Thumbtack will provide you with leads. But I even if you cannot take the job, they charge you. If you try to reach a living body by phone, expect 0 response. If you email with questions expect NO response. You'd be better off tacking you resume to telephone poles at least you know your bank account is safe. Their business model is self enrichment not customer or client support.
Resurrection general contractors placed me new granite tops and cabinets. They did a great professional job.
I've been on thumbtack several years and have officially stopped following up on their leads. The cost of the leads is never predictable - fluctuates constantly and expensive - which means I end up quoting higher prices so I don't lose money delivering the service - customers would be better off to call service provider DIRECT. Now they require a background check to quote - I have 20 years teaching in public schools and 50 years providing services in homes and in mine - have never had a complaint. I don't feel comfortable handing over ALL my ID info - including SS to these anonymous internet services of whom I have NO info regarding THEIR credibility and overall security on site. I am DONE with these - I'll look for other advertising that is more productive and less expensive!
Leads were worthless. Charges were higher than they stated. Kept charging me even after I canceled the account. Had to dispute the charges on my credit card to get any kind of refund. Big waste of time.
It's funny how I only get leads AFTER I delete my credit card information from my account. I could have my credit card payment information on there for months and not one lead but as soon as I remove it all of a sudden I have leads. Makes no sense whatsoever.
This company makes fraudulent charges. The leads are often fake but you are charged $2 here, $5 there for fake leads. Awful, dishonest company.
After being charged several times, upwards of $10 each email, I realized that many of the profiles that I was seeing over and over and over, were fake. This company generates leads that aren't real in order to get more money from providers. Total scam.
They owed me 83.00 dollars an said its like an instore credit at which I will never use again and they will not put the money back on to my credit card. Mark couldn't answer the simple questions.
2-Day trying to talk to someone and no Reply
Phone waiting Time about 1h.
Email: Then not even reply
I've been with Thumbtack for 5 yrs now. They have really connected me with customers in the past. As time has past, the company has gone downhill. It's rigged! Go see for yourself!
It's all money driven now. Support team unavail most of the time. Leads are 2x the cost. You have to automatically pay for leads that you would usually see right off the bat as tire kickers. It's disappointing. This is a really great way for city people to view your profile and make a decision based upon what's presented to them.
You can end up paying between $20 and $50 for a lead. Every single lead purchased from them is worth. The client responds that yes I am interested and then you never hear back from them, yet you are charged for this lead. All of their leads are worthless and you are a fool if you pay this much for something where I can just open up the white pages and call people at random and get better results.
THEY CHARGE YOU A SMALL AMOUNT AND THEN IF YOU CANCEL THEY RATTLE OFF A BUNCH OF CHARGES REALLY FAST. READ THEIR TERMS AND CONDITIONS BEFORE SIGNING UP. THE LEADS THE OFFER ARE EXPENSIVE, INCOMPLETE AND NOT EXCLUSIVE. TOTALLY AN INSANE RACKET THAT I CAN ONLY ASSUME IS ILLEGAL.

As a pro they charge for leads even when I block days off as unavailable. Many leads are unresponsive when quoted, and the percentage of these are massively dis proportionate to other marketing for ready to hire platforms. I personally know my competitors and they say the same thing. Very suspect to me. Dont think you will be refunded anything, you will receive a credit for yet another "lead" that in my experience does not materialize.
Should a customer use this service, be aware that every pro you chose to quote a job pays for this "lead" and more than likely charge more since you've used this service than if you spent a few minutes and called direct for comparison shopping.
This was a nightmare before it even started. Every lead they gave us were nonresponsive and sometimes the same fake lead would be billed for twice. When we contact to our credit issue or we got the third degree from thumbtack saying that we had to go through their special department to obtain a refund. We explained that unauthorized billing is taken seriously and our bank immediately issues chargebacks in these cases. While this wasn't dispute they even sent over another fake lead and tried to bill us another $4.58 which they are still haunting us for. Stay away from thumbtack it is a bad bad place to do business with. No ethics.
I am a pro on thumbtack
I am a pro on thumbtack, in the beginning leads were great with a 90percent close rate. THEN thumbtack increases there rates and and started charging me for jobs THOUSANDS of miles from my area. They said I had REMOTE work turned on. Which I didn't. After emailing support MANY times for refunds. Get the same Form letter response. As a pro. I'm losing faith in this site... they bill me for bogus leads then won't refund the bogus leads costs... they use to be good then got GREEDY.
We hired Oak Harbor Excavating and Landscaping to repair some damage to our landscaping. They came out and completed about 70% of the work within a few days. I was very satisfied with the work that they have completed. Since it was early February, he was not able to purchase the plants that was needed. We agreed that he could finish the job in the spring when plants are available and install a railroad tie. It is now mid-August and he has not returned to complete the job and is avoiding all my calls and text messages. Beware when dealing with this company.
Thumbtack is a website that you pay per lead. Thumbtack claims that they work for you and help you get in contact with people who need your services. This is not true I have never gotten a single lead from Thumbtack. Though their SEO practices are well done I have never gotten the value out of paying thumbtack to send a potential customer a message I have lost over $100 to customers who asked one question and then never respond again. Thumbtack is dishonorable dishonest and an embarrassment to the business community their practices do not help business owners get leads they exist entirely to steal money from single business owners and pretend that they are helping. The Thumbtack business model should be illegal. Never get involved with these people.
Fraudulent charges for leads that do not meet my job description. I was recently charged for 3 separate service requests that were labeled as financial planning, which is the service I provide. I responded to leads that were labeled as such. When the leads contacted me to begin service, they each individually described their needed service to be something other than financial planning, such as tax planning, and business planning, which I do not provide. When contacting Thumbtack about this, they said that since I sought out these jobs in their opportunities section, they are not responsible for the job, and I pay for the lead no matter what. This basically means... if someone advertises for financial planning, and it turns out they need a roof leak fixed, I am responsible for paying for the lead even though it was falsely advertised. The definition of fraud is wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain. This definition fits what Thumbtack is practicing in.
I had A small room that needed vinyl flooring. The room was prepped and ready to go. Presto FLOORING's Joe Murillo responded quickly with a detailed quote and was able to do my job within a day. He came prepared with all the equipment that he needed. The job was done in four and a half hours including a quick trip to Home Depot.
Joe is a pro and knows his job well. I think my job was a piece of cake compared to the many intricate flooring jobs he is capable of.
I would definitely recommend him!
They have these apps set up so you get charged for service you don't provide, and won't help struggling contractors
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
