Hired a professional off of their website to clean our new home purchase. Vacant property Required cleaning details description. Absolutely none of it was done that I asked for. When I brought it to the resolution Center at thumbtack that is supposed to be backed by a money back guarantee. I was told I would have to take it up with the"pro". They are choosing to stand by this and result as a cleaned property.
I have hired off Thumbtack twice and both times they damaged my home! The first "professional" threatened to "beat me within an inch of my life" because I left him negative feedback! I responded to him appropriately considering he threatened violence in open forum and Thumbtack kicked me off the site! I lost money too!
I opened another account and hired painters! They ended up not being professional painters, had no plan, no reliability, never showed up consistently, and were all Meth Addicts! I can say that with all certainty from what I saw and experienced with them after 30 years working the streets of Las Vegas! After 19 days these Methheads couldn't finish the exterior of my 400 sqft shop yet they had paint all over the shop, and different walls on the exterior of the house now! Nothing Finished! Paint Everywhere so I fired them and gave them half the labor minus the $260 I gave him upfront for "his utilities bills at his house!" (MORE THAN LIKELY METH
MONEY!)
I was left over the barrel with any other painter that came along by them knowing I needed them to finish the job!
I gave Thumbtack two opportunities and after being threatened with violence by the First "Thumbtack Pro" and having Thumbtack block me over responding to him I opened a second account to give them another opportunity! I got the Meth Addicts next that knew nothing about exterior painting! They had no plan, no management, no schedule, no idea what they were doing and wanted me to buy paint before they had prepped the entire job! Two Red Flags! The #1 was their appearance and TEETH! Then the "Owner" asked for a draw on the job to pay his utilities! Red Flag #2! The last and final straw was 19 days and no completion of anything and paint slung on every wall, in my landscaping rocks and no one showing up on time!
After 19 days I fired them!
I had one painter before the Methheads set up an appointment and never showed or called! So really 3 Negative Experiences with Thumbtack!
STAY AWAY FROM THUMBTACK!

I used their services before and hired 3 times from their site.
Plumbing service was ok but the other ones are not so good.
I filed complaints but did not receive any feedback that are helpful

They way thumbtack Conduct business its Discusting. I found out today that when you get a direct lead you and 5 other company get charged for the same lead and then you book the job but you get to the customer home and you fiend out there is onther company working on the job. So how is it fair for the us pros. They give the customer the options of booking more than one company at the same time but they won't hold the customer responsible to pay for our service fee. So they met only charge us for the same lead 5 times. And when you ask for a refund they only refund you leads and not money never heard of that before.
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience feedback surrounding leads and refunds. We're sorry to hear Thumbtack may not have been what you expected for your business, we'd like to turn around your experience however we can. While we can't guarantee jobs, our support team is here to help you set your profile up for success, so that you can be competitive and win more jobs. Description of Complaint:
I was scammed by a contractor that I hired through Thumbtack for a patio extension, total cost $11,400. The contractor started the job, then over the week requested all the amount in full for material. While digging the contractor hit my water line for my sprinkler system. Never to show up again or respond to emails/texts. On 11/15/2021 I reached out to Thumbtack Trust and Safety and started communicating with "Helen" as you can never get a direct email or number to reach an actual person. Good luck trying to use the app to "schedule" a call as all time slots are booked. I was asked to provide proof of contract, proof of payment, proof of communication emails/texts, proof of damage/pictures. I provided all back promptly. On 11/17 I received an email to fill out a link on total cost I would like reimbursed for the damage/repair and the quotes to support the amount within 60 days, 1/17/2021. During the Holidays, COVID hit my household and affected us for a 6 week time frame which caused a delay in having a contractor visit on site. I had delays finding a contractor as many are booked out for on site quotes for 8 weeks or more due to limitations of staff due to Omnicrom spike during that time. I was able to get one contractor to visit on site and provide quote for the cement to be demolished to repair water line and rebuild cost would be $40,593.75. I submitted the estimate and explained the delay on 1/27 which was 10 days pasted the 1/17 deadline. I was immediately denied for the Thumbtack Guarantee because I was past 60 days but offered a "possibility" of $1,000 money back guarantee. I asked for management to reach out to me as I feel there should be exceptions and extensions due to COVID. I am not asking for $40K reimbursement but at least want to be fair and $1K is not fair. Per the fine print for Guarantee, I provided everything requested. Estimated quotes are not in the fine print and I feel is another way to delay reimbursement.
Hi Miranda, we're very sorry to hear about your project experience. We noticed this same review on several platforms, we wanted to reiterate the same information we shared in previous responses, to ensure we're clear on how we can help and how to get in touch with the right team. We appreciate you making us aware of your situation, we can see that you've been working with our Trust and Safety Team, please respond to their last email from March 7th with any questions, concerns, or requests so that we can review your case further and follow up with additional support. You're also welcome to send us a DM on any social media platform (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) and we'll be happy to look into this for you.
As a Pro client, you have to jump thru hoops to speak to an actual person. After weeks of emails, text messages and voice calls, I got a call. I purchased a $400 package and got charged for leads that never materialized. We closed the business and they are refusing to refund the remaining balance, over $300. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they said. I'd have to wait 1-2 business days for one to contact me. Unacceptable, unprofessional customer service!
Hi Stella, thank you for sharing this feedback about your experience. We're sorry to hear you're no longer in business, we understand how this would be a frustrating situation. Our typical supervisor response time is within 1-2 business days, to ensure we're assisting all of our users. If your concerns haven't been resolved yet, please send us a DM on social media so that we can look into this for you.
If you don't accept the overpriced automatic leads you won't have a chance of getting a job as one of their pros. Horrendous customer service and plenty of ghost gigs meant to fuel themselves on your dime. If you'll take a look at the screenshot provided those are just 5 quotes out of 11 sent since new years. Only 1 was able to see my quote and respond. The information above in red is indicating that I did not want to automatically pay for all the leads they want to send my way. Which hides my services from everyone but I'm still able to reach them on my own as they put it (screenshot provided). It's a scam and you should stay away.
Thank you for your feedback Bruno, we're sorry to hear you didn't find success through the platform. We understand that not receiving responses can be frustrating, we'd be happy to provide direct support to review your profile and preferences to ensure you're set up for success. We work hard to maintain the integrity of the platform and make sure leads are legitimate for pros, if you ever come across a concerning lead, please report it to us here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. You also mentioned not showing up to customers, this is because targeting preferences are turned off. We hear your concerns about paying for automatic leads, but we did want to mention that you can utilize the budget tool so you control exactly how much you're paying for these leads: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/budget. Please feel free to send us a DM on any social media platform so that we can further help.
They are doing excellent work. They fixed my problem at reasonable price. ThanExcellent work. They are Friendly, fast professional. Great communication and did all he could to give us a solution to suit our needs.ku!
We're so happy to hear you had a good experience! Thanks for taking the time to leave a 5 star review, we appreciate it. Be sure to review the pro you hired on the platform too: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/review-a-pro.
You see Thumbtack reviews by pros, we all dislike them.
I have been in business for more than 25 years, I know my client base. Customers that send requests through thumbtack choose the cheapest quote 9 times out of 10, then you see them complaining about the service. Well you get what you pay for. Only low quality pros bother with Thumbtack because it SUCKS! Leads are expensive, and people are cheap.
Stop whining about getting low quality service if you think the cheapest bid is the best! Thumbtack is too easily manipulated. They will get exactly $0 of my money. I know my customer base very well, and when people talk to me they know i come with experience and credentials. On Thumbtack it doesn't matter. I would love to say I feel sympathy for Thumbtack users, but I really dont. It seems to draw in low quality leads, and a lot of fakes. Why would any smart business owner spend good money after bad?
See the screen shot? Out of 10 leads paid for only 1 person hired for a measley $150 job. 6 of them never even responded, the other 3 just picked the cheapest bid possible. Thats over $200 in leads for a big waste of time.
Thumbtack tried to bring me back onboard with them as I was a top pro with 150 plus 5 star reviews, they were once a great platform but over time it turned to garbage, They gave me $300 in free credit to try. I have to say its even worse than I remember. PRO's, dont waste your time or money!
Thank you for taking the time to share this honest feedback as a business owner. We're sorry to hear that you feel this way about the platform, but we understand it might not work for everyone. To address some of the concerns you mentioned, it's important to us that we provide resources and tools for a variety of business to showcase their experience, expertise, credentials, reviews, and previous work. We also have a team dedicated to helping customers resolve project issues when things don't go as planned. We appreciate all reviews so that we can work to improve and also get in touch with users if they need additional support.
Our car was hit by a moving company that helped my neighbor move in, via thumbtack, they ended up backing into our car and causing over 4000$ worth of damage. We had to pay because they did not have insurance and were not bonded or licensed. We as well as our neighbor contacted thumbtack they told us they were not responsible and would not be helping us in the slightest to get reimbursed. Awful company, you' be better off hiring someone with a pickup off of Craigslist, at least you wouldn't have to pay a broker fee. We will be reporting them to the state attorney and the better business bureau.
Hi Scott, we're sorry to learn about what happened during your neighbor's moving project. It sounds like your neighbor was in touch with our Trust and Safety Team, we always encourage customers to report concerns like these here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. It's important to us that we hold the service provider accountable for these concerns, we don't directly employ pros on the site. Please send us a DM on social media so that we can look further into your concerns and provide direct support.
When thumbtack started it was great. I jumped off that platform when they went rogue on their prices. I pity anyone who strays near them. Like so many other platforms, it starts out good then greed sets in. Every. Single. Time. My advice is to stay away. I just stay away from all of them. Burned once… shame on them… burned twice …. Shame on me
Thank you for the pricing feedback, Laura. We're sorry to see you go because of this, however we want to wish your business well as you move forward. If you ever change your mind and want to try again, we recommend utilizing our budget tool: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/budget so you can set an amount to spend on leads.
If you look at the leads in thumbtack you can see how many pros have responded to lead and how many pros have been reached by customer. Either way thumbtack collecting money from all those contacts om same lead multiple times i have even seen leads with 7 to 8 contacts.
The only person making money here is thumbtack and customers getting free information.
This company is a scam and dose not do business the honest way or fair way.
There is no limited number of leads to reach out by a customer. There is no restrictions. Bark is same too
Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback, we're always working on improving. We believe it's important that customers have the opportunity to contact a few different pros, to find the one best suited for their project. While we understand that means not all leads will always result in a hire, we have resources available to help pros build a successful profile and gain a competitive edge, to win more jobs. You're always welcome to reach out to our team if you're interested in updating your profile or need success tips for the platform.
We hired a painter from Thumbtack—they ruined our floors by trying to clean up paint they spilled with a scouring pad! They also spattered paint on the carpet. We filed a claim via their "ironclad guarantee" and submitted all documentation, yet they're saying they didn't get it and I have proof of submission. They can also review the chat between me and the contractor where he admits they messed up the floor. We hired the painter based on their guarantee, which they refuse to honor. Will never use Thumbtack again!
Hi Pam, we're sorry to learn about the outcome of your project, this is disappointing to hear. It sounds like you're in communication with our Trust and Safety Team. It's important to us that the service provider is held accountable for these concerns and that we're able to help you move forward from this experience. Please continue communicating with them via email and phone, they'll help you troubleshoot any issues with the Ironclad document exchange that you have.
I hired shine depot to deep clean my house. Marcia and lu did an excelent job. They went above and beyond tto clean even hard areas to reach. I am now using them on a regular basis. I DEFINETLY RECOMEND SHINE DEPOT. Rick in summerfield
We're so happy to hear this, sounds like you had a great experience! Thanks for taking the time to leave a 5 star review and recommendation. We hope you'll continue to utilize Thumbtack for future projects.
This company is a complete scam based out of India so you can't file a lawsuit even if you wanted to. They send out fake leads costing small businesses hundreds weekly from bots that never even read your response or respond themselves.
Hi Kevin, we're sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience. Thumbtack is based in the United States, and it's important to us that pros receive quality leads and interested customers. If you ever have concerns about the legitimacy of a lead, please report them to us here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern so that we can look further into it. Please reach out to us directly if there's anything we can do to help.
Worst company that I have dealt with, the salesman who tried to sign me up for the program was only worried about getting my money. Did not go over the agreement or refund policy. After I paid and decided not to use thumbtack due to bad reviews including one from a colleague of mine who tried this service, they neglected to talk give me a refund for my $300. I finally received a phone call from supervisor Emily who would not provide me with her ID number or any information other than her first name. She was not interested in solving my issue just interested and telling me it was non refundable. I asked for proof that they advised me that this package was non refundable and they lied and said they didn't record calls. Then the supervisor said they don't provide calls. This shows exactly why so many people are unhappy with this service. I am going to pursue legal action against this company. Do not sign up for this service if they do not read the contract out and advised you in advance about their policies.
We're sorry to see you go, Nathaniel, and wish that we could turn your experience around. These packages are non-refundable, however we'd be happy to follow up and provide personalized support so that you're successful and winning leads on the platform. We don't share recordings due to our Privacy Policy, please respond to any of our email communication for more information or questions about this. We want to wish you well as you move forward.
I contacted them because I recently tried to get some work done through their app. I contacted a company called Bluefiks and received an insane 1799 quote for something they quoted they could do for 999 a few months earlier. After I said no to their 1799, I got a quote of 999 from a sub-contractor that works for Bluefiks. How can the same job, done by the same person cost 800 more? If the sub-contractor can do it for 999 then bluefiks shouldn't be allowed to charge 1799 considering it's being done by the same people. If they want to give other people business then that extra money should come out of the sub-contractors end, not added onto the customers bill. After I learned what they were doing I left bad reviews on everyones pages. After I did that, I get a message from the onwer of Bluefiks saying that thumbtack will just remove my review since I didn't use them. I replied back with well google and yelp won't remove them :). A few minutes after i sent that message I get a text message from the Owner of Bluefiks Mani with just my home address, which I have no memory of giving them. I come from a place where something like that is a threat. He is trying to say I know where you live. Why else would he do it? I sent tons of text back and I got 0 replies. His phone was turned off and hasn't been on since.
I contacted thumbtack in hopes they would do something, but all they say is they will contact Mani to investigate. Even though I sent them a picture of the text message as proof. They don't care about me, they only care about making money and he is one of their top pros. Meanwhile, he is continuing to make money through their app while I have a frightened family at home.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention and making us aware of your experience. We're sorry to hear about your interaction with this pro, that's discouraging and not the type of experience we want customers to have on the platform. It sounds like you were in touch with our Trust and Safety Team about these concerns, we're glad you reported it. As for reviews, we do allow and encourage customers to leave reviews based on their experience with each pro, regardless of whether or not the project was completed, you can learn more about our Content and Review Policy here: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/content-and-review-policy. Was quoted $40 hour to put together a book case and printer stand. I knew there was a minimum of 3hours. When billed after he slowly put his abundant amount of tools slowly back into his car and said his prayers, he charged me for 6 hours because he drove 2 hours. I could have put both of them together in 2 hours or less and I am a senior citizen. So I was billed $40X6 hours $240 plus another $128.88 for I do not even know what. It was total of $368,88 to put together 2 pieces of furniture I bought for $270.
This information is concerning to us, we're really sorry to hear pricing wasn't fully discussed and agreed upon ahead of stating your project. If you're still seeking a resolution, please reach out to us here so that our team can assist you: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern.
I recently used Thumbtack to hire a local moving company. Two vendors responded.
The first quoted me a rate that was $25/hr higher than what they advertised on Thumbtack. I asked; they explained that the extra $25 was "for the truck". "The truck" also carried a previously undisclosed $1/mile rate.
So I went with the other vendor, who seemed like a straight shooter and quoted a flat rate for the job, which was moving the contents of a 10x8' cubicle into storage.
First, the mover didn't understand Google Maps, and ended up on the other side of town, even though my address is easy to find on Google. Even with me on the phone, it took a total of 40 minutes, and overshooting the location twice, before he arrived.
That's when I learned that he wasn't really a mover. He was driving a pickup towing a trailer, both of which were half full of junk. Apparently, his specialty was clearing construction sites and hauling junk to the dump, but he decided to take on this "mover" gig - with an open mesh trailer and a total of 3 moving blankets.
A job that two professional movers and a real truck could have done in under 2 hours ended up taking 5 hours and my help loading and unloading.
I will never again trust Thumbtack as a gig resource.
Hi Leo, we're sorry to hear about your experience. We know that moving projects can be stressful already, this sounds frustrating. We hope that your project was completed, although we'd be happy to gather additional feedback and look further into this. Please provide more details and your contact information here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. We hope to hear from you soon.
This is an updated review. Coco does great work. I thought I was missing some stuff, and she was kind enough to come over and show me where everything was.
Thanks for sharing these updates, Debbie. We're really happy to hear that you reconnected with this pro and everything was sorted out!
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
Answer: We like that you're expanding your options, Rebecca. Thumbtack is a local services marketplace that connects customers with the right professionals for anything they need done.
