ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Placed an order on July 4th and paid expedited shipping. The order was divided into 4 packages for shipping. One of the packages never arrived although I was charged for it. After MANY unsuccessful attempts to contact by email, facebook messenger and the nonfunctioning "chat" feature, this is where I am today, Called FED EX myself, the missing package is in Memphis, empty... Can't reach anyone so I guess I'll return entire order and then contact my credit card company to eliminate the charge. I've never been so disappointed in a company!
I sent them a Tommy Hilfiger blazer to sell that I never wore, and it was dry-cleaned. I noticed they didn't list it. I sent them an email asking why, and they told me it had an odor, and was dingy, so they couldn't accept it! I'm sure they sold it somewhere else. I've bought clothes from them that weren't in the best condition, and this blazer was fine. Never again!
Zero Stars. They changed their payout and its BS. They take nearly all of the payout. Like WTF why would I send several huge bags of clothes to then have only 20% accepted. Then I get like. 55 cents for selling an item for $11. Thats 5% people. Criminal! They should be shut down. Don't send your clothes to them!
First time to thredup... I should have had never started! They put so much money to "sponsor" a lot of YouTubers I guess and they all made thredup sounds so great.
So I have placed two orders, one around late June and one early July... You know what?! I have never ever received them yet! I logged into my account and both orders are still processing more than a week after I placed my order and I emailed to the support team and asked for updates, they said the first one has been shipped without sending me any notification. So I check with the tracking number they provided and it shows that it's delivered... However I have not yet received it. I went to them again asked for a proof of delivery cuz only sender can request that from FedEx. I have been waiting for days but thredup still hasn't replied.
Another order is still processing and I email them again and again to ask for the tracking... They never replied...
I spent nearly $200 for 2 orders and I have still gotten nth! What the hell they are doing... I'll never use thredup again!
I wish I have had read some of the comments here earlier than I don't have to go through pain now.
So watch out sis!
Most of the on-line reviews regarding thredUP is terrible experiences of trying to sell items on their website. I'm here to give a review of the purchasing experience. Part of the purchasing experience is evaluating a company's customer service/ assistance. Buying items on their website is relative pain-free, but their customer service is basically non-existent. There is no phone number listed on their website for assistance, and no one ever replies your email. I have written an email inquiry 5 days ago and still no replies. It's like they don't want you to contact them at all most likely because they don't want to deal with your issues. So, I have NO way of contacting anyone from that company to ask follow-up questions. I have a feeling that they messed up my order but I have no way of confirming this with anyone from that company. Conclusion: if you cannot reach anyone from this company for assistance, do not buy anything from here.
First of all, I agree with recent seller-if I could give ZERO stars, I would. Total scam this company. I sent in 20 pieces, all NWT and received $24... but. And this blows my mind. You have to wait an additional 2 weeks when it took them over a month to look at my bag in the first place! Completely unacceptable. Wish I would have reviewed this site before wasting my time. Cannot believe this company gets away with this after reading these reviews.
I noticed an item I liked, and ordered it. The item was not sent to me. When I contacted customer service, they were prompt with issuing a refund. Although it was only one experience, it didn't seem like sellers are very responsible.
When the site first went up there was a greater effort to list items or to consign just a few. Almost everything was listed. Then the rules seem to have changed. I sent in over 30 items and only 8 were listed as consignment. These were name brands, some with new tags. The payouts got less and less. A pair of Old Navy (worn once) jeans garnered me a mere $0.70 cents. In the beginning the clean out bags were shipped free, now there is a $1.99 fee. Won't be using this service again. I'd rather donate the clothes.
I sent my boots back and then received an email stating that the refund of $40.75 had been sent to my account. Never received it. I have tried and tried and tried to get a hold of someone to help me. No one will return my emails or my calls. I will turn them in to the BBB. I can't believe how much time I have spent on this and they don't care. I have a job and really don't have time for this. They need to go out of business. They are crooks. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. Their sizing is never correct.
I sent in my first clean up bag not knowing what to expect but didn't expect my coach bag and my Vera Bradley tote that were in excellent condition to be basically stolen. The bags wear excluded from my posting saying they wear in bad condition which was a lie I hadn't even used the Vera Bradley bag and the coach bag was like new. I contacted the company questioning this and they basically gave me the standard response not taking what I was saying seriously. If the condition of the bags was even questionable I would not have said a thing but they were 100 percent wrong and didn't want to hear what I had to say. I will not work with a dishonest company I would advise to stay away from them.
Buying is great, selling is not. To sell items, they have it on consignment with a grossly underpriced payout to the seller - if it sells within a given time. If it does not sell within this time, you get nothing or have to pay to have your item returned - and... the site reserves the right to sell the item at a later date with NO payout to you. If you send them items, you are basically donating to their profits. I guess this is why buying is a good thing for the buyer but, a ripoff for the seller.
Sellers beware and read all negative reviews these are not lies this company is a rip off. I sent in high end items some never worn and they were listed as gently worn. Also, you get pennies for your items. They sold a pair of my Ralph Lauren jeans and the payout tome was 0.00. DON'T DO IT... I ended up reclaiming my remaining items and will sell on Poshmark.
The purse looked pretty good on pictures so I ordered the purse it came with the beat up purse like pictures I shown. They try to hide the real signs of wears. I asked to return but they don't let me return it. Be aware!
I ordered a pair of purple cords for the winter and received them today. They were too small for me. I don't know why they couldn't send the size I ordered (4X) or Plus 28. I am so angry about this, I will never order from them again and I will say so on my Facebook page and other sites I belong to. Shame on you people.
I will never send clothes to thredUP ever again. I sent many on-trend, clean, exclusive brand name items to them and not only were some not accepted which is completely ridiculous, but what was accepted was gouged for resale. I will never do this again.
I sent in 3 HUGE boxes of clothes, a lot were listed but the price payout is laughable, usually less than $1 an item even if they are brand new with tags or high end items. To top it all off, if someone uses a discount code YOU lose money or they can take your item at no cost! DONT DO IT the convenience is not worth the loss.
I bought a bunch of clothes on this website and was very disappointed in the items when they arrived. Some items that were listed as "you might even mistake this for brand new" weren't even close to that description. I bought a pair of UGG boots that were obviously not authentic (I have gone through many pairs, I know my size, and I know what styles they sell), the "size 7" was really a size 5 (though the tag said 7). FAKE! The worst part is that you have to pay shipping to return the items, so you lose money shopping here. The only other option is a return for store credit, but of course that means you have to repeat the process of buying something that arrives in bad condition and sending back. No thanks. Once I bought a blazer from them and when I picked it up, random pills dropped out of the pocket. I'm not kidding. At least 5 pills. God knows that they were. I'm so done with this website. Also - why does this site FORCE me to put my order number in this review? So a company that has my credit card info and address can retaliate? Yeah. That makes sense.
I really really wish I had read the reviews before I sent thredUP 30+ pieces of clothing, some of which were name brand NWT. My cash out grand total was only $11 and this is the message I received from them "Your earnings are available for cash out 14 days after each item has sold. ThredUP shopping credit is available immediately." System is set up to basically force you to use credit to buy from them. Find another site if you're looking to unload your clothing especially if it is name brand good quality.
I sent a bag stuffed with Women and children's clothes from Niki, Underarmor and Macey's I received $10 for all of it.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
