The company has garnered a mixed reputation among customers, with notable strengths in its engaging auction format and a diverse range of products that some users find enjoyable and affordable. Many appreciate the responsive customer service, which has been effective in addressing issues and facilitating refunds. However, significant concerns persist regarding product quality, with numerous complaints about receiving damaged or inferior items. Additionally, customers have reported frustrations with order cancellations and difficulties in the returns process. Overall, while the platform offers a fun shopping experience, it must improve product reliability and support to enhance customer satisfaction.

FYI, from my experience, items that are this cheap (sometimes made well, other times not) originate directly from China. I have gotten some excellent bargains but you MUST understand, it can take as long as 2 months for a product to reach America. Remember there are different weather seasons (Harsh weather), travel conditions, transportation problems etc not all modern, and other reasons for slowness of products. I do think China needs to work to resolve that issue, but I have had vendors who apparently know how to work the system and get their products to you faster. As to something being gold or silver - buyer beware. Generally they mean TONE as in color. The product can still be beautiful, just made of a material that might not be acceptable in America (I hear stories about their metals). The Ecology Center ran tests on 99 pieces of jewelry (some of which was geared toward children but most of it was for adults) that were purchased from 14 different discount stores such from around the country, like Target, Claire's, Glitter, Forever 21, Walmart, H&M, and Hot Topic. They checked each piece for dangerous things like lead, cadmium, chromium, nickel, brominated flame $#*!ants, chlorine, mercury and arsenic. And, surprise, surprise, lots of the jewelry was full of nasty stuff. As long as you aren't letting a child or animal gnaw on it, it's ok for occasional wearing. I have lots of gorgeous cheap jewelry from China (we get most of our wares from China, even if you are a designer fan). FYI only.
Everything I've ordered with the exception of one item was not as appeared or described... items are cheaply made and spray painted when described as gold/silver plated. I've yet to receive a refund on a returned item nearly three weeks ago. I've had to dispute claims... thank god for American Express.
Loved my nana ring so glad i found this site will continue to purchase so helpful and easy thank you
Most of the items come from China. Takes weeks to get to you. No way to see where item originates from til after it is shipped, no way to see specific seller ratings. Got a pair of earrings that were PLASTIC!
My wife looked at three items. Next thing we know, all three items were charged to us. Stay away from this website.
I don't understand all the bad reviews, I have recently just started using this site and purchased some nice jewelry on here and received every one so far. Some things take awhile as it is shipped from China but overall I'm very satisfied.
Thought it was fun until I ordered from a couple horrible sellers. They immediately "create" a shipping label but never send item. Have rcvd 2 refunds for non-shipment and have a dispute in with Paypal now for an item that I paid for on 9/2 and never received. If you use this site make sure you pay with Paypal so you are protected.
I have bought at least 12-15 items. They are as beautiful as I hoped they would be. Come on, I don't think everyone has the finances to want to afford the real stuff.
I purchased a green Dell laptop for my son, mainly because his favorite color is green. I received a black laptop thrown in a prioroty box with generic cords. The computer was covered in adhesive. I attempted to request a refund. Seller does not give refunds, therefore I cannot request. I went through the Tophatter customer service to report the item and went on to explain that it was grossly misrepresented. I was sent an automatically generated response telling me to wait 48 hours. That was a week ago. I have since contacted them three times regarding this topic. No response. I also had bid on a bracelet. I won the bid. I received an invoice for a ring. I have sent four messages to try and resolve this matter. I was of course was unable to bid on another item until the "ring" was paid for. That was actually a blessing in disguise. I simply looked on Tophatter to see if there was anything that I was interested in. I wrote down the items and their cost. I then checked ebay, Google and Amazon. Found the $16 dollar earring on EBay for 2.00 with free shipping. Will be contacting attorney to see what can be done about this situation. Ebay was never known for good customer service, but at least purchases are backed and protected. 15 years on eBay and I have only had to contact them 2 times. I guess I will stick to Ebay and Amazon. Oh, as for fragrances, which seem to be the only actual deals on Tophatter, try fragrancenet. Killer prices on designer fragrances. All Tophatter users, proceed with caution and good luck.
I have only ordered from here twice but I received both of my items within a week and both were as expected. The first item I ordered was an Android watch that I got for $15 but with the $5 towards your first order I only paid $10. Works great and looks great. Then I ordered a color changed light bulb with a remote that I got for $7 and that works great as well. I will continue to use the site unless I encounter an issue like some of the reviews I've read and I then will update here. I think a lot of the negative reviews are just because people don't read what they are actually buying.
I ordered a cushion-cut aquamarine ring. It took only 5 days to receive and it is beautiful! Sure, it is gold-plated 3X but what do you expect for the price! Only time will tell if the plating will last. A bit big, but I'm wearing it on my index finger and it fits OK there (my fault when ordering.) I ordered this ring before I read these scary reviews but everything turned out alright for me! Will consider bidding again!
I ordered an Android Watch, and never received it. Customer service said I could get a refund only if I returned the item... which I can't because I NEVER RECEIVED IT! The tracking number provided resolves to "No Item Found With That Tracking Number."
I have no recourse. Do not buy from Tophatter... you may or may not get what you paid for or get anything at all.
BUYER BEWARE! This company rips you off. Their merchandise is made to look way different on line then what you get. I bought a ring and could not get a refund or instructions to return it. Plus shipping to China is outrageous. Do not order from this company!
Rip off! Steal your money! Give you what you DID NOT ORDER! NOT RETURNING INFORMATION! IGNORE YOUR COMMENTS! HORRIBLE COMPANY. THIEVES! EVERYONE REPORT THESE shysters to the better business Bureau!
I bid on a smart watch and paid immediately. Bad new is. I never received the watch. To make matters worse, in spite of more emails than I can count, I never received even one reply from customer service. There was no way I could trace my order as it was marked "Untraceable". I would definitely never bid or order from them again.
I have bought probably a dozen rings via bidding, out of those maybe one was really cheap and dime store looking, while the rest I wear and am proud to wear. In fact I get lots of compliments on my rings and people ask me where I got them. Some of them took some time to get to me while others arrived in 3 to 5 days. Regardless, if you read the descriptions the majority of the items are plated, not solid. It's a great costume jewelry site. If you're looking for "Jared's" jewelry you're not going to get it with starting bids at $1 use your heads.
STUPID ME, SAW THE SIGHT AND JUST STARTED BIDDING, THE STUFF SENT WAS DOLLAR STORE ITEMS. TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED, FEELING FOOLISH FOR WASTING MY MONEY.
I ordered more than 30 items... dumb, dumb. Most items are cheap knock-offs from China; many did not work, fell apart, not even close as described... Forget trying to get items returned and refunds. Most of time (95%), just does not happen. Communication takes so long, time runs out; then receive messages such as: did not respond in time, seller does not take return (even when they do not work)! Scam.
This site is addicting with the live auctions but beware because the listed retail price is way higher then it is on other sites plus shipping is always high. You might pay a dollar for the product but you will be charged up to 12 dollars for shipping. A lot of chinese sellers on here that list elsewhere too, so if you don. T know what a reasonable price is then google it. You will see the same item/items on both Amazon and Ebay for not only cheaper but free shipping as well. For instance I won a little pony nite light for 6 dollars and 5 dollars to ship. Eleven dollars total but ebay sells them for 1.36 with free shipping, The packaging is done poorly resulting in damage to outer box. Also most products are poor quality especially the rings
Answer: There is also the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION that can help with these types of problems
Answer: You have to read the descriptions. It will tell you if it's real or plated.
Answer: Do not deal with this company,,, all jewelery is crap n cheap
Answer: Tophatter will screw you over. Shop Amazon or overstock.
Answer: Good luck! Tophatter rippes off the sellers so they are not going to be very likely to return your money.
Answer: Justin you are absolutely correct. I find out the hard way. I had my own auction with nice AUTHENTIC designer items and cosmetics (Becca, Cargo, Smahbox, Too Faced, etc). I lost big time. $40 Cargo palette sold for $10; it cost me $15. Items that I started higher to cover my cost never sold. I still had to pay fees for the item being listed. A $200 Calvin Klein purse sold for $20; it cost me $80 wholesale. Run!
Answer: If you end up buying a few items from the same seller they can do a combined shipment but you rarely get the same buyer items since they only let the sellers sell 10 items a day. It is different for the sellers that have their own auctions.
Answer: You will notice the same names no matter the day, time etc. Bidding against you very often. Is it a coincidence? Personally I don't believe in coincidences.
Answer: Depends on what you are selling. Yes, a lot of items go unsold in the jewelry and accessories categories... as well as others. Coach and Michael Kors and other designer brands, not much goes unsold, because here's the catch - - you pay fees on the starting bid. TH wants everything to start at $1. So you get punished if you start higher as to not get screwed by a low purchase price. Say you buy a designer bag for $120. If you start that bag at $100, you're already paying over $10 in fees. **IF** you can manage to sell it for a profit, there are still the commission and bank fees. If you start it at $1, you're barely paying any listing fees but it might only sell for $80 (or less!). So, less fees, but you lost your ass on the item. It's messed up. Most sellers have put in their time to see if they can make a profit or to see if TH will change, but they all seem to end up leaving. I'm convinced the only ones who stay to sell there are the counterfeit or crappy quality sellers who are buying items for next to nothing, because that seems to be the only way to make a profit there these days. I would go the ebay route if you're looking to sell.
Answer: Yes! Sale of counterfeit items is prohibited. If you are concerned about the authenticity of an item purchased on the platform, you may return it for up to 30 days from delivery. See full details on our return policy here: http://tinyurl.com/h7xokwj.
