This site is very expensive for contractors. The least could cost over hundred dollar. This site is out of control. It is hard for contractors to live like this. So where you have a contractor come see your project know weather they get the job or not they are paying for the lead. So if you hit up 3 contractor everyone of them has to pay for it. I have attached a photo of what contractor have to pay. That job is for 2 square of side walk. So people who are wanting service be aware contractors pay.
Thumbtack steals small amounts of money by sending worthless leads that they call "exact matches" even though they are anything but (a request for $150 wedding photography disguised as a request for nature photography) and by creating a system that groups vastly differently priced services together. The later resulting in you paying for worthless leads with no budget seeking your most expensive service because it's lumped in with inexpensive services in order for Thumbtack to take as much money from you as possible.
Because they only charge you small amounts of money and refuse to refund you most business owners will feel duped but not be able to do anything. These amounts are too small to spend time in small claims court for when you're busy running your business. This, in my opinion, is part of their plan to defraud and steal from as many small businesses as possible. That's just not right and I want to put an end to it.
I'm looking for others who have been defrauded by Thumbtack and who would like to initial a class action lawsuit. The goals of this would be for all of us who've been victims of Thumbtack.com to be paid back the money they stole from us and to see that they are either shut down or drastically change their business model. If you're interested please reach out to me through my website. Also please call the district attorney's office in San Francisco and report Thumbtack as thieves.
My name is Don Orkoskey, I'm the owner of WDO Photography located in Pittsburgh, PA. I signed up for Thumbtack as I assume many of you did, to increase my business and because they dominate search results. While clients I've talked to say they find thumbtack sleazy and deceptive and avoid using them being listed on their site does improve your SEO. What I found is that the amount of money they will steal from you does not make it in any way worth it.
Hi Don, thanks for taking the time to share your experience. It's important to us that we help business owners find quality leads and showcase their hard work on Thumbtack, we're sorry to hear that the platform didn't work for your business. We do offer refunds for leads that don't work out for several different reasons, you can review our full Refund Policy here: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/how-to-request-a-refund. It sounds like you might've already worked with a specialist from our support team, but if there's anything we can do to turn around your experience, please send us a direct message via social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) or an email to [email protected] so that we can get in touch with you directly. We work hard to ensure the leads on Thumbtack are legitimate, if you come across a suspicious lead or you're concerned about the legitimacy of a lead, please always let us know here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. We want to wish you well as you move forward and hope that through implemented feedback and improvements, we can improve your experience as well.
The main issue with Thumbtack is that it makes you sign up for a "generous" spending plan each week. Once your credits are up because people even accidentally clicked on your profile (and yes, be ready to spend $25-40 on a lead) your profile disappears from the site. The lead that contacted me cost me $23 and then it turned out the budget for the job was about 1/4th of what I charge. When Ireached out to Thumbtack after numerous calls on multiple days I received a message: "thumbtack is training employees and there's no one to answer the call, goodbye". I was trying to get my "one time courtesy refund" This place is pathetic and I gotta say I am in better place with bark.com now. At Bark I would purchase credits and use them only when I wish.
Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback, we're sorry to see you go. Lead pricing varies depending on size of the job, location, type, etc. If you receive leads that didn't intend to communicate with you, please submit refund requests here: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/how-to-request-a-refund. You're always welcome to email [email protected] with questions about pricing, refunds, leads, or the platform in general. If there's anything we can do to turn around your experience, please let us know.
Rooter Town can out after I saw a $95 special advertised. Long story short, I was told I need to replace the sewer drain and install a "Liner" to prevent the tree roots from invading the sewer pipe a cost of over $15,000. They can in and just started digging and tw up my sprinkler system. Levi stated he would refund $600 to repair the system and the refund was made only after numerous calls and emails. I was told that the inital cost of $340 would be applied to the total cost of the job and they have yet to honor that. My total bill was not adjusted for the initial $340 I paid. So if you want to save yourself a HUGE headache run as fast as you can from Rooter Town!
That's disappointing to hear Christine, we definitely want to help. If you haven't already, please report your concerns to us here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. Our Trust and Safety Team will reach out to you directly and work with both parties toward a resolution.
Thumbtack allows felons on there sites. They also allow people that are not licensed to be on there site. They pick and choose who they want. If you are a homeowner DO NOT USE THEM. GO TO SOMEONE MORE IN LINE WITH YIUR NEEDS SUCH AS NETWORX. OR PORCH. Thumbtack is scum and the people who work there are the same
Hi Scott, we're sorry to hear that this was your experience. It sounds like you have outstanding concerns with a pro you hired, please report what happened here so that we can help: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. Upon signing up on the platform, all pros agree to be appropriately licensed within their state and local guidelines. While not all type of jobs require similar licensing, all relevant credentials will be displayed on a pro's profile. We encourage customers to review our Safety Tips during the hiring process: https://www.thumbtack.com/safety/. Background check badges are also visible on pro profiles, if you have concerning information to share about a user, we want to know so that we can look further into this and take appropriate action.
I have been on there now for 10 years. They are helpful and have asked feedback often from me. Not inexpensive but I have found it mostly profitable. Consistency is key on this site. To build your clients.
We're so glad to hear that! We love to hear success stories like yours. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your positive experience and feedback with our team.
They provide no recourse when customers don't pay. Customer Service is impossible to reach. There is no penalty whatsoever for customers abusing the platform. They aggressively push customers to contact more pros and customers have no idea they are incurring fees to pros.
Thank you for notifying us of a recent experience you've had. We don't tolerate this type of behavior on the platform and definitely want to take appropriate action, as well as help you reach a resolution. Please provide more details here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern and our Trust and Safety Team will reach out to you directly to help.
I can't review all the people on this site but they need to monitor what their repair people do.
The repair person asked for cash when he came out so I paid him in cash. He said he would install the new part when it came in but didn't come when I was told he would and than sent me a text for more cash if he came out. A terrible experience with the person that came to my house.
Hi Michael, that's concerning to us. Please share more details and your contact information here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern so that our Trust and Safety Team can look further into this and help.
Do not use this site. I learned the hard way that any old company or person can sign up to be on Thumbtack. There is no real vetting. After my experience, I'm starting to think this site is a total scam.
I had an issue where I posted a review for Company A, but it was actually Company B that came to my house. Because my partner and I both were working to find a contractor, there was some confusion and I left a review for the wrong company. Whoops. Easy to fix? Wrong. I could not delete or edit my own review. Really? That's certainly inconvenient. So I emailed them with the error.
I've dealt with two customer service reps (one supervisor named Jeff) that have told me that due to their "integrity" they cannot remove the review. As I said to them, what kind of integrity is it to leave up a review for a company it doesn't belong to? This is false and untrue and should certainly be removed.
What made it worse was the condescending form letter. It's as if no one is listening or cares. Thumbtack has absolutely NO integrity, in my mind.
I will be deleting my account and not using them. I hope you choose to do the same. Who knows how many bs reviews there are due to the fact that one can go on there seeking revenge or otherwise and just making something up about a company they did not use.
Hi Meghan, thank you for bringing your experience to our attention. We'd like to look further into your review dispute and help. We also want to address the concerns you mentioned about the legitimacy of reviews and the way our Content and Review Policy works, which you can review in full here: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/content-and-review-policy. Consumers are only able to leave reviews for pros if the pro shared their external review link, for past jobs, or if you've worked with them on a project and interacted within the messenger. In order to maintain trust on our site, Thumbtack doesn't edit, change, or delete reviews that comply with our Content Policy. Thumbtack consumers can add one update to each review, instructions for that are here: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/update-review. You're welcome to send us a direct message via social media, so that our team can look into this for you and ensure you're getting the support you need. We hope to hear from you soon.
I have used Thumbtak and what I have found is that they are a vehicle for start up vendors that often (or on my cases) go out of business when the project does not work out. In two cases Thumbtak's resolution team stated that "there is nothing that they could do as the vendor is out of business". In one case a nursery (Blue Print Landscaping) planted the wrong trees (I paid for Pear Trees and they planted Maple) of which I paid more than $2,000 for and in the other case a vendor/electrician broke one of my exterior $500 cameras and said they would pay for it and they too went out of business and Thumbtak only offers their condolences. Go to Angie's List. Some how I thought Thumbtack was reputable and they are not.
Hi Ellen, we're sorry to hear about these projects, that's very disappointing. It sounds like you worked with our Trust and Safety Team, however there wasn't a resolution. When action is taken against a pro's account, for instance resulting in removal, we may still have options in place to help you step forward from these concerns in a better way. Please send us a direct message via social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) so that we can look further into this for you and ensure you're getting the support you need.
Bad experiences always with Thumbtack contractors
More than $3000 for 3 rooms in tiny condo! Would not have minded if they did a good job (Painting by Don, Traverse City, MI
Hi Angus, please report your concerns here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. Our Trust and Safety Team will review your report and follow up with you directly within 2-3 business days, to help you receive a resolution.
Never heard of Thumbtack until 5 bogus charges by them appeared on my. Debit & credit cards. I reported the fraud to my bank & cancelled the cards. I've sent Thumbtack 6 text messages inquiring about these fraudulent charges and have vet to receive a response. Crooks.

I would have been more Satisfied had I thrown $300 out the window! At least there would have been a slight possibility that the $$$ would have gone to a Deserving person.

These people took $60 out of my account for noooo reason and would not give me a refund back. What they do is charge your personal card everytime someone tries to contact you about a job no matter if you have used the app or not they will take money out of your account DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT put in any of your personal account cause they will attack your account and leave you with nothing. This is a horrible horrible company and the person who came up with this is a fake and a fraud. He is getting rich off of taking people money who is trying to make a living. Im pretty sure his pockets are fat while the rest of us are being attacked by his company. No manager will speak with me only their customer service so what does that tell you. Do not use this app this is a pile of $#*! company do not trust them in any way please believe me i will not lie to you. If you need to use the TASK RABBIT APP for professionals and TASKER for people who need work done they will not take anything out of your account only put in what you make they are very easy to communicate with amd will not mess over you or anyone else. I REPEAT DO NOT USE THUMBTACK FOR ANY REASON OTHER THAN TO GET $#*!ED OVER NO GREASE SERIOUSLY I AM TRYING TO WARN EVERYONE I CAN BEFORE YOU HAVE A EXPERIENCE LIKE MINE OR MANY OTHERS JUST CHECK OUT HOW MANY BAAAAD REVIEWS THEY HAVE
We're really sorry to hear this feedback. It sounds like there might've been a misunderstanding about when you're charged for leads upon signing up. While some lead generating platforms charge a subscription or sign up fee, Thumbtack doesn't, we charge per lead. If you have targeting on, you'll receive automatic leads, but you can set your budget up so that you don't exceed the limit you've allocated for spending on leads. You can learn more about when you're charged and different lead types here: https://help.thumbtack.com/pros/topic-cost-and-payments-lh-pro/subtopic-how-to-pay-for-leads-pro. We understand you're moving forward, and we're sorry to hear that the platform didn't work for you and your business. If you have any outstanding questions about the charges you mentioned, or your account, please send us a direct message on social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) for a quick response.
As a business owner, this service is crap. Their system is full of flaws, which cause them to charge you mistakenly; they say that you can appeal it - but in the appeal they either don't have a living being review it, or this being doesn't speak English. I wish I read the online reviews on many other websites for them before I paid stupidly a bunch of $$$ for leads that never arrived.
More than that: as a photographer, almost all the jobs offered around here are of super super cheap clients, eg - want a WEDDING photographer for LESS than $200-250.
Hi Rami, we're sorry to learn of your experience on the platform this way. You're welcome to review our Refund Policy: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/refund-policy, as we do issue refunds in these instances that are listed. We appreciate you taking the time to share feedback and want to wish you well as you move forward.
I wrote a review for one of their professionals and then had a conversation about it with the person. We decided that I would just remove the review as I didn't feel like I could leave it in good faith based on the situation that happened. I reached out to their support team and they refused to remove it unless it violated their policies. It seems pretty messed up that they refused to remove it. I am pretty flabbergasted.
We only remove reviews if they violate our Content and Review Policy, in an effort to maintain the integrity of the platform. You can review our full Policy here: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/content-and-review-policy. You're always welcome to update your review once by following these steps: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/update-review.
Garbage leads. Pay upfront and can't get any money back. Support sucks. 2+ week response time. They imported my google reviews, but only 10. I have 200+ reviews with a 4.65 rating on google. Now I start out on thumbtack with a very poor rating as they pulled most of the 10 from the 1 user ratings. Leads are garbage. I thought Angi leads were bad, try these guys when you feel like donating money. Really wished I would have googled them before I tried them out. Out $400 and can't get it back!
Hi Kent, we're sorry to hear you didn't find the right leads for your business through the platform. Our support team responds to emails within 1-2 business days, and you can text us at 415-299-6398 Monday through Friday 6am to 6pm, MST. As for reviews, your profile can show up to 10 reviews from customers you met outside of Thumbtack. If there's anything we can do to turn your experience around, please get in touch with us directly so we may best assist you.
I was told they only speak to gold and platinum members on the phone. In other words I'm not important because I don't spend that kind of money that golden platinum members do. However they also allow people to write reviews based on lies and unfounded information. Tried to provide proof that the review was false and they still refuse to remove the bad review. I am very highly rated and reviewed, I rarely get any bad reviews if any at all. Not to mention that I feel like I'm texting with a robot instead of a real person. They also charge multiple pros for the same leads. They'll give the same leads to different pros and charge them almost $13 for each lead. If hindsight Was 2020 I would have gone with Angie's list since I have so many great reviews on Thumbtack I didn't want to
Switch. But I'm working on switching now and having my clients review me on Angie's list. Once I do that I will shut down my Thumbtack account. Don't sign up with them whatever you do! Now let's see how they feel about getting a bad review and nothing they can do about it!
Hi Denise, we're sorry to see you go, and that you didn't receive the support you were looking for. Our phone support service is currently for our Top Pros. We're happy to assist you by texting 415-299-6398 Monday through Friday 6am to 6pm, MST, you're always welcome to email us at: [email protected]. We very rarely remove reviews, only if they violate our Content and Review Policy: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/content-and-review-policy. Protecting and maintaining the integrity of the platform is important to us, and we value feedback. If there's anything we can do to change your mind, please reach out to us directly.
I called them to schedule an appointment and they walked me through how to give ot over the phone
I am never going to call anyone else to service my appliances. Theses guys ate number one in my book. I will tell all my friends and family about them. If you need something worked on definitely give A-Tech Repair Inc. a call.
It's great to hear you hired an excellent pro! Be sure to review this pro on Thumbtack too: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/review-a-pro. We look forward to helping you with your next project.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
Answer: We like that you're expanding your options, Rebecca. Thumbtack is a local services marketplace that connects customers with the right professionals for anything they need done.
