I send to threadup merchandise that worth hundreds and they sent me a credit of $2.58. A joke. I will never use this service again!
I sent several items to thredup to sell. Many were name brands that I could have gotten good money for selling on Poshmark, but I wanted to give it a try. This was a complete scam. After the sell of over 20 items I had a credit of $0.25. Please don't make this mistake.
Ok, I've already rated this bs company.but im so infuriated I'll rate again. They are shady when it comes to giving you a decent price for your nice items and they literally take out fees every which way they can. Service fee $25. Return ohhh. $5 item! Had new swimsuit for $88, they priced it $40 something.with a $3 payout.Absolutely absurd bs. Some items are missing, I started with some payout (not much) then down to nothing?!
I told them I want my item's sent back now, no response! I contacted the better buisness bureal. They should not be in business. They should lose their company.something should be done!
I give zero stars if I could!
So... Clean out bag #1 good experience (several years ago).
Clean out bag #2. Lost completely. They credited me $70. I had a pair of boots in there that were worth that alone.
Clean out bag #3. Now we are charging a Service Fee? I thought that was in their "share" of the profits. They "lost" a dress. I got $9 for it. Never worn, designer. I have had an expensive Vince sweater supposedly being returned form the buyer. It has not made it back to the warehouse in over 3 weeks.
And worst of all? There is not a phone number so you can actually talk to a person. Gee, I wonder why?
** I asked for a credit due to the necessity of having to keep watch over all my transactions. Told "sorry, nope".
I have been using ThredUp since maybe 2018 and I can tell you that it went from a great way to make some extra cash consigning to a hot mess, you can forget about making any money consigning your item(s). It appears that they can't keep up with the volume of clean out kits and inventory they receive. They do let you know ahead of time that it may take weeks before your clean out kit is processed but it always takes longer than they tell you. One time it took over 6 months for one of my bags to be processed and I was told it would be 6-8 weeks. That aside, it appears now they are now passing the cost of rapid expansion onto their buyers and sellers. Sellers are now charged a $14 processing fee that is deducted from your already piddly earnings. Nearly all of the web descriptions/measurements for items are inaccurate, causing less sales for sellers and deceitful selling practices to the buyer. Not sure who they have listing these clean out kits but there's a serious lack of training or something going on. They now also have very short maximum payout periods on items you send them to sell, meaning if they don't sell in say 30 days, you never get paid even if ThredUp sells it later on. This policy was not made clear to me when I sent in my most recent bag. They are also listing my items at prices much higher than they should be listed, close to or at the retail prices I paid for them new. Not only is this unfair to buyers who are now facing prices similar to retail for second hand clothes, but I believe it is a tactic to prolong the sale of the item past 30 days so they don't have to pay out the seller. Then after the 30 day max payout period they slash the price to a more appropriate price, pocketing the entire profit. As a buyer, shipping prices have also increased. I recently purchased a pair or jeans that had a completely wrong web description and measurement, contacted ThredUp about it, and they gave me a credit. Now I see the credit is expiring tomorrow after just a couple of weeks in my account and shipping one item standard is $10.99. I'm disappointed because I used to love ThredUp as both a buyer and a seller, but these unethical practices they have put in place because they haven't figured out how to keep up with their volume of business are going to cost them customers. Do better ThredUp.
Inaccurate descriptions and a horrible return policy with hidden fees and deadlines. Don't expect to actually get what you order, and don't expect to get your money back either.
Yikes. So my first (and only) experience as a seller with thredUP has been disappointing from every aspect, to say the least. Took MORE THAN 3 MONTHS to get my mailed-in box of items processed and up on the website. My items sold rather quickly! Turns out I "earn" less than 1% of the sale price. However, they take $14.99 out of that for a "processing fee." Which left -- not much! I went to cash out because I will never be using thredUP -- and I get charged AGAIN to have the money transferred to my bank account! So in the end, I got a little over $2 per item. I would have made more, faster, and been in line with the eco-friendly mission, if I'd just had a garage sale. TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT, and I will take every opportunity to advise folks of same. You guys thoroughly suck.
I sent in 3 boxes of clothing to sell, not realizing that after they take their percentage of the sale, they then charge 14.99 service fee on top of that, which all your earnings are deducted from. So when your only earning $1 or $2 on a sale you make nothing on your sold items. If I would have realized this, I would have just donated to a thrift store or posted on Facebook, atleast I wouldn't pay to give away my clothes. This is why they're a billion dollar company. It's very sad how they take advantage
You'd be better off dropping off a bag of items to a worthy cause than these immoral folks. Expect no feedback and total theft and deception. I'd give the shirt off my back to anyone before these social media platform thieves. Seller be ware!
I've been a customer (buyer) for a couple years now and sadly this will be my last purchase because it never fails to disappoint!
The search algorithm is terrible, clothing is often misrepresented an example being several tops ordered have been petite and wasn't listed as such and the shipping is ridiculous! It takes forever to get your items that you hope is what it's advertised to be. I've had damaged clothes, petite clothes, terrible material, etc and due to "non refundable " or "restocking fees" it isn't ideal to return and that's the point from a business perspective but what ThredUP fails to realize is that only works for so long until A. Customers start dropping like flies or B. Something better comes along that takes care of the customer. Amazon has some flaws but their shipping and customer support is amazing! And that hides a multitude of flaws just saying!
So I changed my email address after sending in 4 or 5 clean up kits. Bought several items too. But once I changed my email, I could not log in with either email and can no longer access my funds from sales, minimal though they may be. Bad enough that the only pay 15% for most of my stuff, but now they are even keeping that. Will report to BBB as they have no phone number and won't respond to emails.
I cannot recommend threadup for buying OR selling. Although I did find a few good items to buy I quickly realized its a scam. They said I could return the items when they did not fit but then offered me only a store credit. I took the credit only to discover it never showed up on my account. My emails to Thread up were never answered. Then I tried selling items. It took almost two months for them to "review" my items and they returned a Badgley Miska dress without listing it. They charged me nearly $11 to return the dress. All but two were expensive designer items that threadup sold for over $200 and my return after all their "fees" was "maybe $42 if those items are not returned in 30 days." The final two items that have not sold they offered to return to me for a fee of $5.99 each. So for $11 they will return MY clothing that I sent them. In conclusion I urge you to NEVER sell with Thread up and buy VERY cautiously as their "return policy" is completely bogus.
There were roaches in the box. Don't really think there is much more to say about that. Also, "rewards" never worked.
It took over two months before my bag was processed - an entire season went by and so none of the clothes I sent in were relevant anymore. I also asked for my clothes to just be sent back to me, and they did not process the return. Basically, once you send your clothes in, there's no guarantee they will be processed. They could hold the materials for months and never return them to you. And you can't do anything. Much better to donate and get the tax write-off or send somewhere else to avoid terrible customer service and frustration.
Here's an update:
- Over two months after I sent in my bag, with no movement and the summer having passed, I emailed customer service and asked them to return my clothes to me because they wouldn't sell. Customer service said they would identify the bag right before it was to be processed and would send it back to me.
- ThredUp did not send my clothes back to me. They posted only around a dozen items when there were literally many more brand new items in the bag. I emailed ThredUp and asked them why they had not sent the bag back to me. They said they didn't have confirmation as to my address (?!?!). They said they could not send the clothes back to me.
- I posted the above review. ThredUp then reached out to me and said they could return all of my clothing to me after the clothes for sale were posted online. I wrote back and provided my address (since they said last time they did not have it) and confirmed I wanted everything sent back to me.
- ThredUp did not send anything back to me. After receiving no word, I followed up.
- ThredUp said they could only send the clothes they had posted for sale back to me. The rest of the clothing could not be sent back.
- I asked ThredUp to reconsider.
Complete scam. They keep all your clothes and then likely sell them separately to turn a profit. Horrific customer service. Do not use this service. Extremely frustrating and disappointing.
(This is based on one purchase.)
I recently stumbled on ThredUp from an ad on an article I was reading. I'd never heard of them before, but I knew I was looking for a black leather crossbody bag to replace my well-loved and worn out The Sak purse I'd been using for years.
I was really careful defining my search parameters and only looked at bags with excellent reviews. I didn't want to pay over $45 in case I was really unhappy with the experience.
I eventually settled on a Cole Hann bag with an original price of $250 that was listing for $36.50. The purse arrived two days ago and after a close inspection, I am VERY happy with it. There are no obvious defects to the leather. There is an issue with the zipper, but I've had the same issue in other bags and it's not really a problem.
So I will shop there again. I'll probably limit it to accessories since I can't imagine trying to get clothes online since I can be very hard to fit, but for certain items, this place is a gold mine.
I was not aware that I could not return items. The items are in poor shape. I have ordered before and never as disappointed.
BEWARE of deceptive marketing - they refuse to return items even if they're eligible!
I purchased about $250 worth of items, and read the return policy closely before buying them. There were a few items in my order that didn't fit, and they were marked on my receipt as NOT final sale, so I attempted to contact customer service since the option to start a return wasn't showing up on my order. The agent informed me that even though the items were not marked final sale at my time of purchase, they were indeed final and I am not able to return them. I attempted to rationalize with her a few times, sent screenshots of my receipt, asked to speak to someone in customer service as it seems reasonable for me to expect to be able to return items that were advertised as eligible. Ultimately she just shut the chat down and refused to process a refund.
Has this happened to others? Seems like this sort of behavior would be grounds for a class action lawsuit.
Very disappointed! Clothes are not what they are advertised. Like they say, "you get what you paid for". Stay far away from this site. Will never order from them again. Don't understand how they are still allow to rip people off.
Biggest mistake I've ever made boxing up a huge shipment of decent clean clothing for them to sell. They take a HUGE fee. Not only do they take all your cash then they add a $14.99 fee on top of that! So I ended up with $7. Complicated web site which is probably intentional so sellers do not realize they could have just donated the clothing to a good cause. Think twice before allowing them to sell your clothing.
Placed an order over a week ago and never received pkg. Contacted customer service and was told that fed ex returned a batch which mine was one of those included and that they were working on a label to ship it back out. I asked for a refund and was told that they couldn't issue one since it was in process. Now I can expect my order in 1 to 2 weeks. If I don't receive it I can request a refund. Never received any communication about this. Won't be ordering from them again.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
