Horrible!
- prices fluctuate significantly (items i had in the cart got significantly more expensive when left there for a few hours).
- items not as described
- customer service poor - i was told to return a item for a 'full refund' (when not as described) even though i live overseas & the shipping cost makes it an impossibility. I'm appalled that any thinking person would even suggest it!
When offered a refund for a book that was not at all as described, i was offered 15%(?) - practically EVERY decent seller/site is fine to take full responsibility & compensate with a FULL refund without the joke of 'returning the item'
- items arrive late (so their delivery estimates even during the covid situation are STILL inaccurate/flawed, but as a CUSTOMER, you're expected to be understanding & supportive of THEM(?)
Not impressed at all & would NOT recommend to ANYONE.
Want a better option? Go with powells books - their customer service standards are MUCH better as are the conditions of their books (which are nearly always BETTER than what they're listed as).
99% of the books that I've bought from this website are in mint condition and I buy from the "acceptable" section
Sells books they don't have buyer beware I tried to buy Scooby Doo essential guild instead sent me a different book lol on them I ain't stupid
(#*******)I ordered 2 books on the thriftbook with very good conditions. But that 2 books come with acceptable conditions. The outer layer of the book peels off. So the glue is useless. The other book, even the folds of the opening are torn apart so I need to glue it too. The edges are torn everywhere. Have also contacted customer service via the web thrifbooks. But ignored.
I am usually very busy and hardly find time to write the review. It happened five month ago. I brought about 6 books for my novel class a week before my class started, but I did not get my book on my first-day class. Finding out I did not forgetting my apartment number on my address. When I emailed to tell them, they resent these books to me without any more charge and return some money for me for my fault.
I had an item that was routinely needed on Sundays, I ordered it from thriftbooks. After it was two weeks late, I emailed support to find out why I didn't have my item.
Do to a stocking issue, they refunded me my payment weeks ago. They did not update my order on their page, they did not email me. I was waiting for something they had decided to never send.
Customer service ignored me when I asked if I could get the 2day shipping free to make up for it. Now I still don't have an item that I need again tonight.
They don't take care of their customers. Trusting them hurt my business, they are completely misleading.
They also spam your email inbox with offers. The unsubscribe button doesn't work.
I have been ordering books from Thriftbooks.com for several years now, and up until recently I just raved about the place to anyone who would listen- I even planned on buying gift cards for Christmas this year for friends and family who are readers and don't need 'new' to be thrilled with books. I really loved this site. And then... I ordered books that took 3 weeks to show up but only after I complained. They sent out a replacement order, I received 2 of the 4 books, one of which was in awful shape. I had ordered some more books thinking it had to be a fluke, a one time thing. Wrong. I still haven't received them. When I check tracking, it says, "Moving within the USPS System"... I have no clue where. Or when I'll get them, or IF I'll get them. However, no more ordering from this company. No gift cards for everyone. No bragging on how awesome they are anymore, because they aren't. If they changed their mailing parameters, or something? They need to change it back. My guess is, they did like so many companies do and changed things to make more money. Ah well, like a bad relationship it's time for me to move on. I won't use them again. Sad. I really did like them.
I've gotten some orders from here and was satisfied. My last order never arrived and customer service told me that there was a mix-up because someone else had bought the book before me and that they had given me a refund. But no one bothered to tell me that this problem had occurred and that my order wasn't coming! I complained that I should have been notified and they have stopped responding. They don't seem very concerned with keeping customers happy or even notifying them about their orders.
I ordered the book >10 days ago. Never came. I tried emailing their customer service email address. First email address came back saying they dint monitor that one. I found a different email address and they sent me a standard/stock response back saying if I still have a problem to let them know. Makes no sense-the whole purpose of my email is to let them know I have a problem. So frustrated. My son needed the book by today at the latest. Now I don't even want it. Thrift books stole my money,
I ordered a book from here. Gave them title, author, and ISBN # and 2 different times they sent the wrong book. Will never order from this place again. Im not sure if they know what they are doing or if they just throw any book in the mail and collect money. Very bad business!
I have ordered books from Thrift Books quite a few times in the past and have always been pleased with their service. I've never had a problem with shipping or shipping times, with one exception. When one book never showed up, I contacted them and a a replacement was immediately sent.
Placed an order recently for 4 books, and received the customary note that I should expect them within 4-8 business days. No problem. The books were shipped immediately from Atlanta, GA and Dallas, TX. I live in Arkansas. After a few days I went to 'track your shipment' to see the status. Found out that both packages had been sent to Glendale Heights, IL and were still sitting there; not in a post office, but at a "USPS Shipping Partner?" This 'partner' is One Stop Mailing (OSM).
Did a search on OSM and read a number of horror stories: numerous people detailed how their packages (from various retailers, not specifically Thrift Books) had went to Glendale Heights, IL---and just sat! Some said that it was over 2 weeks before the packages were shipped from Illinois. I'm not certain what a 'shipping partner' is or what it does. I'm thinking that there must be some economical benefit to companies to use them, but it certainly escapes me how sending a book from Texas and Georgia to the Chicago area and then---hopefully?---sending it to me in Arkansas makes sense?
I'm sorry to see this happen. I've basically used Thrift Books to obtain missing volumes of mystery series that my local library doesn't have, and it's worked well. But as far as I'm concerned now, I won't even check TB any longer---unless I can opt out of OSM or something similar being involved. The USPS provides direct service from Dallas and Atlanta to Arkansas, but that must not be an option any longer?
I ordered a book on Amazon. Listed as "Very Good". The book was marked as shipped but did not ship for 7 additional days. I received a totally different book than what I ordered, different ISBN#, Different cover and much lower quality than what I ordered. I called and Thriftbooks refuses to take my book back and refund my full amount that I paid. DO NOT BUY FROM THRIFTBOOKS.
... you want to gamble whether you will get readable copies of books.
Worst experience ever! Bought two books, both with major problems.
Book 1 - I purchased the hardcover in what they described in "Good condition". Book was: 1) Missing dust cover 2) had a broken spine 3) had coffee stains everywhere and 4) had torn pages!
Book 2 (this one is unbelievable) - yet another monumental mishap on their part. I bought the "All The Right Stuff" book for my daughter, who is starting a new school in 2 weeks, and had to make annotations in the book, etc. Well, now she reached the end, after done countless annotations on the book (per requested by her prep school) and guess what? The book was missing the last several pages! It abruptly ends on page 182, the last words being "Some college guy had gotten his nose broken and two teeth out in the flight, and they..." and that is it!
Don't even bother calling their customer support. They were rude to me and said all they could do was find me a new book, but I had not time for that! So b/c my daughter was so tight with her deadline I had to order NEXT day from Amazon and pay $119 for Prime + full price on the paperback book, spending over $130.
What kind of service can these guys possibly be running? This is my second complaint within a month. And here I thought I had found a gem, a great place to buy used books.
Unbelievable!
And the worst customer service ever too!
I ordered 6 books and they all came in time and really good condition. I read a bunch of reviews saying how bad ThriftBooks was, but I ordered my books anyways and I was very surprised, the books came in good condition and on time.
I ordered a book and got s wrong book because they realized the book I ordered was worth more than what they sold it to me. They have three other books listed on ABE of the same book for 2 & 1/2 times what I paid for it. They said will refund my money and said keep the kiddy book they sent me. They have upped the book price and are selling three of the same books from three locations at the same price their computer says it is worth. DO NOT BUY HERE. Now they say they dont have the book
Do not buy books here they send wrong books and if u complain alot they block u like they did me on ebay.com or even amazon.com fyi rude seller i spent 160.00 here i hate thiftbooks
I've ordered quite a bit from them and haven't had any problems. Shipping is slow, but it's as to be expected. Book qualities are as listed and prices are cheap. It's a good route to choose if you want to save and aren't in a rush to receive your packages (that's if you don't pay extra for faster shipping, of course).
I've always loved Thriftbooks until a few months ago. I think I'm done with them though because their shipping just gets worse and worse since they insist on using OSM Worldwide. I live in Georgia so more often than not, my books are shipped from Atlanta, from there they go to Glendale Heights, IL (even though I'm in Georgia) where they usually sit for 3 or 4 days, then they are sent back to Atlanta, then to me. I've had OSM Worlwide lie to me countless times and say they didn't have my package yet so I need to contact the sender. Then a few minutes later I get a tracking update saying my package has arrived at and departed from Glendale Heights. I've told Thriftbooks about this happening but they're not changing anything so I'm done ordering from them until they fix the problem.
Guys, I received a book I never ordered - I had booked; 'Dirty Picture' and I received a cheap book called "Safe Harbor". It doesnt looks like honest mistake at all. They asked to ship it back and then ask for a balance of refund? Total rip-off... This is a fraud practice by theftbooks. Not gonna call it thriftbooks
Answer: It sounds like a question you need to ask them directly.
Answer: You should think twice before paying international postal rates and customs fees for used books.
Answer: When this happens, just tell them and they'll give you a refund. Books are sent via USPS, so good luck with a tracking number. Very occasionally they will lose a shipment, and this is not Thriftbooks' fault.
Answer: Library Binding is a term used for books that are in large print.
Answer: I donate my books to the library for their book sale
Answer: I ordered through the ThriftBooks website. They send me an order confirmation email. Then they send me shipping confirmation email with tracking. Shipping confirmation emails may be sent separately for each book if they come from different locations. If you keep track of the emails, you know exactly what the situation is for your order. I have ordered over 30 books, have check on the status often, and had no problems. I'm not sure what happens if you don't have email, but is that a possibility in this day and age? If you ordered by phone, I'm not sure why you didn't call them for the status.
Answer: They do not accept checks or money orders. You need to use credit, debit (cards), or PayPal.
