thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Do not buy
February 5, 2022

I have been waiting for a response for three weeks now. I received a box that contained 3 tops and I ordered 5 pair of jeans. I was worried at first because the box was small but i opened it thinking maybe it was vac sealed. But nope as soon as i opened it i knew it was incorrect. I was blown off and told just resend the product you received. And the stuff you ordered is now concidered lost and they will not help you find you order at all. They stated just send product I even included a picture of the box and tops I received. I have sent multiple emails and still no response. This is my first order from this company and they definitely make you feel as if you are the problem. As if you are lying about what you received. I understand some may do this but not all. They truly do not care about the customers, they have made no attempt to help or refund your money and expect you to take your time out to send the order back with no help finding your original order. I Do not recommend. I love the thought of resell but Please shop elsewhere. You will most likely will not get what you ordered.

Items Not As Described
February 5, 2022

One item was heavily stained with pulled threads. Another had a button literally falling off. I wouldn't buy these items at a garage sale for the $2 restocking fee. Only one item arrived as described. The whole box reeked of bad perfume. If you're a seamstress, willing to gamble, and looking for unusual items that fit your style and wallet or only buy new with tags, go for it. Otherwise Poshmark is a lot better, and the sellers get the money, not some start up tech CEO. I'd love to help you think secondhand first Jim, but this business model fails.

I ordered 3 items on 1/17,1/28 and it still hadn't shipped. I can't get a hold of anyone from the company, just an automated email response. They're online chat support permanently down. It's 2/1 and it hasn't shipped. It'll be Spring soon and I won't need these sweaters.

Horrible
January 30, 2022

Just to go on they force you to give your email. First turn off. Have a fake email. Second it's so annoying to navigate when every click is an ad for a discount. Not to mention blurry photos! What is the problem here? Get someone better to design your website! Will never return. Gross

I love the idea of ThredUp, and I have received a few nice items. My main problem is finding the correct size. Most of the clothing items I've purchased in my size are way too small. Returns are easy but costly as a surcharge is assessed on each item you return. A couple of items I received had no sizing tags on them questioning how they even determined what size they were.

Not color I ordered
January 23, 2022

I ordered a black sweater and got a green sweater instead. Very disappointed. The company wants to charge me a restocking fee which is not very much but it's the principle. It was not my error it was theirs. Don't think I will order from this company again

Never received package
January 22, 2022

I ordered a purse on 12/15/21 and it shipped 12/23/21, I have not received my order and it is now 1/21/22. There is no phone number to call or email to contact Thredup, you just get sent to the automated function for email and chat. The automated function shows you your purchase and tracking number. The tracking shows in transit and just stops.

Started out with Thredup a couple years ago, at that point they seemed to care that they had customers. Now they really don't …. You sell a $30 item and get paid $. 60 for it- and if that suits you, then this is the company for you.
Also the whole purpose in receiving clean out bags is because you're in the process of cleaning out your closet. I was on my last two bags but still in the middle of my cleaning my closet and needing to go through and sort …. Tried to request more bags because of sorting and they will not send me more bags until they receive those two bags.
This has become a company that's so busy, they no longer care about customer service. I do believe they care greatly about their partnership with Walmart and that's taking precedence over what's gotten them to where they're at in the first place.
As I said earlier I do want to get rid of things I was settling for selling it for $. 60 just to be done with it, but I'm now done with this company …. There are a lot of competitors to Thred Up and I would strongly advise you to look online to find them for the things that you need to sell and not donate.
Deal with a company that cares about you - there are a lot of choices out there. It's worth your research to find somewhere other than Thred Up.

So the good news is this is a real company and not a scam. The bad news is they do everything in their power to (legally) get your money and keep it. I bought some clothes for my kids. Surprise, they didn't fit. When I tried to return them, I found they charged $2 PER ITEM for a return. One of my items didn't even cost $2! You want a cash refund instead of store credit? That'll cost ya another $9. I spent $60 bucks there and wound up getting $35 back. Dare I try it again and hope for the right size this time? I probably won't. Just about every other online clothing store has free returns. With clothes, I would say that's a must. I'll either shop a different website or go to a brick and mortar store.

Clothing STINKS!
January 19, 2022

I got shirts from here and they smelled to high heavens! I can't bear the smell and definitely don't wanna put that on my body. It smells like an old woman perfume mixed with bleach and chemical and odor! Never again! They are getting sent back!

I was sent a pair of pants that were not clean. They had clearly been worn without panties. I contacted customer service but no reply.

Website won't even work.
January 13, 2022

I spent a while shopping for clothes to make the most of my discount code. Whilst checking out, the cart never went through. The money left my bank account. The order was never processed. I contacted customer service and they said it was a problem with my bank. My bank confirmed it was not. It was a problem with them. Took 3 representatives to even get the money back, still can't order any clothes, and was told "We'll you can keep trying. Eventually, it will work, there are no problems with our system." (Whilst clearly there was) Not only that the website is incredibly slow and laggy. Don't waste your time, just thrift in person or not at all.

I received the blouse I ordered, it was full of hair embedded in the material. I kept pulling and pulling hair from all over the shirt. It was disgusting. Didn't bother returning it, too much hassle and fee charges. I threw it in the trash. Never again

Crazy policies
January 12, 2022

I placed an order with 5 items and it was shipped in 3 separate packages. The first two were left in my mailbox with no issue, but the third package was not delivered and was returned to the ThredUP by the carrier without my knowledge. Rather than simply shipping my order back to me, the company told me I would have to wait 3 days for the items to be relisted, search through the dozens of pages of search results to find the items again, and repurchase them. They offered me a 5.99 credit to pay for shipping for the items that I already purchased. Such a hassle… I won't shop from this company again.

Loyalty points scam
January 11, 2022

I had enough loyalty points to receive $10 off a purchase. I had an item in my cart and clicked to redeem points for $10 off. After, I clicked it told me the item didn't qualify for discount. I didn't buy the item but 1,000 points were still removed from my points. I emailed to tell them I didn't end up redeeming any points but I still lost them. They replied that the system was unable to add points after the fact. I told them that didn't make any sense since they remove points if they are expired and add points when you earn them. They still replied by saying there wasn't anything they could do, and tried to placate me with another discount code.

Scam
January 9, 2022

This has to be the worst company I've sold my clothing through! Although it seems nice they take pictures of your clothing. They will sell it for $10 & you will only get 25¢! Items that don't sell. If you want them returned. You have to BUY them back! Your own clothes! What a joke! Better off going to platos closet & getting ripped off there instead! They at least give you a few dollars rather than pennies for name brand clothing.

Fed Up with Thred Up
January 7, 2022

I wish I had seen these reviews before I attempted to sell items with Thred Up. I sent 47 POUNDS of designer, and brand new with Tag, clothing in to Thred Up. They received it over 2 months ago and I have heard nothing from them, not even an email stating they had the items. Luckily their app is a bit more reliable and it stated my items were received. Today I contact them because the status still has not changed and I've heard nothing. I was told my items aren't even scheduled to be inspected for MORE THAN ANOTHER MONTH! So... I request for my items to be sent back to me since their website quoted a processing time of 3-4 WEEKS, because this is ridiculous. I'm told my items can not even be touched until their date of inspection (over another month away). At that time they can be sent back to me if I'd like. Basically my clothes are held hostage for 4 months and zero response or service from the company. Poshmark and other sites can be a pain in the $#*!, but those are what I'll be using in the future after reading the reviews here and experiencing ThredUp first hand. My advice: Go elsewhere!

I send in brand spanking new new rock boots that cost over $350 when I bought them and I saw them trying to resell them for $10. My question is who decides the worth of the clothing? I feel like they have somebody that's stuck in 2003 and thinks Abercrombie and Fitch is still a trending clothing brand.

Scam
January 2, 2022

ThredUP is a scam posing under the guise of "reducing carbon footprint ". I've been duped like many, when selling clothes that were brand new, only to see after the 6 months it takes to process my bag, those clothes never appear to go up for sale. They also changed their point system so you are getting less rewards for buying from them. If their "brand" is buying 2nd hand to help the environment and save people money, then WHY would one buy more clothes (at higher prices) than other thrift shops? It's also impossible to cashout. Once (if) any of my items sell, I'm deleting my account and going back to supporting local thrift stores.
