This seems to be a collection of seedy, uninsured and unprofessional business people.
The one person I hired to do my driveway cut corners and lied to me. Doing a sub standard job.
The painter I contacted through this service seemed to just be some guy that painted on the side.
None of the contractors I contacted had a website or anything to reccomend or warn against except THUMBTACK.
Find your own contractors would be my suggestion. THUMBTACK seems to be a collection of hacks
My name is Lisa and I have gotten a little bit of trouble. And I found Michael on the internet with Ashley Law Group professional and hard-working took my case very seriously at all times with care and heart I would suggest anybody if you need a good lawyer he's the one to call he'll take care of your needs and do it professionally with a heart thank you Michael you changed my life
We're so happy to hear you found exactly what you were looking for through Thumbtack. Thanks for taking the time to share your story, Lisa, we appreciate it. Be sure to leave this pro a review on the platform if you haven't already: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/review-a-pro.
I'm a pro and if you're considering being a Pro on this site. Don't do it. Save yourself money and aggravation of scammers on this site with no untent of hiring you but want your personal info. And the all the money you pay for direct leads that never pan out nor do they ever respond or read your email. Then when you ask for a refund from thumbtack they respond that it meet their guidelines for a refund. I believe most of these leads are generated bots by thumbtack to charge your account. I've been using this site for 6 month have responded to 12 lead and have 1 job from this site. I'm losing money because these leads are expensive. Trust me. STAY AWAY!
We're sorry to hear you didn't find the platform helpful to your business, that's disappointing to hear for us. If you have questions about what qualifies for a refund, check out our full Refund Policy here: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/refund-policy. We work hard to ensure leads are legitimate, but if you come across something concerning, please report it to our team: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. If you change your mind, we have specialists that can help improve your profile and better set you up for success on the platform, just contact us directly. We want to wish you well moving forward.
Thumbtack should be shut down for stealing money from trusting customers. They sell fake/bot leads and charge insane amounts of money for jobs that aren't worth the time. This way of "doing business" has become a regular thing for companies like THUMBTACK, BARK, WEDDINGWIRE/WEDDING PRO etc. I have been shooting weddings for 10 years and these "services" are trash that offer little to no value. In 2021, I shot over 50 weddings, engagements, and other photo/video jobs. 2 out of 50 (4%) came from these guys. The amount of money spent for leads and "ads" vs money made for those two jobs didn't even zero out. I deleted Thumbtack a few months ago and this month, was charged $35 for a lead. My account isn't even active anymore. I have deleted everything, deleted my credit card and blocked them from my email and am still being charged. We have reported them to Visa. If you are a pro, this is not the place. If you are a beginner, trying to build your portfolio, this is also not the place. Huge waste of time and money.
Hi Levi, we appreciate you taking the time to share detailed feedback about your experience on Thumbtack, and other sites, as a pro. We're sorry to hear that the platform didn't work for your business, and want to wish you well as you move forward. You shouldn't receive any charges for leads, after your account's been deactivated, if you haven't been assisted with this yet, please send us an email to [email protected] or a direct message via social media for quick response.
They will send you "leads" that don't go anywhere and not refund your money. Even if a customer read your message and does not respond they will not refund you as they say they will. They are sending your information to four other contractors. They will charge for new system installations which is a $75 lead when people are simply looking for a maintenance. They are terrible and we will no longer be using their service
Hi Jeren, we're sorry to hear you had this experience as a pro. You can learn more about our full Refund Policy and the leads that are eligible for refunds here: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/refund-policy. If you have other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to send us a direct message via social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter).
There is no one in customer service or even a real person to talk with at all. The so called corporate number in San Fransisco is simply a ecommerce address with a voicemail that suggests to text if you have a problem. This text messaging is just a standard reply nothing substantail. I had to do 5 free shoots a month to pay for their fake leads. So I was just working to pay these criminals and spinning my wheels. They simply do not care about small buisness at all. Its all about pure greed. It took me two years of continued investment to get my reviews up and in the end it was all for nothing. Thousands and thousands of dollars. Do NOT trust them or invest any money into them. They took complete advantage of small businesses trying to bounce back from COVID. I think everyone of us should get together and file a class action lawsuit. I personally am filing a report to the FBI.
Hi Tamera, we're sorry to hear this feedback. It's disappointing to us that you didn't have a good experience. Our phone support service is currently for our Top Pros. We're happy to assist you by texting 415-299-6398 Monday through Friday 6am to 6pm, MST. You can also email us at [email protected], or send us a direct message via social media. We want to wish you well moving forward.
I used this site because I thought it was legit. The contractor had no clue what he was doing and bailed. Now I'm out my deposit. I wrote a review and it was taken down. You guys take down all the real reviews and keep fake ones up to make you look better. Your just as bad as the contractor you allow on. Taulant isn't even the owner. This is his 3rd license using a different company name
The information you shared is very concerning to us and we'd like to help you receive a resolution and move forward from these concerns. If you haven't already, please complete this form with more information about your experience and your contact information so that our Trust and Safety Team can reach out to you directly: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern.
Customer service is virtually non-existent, prices are highly inflated, and your time and money spent with Thumbtack.com is ultimately wasted. This company lacks integrity. Just one example: If a competitor contacts you to find out what your prices are, you instantly get charged a lead fee which can be $10 or higher. Thumbtack should be rubbed off the map and banned by search engines.
We're sorry to hear you feel that way about your experience on Thumbtack. We will pass along your feedback about lead pricing to our team. We want to wish you the best of luck as you move forward.
I booked a bi-weekly housekeeping service on Thumbtack, after reviewing the candidates that Thumbtack provided. The cost was $109, which Thumbtack took out immediately. We received an email and a text, confirming the housekeeper for Friday, April 22,2022 at 10:00 a.m. I stayed home from work to meet the housekeeper, since it was her first time. The housekeeper didn't call, didn't show, didn't text - no communication at all. I contacted Thumbtack immediately and was told that they were simply a 'leads-selling' business, and that they were keeping the money to apply to my Thumbtack account, because although the lead was no good, they did in fact, provide the lead. This is not the service that Thumbtack advertises. I paid for a service, the service was not performed, and even worse, there was no notification that the service was not going to be performed. The housekeeper did get back with me three days later, apologizing, but confirmed that Thumbtack kept the money, not her. I have used other services such as Anji's list and had great experiences. I will never use Thumbtack again, which means that I will not be able to recoup the $109. I am reporting them to Consumer Affairs, the Better Business Bureau, and providing this review to as many customer review websites as possible. WORD OF CAUTION - DO NOT USE THUMBTACK. They are thieves.
Hi Veronica, we're really sorry to hear that your project didn't work out and that you didn't receive the support you needed from our team, that's disappointing. While we are a third party in the hiring process, we want to make sure all consumer concerns have been resolved in the event that things don't go as planned. Please send us a direct message via social media (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) so that we can locate your case and look further into this for you.
Hired a house keeper and it started off really good. Then I had a stroke and she started walking out with things. Things like my sons football equipment, pressure cookers, knife sets, steam mop, pots and pans LV backpack, and my LV purse. Filed a police report and reported it to thumbtack and they didn't care. Amanda Rainey is the house keeper.
Hi Vanessa, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We're very sorry to hear about your experience, we want to help you move forward. We weren't able to locate an open case you might have with our team based on this information, if you haven't already completed a formal report to our Trust and Safety Team, please follow this link: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. We don't tolerate this type of behavior on the platform and want to ensure appropriate actions were taken. If you have followed that link already and have questions or concerns about your case, please send us a DM via social media so that we can look into this for you.
I have never been treated so poorly as a contractor in 20 yrs of my work! I had a 5 star profile with 12 reviews total! Thumbtack also explained that I'd have their top support staff helping me along the way to better assist me! I had a nonnegative comments! All were 5 star but 3 of them were 4, all were very good reviews and this is from my heart! I put my heart in my business and my work! It show's! I had a nasty homeowner rip me off and gave me a 1 star and said things thst i would never do in a million yrs and if I did, I'd have a history of it! But I don't have a history of it and thumbtack thought it would professional to allow this review to stay on my profile while it was a flat out lie and even makes thumbtack look bad! But, their support team is uneducated in marketing and customer relations! They said it will show my professionalism to allow me to show how I handle the situation! But this is nothing anybody wants, is a person lying and staying these horrific things and to just treat me like I'm some sign at run down gas station with graffiti on it! This is not professional support! They can't even explain in detail how they make their decision because I believe the support staff is ran by the owner and he is nothing close to professional, whom ever this person or people may be! I got hired every 3 out of 5 jobs and this is the review I have for them! This is very telling for anybody who cares about their reputation! Thumbtack will try to destroy it! They also sold me $50 pack of leads worth $300 but they were old leads and I'm not the only contractor with this type of story about thumbtack! I gave their support team criticism and got kicked off site! So this tells me they can't deal with being treated the same way, they treat others! Pathetic!
We're sorry to hear about your experience on Thumbtack. We have a strict Content and Review Policy that you can review here: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/content-and-review-policy. It's important to us that we maintain and protect the integrity of the platform, that's why we don't edit or alter consumer's reviews. If a review violates the policy we shared above, it will be reviewed and removed by our team. Your customers have the opportunity to edit their review once, if the experience has changed or you two have worked together to sort out any miscommunications or less than great experiences. We appreciate you sharing feedback about this policy and your experience. If you have outstanding questions about your account status, please reach out to us directly so that we may look further into this for you.
These people are hard to work with if you are a Pro. You cannot speak to anyone and refunds for bad leads are very hard to get. Even if it goes along their refund policy they will tell you no and then cut you off.
We're sorry to hear you haven't had a good experience, Lisa. To submit refunds, we ask that pros follow these steps: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/how-to-request-a-refund. If you have questions or concerns about requested refunds or our Policy, you can reach us by texting 415-299-6398 Monday through Friday 6am to 6pm, MST. Our email address is [email protected], or you can send us a direct message on social media.
I would not recommend Thumbtack. I had a horrible experience with a "pretend" pro named Lexus Mathew's doing business $#*! Famya Divine. She was kicked off of on Thumbtack for not honoring her contract. She's also on Etsy, Instagram and other social media sites pretending to be a Muralist, she accepted the money and never did the job because she is inexperienced. Thumbtack got involved but not helpful. They say they vet all of their pros but they do not- these people are not really pros, Thumbtack only do a criminal background and hire anyone who passes. Thumbtack is only a marketing platform and they do not hire really eat these folks, meaning they do not have the real skilled people and anyone can use this platform. I had to file a "theft by taken" warrant on the pro. Please don't believe anything that the marketing teams says or responds to about my truth. They have done very little to help me in this case and the platform should be canceled. There's no manager, this is a platform where you hope and pray things will be right.
Thanks for working with our Trust and Safety Team on this, we're really sorry to hear about your project. We were able to locate your case, and it looks like there's been some updates since you initially shared this review. We can confirm that you were issued reimbursement from Thumbtack, as the pro failed to provide a resolution. We understand this doesn't change your experience, but we hope you'll be able to use the reimbursement to move forward and get your project completed. If you still have outstanding questions or concerns, please respond to our team's email from May 10th. We also recommend you review our Safety Page for helpful tips during the hiring process: https://www.thumbtack.com/safety/.
AS A PROSAY NO! NOT WORTH THE MONEY! I would be sent leads that didn't fit my profile, leads that were outside of my scope of practice, leads that wouldn't be a match AND HAD TO PAY FOR THEM! So I was being charged anywhere from $20 to $75 per lead, over and over again. Money was flying out of my pocket! I actually feel scammed. As a Professional Life Coach, I had no ability to choose my clients. How can this possibly be ethical? Very disappointed and have lost quite a bit of money.
Hi Allison, we just responded to your same review on a different platform. We'd like to get in touch and see what we can do to help, as well as collect any additional feedback you might have from your time on Thumbtack. Please send us a DM on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) or email us at: [email protected].
I had someone submit a FAKE request, with a fake phone number and had to pay for this lead! The number was fake, and the person was from another pro company and after they submitted the request they could then write a FAKE review and thumbtack clearly sees that the information they entered is all fake but yet they do not want to remove the request, review and will not refund me what i paid! They are thieves!
Hi Hannah, we're sorry to hear about your experience. Maintaining and protecting the integrity of the site, and customer leads, is very important to us. We'd be glad to look over the lead, review, and refund request you mentioned. Please send us a direct message on social media for direct assistance.
I decided to use Thumbtack to hire a painting contractor specifically because of their guarantee. However, after the painter lead me to believe that he was going to use high-quality Benjamin Moore paint to complete the project, he actually used cheap Valspar paint and ended up causing $3,400 in damages to my kitchen cabinets. I reached out to Thumbtack and, basically, if the contractor is willing to provide ANY solution, even an unsatisfactory one, Thumbtack washes their hands of the issue and says you don't qualify for the Thumbtack Guarantee reimbursement. In my case, the contractor is only willing to refund me $600 towards the $3,400 in damages, leaving me with $2,800 to pay out of pocket and Thumbtack won't do a thing about it.
Consumers beware. If you think that Thumbtack will help protect you from being taken advantage of by their contractors, they absolutely will not.
We're sorry to hear your project didn't go as planned. We appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention, we were able to locate your case with our Trust and Safety Team. We can see that you're still communicating with your assigned specialist, and working through an alternative resolution. We expect pros to provide resolutions in these situations, as we don't directly employ them, however our Guarantee is in place for instances where a pro is unresponsive or unwilling to resolve. We'd encourage you to continue working with our team so that we can help you both reach a mutually appropriate resolution.
Avoid them like the plague. If you change services, they make it so difficult to see old info. Next thing get charged for a service you don't provide any more. They will do anything to con people into paying. Poor quality leads, non related, in other States! Bunch of crooks!
We're sorry to hear you haven't had a positive experience. You're always welcome to update your services and preferences, this Help Center article should prove helpful if you have questions about this process: https://help.thumbtack.com/pros/topic-targeting-preferences-lh-pro.
Horrible customer service. They treat the Pros who use their service like crap!
I do not recommend using this platform.
We're sorry to hear your feedback, and that you weren't provided the support you were looking for. We understand if you're moving forward with your business, but if you have outstanding concerns please send us a DM on social media so that we can follow up quickly.
I used Thumbtack a couple years ago and they kept charging me despite pausing the leads so I deleted the account.
I opened up a new business and decided to give it a shot again. Created a new account for the new business, paid a deposit to generate leads, and called it a day.
The next morning I went to login and my account was deactivated by thumbtack. I reached out to support and all they could tell me was that my account was deactivated for "violating terms of use." I read through the terms and found nothing that I could have violated in the 6 hours the account had been active. Now they are refusing to refund my money. Absolute scum. Stay far away.
We're sorry to hear this, that's a frustrating experience. While we don't have enough information from this review to locate your account, we want to look further into this for you. Please either send us a DM via social media, or email our team: [email protected], so that we can help.
Thumbtack pro brought me a lot of customers but I waste a lot of money on "fake " leads. Customers are not aware that if they
Contacted pro, that pro will pay for the
Lead. And tell me how it's possible that
Someone contacting you for service, and
I am responding in 1 minute and nobody
Ever responds. Did they change their
Mind? Could be. But they never even
Reply. Message usually marked as Read
Which is to mean that you have to pay
For this leads
There is a phone number of these
Customers, but they never respond on
Message either.
So I have to pay for this fake leads or for
Customers who don't know what they
Want (because they are contacting 5
Pros at the same time) $15-30. Which is
Not fair at all.
Thumbtack never return money for this
Suspicious leads
We appreciate you taking the time to share feedback. We're always working to make the platform a place where all pros can achieve success. We will pass along your feedback about pricing to the right team. If you have any outstanding concerns that we can help with, please reach out to us directly.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
Answer: We like that you're expanding your options, Rebecca. Thumbtack is a local services marketplace that connects customers with the right professionals for anything they need done.
