I will never use Thumbtack for anything ever again and I hope none of its current users have to go through what we did. I assumed that Thumbtack. Com only posted reputable contractors so I hired one ( TnJ Home Improvements -JACOB L. DOSHER) that had glowing references posted by Thumbtack to do some miscellaneous home jobs. I later found out that not only was the supposed "contractor" not reputable, he did not have a contractors license and he also had a criminal record. When I complained to the Thumbtack Customer Service Department, they actually protected the Company rather than myself and refused to release his address to me after he completely abandoned the job at our home. We currently have filed a case against this company with Magistrates court, LLR Board of Residential Contractors and and are in the process of filing a fraud case. This company was complete fraud and the owner was a conn man. I don't wish this experience on anyone. If Thumbtack had any accountability in checking the contractors that they post, this entire scenario could have been prevented. I have also since found out that JACOB L DOSHER has been all over South Carolina & North Carolina with his scams. Currently he is around the gulf coast of Florida area, near St Petersburg. I hope this information will help someone else.

Again they raise there quote prices on the contractor. I now pay 6 credits for a 499 sq. Ft job, if I'm lucky enough to get it in 1out of 10 tries. I'm also now paying 6 credits foe painting a nook above a stair case which is about 20 sq. Ft. Where does this even sound fair to me. I call and have complained for a out 3 years and even though I'm told tO'Day for the first time ever they call their professionals back for feed back but funny. I have always been told they don't. Well if they do, where's this top rated painting contractors call back... it's a line of BULL $#*!... They have people come up with prices per job scope who have probably never even had a paint brush in their hand or can't picture the normal size sq. Footage of a nooke above a staircase to know it's only really worth about a half (. 5) credit. They say it's still cheap but only one guy gets a job out of 5 so when 5 guys spend $18 00 or so on on bigger job, they make $90 00 while the 4 contractors have to go spend more money to not get more work.
I'm copying my Web page their and getting my own and will never spend another dime on a company that doesn't have the decency to call a top rated contractor up with as many amazing and awesome reviews as me. My advice to all you other contractors stop making these guys millionaires why you make pennies. Blow these guys off and do your own marketing like I'm going to do. Thumbtack. Com has turned into nothing more than another home advisor, another company just trying to make millions and rip you off... Thanks for getting back to me Thumbtack you show just how much you don't care about the contractors if you care only about yourselves...

I requested someone to mow and edge my small front yard. Called and they said they would be there the next morning. Sorry, but all of the guys were sick that day. So, I hired another one who's website looked good. I got a quote from him and he came out to look at the yard. We agreed on a price and he came out late in the afternoon the next day. He made a huge mess and said he would be back the next day to finish. He didn't show up, so I called and told him to bring my check back and I'd pay him cash for what he did. He cashed my check and refunded me $40. He charged me $110 to mow a very small garden home yard and put some clay type dirt in a few spots. He ripped me off and will do the same to anyone. I contacted Thumbtack and they have not responded. Don't hire Rudy Zepeda!
It took me 42 tries to get one job on Thumbtack. The system doesn't allow you to weed out people that are just fishing for a price. Too many leads with no phone number available. Gigmasters requires a phone number and so does Eventective. I did everything asked. Been verified, submitted reviews, pictures and videos of the band. Website links. It doesn't make sense to put any more money into this site. When my credits run out so do I.
Isaiah was a complete joke. If you like talking to people at call centers that can not help you, sign up for thumbtack.
Got text notification at 9:49 am
By 9:51 am potential client received 5 quotes.
That is impossible. The THUMBTACK system of submitting takes longer than 2 minutes to complete.
I have spent a lot of $$$ on quotes and if the customer views it but does not hire you, you are on the hook 8-10 DOLLARS FOR EACH BID. Do not start a profile on Thumbtack. I do not believe the leads are real! I believe this is a scam company set out to get hard-earned $$$ from small business. DO NOT GO HERE AND OPEN A PROFILE! DO YOUR OWN MARKETING, THUMBTACK IS USELESS
THUMBTACK IS GETTING GREEDY, THEY JUST RAISED THE PRICE THAT SERVICE PROVIDERS MUST TO PAY TO PROVIDE A BID. AS IF THEIR NOT MAKING MILLIONS ALREADY, BUT THAT IS NOT ENOUGH. NOW THEY WANT TO SQUEEZE MORE FROM THE STARVING VENDORS. GREED! GREED! MORE! MORE!.
We hired Isaac stockdale to lay some wood flooring and put title in our guest bathroom. We had a very horrible experience! First of all our flooring is not complete and our title he put over the tub, is sunk in. In many places. He would show up for work between 11-12pm, take a lunch, and then leave at 4-4:30. Had an excuse when he came. His work is very unprofessional. We had to pay someone else to fix the mess he did. Very disappointed with his work. Please stay away from this guy, he don't know what he's doing.
My husband and I have been on Thumbtack for over 2 years together and we have two small businesses. We use Thumbtack to get lots of leads for our services. We had a VERY irate client who decided to reign down 3-5 falsified reviews -- literally 3 came in to a service that didn't involve them within a 12 hour period. The thing is that I haven't even worked in that service in about a year, and all these reviews were "off site reviews" -- meaning they looked, breathed and WERE falsified. On the service that this client actually used from us, they posted some GOD AWFUL things -- called us garbage, drug dealers, felons... WOW. Yelp even took that review down immediately, and Yelp can be pretty tough on reviews. Thumbtack, however, decided to "believe in" the falsified review and DEMAND that I have a background check to continue services. I am a principled person and I said no. I also work for a company (this can be proven on their website) that background checks all workers. I'm done! I asked if my husband could continue providing services and not me, I have no problem with that. Nope! They wanted both of us to succumb to bowing down in front of those that would lie about us. On top of all this, two people ended up emailing me back and forth. One was like, "Oh, it's okay, your husband can just do it" and the other was like "No, you both have to." SO WHO DO I BELIEVE. I am irate and I will be reporting them to the BBB for some form of discrimination or whatever this is!
I joined tt about a year ago with high hopes of making new business connections. What I found was about %2 return in my $ investment. This site is great for consumers. However they knowingly represent customers and ignore input from service providers. Half of thier "requests" are fake. Out of a few hundred dollars I bought in points I may have broke even. I almost never get even a call back for more info on requests. Let alone a chance to work for customers. It's a great Racket for the owners of this company to prey on honest small business owners
I found a good company to fix my fence and honest man to run this company. Mr. Villano fixed my fence while I was not able to be home and I said to him on the phone. Well what about giving you a check. He said. Don't worry about it, if you like the work send me a check.the price was decided on the phone the day before and it was a very good and honest quote. Needless to say the work was right and I mailed the check.
I decided to use Thumbtack again after deleting my profile because it's a challenge to get customers and I thought I would give them another chance. When I used Thumbtack a couple of years ago, you use to be able to earn free credits and if a lead requested you personally, you didn't have to pay for the lead with your credits. Well, all of those perks have changed and honestly, it's making using this site less and less attractive. In addition, I think if people are just looking for the 'cheapest' service then they deserve to get cheap instead of high quality. I keep seeing statements that the leads are not even real? Considering that no one is responding to my bids and I'm a high quality business, then I know something is wrong. I'm going to use my remaining credits then leave again. So sad. That's my feelings. ---update... just got a lead in my box, attempted to answer the lead immediately and Thumbtack said lead already had 5 quotes... 5 quotes? I just got the email! See what I mean. Crazy.
ISC Roofing completed my home roofing in two days, and at a very competitive price.
I would recommend Paul Harvey's company to anyone needing a new roof or roof repair.
I've used thumbtack for several years, in the beginning, leads were affordable, and based on the type of photography the client was looking for. Over the years, thumbtack has changed their pricing structure, sometimes multiple times in a 6 month period. You also used to be able to submit a question to the potential client for further clarification before placing a bid. This was a great feature to weed out people just fishing. It's now extremely expensive to purchase leads (7 credits at $1.66 each) for a wedding no matter the budget ($400 through to $3000). And there is no way to clarify or ask for more verifications before purchasing the lead. I've also found that leads come in quite heavily during the day during the week, and it's rather quiet on the week-ends. However, the week-end clients are much more responsive than the week day ones. If thumbtack could be more aggressive with the potential clients to filter out the 'tire kickers' it would be a great service. As it stands - us pros are the ones paying Thumbtack to stay in business. I feel like we are the real client and the system is definitely not set up in our favor.
Hired Travis to grind down our tree stump and hedges done very quickly and no roots remaining. Awesome job. Great price!
I contacted pastor Bob Thurman via thumb tack over 2 weeks ago, to perform a quick, simple wedding ceremony at our home in Burlington NC. I told him we wanted to get married at 0700 hrs, a sunrise wedding. This gentleman was at our home at 10 til 7:00, ready to go, and it was 13 degrees! Lol! He brought 2 wedding vow types, which really impressed us both. He drove approx 1 1/2 hrs one way to perform our service! We very highly recommend Bob to anyone else that might need his services!
1% of Thumbtack leads are real, probably the one who the number of client is available all the other are fake, actually if you read the good reviews below, they are the same name you find on the leads (Jacqueline b, Michelle H, Elizabeth G, Rachel M etc.) I receive Jacqueline B lead probably 3-4 times from different location! Anyway I send 35 quote with no response at all, never! Don't waste your money, Thumbtack make money on you but you will get nothing not even one lead book, only if the client is real but they are rare!
It really is annoying and irritating when you think WOW, these A-holes waited to get some money then stopped sending potential client emails... i gave them 30 bucks, now I know they are a scam... NOT ONE response from any potential client... Is this what the internet is now, a bunch of scams hiding behind the curtain of the virtual world...
We need to get back to the way we used to do business, over the phone, face to face, and just more honest. But then I remember that its human nature to lie, steal, and cheat... especially in the world of business...
Good luck everyone, its ok to test things out but once you know its BS, GET OUT!
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
