my client list, with many returning customers having come of it. The site went through some major updates recently and is still constantly evolving and improving upon its functionality and user interface, but I visit it almost daily. Recommended!
In the past, voice123 offered non-English membership, but this year they didn't offer. And the custom support lady ignored my asking.
The works of Chinese language are very few comparing to English, so please consider open the special membership again in the future.
Voice 123 needs tweaking. Far too often I receive invitations that don't match what I filled out on my profile, when I signed up. I don't do different voices. I don't speak a foreign language or have an ethnic accent and I can't sound like a 20 year old. And then there is the issue of payment. I've learned its better to get the job on the site but exchange email addresses and phone numbers with the clients and finish the work off the site. You get paid quicker. Until I find something better, I'll stick with it. This is a great idea but needs tweaking.
I increased my membership level and have gotten more work. It has paid for the increase in membership. Until I can find a better alternative, I'll stick with Voice 123.
It is very difficult to win work. Many invitations are for a wide range of voices, and so the competition will be intense.
Far too often invitations are withdrawn before the deadline, meaning it is impossible to plan sensibly.
The pay offered is very low for the work involved.
Premium membership is not value for money, in my experience.
Within a month of becoming a "Premium" member I was landing gigs. For most gigs, the pay makes sense in my opinion (union workers may disagree). I audition for 15-20 invitations a day and probably land 1 gig per 30-40 invites. If you hustle you'll make your money.
That being said, the website is sluggish and is not well equipped to handle the amount of users on it. At high traffic times it can struggle to keep up and pages regularly crash/won't load. This can be a little frustrating.
The payout method is almost useless for Voice123. They take 6% and pay out on a net-30 period. There is no way to track this payment when it is in limbo and it seems to be done manually by actual people. Fortunately they allow (maybe expect?) you to invoice your clients outside of their system. I just use Paypal.
If they had a more robust site to handle the traffic, and a better automated payment process I would give Voice123 five stars easily.
Overall, I'm really not too impressed with Voice123 anymore. I've been a paying member coming up on two years now - the $395 per year premium membership.
They recently changed their interface and it's even more complicated than it was before, and it was clumsy to begin with... Many times, relevant information is missing from the clients as well - they want a quote but there are no word counts, missing audition scripts, bad links to project pages, etc.
You'd think that the staff at Voice123 would be more diligent in reminding the clients of this. Most of the time I'm constantly having to reload their projects page because of a "Network Error" connectivity message with their logo attached to it. Weird...
Now, I have been awarded work off of Voice123 as a premium member but I really don't feel that I've gotten my money's worth of Access to all of the available auditions posted. They have this strange algorithm which only allows me to receive Some invites to the posted auditions.
And, more often than not, by the time I get invited to audition for a project Way too many have been submitted already. Additionally, I note that many times more auditions are submitted per project than the client requested which I find odd.
I suppose if I paid their higher membership fees I might get invited to more and sooner, but I'm not doing that.
Now, the people I've spoken with on the phone at Voice123 are very nice, but they've never been able to adequately explain how their convoluted invite algorithm actually works to me. Or, more to the point I mentioned above, it's probably very simple - if I paid them $888 per year, the more invites I'd probably get and I'd probably get to audition first as well.
I believe they should charge one rate for membership, post all auditions publicly and allow the Voice Talents to compete for them all across the board and leave who gets awarded the job to the client.
Interestingly, the majority of work I've gotten from Voice123 is from clients who've listened to my profile samples and contacted me directly bypassing the audition process altogether. So, in this regard, I may leave my profile up, but I'm not inclined to renew my membership this year.
I'm currently "ranked" in the top 20% of talent, and see at least a dozen projects posted daily. Typically the pay offered is a mere $100 - $150, licensed in perpetuity, for 1 - 5 minutes of VO, well below any established industry standard. It is widely rumored on social media that successful users are those that have been on the platform at least 5 years, and having joined prior to sweeping changes made to the site and algorithms in 2017. Since those changes there doesn't seem to be an avenue to success for new users.
The site seems to be lacking information. Its VERY difficult to win bids and the project invites are few. I imagine if you opt for the $600 membership, you would be more likely to win bids. I wasn't willing to gamble away $600. I will stick with voices.com, at least I can compete on that site.
I have been on the Voice 123 roster for over 10 years as a French Canadian voice. They are a reputable online VO agency, offering a variety of talents and allowing their talent to customize their profile to make sure clients can easily find the right candidate for their projects.
Es maravilloso sentirse parte de esto. Cuando crees que tu experiencia y trabajo es suficiente, te das cuenta de la cantidad de extraordinarios profesionales que colaboran para que te esfuerces en mejorar. Ese es mi reto, al menos.
I am Latin American Spanish Speaker. Maybe for this reasons the site has been always helpul for me. I am platinum member since 2010 almost and I got a lot of jobs in Spanish. Between 2015 and 2016 decreased something.
I didn't renew my premium account. Curiously, I received more direct invitations being just a standard member! And most of the auditions I won. Plus, the first clients after the first job just contacted me directly. Some of them I met personally in San Francisco, LA, Miami, NY and Tampa. Some of those jobs were related to dubbing to Spanish. Other clients I met through remote sessions.
At this time, you wonder, is it really worthly to pay a membership just to get more auditions and higher rating? Does really matter a rating?
I've been a paid member of Voice 123 for several years now and every year I basically get enough jobs to just cover the cost of the yearly fee. Interesting. Just enough work to keep me coming back. Then this year, 2020, I have won just 1 job so far and after that I am barely getting any auditions at all. Where I used to get many a day I now am only getting a few, 3 or 4 a week. Voice 123 says it's because of my "rating". Which, interestingly enough, is managed by their own convoluted calculations that no one understands, it is cloaked in secrecy and they can't even explain it so that it makes sense. I was recently told that there are levels of paying members that are not advertised. Very high priced memberships and supposedly those are the only ones that really get any jobs. I don't know if that is true, but I know this, it seems like Voice 123 gives you jobs if they like you and if they don't, you won't get anything.
It's amazing the number of projects a person can audition for without a bite. This can be very discouraging. Especially when a person has extensive experience and a huge resume. I have connected with only ONE job after probably 60+ auditions in the past month. So I am especially shocked when I see Brian K with a review stating he books 4-6 jobs a week. Would love to know what he's doing right and I'm doing wrong. I have come to the conclusion that Voice 123 is a service in business to over charge voice over talents in an effort to line their own pockets with cash. They have different "levels" of subscription fees ranging from the $300 + per year amount to over $4000 per year. And those fees only give you access to audition scripts. No guarantee of work. But by spending a larger amount of $$ on your subscription, you are allegedly given a shot at bigger better jobs and a smaller pool of auditioning talent. This allegedly gives you a better chance of getting the job. Who falls for this crap?
I'm a newcomer in voiceover! I heard good things about Voice123 and decided to give it a try. I wanted to make sure my profile is set up correctly, and rest assured, I had a lot of questions. I contacted customer support, and I was impressed by how fast they were in answering my questions! Not to mention the feedback they gave me on how to set my profile correctly. Thank you so much!
I book 4-6 auditions a week through Voice123, which contributes about $55K - 60K to my yearly VO income. And about half of of my returning clients have come via prior Voice123 bookings.
As an agency offering voices to clients, this is very helpful to find voices that fit a briefing quickly. Even though we have our own database we can find new voices with this page all the time.
So often everything has to happen instantly and once I forgot to tick a box and the whole casting did not work. The support noticed, changed it for me and saved my project. Thanks!
I've been using v123 for several years now. Even though a lot has been going on around the platform recently, I will always be thankful to v123 for giving me some of my best work. Sure there are days when not much is happening, but I've never felt like it wasn't worth my time or money. I have secured repeat clients and made a decent amount of money. I wouldn't bet on it to be my sole bread earner but it does what it is supposed to.
