This website tries to upsell you at every point, even when it has no utility for you. In fact, TurboTax shouldn't even exist -- the IRS knows how much I owe them. Why should I have to pay ~$100 per year for a shady company to tell them?
What's more, is they clearly have a security breach. The very second I submitted my tax return, I got a scam text. It took me 30 minutes to get someone on the phone to tell TurboTax about it, and once I did, she had no ability to actually help in any way.
It was a simple return. But, for a student. Well, the free online one isn't free anymore, it's $59, and they'll let you know after all information is entered. Ok, $59, I'll pay. Whoops, did you want to file state too? That's another $59. $118 for a simple return. Never again.
As I filled out my taxes this year it told me to get my return I had to upgrade my package for $59. However, in my cart, it then showed $118 as it charged me the original amount twice for federal and state and then attempted to tack on an additional $39 fee to use my own tax return to checkout with at the cart.
If I could choose the score it would be Zero. Turbo tax OVER charge and even charge items that should not be charged. Not even legal. In the state of Florida there it does not exist such of thing. They charged it without option not allowing saying that if not pay it is not going to be file to the IRS.
I have bee retired for 4 years and our taxes are very simple. I thought I would try the "free" online version of turbotax. As I entered the data, it kept saying I had to pay an additional amount to do that. Ended costing me $80. Don't use the online version. The disc is OK.
Been using turbo tax for many years. This year paid extra fees to make sure it was done right. Anyway never received refund. Just got the runaround and told to wait another 120 days. Nothing " turbo" about it.
Called turbo tax for my refund that was sent to them 3 months ago. This call was about 3 hours of my time. They said it is in California bank and they will send me my return. Called this place 3 days in a row and no response other than I will get my return in 2 days (every time I call) I sit on hold with this California bank for over 2 hours for 3 days in a row. Call turbo tax back they have automated machine tell me to call IRS and hang up on me. These people have my return and will not give it to me for 4 months now. I have no idea to get my money.
I decided to try Turbo Tax this year. I used the online version but kept finding an error in the calculation. The helpdesk could not help me correct the problem. So instead, I used H&R Block's online tax service. The H&R Block return was correct. I requested a refund from Turbo Tax, and they refused. So don't use Turbo Tax.
I paid with my personal credit card on their site for the deluxe versios Federal and State CD.
After loading and filling everything out and being ready to file, the program locked up. Re-loaded, same issue. Tried contacting them, kicked to their Q&A which does nothing. Tried for a refund. Same thing. Tried calling. Overseas rep couldn't help. Filed a complaint with them on-line. Message came back that the complaint was closed. Ended up taking my taxes to a professional preparer.

I selected the Premier online product when I started my tax return, since I have some stocks and mutual funds. However, after I finished filing my return, I noticed on the invoice that I was charged for the "Premium" package, even though this wasn't even an option when I started to file my taxes. I don't even know what Premium is, but when I looked online, it said that this is for California residents. I DON'T LIVE IN CALIFORNIA AND I DON'T FILE CALIFORNIA TAXES!
When I contacted their service department, they told me that it's too late because I paid for the service. I'm sorry that I wasn't keeping an eye out for being potentially bait and switched, and that you have two products with almost identical names. And it's funny that Intuit doesn't let you upload reviews on their website. Maybe they only pick and choose people based on whether they think the reviews will be positive. Anyway, screw you Turbotax
Turbo Tax needs to die. Terrible interface constantly using tricks to get you to pay money you don't need to. Mandatory "upgrade" to paid service if you- get this - DONATED. Should be one of the simplest items to add on to a return, especially online. And if you're filing with a spouse, well they have to be automatically "upgraded" too, even though we both have probably about the simplest tax forms around.
We paid last year (for the first time ever) after having the same issue, but this year it's up significantly in price. Can't say enough bad things about this company. Goodbye and good riddance.
I was doing my taxes on TurboTax online and put in my credit card information just to get a total and they charged my card even though I didn't complete filing and they refuse to refund my money. Now my bank is in the negative thanks to them. I am beyond pissed cuz now I'm stuck with a negative bank account which I don't have the money to put back in. Thanks for screwing me turbo tax.
I've been using Turbo Tax for several years now to file my wife's and I taxes. Used to be pretty straight forward then last years filing I found a little more confusing to navigate. This year is even worse. I just wasted $25 on this crap software. I'll be taking our returns to a tax person. Thanks Turbo Tax! See ya!
The whole purpose of this program should be to make it as easy as possible to file your taxes. Unfortunately, they charge ridiculous prices. They sneak in extra charges, which they don't make transparent when you select the option. They up charge the package you choose. There is no transparency with the the price and differences between each package.
Better yet, good luck getting a refund! If you try to argue it you will be stuck on the phone for hours making various calls and receiving mixed answers. If you are lucky enough to get a refund it won't even be for the correct amount. They scam you like crazy!
I was very disappointed with TurboTax. I was filing taxes for my senior mother. I kept trying to use the free tax version, because it was a simple 1040 return. When I got to the end, the site wouldn't allow me to use the free tax version. It automatically used the 1040SR version. This was deceptive in the fact that now you have to pay for at least the Deluxe version which was $59. My mother didn't want to start over (her taxes have been filed with TurboTax for the past 3 years). She and I were frustrated at this point. The 1040SR form is a form with a larger print for seniors. This was done on the computer, not paper form, so why were we forced to use that version. To top it off, they also charged a $39 processing fee. I will NEVER use TurboTax ever again. A customer should be able to choose which form they would like to use. Never again, this company targets the elderly. My mother paid $157 for a simple tax filing.
Got the "live chat" support product only to have one of TurboTax's "experts" tell me COMPLETELY INCORRECT information, and have me make a bunch of changes to my forms only to then have issues filing, with me having to go back and correct everything wasting hours of my time between the call and all the corrections I had to make on my own. I called customer service asking for a refund of the "live support" product given their rep only did harm, and was told "no problem, we'll get that resolved, and to fill out a form and I'd get a refund. I filled out the form as requested and a few hours later got an email that my request was denied, despite the agent I spoke with earlier telling me I'd get a refund. Called and waited to talk to someone else who wasn't able to help me but connected me to the "resolutions desk". Was met with complete hostility by this person who pretty much shrugged her shoulders and said TurboTax wasn't willing to do absolutely anything and that I would still have to pay the $200 for the completely incorrect information from one of their "experts" gave me. In what world is this acceptable?! Awful experience, awful service. Pretty much theft at this point, TurboTax, you should be ashamed.
In 2021 I closed my small home hobby business. When filing for 2022 taxes, TurboTax had me going in circles because I could not remove the entry for the home business. It forced me to enter $1 of income before it would move on the the next screen. Even after entering this tiny amount, the program kept asking me about assets, paying employees ( I never had employees), and other business related questions. The program should ask the question, are you still running this business, and then allow you to respond without wasting your time beating a dead horse. What a giant waste of time.
I always do my taxes myself so thought I would try the "Free" Turbo Tax because we have very simple tax returns. It was going along great and I was very impressed by how easy it was to use. Then I was told that since I had to file a schedule 3 I would have to upgrade for $59 to get a $400 credit. So, I thought, no big deal. Then...when it came time to file my state taxes it asked for another $59...very deceiving. I thought the first $59 covered Federal and State...because you can't do your state until you do your federal. Very disappointing. The site itself was awesome...very easy to use. But I think the "free" turbo tax should be explained WAY better up front. We pay enough in taxes I find it absurd that we need to pay extra to do them! But, I already had almost 2 hours invested so of course I paid the $126 fee.
I recently used TurboTax to file my taxes and had a terrible experience. Not only did my return get rejected by the IRS, but I also had to spend countless hours on the phone with their customer service representatives, who were unhelpful and unresponsive.
I initially called TurboTax to ask a quick question and was not looking for the Live assisted services. Unfortunately, the phone call took longer than expected, and I was directed to use the Live assisted option when I was checking out. At that time, I was not aware that Live is a non-refundable product.
When my return was rejected by the IRS, I contacted TurboTax to try and fix the issue but was unsuccessful. As a result, I had to go to an accountant and pay them to file my taxes. I have already filed with them and do not see the need to use TurboTax's services in the future.
Despite explaining my situation and requesting a refund, TurboTax denied my refund request twice. Their customer service representatives were unhelpful and unresponsive, and my issue was thrown from one representative to the other, leaving me extremely frustrated and disappointed with the lack of resolution.
To me, it looks like a scam where TurboTax is taking my money without providing any value in return. I was not aware that Live is a non-refundable product, and I believe that I should be entitled to a refund given the circumstances.
I would strongly advise against using TurboTax for your tax filing needs. Their customer service is terrible, their Live assisted product is a scam, and their refusal to provide refunds is unacceptable. Save yourself the time, frustration, and money and use a different tax filing service.
When I first filed with turbo tax I was done within minutes, literally. It is no longer like that. I can now file my own taxes faster than "turbo" tax due to how often the site pushes its numerous useless "deluxe" packages ad nauseum. They had one job, file my taxes fast and not gouge me on the price.
On top of this their ui does not interface well with my new android. Its so bad that I can't even provide them feedback on their own site. When I called them their operator was playing some kind of game saying that they couldn't hear me. They also have no email contact.
From now on I'll just file my own taxes.
Answer: Very difficult to get, had to call numerous times to get a response and then there was no, let me help you with that. They were uncaring about my situation, I had to pursue questioning what they can do and would end up forwarding me to departments that did not respond.
