I had one successful house sit with a great review. However, the 2nd was a disaster which has made me realise we as SITTERS need to be very cautious. On the day I arrived the poorly behaved dog ransacked a near brand new Italian leather bag, pulled all the contents out, destroyed a lipstick... chewed a hole in it. I was extremely upset and decided to notify the owners straight away rather than leave it till the end of the holiday, when they came home all relaxed etc. This bag was expensive. I said I was very upset and that I would need to be compensated for this loss... they were non responsive to a degree. When I contacted Trusted House Sitters... I was given a curt response."oh well dogs will be dogs" type of thing... I was told that surely the people would help out but it was nothing to do with them and they weren't interested in the complaint. They don't take sides.
I then raised with them " And what if I had damaged the owners belongings or house"... well that's different. You would receive a caution and reprimand and I received an email warning me. And so the inequality was staring me in the face... I had nothing to fall back on, and no support from Trusted Sitters. No insurance. WE AS SITTERS DO NOT HAVE THE SAME PROTECTION AS OWNERS.
After numerous emails and rants, they began to back down and say oh well you can make a formal complaint. I knew that would be a total waste of time. I had unfortunately come across some awful people who really couldn't care less, chastised me for spoiling their holiday and did not compensate me for my bag... as their Jag sat in the garage of their tres expensive home. I thought that was appalling, but worse still, I completed the sit of 2 weeks without a word of thanks and they even ignored my checkout message. And also when I arrived I became aware they were doing a bathroom renovation, with the plumber coming and going (with his own key), total lack of privacy.
I decided to drop the case as I couldn't be bothered with the angst, but I feel I opened up a crack. Not really happy with this and as someone said we are looking after peoples animals and houses, its a big responsibility. Surely some protection and rights would be appropriate.
Thanks for your time.
I did sitters for five months without problems. Every house I was received with care and happiness. I was always trusted with my approval applications. Congrats and thanks a lot.
Both parties score, as they are each providing a benefit to the others need. It is amazing to choose several destinations around the world, and get to experience life as a local, caring for their home and pets, what a great concept of a global community coming together to swap desires!
I have used this all summer, and have also got a few friends into it as well, which really enhanced our summer experiences.
A great way to enjoy animals while enjoying time on your own
I have referred a few other people to Trusted Housesitters.
I have done a few house/pet sits through Trusted HouseSitters. The postings from home/pet owners are accurate and their pets and homes have been wonderful. Taking care of a pet (or pets) in another city is a great way to get to know the area. While taking care of other peoples' pets does take a bit of time, there is still plenty of time to explore the area, and visit with friends and family -- whatever the purpose of your trip.
The website for Trusted HouseSitters could be more efficient. When navigating through to look at available housesits, I find that I sometimes have to start my search over in order to get back to where I left off moments earlier.
TrustedHousesitters is the very definition of a win/win situation. Combine your love of travel and love of animals while providing a valuable service. Experience life-changing adventures while you're at it!
I think travel is all about having new and authentic experiences. Trusted Housesitter allows you to choose the destinations, homes and animals you want to experience, providing a snapshot of what it would be like to live there.
When I joined Trusted house sitters, it was simply for my love of dogs, walking and travelling.
But it has become much more. I have been welcomed into homes of like minded people, who were total strangers but had trust in me to take care of their beloved pets and homes. I definitely feel a sense of community and recommend you to give it a try.
We've used Trusted Housesitters numerous times to find housesits around the world. The website is easy to use and customer service is always helpful.
I just completed my first house/pet sit and it was perfect! Beautiful people, home and pets. I am so excited about my future adventures with Trusted House Sitters!
I am a big fan of the sharing economy (airbnb, hipcamp, lyft, etc) and TrustedHouseSitters is the newest site I've gotten to know. Just finished my first house sit and it went very smoothly. As long as there is transparency and people do their due diligence, there is every reason to enjoy the experience.
I have done three house-sits from this site, two in Perth and one in Tassie and all have been excellent, both the pets and the pet owners. Good pets to look after and nice thoughtful pet owners whom I felt really appreciated me.
A new world of opportunity has opened up to me meeting wonderful people and their animals of all persuasion on a simple and effective system.
I love the opportunity to enjoy living somewhere different and new and taking care and loving someone else's pets.
Met some great people and housesat for animals lovers while seeing different parts of the UK!
The comm was quick and simple, the interface clear and very easy to apply for sits
I just completed my 5th sit and everything went really well this time too. The people I meet are friendly, they live in beautiful houses and neighbourhood and help you in any way to spend a great time while sitting for their pets. I love this way of travelling!
Being able to combine the love of travel with the love of animals.
I have just completed my first (hopefully, of many) house sits and had an amazing time.
I would highly recommend hiuse sitting to everyone
Sarah and Mike welcomed us with scones and coffee. Rufus welcomed us with licks. A comfy and feel at home place. We have similar tastes in several things. Rufus is a delight to walk, play with and cuddle. He loved to watch tv with us too. Would definitely go back if able to.
I just completed my first sit. Everything went smoothly and it was a success. The website is very easy to use, and provides information organized in an intuitive way. It was easy to learn what I needed to do a good job. I hope to do more sits, and will continue to use TrustedHouseSitters to do it.
Mandy and Tony made me very welcome and met me at the station and took me shopping before they left. Bramble Barnaby (dogs) Tilly and Oslo (cats) were no trouble Once they accepted you and loved cuddles and strokes. Barnaby was a delight to take for a walk as he would chase a ball forever. I would willing sit for them again. New Milton is only a small place but has several supermarkets. There is a local Nisa which stocks most things you will need.
Answer: Fees are an annual membership for both homeowner and pet sitters (approx $120). With thousands of members, I've not had any problem finding a sitter.
Answer: Hi Jim, when house sitting it is expected that you will take care of your own cooking, etc. You will have full use of the homeowners kitchen facilities. We hope this helps. TrustedTeam
Answer: Yes. It depends on where you live but this couple is beyond question the best and dependable and honest. Debbie and Wil Wilburn. [email protected] Please give my name: Fluffy's mom
Answer: Your accommodations are free. You still have to get there on your own. Since accommodations are often the biggest expense of a trip, it is a great deal. Use code RAF270183 to get 25% off you annual membership fee.

Answer: Hi Sada, You'll be able to read reviews of the sitters on their profiles. If there isn't anything showing, then this indicates that the sitter doesn't have any reviews just yet. If there is something else that we can do to help, please do get in touch with Membership Services, and we'll be more than happy to speak with you further. Kind regards, The TrustedHousesitters Team

Hello Lone,
I completely understand how upsetting it must have been to have a personal item damaged during a sit. Therefore upon reading this review, I was keen to look into all of your correspondence with us regarding this.
I can see that we are still in the process of assisting you with this in line with our Members Dispute Procedure. Whilst we hope that all members can resolve any issues amicably between themselves, we are always on hand to assist and help mediate to a suitable resolution for both members. We are in the process of investigating this for you now.
I was concerned to read in your review that you feel that we treat damage to owners personal belongings differently, to that of a sitters. I can personally assure you that this is simply not the case and can see that in your communications with us that we have explained the process that applies to all members.
The privacy and security of sitters within the community is very important to us and we have a clear no third party policy during the sit. This applies to preplanned building work unless this has been mutually agreed by both members before the sit has been officially confirmed. As you are aware this is also part of our ongoing investigation. Should you arrive at a sit and the owner informs you that there will be a third party present during the sit, please do let the owner know if this is something that you are not comfortable with and contact us so we can assist you with this before the start of the sit.
We are constantly working with our members to help make sure that all the required information regarding the pet and sit is up to date and appears on the owners listing and welcome guide. Unfortunately, there could be times where unforeseen things happen. In these circumstances please do speak to the owners who can often resolve this issue for you. We are then more than happy to support both members in reaching an amicable resolution.
Should you wish for us to stop the investigation then please do let us know by replying to the email thread with your investigating agent, whom will be able to talk you through this process.
We look forward to hearing from you so that we can assist you further.
Thank you
Carla
