To many people just wanting prices and have no intention of building. At $50,00 plus per lead plus time and money spent driving to meet people that don't know what they need. Also as a Pro you are NOT supposed to be charged for leads when your calendar is blocked! Guess what not so, then this company hides behind do no reply e mails instead of answering phone calls. Save time and money, go to Home Adviser or some other reputable business.
I had hire Luis Orellana Investigations, and the guy turned out to be a lazy, lying, deadbeat, who not only ripped me off but also did not pay me back after I was awarded a full refund.
I paid $15.74 for responding two leads that didn't book my service. I had to call the bank to get my money back. They said: " if the the costumer's first response is Yes, it's free to reply. If they say anything else, it costs money. $#*!ing scam. This company should die.
I have used Thumbtack for years but the last 12 months things have changed for the worst. I have evidence that they are selling fake leads and charging Contractors for services they do not provide.
This country is so far from its core values its ridiculous. They are all 2 busy chasing money to help 2 senior ladies that only need them once in awhile.
No matter how much we paid we never got the first customer. Just go with the free option and hope for the best. The paid option does not give actually work. They want you to tell what kind of jobs you would accept and they charge you to send customers to you. We NEVER heard back from any of them so we just send out quotes if someone is interested now. Never got a customer from them even once.
I have paid more than $200 and I have had not a single customer. I tried them, and I decided to go on my old fashioned way. It's better and I'm not wasting my time and money.
Unless you're very CHEAP. You can get some clients. But then my customer retention is high and I care about my client.
I rolled the dice and lost. This app is a rip off. I am a photographer thinking this might help but it's all people looking for the lowest price. The leads are garbage. Then after $6-$12 leads i get charged $62 for a lead the people disappeared.
I am a professional business owner that used thumbtack. Not only are the leads expensive, but you are unlikely to get the jobs that people message you for. On top of that, the customer service from the thumbtack team is horrible and gives them a bad reputation. I will not be using thumbtack ever again because of it.
Thumbtack is a unethical company, who is not out to help the contractor or the customer, the company wants to take your money and never give it back, makes you jump through hoops for a few dollars they will credit back to your account, thumbtack account that is never your bank account. The customer service is terrible, and rude.
Very disappointed that this service cant give me any information on why I violated terms on an account I have never had.
Their reply:
I do understand that you wanted to know more about the account that is linked to yours, we didn't take this action lightly, and I understand that you aren't happy with the decision. But due to the association we uncovered, your account will remain closed.
Until we can address and resolve the concerns, neither account standing can be reconsidered. You're welcome to have the owner of the account with the business name of xxxxc reach out to us to understand their next steps.
But they wont tell me anything. So beware. If you want to open an account to grow your business but some other hacker has used your name or something to rip someone off you may never clear your name.
Adam Gray did a complete renovation of our home in Madison Park, Charlotte, NC. From the time of our first meeting until the work was completed, Adam continued to have our interest and desires for the home foremost on his list. His "can-do" attitude and professionalism was welcomed during each conversation. His work, skill level, and creativeness was a very welcomed commodity. He took a 60 year old home and made it a showcase. No one will ever go wrong by letting Adam and his team do the same to your property. Personally, I will promote his work to all that I know and more. Adam will not be satisfied with his work until it reaches perfection. Don't hesitate to contact him. You will not be sorry.
Do not use this service! They are not reliable and do NOT screen their contractors. We spent over $1K to have a shower kit installed. It was done incorrectly and we now have to take it out and fix it. He did not follow instructions that were provided for back wall support and used liquid nails and sheet-rocked over the flange. We have not been able to reach him and we cannot even install our new shower door because he did not square and true the wall. Measurements are 55 inches at bottom and 56 at the top. The name of the contractor is Oliver Construction. I am disappointed that Thumbtack did not screen this unbonded and unlicensed contractor.
I recently had an event and was recommended to use Marcia Dawn Interior Design, The service she provided was mind blowing, the moment she walked in the door from planning, the layout, color scheme and decor used was to perfection. Marcia made my event one to remember my guest was in total shock up on there arrival. I will be recommend Marcia to plan your next event you won't be disappointed she's what you need for any event your plan.
I have used thumbtack as a pro for two different home improvement companies i manage.
I have a good reputation and get plenty of jobs on other jobs websites but thumbtack is run by people who dont know how to generate leads. In fact they suck at it. Much of their revenue is made from reselling leads. No joke. Thumbtack buys a lead on facebook, then presents that lead on their news feed showing that the lead has contacted multiple contractors, often 3 or 4 at once which seems hard to believe. Multiple contractors will pay just to have a conversation with that one lead and try to win their business. I suspect many of the leads are fake, as I have offered them insanely cheap rates and not even got responses.
They allow you to take down your profile and remove it from the internet which is fair and why I respect Thumbtack.
It seems these days tech companies have low morals. What happened to the moral high ground we used to walk in the 80s and 90s. Nowhere to be seen these days as tech companies are blindly data driven and practice "get away with whatever you can" at all times.
That said, I will continue to use their service while hoping they fire the employee in charge of buying facebook ads and get a new guy or gal who can generate more leads for contractors and stop re-selling leads as their main stream of revenue.

Horrible app/site
Horrible app/site. Told I need 3 reviews to get listed, got 4 and still wasnt listed on any of my 3 services even with years of experience, detailed profile, pics and reviews but yet there were people listed with no reviews and unfinished profiles. Was told if i get more reviews and respond quickly I will rank higher. I got the reviews I was told to get and i cant respond when I dont get messages because im not listed! Waste of my time and effort! Glad I wasnt charged anything. I think it's a rip off to be charged to get sent a lead when that person might not even respond to you at all and how many other people are getting sent the same lead
Mr. David Lewis/Electrician, is doing my electrical work on the land we have in Georgia. He did a great job an I would use him again, will answer you right away an has been right there every time I have called him.
Thank you Mr. David Lewis.

Horrible customer service the representative refused to let me speak to a manager. A representative promised a refund two weeks ago I never got it and they said I would have to wait for this representative to come in. Why would I have to wait for a representative to come in, I would understand if I had to wait for the manager but what? I've spent so much money and regret ever doing business with this company.
I have been using thumbtack for about a year now. It's a waste of money. The pros pay for everything and clients don't. Clients don't hire or intend to hire and the pro has to pay for that. It's not fair and should charge clients to post their listing and charge pros only if hired.
Do not trust Thumbtack rep when they tell you that they need pros like you in your area. They'll take $300 to sign you up and in return they'll give you zero leads!
Btw. The $300 NOT REFUNDABLE!
They won't just let you about it!
Do not trust Alicia Elliot and Jacob Rasmussen! They'll say anything to get you to sign up!
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
