I couldn't believe how quick and professional Brad's team was. They were clean, polite, and hard working. The quartz counter tops and back splashes were precision cut by master artist Edwin and beyond awesome. I had them put in a washer dryer unit, a new dishwasher, stove and hood. Everything worked perfectly! And the cabinets are beautiful. When I tell my friends I have a washer and dryer in my tiny kitchen they say where? They are beautifully hidden by lovely cabinet doors that match the others. It's a dream kitchen now and the best in my townhouse complex! So happy!
Thumbtack is a joke. Founded and managed by a bunch of inexperienced, clueless 27 year olds who genuinely think they are doing good in the world. Phony leads, inconsistent customer service responses, no business experience and somehow they were able to obtain VC funding. Because of their complete lack of experience, they have no idea how most businesses are run. No clue about the differences between labor and professional services, real budget requirements, professional licensing, etc. As far as the 'positive' reviews, they have nothing to do with TT. TT has nothing to do with the success of any provider. They are only a clearinghouse. You have just as much of a chance to find quality service providers by asking friends, colleagues, church members, etc. TT profits under false pretenses. They take their fee upfront, regardless of whether business is transacted or not... Isn't that pretty much what a pimp does?
I have been with Thumbtack since the end of 2013. I have had multiple issues with this company since they had no idea how to handle entertainers vs plumbers etc. Many hours on the phone explaining to them what was needed to help the client (me) to make them money and therefore to make me money. Things have shifted and now to the detriment of me. Apparently they have now decided to charge randomly whatever they want vs the 2 credits that they had before. Most importantly they didn't inform me of this and had no idea that this was going on for at least the last couple of months. I find this to be very scammy as they will make their money back no matter what, despite how they claimed to want the professional to succeed. I'm very upset and will not be working with them again.
I signed on with thumbtack in 2013 or 14. I worked hard at building a 5 star top pro status. I had a customer back out of a contract in which I took a $600 deposit.
I purchased hardware that took some time to arrive. After time the client said they did not want to follow through with the project. They wanted their deposit back. Contract states not responsible for special orders not arriving on time and deposits will not be refunded after 72 hours.
The client went to Thumbtack and they try to act as Judge and Jury. I sent copies of all paperwork and called it a day. Well they kindly suspended my account.
After all that time and money I spent, they stuck their noses in a matter that was for a local judge to decide not a Thumbtack employee. The client had no chance in court so they pleaded with Thumbtack. Well my reputation as usual still stands strong and I warn any contractor to stay away from Thumbtack because you will get stuck!
Also what are the chances of everyone requesting kitchens in one day then decks the next, basements the following day? I would guess 75-90 percent of the leads are bogus. Your time is worth much more!
Thank you,

So here's how it goes. I bought credits to give Thumbtack a try for creating resumes for people. It cost $30.00 to bid on 10 jobs and get one (Each bid cost 1 or 2 credits). So at my rate, that means I walked away with $55,00, Not bad, so I bought more credits and started looking for more requests to bid on. Low an behold, the price to bid doubled to 4 credits... overnight. That means instead of making $55, I make $25 and Thumbtack makes $60. Bottom line, Thumbtack is a great deal... for the people at Thumbtack.
Had my kitchen back slash and floors tiled in renovation by Bruce Bissette@ http :// tack bz/2q31t. Beautiful job, efficient and fast. Top quality work.
Wow what a wonderful job, complete, clean up was unbelievable, I would never hesitate to recommend this service. C E A Landscaping in Tucson, AZ.
Mike & Heather have painted our master bedroom & bath and living room. Mike also changed out all electrical outlets and switches to better match the new color. He has also replaced a closet door and stained it to match the existing trim. All work has been outstanding and they are very prompt. The work prices are quite reasonable.
I've been fortunate enough to get to eat some of the delectable foods made by this catering company. So fresh, and the blend of tastes is exquisite! Desserts such as Fresh Fruit Muddle, Banana upside-down cake, Chocolate Crème pies in chocolate almond crusts... Fresh crème almandine and pistachio filed croissants... and not just desserts! There was Creamy Cauliflower soup with celery root, Beet deviled eggs, Herbed goat cheese stuffed peppers, Sweet goat cheese sweet potato canapés with candied pecans and cranberry chutney and balsamic glaze, homemade chicken pot pies, Braised short ribs... These people know how to blend their herbs with their foods. I wish they could cook for me every day of the week!
I replied an article offering rates 4 RI's top 10 dog trainers. I was given a "dog trainer" with at least 30 arrests/charges in 2015 including 20 counts of ANIMAL CRUELTY. Are you serious? Thumbtack's info on the guy stated years of experience and some kinds of certifications. False. This guys last known residence was a shed in the driveway of his condemned house. He locked dogs inside the house in inches of feces, without water or veterinary care. At the time, he was "boarding"and "training". The man the recommended is Gunnar Carlson. He has run various fundraising scams in RI for donations to provide veterans with PTSD a service dog. What he actually did was adopt dogs identified as too aggressive for adoption, then drove the animals straight to the disabled veterans and dropped the dogs off with promises to turn the animals to trained service companions over 1 1/2 years. He has been blacklisted by New England shelters. He now operates across the CT state line using new various "company" names.
CAN YOU IMAGINE THE POTENTIAL DAMAGE TO CLIENTS, THEIR CHILDREN AND THE POOR DOGS? He tells people he specializes in aggressive dogs. His experience is essentially the last 8-9 years since he adopted his first dog. Hell, with that criteria, I must be a master! We had a dog in the house when I was born. I must have 52 years of dog freaking training experience!
I just listed my business on this site and next I had customers coming in I tried Angie list but it takes seversl days just to figure out how to sign up oh best part no hidden fees and pick your own budget
On a scale of 1-10. I give Mr. Zoerner a 10 +! His work is amazing an pricing more than fair. I had a 7× 13bathroom. Closets on both ends of walls. Took a foot off each closet, allowing more space to install a stand up shower with garden tub! My wife was very happy! An most of all, met the time frame I needed to have it done in.he even finished a day early.! I would recommend an have to anyone needing custom work or repairs. Thanks Mike!
The electrician was spot on with the work I needed done to get power back to my garage and shop area. This past storm we had messed up the power going from my house out to my shop and I had no power to everything in the garage. I did not know what the problem was but the electrician can out the next day after contacting him and within a couple of hours found and fixed my problem. He fixed the issue and was very professional in his skills. Thank you Thumbtack pros.
Cutting Edge Home Improvement, LLC team has done several jobs for us and we liked their work so much my husband and I kept calling them back to do more! We were very pleased and would recommend this company. With many years of experience, they were very knowledgeable and it showed in their work. From a major job like a deck to smaller jobs, you won't be disappointed.
One day a while back I noticed the company's truck on the road. It said, "we work with your budget". After talking with many companies to remodel our master bathroom over the past few years, I thought, why not call them and check out their work and their price. The others all seemed like good company, but the price was significantly more than the value their work would add to our home. After talking with the owners of RDA I was pleasantly surprise. Not only did their quote beat the others by a large margin, working with them was more than a pleasure. They're friendly, responsive, easy to work with and most of all, very honest. The best part was their work. All they did for us was top notch, excellent quality and very professional. They kept our home clean and straight as they did the work. Will I use them again, absolutely!
My kitchen was renovated by Tony Bryant Sr. He was very professional. He was on time daily. He was respectful of me and my home. I will definitely call on his services again and I will refer him to others.

I was a thumbtack pro and had over 25 5 star reviews and not a smidgeon less. They deleted my account because of an altercation I got into with my brother in law over 10 years ago. They never sent me my money back of all the credits I had on their site. Plus, they always fabricate ways to charge people more credits than they should. One day it's 4 credits, 2 credits the next time. And they partner with low ball competitors that use up all your credits in order for you to buy more. Stay away!
We love JaniKnights! They do excellent work, are on time, have a multitude of options. Damon and his crew are top notch!
We hired a contractor from thumbtack and everything started off great. Then the work slowed down and suddenly our contractor just did not show up. No contact with him as we called several times. Learned he had been picked up on outstanding warrant and jumping bail. His name was Ryan Utias.
Hired our second contractor from Home Depot. Much happier. We learned Ryan had scratched our new tub and installed the new tub fixtures wrong. All the texture work on the walls needed to be redone.
Do not go near thumbtack as there is no way they do background checks on their contractors and no vetting of ability.
If I could rate then negatively I would give them a -10
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
