OMG What an incredible waste of time and MONEY! So, so much money lost on this site that I may as well have gone to a casino (it may have been more profitable that way)! First off, they are GREEDY! $25.00 for a lead that never responds back to you, gives you a disconnected phone number, and when you ask them to refund your money, they DON'T! I mean, they're basically making millions by EXPLOITING honest business owners... I AM STARTING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THIS COMPANY. If you want to be apart of it, my contact info will be at the bottom. I HAVE BEEN GIVEN LEADS THAT ARE OBVIOUS SCAMMERS AND PEOPLE WITH ABSOLUTELY NO INTENT OF USING MY BUSINESS!
Thumbtack, you should be ashamed of yourselves! You literally manipulate your users into using an unreliable platform for your own gain... ILLEGAL!
Thumbtack certified and verified this business. JNVIS roofing company's owner seems to be a very decent guy, I like him. I was ready to hire him until I looked him up on DPOR and he is not registered as a licensed contractor in Virginia or anywhere. For those of you who don't know, DPOR is the governing body of Virginia Department of Professional and Organizational Regulations. I posit the questionb to him as why he wasn't licensed and he never answered me. I double checked with DPOR and they could not find him either. I asked him for his license and insurance several times and he never produced them. So buyers beware since Thumbtack and others are verifying him as one of the top roofers in this area, certified and verified by who? I guess Thumbtack is still just trying to make money and /or get a lawsuit against them because they recommended someone to me 4 years ago and I did not do my due diligence and he still has 4500 ( Bruce Ross DMV Roofing and his sister Brittany they're just thieves) of my money and he was listed on Thumbtack HomeAdvisor and including Google. However, I can't seem to find this company on Google either but Thumbtack says he's one of the top rated here but we do know you can buy some people to write reviews right there are legit scam artists. JNVIS doesn't have a website but he is on Facebook, that alone should give you pause, who isn't on FB? What happens if he falls off your roof or one of his workers are injured who is liable? I'll let you unpack that question while I provide you a few answers. No matter how nice a contractor is: In the State of Virginia this applies to all contractors...
Only a licensed general contractor can undertake major projects where construction permits are available... A large number of works can be done by licensed general contractors. It may include earth movement, transportation, power, supports, framing or roofing. But contractors in fact can not always work on it all. And some license only go up to $10,000 so make sure they're able to work on your project, THUMBTACK isn't for sure.

Just looking out-
Annette, we want to ensure we're connecting you with quality professionals you can trust and rely on to get your projects done the right way. We take concerns like this very seriously and our Trust and Safety team works to verify business licenses and run background checks so you can hire with confidence. If we receive a report about a concern, we'll work to look into it and if needed take action to remove them from our site. If a pro has a badge showing they are licensed, it means they have provided proof of their license to our team and we have verified it. If you ever find a concern about a pro or have project concerns after hiring one, we want to help you find a resolution. You can report this directly to our Trust and Safety team at https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. We'd like to find out more about the concerns you've listed here regarding DMV roofing and JNIVS roofing so please feel free to use the link here or reach out to us in a private message via one of our social media channels. We look forward to speaking with you and working to help better your experience on Thumbtack.
I have recently been extremely disappointed with Thumbtack, which I used consistently and happily for the past two years. This has been my primary means of attracting new clients to my tutoring and editing business. It has enabled me to consistently attract a full time amount of freelance work.
Very suddenly, my profile stopped showing up in search results, despite my being a top pro with a platinum status, having 23 five star reviews, and a perfect response record. I have reached out to customer service multiple times. In one week, I dropped from 860 listing views to 40.
I was told that "this just happens sometimes," and "it's part of the analytics," but that there was also nothing I could do to improve my situation aside from reaching out to potential customer's directly.
I called customer service four different times and received four different responses. I was told by two representatives that they would connect me with a supervisor which never happened. I was told that this "isn't a tech issues" while also being told that I had done everything "perfectly" on my end and that my situation - no longer showing up in search results - was very puzzling.
I used to frequently recommend Thumbtack to friends and family. I will not be recommending Thumbtack any longer. I am absolutely infuriated and will be searching for a different platform on which to advertise my business moving forward.
Lauren, we know this can be a frustrating situation and we apologize for any confusion that's happened along the way. We'd love to take the opportunity to chat with you further to see what we can find on our end that may help. We'd welcome you to contact us via one of our social media channels and we can dive in with you to get this figured out. We appreciate all your hard work in the past and your consistent effort to excel on Thumbtack. We hope to hear from you soon so we can get to the bottom of this.
Several years ago I used Thumbtack several times. Good results. In the last 2 years, they have gone down the toilet. Two people I tried to hire contacted me once quickly and disappeared. Did not call me back or show up at scheduled times. Waiting and repeated messages and they were gone. Like Craigslist scammer. Really screwed me up. There is no way to contact the company. If you are one of those unfortunate people who lost, broke, or don't have the ability to text on your phone, you have no options. There are no consequence to these "professionals."
Geneva, we're so sorry to hear that your experience wasn't up to par. It's important that we connect you with quality services you can trust and we have high expectations of every pro on Thumbtack. We'll work to help you find a resolution and hope to better your experience with Thumbtack. We hope to hear from you soon.
I booked for a message service last month that ended up $150/h. I went today to nearby spa and paid fraction on what I paid on Thumbtack, and the service at the spa was much professional
Ron, we appreciate your feedback for the massage providers on Thumbtack. Pricing is always up to the individual companies who offer the services requested and there can be a wide range of pricing available from various pros. We always suggest looking for the pro who best fits your needs and budget. If we can be of any help with any projects that come up in the future, don't hesitate to let us know.
Thumbtack will charge your quotes from unverified customers. Save your time and money from using Thumbtack.
Lon, we're sad to hear that you feel this way. Our team is always working to verify requests as they come in to be sure we're providing you with quality leads. We wish you all the best and hope to hear from you in the future.
Oh my. Where do I start. Spoke to the gentleman a couple times before my move. Told him I had a 2 bd 2bath apt to move across the street to a1st floor apt since I can; t do 2nd floor steps anymore. He said he would do it for $ 425. Shocked but happy to save money. As time went on I felt a little insecure and called to check if there was still an active number. Ok so day comes. He's on time but where is his help. And thankfully it wasn't raining since he had an open tag- along t railer.? So he looks around while he was on his cell. Then said" this goes too? No I don't need a dresser anymore. Goof! Trust me I am a minimalist and have only what I need in each room. Come on isn't a dresser kind of standard? He wasn't happy. He then says "I know I quoted you $450 (what happened to $425} but I need $600. I told him no. He should have asked for a list or came ahead to look it over I offered $500 and he finally said ok. Now the other man shows up-{on his cell} Every couple minutes he would ask if this or that had to go, Now when I think of someone moving I assume everything in apt is being transferred to another apt. Yea sure I; m leaving this table or that lamp. Now he's getting me pissed. Then they started. Thankfully my daughter and son in law were at the new place. Clearly inexperienced and not interested in working or concern for my items. They were just dropping boxes in the living room even though they were marked which room until my daughter stopped them. She told them the boxes were marked for a reason which he didn; t like but started shuffling to get the hell out,
I would never use them again
Very shoddy work, unequipped to be movers, on cell the ENTIRE time, tried to get more money from me after quoting price.
INSTA JUNK REMOVAL
I should have known better from the name..
Ornelia, we're so sorry to hear that your moving experience wasn't what it could have been. We know it can be frustrating when pricing changes and expectations are not met. We want to be sure we're connecting you with quality pros for every project and our Trust and Safety team is dedicated to helping in these matters. Please feel free to report your concerns to us at https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern and we can look into this further with you and work to help better your experience in the future. We hope to hear from you soon.
Do not use thumbtack. They are one sided to favor their pockets. I'm an electrician and I see what customers select out of all the services they are offered. Most of the time they select the wrong service which increases the price of the lead. If you dispute the charge they deny you just like that. They have no idea what they are doing when it come to charging leads. It's a $#*!ty company. I deleted mine. I hope you do too.
Jeff, we're sorry to hear you feel this way after using Thumbtack. Our goal is to help you see the value we can bring your business. We're always open to feedback that can help us better improve our platform for both customers and pros. We'd be happy to hear from you more to see what thoughts you can share that will help clarify these leads further so you're always getting the leads you would like to be. Feel free to contact us in a private message via one of our social media channels and we'll be happy to jump in with you and see if we can provide any tips to help you see a great return on your investment. We hope to hear from you soon.
Sarah is the most unprofessional freelancer on Thumbtack. Her website is linked here:
https://sarahkooiker.com/
Sarah scheduled a telephone meeting and was a no-show. I wrote a review to express my unfavorable experience with her. Sarah called me crying hysterically and pleaded with me for a second chance by offering to help me get the project done for free in exchange for removing the terrible review. I told Sarah that I will pay her for the job.
Sarah offered to start the job next Tuesday. Unfortunately, Sarah backed out of the business deal and I lost the client. I am working hard to salvage the relationship with the client.
I believe her prior good reviews on Thumbtack aren't credible. Stay away from working with Sarah.
Very honest company, started with a misunderstanding because i was comming from another state to visit, when i arrived the person that was living at the the house to be cleaned was unclear of what was to be done along with the worker. No worries though everything ended up working out and stephanie reached out to me and made sure everything was perfect, she is a very honest person and will make everything just the way you need it!
If I could, there would be no limit to the stars i would give for this company! Mr. Souza responded immediately to my request! Within a few minutes, I had the cost and an appointment which was also within a three day waiting period! His work is amazing! I highly recommend this company! Mary C
Pros: They used to refund your bank account if you raised enough hell over bad or false/bogus leads, now it's only a credit with their site which is infuriating and ought to be illegal. They're never held accountable and it is very hard if not impossible to get your financial institution to return the money as well. As I'm learning with the latest dispute, you must prove TT initiated a refund to your bank account. Which they've stopped doing. So, they've somehow found loopholes to avoid accountability. And they absolutely generate fake leads, don't even get me started. RUN from ThumbTack.
This company will milk money from you as much as possible. They have very deceptive business practices and a sketchy at best "refund policy". I am currently not using this company because of these reasons. The "leads" they "sell" you are sold to multiple different contractors within the same work category. They will take the money directly from your account without asking or needing any authorization per their contract terms. If the "lead" even reads your initial contact text you're not eligible for a refund wether the "lead" replies or not. When I was last using the service I was paying anywhere between $30-$50 per lead! Mind you, I'm not a high ticket contractor. To make things even worse, they don't let the consumer on the other end know that there are contractors paying good money just to send them a message in the hopes of bidding on their job. The majority of their "leads" are cheap homeowners kicking tires. You can literally have more success knocking on random doors or cold calling. You can and most likely will spend more money than you'll earn through their "service". I would recommend any new business owner steer clear of this terrible, money hungry company. Any response you see from Thumbtack on these types of critical reviews is purely lip service, they take absolutely no action, the service only continues to get worse. I used to recommend this service to other contractors at one point, now I'm waiting to have the satisfaction of watching them go out of business, fingers crossed.
AFTER THEY TAKE YOUR CREDIT CARD FORGET IT. AFTER MULTIPLE TIMES OF TRYING TO CONTACT THUMBTACK NO ONE EVER GETS BACK TO YOU AND THEY SAND LEADS THAT ARE NOT EVEN IN THE CATAGORY OR WORK I DO OR SIGNED UP FOR
This app ha long history of being scam and sending scam leads, further from that they make discrimination among pros who worked over there and remove bad reviews for some of them and not all of them.
And when you complain they easily remove your account even with 165 five stars reviews and only four one stars.
They behave too rude to you and sll the time threatening you to remove your business. At the end of the day, they see themselves as your boss and they can remove your ten years business in one blink.
If you are a professional never ever put your company on this platform.
They will charge you for " perfect match" that are not a perfect match and never give your money back.
They will give you back a "credit " towards more fake leads.
Shame on them, total scam just like home advisor.
I am Very irritated with this company as they send as well as charge me for prospective clients that live over 4 hours away when I state I need clients 30 min or less away. After recently charging me for someone 4 hours away (which is impossible for me to train) they deactivated my account without any warning or reason.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS SITE!
I tried to register as a pro and came across a low cost project whose value was under $250.And to send a quote to that is of course free. And if the customer responds I will be charged, $46 and change, that too with absolutely no assurance that I will get that project!
This is absolutely ridiculous and daylight robbery. The customer may have some questions for which he might respond and I will get chargeed for that as well. How convenient and cheap way to make money!
If your issue is how to stop customers and pro's contacting directly without paying thumbtack, then there are simple solutions to fix that hole. I have been a ecommerce specialist and this is definitely not the way to charge anyone!
I do not think I will be using thumbtack service much anymore, as a customer and as a pro, because even as a customer if I ask a question to the quote, Thumbtack will rob the "pro" of their so called service fee!
If Thumbtack need solutions, they can contact me. Maybe I can answer their questions for free if they happen to have any questions!
A very disgruntled Pro and customer!
They will charge few pros at the same time for the same customer lead, encouraging the customer to click on 3 to 4 professional pro so they will get pay x 4 times.
Most of the customers are from other country any ways where they pay them to call.
I've watched Thumbtack for the last 7 years go from a platform where a competent commercial artist could make a decent living to a place that only benefits clients seeking top-notch work and not willing to pay a professional wage for that work.
Used to be clients were required to post their budget ranges so that experienced artists could avoid the $5/hr crowd, (which is 90% of their logo seekers) but since they got too many complaints from clients saying no one would take on their assignments, they're eliminated that except for website design.
I used to average $50-$80/hr on work for serious clients who wanted serious design development. Now I'm lucky if I can average $20/r/ Prices you pay for a quote have gone up from under $10/hr to over $30/hr. You get billed for clients who are just looking and don't commit and clients who don't end up hiring you can leave scathing reviews!
They have continued to raise their rates during the pandemic even though clients have no more money to hire pros to do their work...
Partronizing support team often offers NO viable solutions to your problems.
I would recommend this plate form at all.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
