I hired No Spot Cleaning. They did a terrible job. After complaining the company said they would schedule a "redo" no charge. They were three days late, did another terrible job, and charged me again. One cleaner with her 10 year old son!
Thumbtack is a joke. I'd say Thumbtack and No Spot are both equal with a great big ZERO.
They focused charge $300 from your account, and they said we will help you for find job on this app. They called me after open account and they are focus to who know not speak good English and, they are saying we will help you find a job easily and they charge $300 from your debit card, from my account and they don't refund it, please please be more careful.
I should have known. I read through the reviews before signing up, but we were urged by a "mentor" at the time to do it anyway. Thumbtack will charge you A LOT for horrible leads. You will pay dearly for people who are tire-kickers, extreme low-ballers, have ridiculously high expectations, and even for those who admit they changed their mind on the project at all. (Yes, I have written proof). It doesn't even matter if you set your calendar to "unavailable", they will still charge you for leads that come through, but here's the kicker -- you will only get "Thumbtack credit" for the theft. Apparently, it is against their policy to actually refund money that they take from you for any reason. It just hangs out within Thumbtack forever. (Yes, I have proof of this too). Oh, and here's another huge red flag (as if you need any more, right?). Leads started to dwindle down to maybe one lead per week. Within 30 minutes of setting my calendar to unavailable, I literally got bombarded with leads. HUGE red flag for me!
Do yourself a favor and find another way. ANY other way. Thumbtack will only lead you to financial ruin.
I will start from the beginning. Your employee called my personal work looking for landscapers since the company was short on landscapers in my area. I said I would help out and talk to upper management and corporate (VPs) and recommend Thumbtack to get customers and to fulfill their needs as well. I spoke with someone with the last name Verkic I notified him I used Thumbtack as well for face painting and I enjoyed the service ok so far. We ended the conversation. He called me back and spoke to me again and said I spoke with my manager and he was interested in us helping you with your face painting leads. I was like "OH that is wonderful. Sure!" He told me that Thumbtack would give me $500 credit, and make me a priority (number #1 in leads). I thought this was awesome.
Well when they tell you some things are too good to be true. IT IS! This guy failed to mention I would be charged $300 to get this "credit." So I was charged $300 which has caused my account to overdraft and be short on my mortgage this month. DO YOUR EVEN RECORD YOUR CONVERSATIONS? This Verkic guy never went through the contract with me. Rushed me through and took advantage of my kindness. This is appalling as I have asked for a manager or upper management to call me and their excuse is emailing is quicker yet this is taking FOREVER and I am pretty sure I am going grey in the time period I have been waiting and stressing about this. You stole my money PERIOD.
I will continue to warn people about your company that you are scamming pros by making fake leads, and discriminate against African Americans by removing their accounts. I DO NOT want a response on here that you have contacted me to resolve this. YOU SEND ME COPY AND PASTED responses and it's a JOKE! Until I am refunded my $300 I WILL continue to post and warn others about your scam, and how your BILLIONAIRE CEO is robbing innocent people during a pandemic.
I have no words for them but they are BS and charges are outage! BS marketing company looking for themselves and not their customer base. Their leads are FAKE!
Terrible customer service - They took my money but wouldnt help me set the account up properly. I had a free account set up. When thumbtack called with a cyber monday offer I decided to take advantage of. I wanted to have both of my businesses represented. They rushed me through the process and didnt tell me that once a name was on the account, it couldnt be changed. They didnt help me set up properly and basically had NO solution for THEIR mistake!
I started with Thumbtack as a pro dog trainer over 4 years ago. The cost of leads were about $7 per lead and refunded if there was zero response from potential lead. Here we are 4 years later, cost is now $14- 17.50 per lead! Lots of non serious leads, some shopping for a friend or even shopping for dog trainers before they acquire a dog. Many don't want to spend $$. No responses is common. You pay equal amounts for leads with zero contact info, so you are forced to use the Thumbtack platform- no phone or email. Competition sites. Bark.com per lead around $11-13 and you get a phone number and email address. Advertising and lead referral costs money, but seems throwing nearly $20 per lead is crazy! The people don't know they charge the pros... so they will even relist and keep costing pros money. Basic idea good but vast improvements could help this lead platform have better value.
I had an issue with one of their contractors
FA2 Landscape in Litchfield Park AZ
With multiple cancelations on their part and not showing up. So I gave them a poor review. The contractor " Fernando " responded with an insulting and unprofessional email to me.
I followed Thumbtack's problem reporting procedures twice and was never responded to...
Kind of like the contractor...
This is strike 3 for them...
Taking my business elsewhere...
I built a decent Thumbtack profile over a year (150+ 5-Star reviews) and received Top Pro status. One random Sunday, my account was deactivated. No email, no phone call, no response to my inquiry. They removed a review at the beginning of my tenure because they claimed it was illegitimate - they had no reasoning whatever, but I figured it was a fluke. Obviously I was wrong. The leads are also expensive.
I use to use Thumbtack when I first started my business. Generated a lot of leads for me at a REASONABLE price! Note the REASONABLE price part in that sentence!
Now they are charging upwards of $30 if someone even responds to a quote. You may not get the job, may not even hear from the people again, but still are charge an exorbitant amount. And the manner in which they do the billing and setup is shady.
Thumbtack will charge you whether you accept a lead or not. So in my case, I paint murals and do illustration gigs. I thought Thumbtack would be a good place to find more business. I accepted that you will be charged for contacted clients, whether you land the gig or not. That made sense. But then I started getting charged for getting contacted by clients, even when I didn't respond. They say since the client saw my profile on their website and reached out to me, they have the right to charge me. That doesn't make any sense. If it wasn't for that practice I would still use Thumbtack, but I don't want to be charged for some random person sending me an email if I do not respond.
If I could rate Zero I would... Beware...!
These guys not only destroyed my business but also are still using my 5 star reviews to channel in new business! Stealing any future business I should be getting! Somebody needs to stop them and sue the $#*! out of them! I promise you! If you use them you will 100% regret it just read the reviews
Both sides Sketchy contractors now and they have $#*!ty and fake leads
Thumbtack is a total scam for Pros. Charges hundreds to thousands of dollars for a so-called "lead" even if you do not get the job booked. I'm lit tons of money and still no job booked. Very disappointing and concerning that they are scamming poor people just trying to work! They should be shut down.
I've been on Thumbtack since 2012. Thumbtack originally was allies with my Company, but they have slowly become my absolute Enemy. They refuse ALL refund request no matter how bogus the lead is, if a crazy person that was never a Customer of mine post a negative review of me Thumbtack protects the person posting the false statements then tells me to go pound sand, when I call to speak to a supervisor I'm always told there is never any supervisors available... I could give Many more examples, but the easiest way to explain it is that Thumbtack is my Enemy.
As a Thumbtack pro I am very unhappy. I have been victim to all of these money scams that Thumbtack does and now they got me on couple scams. Twice this month I was charged over $25 for "exact match, direct leads". In both instances I was the ONLY pro selected by the "customer". The first one I responded with my availability and provided an estimate to one customer which was just my hourly rate times 2 hours. A few hours later I was contacted by customer saying they hired someone else. I was supposedly the only one chosen yet they hired someone else? I was charged $24.74 for this. My refund request to Thumbtack was rejected.
The other scam was I was chosen by customer to do a job, another "exact match, direct lead" and I was charged $27. I went to respond to the customer 2 hours later, I would have responded faster but I was on another Thumbtack job and couldn't respond right away. Anyway, when I did go to respond it said that the customer had canceled the job and/or canceled their account. But did Thumbtack refund my money? Hell no! I was told by Thumbtack they don't issue refunds on canceled jobs. Technically there was no job for me to do but I was still charged for it. That in my eyes is theft. I don't believe there ever was a "real job"" or even a "real customer". This is what I would call a perfectly constructed scam pulled off by Thumbtack. Well done you mother ******. I hope you all go to prison when this crap is finally proven true. I don't use Thumbtack often because every time I do, this kind of **** happens. Time to get myself a lawyer.
If you like to flush money down the toilet, I challenge you to join Thumbtack and they will help you do just that. After spending over $2,000.00 of my hard earned money, they charged me for every cheap windown shopper fake $#*! clients they could forge and even when I set my account not to accept project over 5 hours (since their fee was just killing me), they charged me under their perfect match policy. When I set my calendar as unavailable for days I had other engagements, guest what, they still charged me.
So if you like to pay for things your don't need, Thumbtack will gladly help you. If you need to talk to someone, not a chat line to be blown off or email, you will find yourself spinning in circle in their so elegantly designed $#*!ed up answering system that keeps repeating itself just to frustrate you and waste your time. I challenge you to give their customer care a call to see how much they don't care.
Lastly, remember even though you are a pro with 5 star ratings from your customers, you mean nothing to them and they will just turn to the next newbie photographer and scam, charge, repeat.

TT has increased their prices EXTREMELY high since about 5 years i begin using them. Back then TT was great, but about a year ago when taken by new administration, this people raised their prices, increased number of competitors per lead and change the system for charging the pros. Before, the number of people to aply a lead was 5, now is about 15, causing more difficulty to get hired. The cost went from 5-10$ to now being 20-100$ fee per lead, thats insane to think off how it will add up for a job you will most likely will not get competing with so many pros and the magnitude of people just window shopping. I stopped using this people and will never again.
I feel played using them got duplicate leans and was told I will be refunded back to my card, they give me false information I am no longer going to be doing business with them.
They charge you even when you don't get the job. Avoid! Their policy is ridiculous! Just because the customer contacts you, you have to pay for the lead even when you are not available for the job.
Terrible customer service from a handyman group called Xigman, listed on their website. They left me waiting for 3 hours and never showed up. When I called back, they said they didn't do the type of work that I needed. And I had specifically emailed Xigman earlier that week to make sure they had all the tools necessary for my specific task (hanging closet doors).
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
