The cost of the book was $23.39 and more than half the puzzles had already been completed! Said used when i purchased it but i figured it just wasn't packaged and maybe had bent corners. Who on earth would sell a book where the puzzles had already been done! Tried to call them and you cant get a hold of anyone. Tried email contact and got nothing back! Do not purchase from this company!

My grandmother has been in isolation since March. She is an avid reader (I'm talking 5 books a week minimum) but can't visit the library at this time. I told her about ThriftBooks and made an order for her. Ever since she's been absolutely hooked! The price point is PERFECT for her (no more than $5 per book) and they always have the authors she loves. She tells all her friends about it. Since the beginning of May she's ordered about 25 books and they've all been very high quality. On top of bringing my grandmother immense joy, their customer service is PHENOMENAL. I was unaware that you could get points towards a free book until probably the third order or so. I emailed customer service to see if they could posthumously award points if I provided confirmation emails. They responded with in 6 hours and went ahead and put the points on for me, no effort on my end. Now my grandmother has credit for one free book and 391 points towards another. I could not give a more glowing review. We love you thriftbooks!

Stupid or what
June 25, 2020

I bought 3 books in the beginning of june, and it seemed to be lost in transit, so i reached out to them asking if my order could be resent. I really wanted my books so a refund was not my first choice. They came back saying none of the books were in stock anymore and they said I would get a FULL refund. I had ordered 3 books, my total was $18.11. When I got the refund it said they only refunded me $10.15. Its just 8 dollars no biggie, but I wanted to know WHY at least. So I reached out again. They tell me they only refunded me for the item I didn't receive. Now I bought all the books as one order and received ONE tracking number. The package never reached me it was lost, so tell me why they think I received my other two books and i'm just missing one. So I reach out AGAIN, explaining their reasoning would make sense if i at least got the other 2 books but I didn't get any of my books. Then they said they would issue another refund for the rest of the items, but when the refund came in it was only 3.98 (the price of one of the books I was missing.) They said they would give me a full refund so i was expecting my full 18.11 back, so you can see im upset when i only got 14 bucks back total.

Totally satisfied
June 9, 2020

I looked for all of these books everywhere and they were so cheap too! I was so excited for all of the new books and they came within 2 weeks, which I honestly wasn't expected. The books are obviously used, but I am completely fine with that as long as the books are legible. All 7 of my books arrived at the same time and all in one piece, in better condition that I imagined. I AM SO SATISFIED!

What's happened?
June 6, 2020

I've been purchasing from ThriftBooks for some time and have always been happy. But my recent orders have come with books that smell and a few that look water damaged with pages warped and discolored. Even for the price, I do not appreciate paying for books that would be tossed out or recycled. One of the books smelled so bad that it was tossed in the garbage. It was surprising that they even sent it out. What's happened to their service? Now it just seems like it's a money grab and they don't care what their customers think or pay for. Very disappointed.

In general they are OK. However, I get emails from them with prices like $4.99 for a specific book but when I click on a book the REAL price is MUCH MORE. E.g.

"A Useful Woman"
(Book #1 in the Rosalind Thorne Mysteries Series)
By Darcie Wilde

Is $4,19 in the email, but is actually $15.20 on the order page.

Their explanation is that prices are dynamic and determined by the market. May be true, but I can't see a book changing by 3X in a few minutes. Also, in a couple of days I will get the ad for the same book at the low price and again the order price is 3X.

When my local library shut down, I thought I'd go crazy not being able to read during the pandemic. I luckily found this site and have ordered multiple times. Everything has been exactly as ordered, and shipping was pretty quick. I'll continue to keep ordering since I love to read, and am totally happy with the books and service.

I found a used beginner French book on this website. They didn't include any details about how extremely damaged it was. I was surprised at the quality of the book when I received it. Multiple pages were torn, someone had spilled water, pages are about to fall out and are hanging by a thread, and there's writing on numerous pages. I feel like I was duped. It seems like this company has a reputation for this. They must buy donated books for $0.25 then resell it with inaccurate information. This is was a completely unacceptable product.

Wrong wrong wrong
May 16, 2020

I received the wrong item. Not even close to what I was told would be shipped. A refund was issued (may take 2-5 days) because the original ordered item is no longer available?! So I assume someone else wrongly received my order and vice versa. Thriftbooks what are you doing? You need to do your customers right. Sure, I can just find another and purchase it, but what does that say about your company? This is basic knowledge of customer service and life in general: NO ONE likes unmet expectations.

Hit and miss with what you get. Mostly miss. My last order was six books... 2 of the 4 were very good condition. One was a professional cake decorating book which was all marked up by the previous owner. I' done.
This was the third time I have ordered several books. I will not be looking at this site again. I gave it a good try!

I really like my books to look nice on my shelf so I go out of my way to buy the highest quality books even if it costs me a little extra. I only received my great condition book (out of several orders where I chose the highest quality option) one time. After a fourth sorely disappointing order I just stopped ordering there altogether. I was paying extra money and still getting poor quality items time after time. If it had been a one time thing, an accident, that would have been totally fine. But this just kept happening.

I ordered a book. I never received any shipping tracking number. I got refund in my card after few days. I pinged them to see what's going on. They said they canceled my order because they thought it was suspected as fraud order. Then I checked the same book in their website and it showed out of stock. I think this book was never in stock. The fact that it showed out of stock right after they refunded means, either it was never in stock. This is so unprofessional. I hope this website is not a scam website just to steal our credit card information. Be careful guys. Even if this website is not a scam, then they are not professional. The show the books that are not in stock as available. So unprofessional and frustration.

Get what you ask for
April 29, 2020

I've ordered over 50 books. Only had an issue with about two. Wrote customer service and they quickly responded. Issued a replacement for a used book and a full refund for a new book. I don't understand the poor reviews. It is called THRIFTBooks, not Brandnew books. The nerve of people wanting a company who Already covers free shipping, To pay more fees using boxes for books that are used. When I purchase new, they send in a box. You get what you pay for people. Grow up, you are not entitled.

Great Experience
April 25, 2020

I have ordered from ThriftBooks several times, typically ordering 5-6 books at a time. The books are always as described and very affordable. If anyone has encountered any issues with the quality of their books, I would guess they didn't read the description. Also, the workers ship the orders very quickly and you're able to track the order. I just had another delivery and all 5 of my books are as described and arrived very quickly.

Ordered a book, Pet Semetary, book arrived with no dust jacket.

No where on the site did i see information that would let me know it was missing.

Asked to return and the site sent an email that showed an icon of a book beside the book title. This icon means that the book has no cover. How im supposed to know that... no information about icons on website, Also no icon when i look at the order myself.

So you have to purchase a book to find out if it may or may not have a dust jacket.

All in all, misleading information and not helpful website or staff

Example*

These pictures, harry potter book mentioned no dust jacket,

The Pet Semetary i purchased does not, how am i supposed to know that though?

Highlighting Galore
April 11, 2020

Thrifty books should show pictures of the books and what they constitute as "very good", two books I received so far is filled with highlight and comments from the previous owners and one book had a piece of hair (very disturbing), I stick with Amazon from now on.
