We called customer service we give them notice that a customer change her request and then Thumbtack refused to refund us our money in the services that we provide all that is listed in our profile offer after hour service the customer originally requested same day service then they came back with a nighttime service which we do not offer several items that was not checked off as extra work was not checked off originally six hours later if the request came up again under a different criteria which we would not have did it, because we do not offer those services
I had signed up for Thumbtack as a contractor providing services. No good fits in my area for more than 6 months, then, out of the blue, Thumbtack charges me for a job straight up, a job that was a very bad fit for me, and which I never had a chance to compete for. They claim that targeting was on for my account, I do not know why it was turned on, why it took six months for the first charge to go through, or why the targeting preferences were so off that it was impossible for me to accommodate that particular job. I can tell you there were were two profiles under my business account, and this by itself raises severe questions on how my account was set up. In any case, Thumbtack initially agreed to refund the charges, only to find out later that they had not refunded the credit card that was charged, but they provided "store credit" that can only be used on future Thumbtack charges. Problem is that I am NOT planning on using Thumbtack EVER AGAIN. I absolutely refuse to conduct business with a company that insists on scamming $10.43 out of my pocket, through a charging glitch that gave it access to my credit card account, and is using all tricks in the unethical company playbook to get me to have future engagements with them by refusing to issue a direct refund to my credit card. Shameful bait and switch tactics that nobody should have to go through.
I tried getting project cost estimates from 5 different contractors through thumbtack.com. Only one responded to the request, but didn't follow through with a formal cost estimate. The others didn't respond at all, so I called them directly. None followed through on their promises/commitments to either call back or show up when promised. The review rating for one of the contractors was a 5-Star but was the single review was from the receptionist I spoke to. So, I assume thumbtack.com isn't too selective about what contractors they represent or promote. I'm quite disappointed.
A bunch of thieves stealing your money by fake leads. I received many lead for my security guard business. I intentionally give them a price bellow market value, offered discounts and additional services but still I didn't get the job. They send you fake leads and pocket your money. Stay away- go Facebook.
Jaime Santana at J & Son Exterminators is your guy! He takes house calls very seriously, he arrives very fast, hes an expert. And as a bonus, he has a good sense of humor. I'll definitely request him again if I need it.
Pepe of Ultimate Garage Doors *******269) came out this afternoon to asses the problem with my garage door. What I thought was going to entail a very expensive job, was a matter of making a few adjustments and proper lubrication. He explained everything that needed to be addressed, compared ti another company that wanted to replace the motor! I would highly recommend.
Thumbtack used to be a decent investment of time and the occasional fees. Unfortunately, they've gone crazy with their fees, and the leads tend to be questionably legitimate. Thumbtack takes any astronomical fee they want to take for leads. The last straw for me was when they took a $20 fee from me for a very small job for which I only bid and was paid $30! They took 67% of my income for that job! Even 20 percent wouldn't bother me much, but 67%? Gouge me once, shame on you... gouge me twice, shame on me... There will be no second time! Nobody warned me, but now YOU'VE been warned!
I found Jeff on Thumbtack and could not be happier with the result.
He told me that I would not have to take a day off of work and that he would come on the weekend.
He tiled a shower area and around a tub with great results.
I will be calling him back to do my Back splashes in two of my bathrooms.
I would recommend Dan with my eyes closed, he's professional, courteous, friendly and tells u the truth. He's also very prompt and answer's all ur questions cause he has the experience. I wish I could give him 10 stars. THANKS DAN. GOD BLESS YOU.
Horrible. Never again. Wrong leads, bad communication with support. No help at all from them. Very rude people.
I hired a company "LATTA PAINT AND FLOOR" in the Birmingham, Alabama area for paint work in a house I had just purchased at the time. When Kristian Latta (owner) came out to my home, he sat on my sofa after painting for a few minutes. At this time, my 18 pound dog jumped up on the ottoman in front of him. He then reached his hand as far back as he could and struck her on her rear, causing her to fly from the ottoman and crash into the sofa head first. He then made a repulsive comment about what he had done that I can't post here out of concern that the review will be removed. Because of what had happened, and how unstable he clearly is, I posted my 1 star review, and waited a year later until I moved out (and he didn't have my address) to post the text on my review. I recently was randomly thinking about my awful experience over this previous weekend, and decided to look up, "LATTA PAINT AND FLOOR" on Thumbtack, and found that the text of my review had been removed. I immediately called Thumbtack on Saturday 05/16/2020, and was advised by an automated system that they were closed on the weekends. I called them back first thing this morning, and was advised by rep Samantha that because the text was posted after the initial one star review was posted, the review team automatically comes in and removes the text from the review. It should be noted that I had also spoken to reps at Thumbtack about this incident prior to the phone call this morning, and AT NO TIME did anyone ever say I had a, "Time Limit" to post the text on a review. I then demanded to speak to a supervisor. A supervisor named Alan came onto the phone. You could tell in his voice that he didn't care one bit about the situation. At one point he said that his hands were tied, and that there was nothing he could do. He was very heartless about the whole thing. THIS COMPANY WILL DO WHATEVER THEY CAN TO KEEP MAKING MONEY. THIS EVEN INCLUDES PROTECTING ANIMAL ABUSERS WHO CALL THEMSELVES, "PROS". I would strongly recommend that you find other avenues for hiring true professionals to come into your home and perform services. Especially if you care about your loved ones. It's obvious that this company connects people with the worst of the worst of companies.
The site is useless if the only professional they refer you to does not reply. Better off using Google.
Zero stars - I could not get any money back For an incomplete job or reimbursed for damages. She is still active on Thumbtack.
Project: attach new boards to 6' x 6.5' porch ceiling. Project not done after $300 and 5 days. Three different days she said she had two flat tires. Kathy spilled paint on my wall and she did not get it off. I had to pay someone else to finish the job. I also had to pay for a professional $175 to remove the paint she spilled.
It was really nice working with P W O Z we wanted to freshen up our business mural and he quickly understood what we wanted. He brought his own ideas. And gave it a whole new life. He can really paint anything! Came out great. You can see down the street. We recommend. Jean ( JJC CLOCKS & ANTIQUES
I do cleaning I clean homes! Leads are anywhere from $50 to sometimes up to $90 which means I only made $20! I only got one job off them and then the poor guy ended up dying.in the end I played Thumbtack almost $300, and they refuse to give you your money back for leads that don't follow through, My husband uses the same app for doing gutters and somehow my cleaning jobs will show up on his account, one cleaning job showed he only had to pay $9.00 on my account through Thumbtack that same said cleaning job was $29.00! I would not use this app, rip off artist!
Trying to be positive about the situation that started the this process or issues but everything have issues
Thumbtack is just as bad as Home Advisor and Angie's List as a pro (Home Advisor and Angie's List both owned by the same company, btw). You will be so sorry if you join them. They charge way too much for leads and everyone who gets the same lead pays, even if you don't get the job. That is the main reason I stay far far away from all of these services! If they only charged you for leads that led to an actual paying job, it would work out for both parties.
How ridiculous is it for a company to give the same lead to as many pros as possible and charge all of them, knowing only one of them will get the job and the rest are throwing their money out of the window!
I'm a talented Low Voltage Integrator with a good customer base. I started using thumbtack to get more leads. I believe Thumbtack is generating false leads to charge more automatic payments to vendors.
Thumbtack is completely unethical. I paid $150 in leads that led me to 1 $50 job. My work is flawless and all my reviews are 5 stars on other sites.
I hired this clown who claimed to have 20 plus years of experience as a carpenter. He finally got here 3 hours late and I showed him my deck project. He said he was ready to start but didn't have any tools. He said his ex took them in three divorce. Long story short, I fired him in about 15 minutes after finding out he didn't know how to use a compound miter or table saw. If that wasn't bad enough, he stole my 6' ladder from the carport. I contacted thumbtack and they said there's nothing they can do.
Pros BEWARE. Lots of FAKE LEADS. Thumbtack now providing pros with FAKE LEADS, they raised prices and refusing to refund for BOGUS leads, that are cancelled, no replies, etc. Everything changed since March 2020 and all they do - charge your credit card and NO real work and NO legit inquires! Seems like they are hiring people who creating FAKE accounts and Fake inquiries! Out of 20 leads that I paid for - ZERO work and ZERO replies. Do the math!
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
