I was looking to update my resume and found the free resume review with Top Resume. I've been in the workforce for over 20 years and was targeting a senior level position and wanted to upgrade my resume. The review feedback said my resume scored poorly with the automatic scan many companies are using that would limit it getting to an actual person to review. I paid for the service and my first draft seemed like the person was forcing in big words that didn't make sense in the context of the sentence. I requested a new resume writer be assigned and they did. The 2nd person was a little better and completed the resume. To test the results, I changed my name, email, and company names and resubmitted for the free evaluation. Their resume scored as low as my original and the review was very critical. Attached are the reviews from both versions that didn't rate high in their system. Regardless of the final results, I signed up for the service based on their assessment, which seems to be the same negative points regardless of who wrote it. Also, you are supposed to be paired with someone who knows your industry. Some of the corrections I had to make clearly showed they didn't know my industry and/or just weren't good at writing resumes. For these reasons I rate this low and advise people to stay away.

Overall my experience with Top Resume was alright. My resume writer was friendly and accomodating, it took several revisions including a few errors where the update draft feedback was misinterpreted or overlooked, and the first revision came back after 3 business days leaving just 1 day in the 7 day due date, yet they accommodated that and eventually corrected the items needing correction. My main feedback to the company is for the price, I was told the resume style needed to be very plain to get through ATS applicant tracking systems, yet I believe for the price paid it should include an additional more graphic oriented resume as another option the owner can present as needed.

I signed up for the "Executive Priority Resume Writing Package" package, $379 CAD, and received my first draft four days later. The first draft was so far below any acceptable quality that I asked for a refund. My request was denied. Support said, "As our sales are final upon purchase, we will gladly partner with you to finalize the documents to your satisfaction.". The resume provided was very boilerplate and had several grammatical errors. I have 20+ years of experience in my field, and the resume produced made it seem like I was applying for an entry-level position.

The initial email I received from the writer included template tags that weren't populated by an automated system.

I received all the correspondence between 1 and 2am local time, so I assume the writer isn't located in North America.

These people are not qualified. I did 98% of the work and the edits myself. They don't understand simple grammar and punctuation. I had spacing and formatting issues. I would constantly send them exactly how it should read and they would be so confused about what changes to make. Changes take days in between responses and then you run out of time and have to take what they give you. Terrible customer service I was very unhappy with this service.

I recently paid them to write resume and cover letter. The outcome totally disappointed me. Obviously the writer have no knowledge about graphic design. She mess up what I did in my job, misunderstood my job's responsibility. I need to spend lots of time to point out each problems on resume and cover letter; some sentences are not making sense. Therefore I need to spend time to explain and work with her for each draft. Also, I found the TYPO on the resume which is so UNPROFESSIONAL.
