thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

ThredUP is Awesome!
December 11, 2016

I love the ability to find clothes by brand and size. ThredUP's customer service is amazing, and I feel the values are really good as well!

Don't send in clothes
December 10, 2016

I sent in a bag of good clothes. They sold them all and made $130.00. I received 14.60. I would give them away before I send anymore in. Well that is really what I did was give them away for a company to make money. ThredUp is a rip off.

If you are selling clothing STAY AWA Y! I sent hundreds of dollars of barely worn boys dress clothing (blazers, dress pants and shirts from J Crew, Nordstoms and Ralph Lauren) I got a check for$ 2.50... what a scam...
Do not send clothing to sell... they will say the clothing is stained when in fact there was brand new clothing sent... I don't know how they can get away with this...

Not overly impressed
January 18, 2021

I've bought some items and was satisfied. If you are looking to make extra money don't send your things here, you will not make much at all and it will take forever for your items to be processed. If you are looking to just recycle your old clothes responsibly, then go for it. I'm still not sure how I feel about it, it's essentially a good will but online wih the guise of fashion.

Scam artist
December 7, 2016

There upfront price for clothing you sent in to sell is a rip off. So far they have made 75.00 off of items I sent with more waiting to be sold and the upfront money they are going to send me in 2 weeks is $18.30. If I had known this I would have donated to charity... at least I could have gotten a tax write off. People should start posting their experience with thredUp on social media. I have. They asked what they could do, I told them but they haven't responded. Start posting people.

What a joke
December 7, 2016

I sent them a bag full of clothes and jeans, and a guess purse. They said they accepted 3 items, my payout $2! I could have sold that stuff at a garage sale for more than $2! Then just to use my credit I ordered a pair of pants which had higher shipping then the item so that was pointless, when I received the item they were stretched out at the waist and too big for a medium! Sending them back and will just have to lose out on my money.

Stole my shoes!
December 6, 2016

I sent them a $600 pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes that I wore once for about 3 hours. They said they "donated them to charity" because they were stained. There was not a mark on them. Someone there basically stole a great pair of shoes that I would have preferred to donate to a friend instead!

Should have ZERO STARs

What a bunch of gypsies and thieves. I sent out a bag in the beginning of Sept. 2016, FULL of designer shirts, jeans, and accessories. I received an email stating I'd hear back on or around 10/28/16 about my processed items. I never once heard back, email or otherwise. On 11/5/16, I reach out to the company more or less asking "wtf, wheres my bag?" I receive an email from some amanda who supposedly is/was a CSR, feeding me bull$#*! about how they accepted one pair of jeans... out of over 50 items! Obviously upset, I email corporate asking why this happened. To this day, I have yet to hear back from them. And to top it off, I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD BACK ABOUT MY BAG BEING PROCESSED! Ha, these people are a joke. Idk what they are getting paid for when they apparently don't do any work- I mean seriously, I am the customer so why am I the one doing all of the dirty work and investigating?
Moral is: do not use this site, do not believe a thing they say. They will rob you of your things and never contact you. This is the absolute worst experience I ever encountered. Save your things! Sell them on poshmark or ebay. At least you'll know where your things are and are going to, and you'll get paid!

-5 more like it!
December 6, 2016

What a rip off! Sent New with tag dresses and was paid out 10.95. Also sent other items in excellent shape. Notice their good reviews are from purchases made, NOT from their pay outs! We are furnishing them their stock. No more from me! Wish I could give them -5!

I recently sent a large bag of clothing - all of which was in excellent condition, some which had never been worn or had only been worn a few times. They accepted a total of 12 items and offered me a payout of $15 (before deducting the shipping and handling charge of $8.99). Honestly, the clothes that they did accept were the oldest/worst quality/lowest price point items I sent to them.
I was under the impression that they donated the unaccepted items but, after re-reading their FAQ, I realized they have the right to sell unaccepted items to "third party sellers." Their whole platform is a SCAM and I believe they take high quality items, claim that they can't accept them, and then sell them off to some "third party", so they can keep all of the profits. Wish I had read reviews and really looked at all of the information before sending them anything. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT send them anything!

Terrible! Do not sale!
December 6, 2016

I could have sold some of my items on eBay and made as much or twice as much from my entire bag. It's such a rip off! My first bag for some reason was never charged the shipping and handling of 9.99 so I thought this was a pretty good deal, although I'm thinking I could have made more on some items but then my second bag got charged the shipping/ handling fee and I received 2 dollars. I will never use thred up again.

Do not sell on Thred up
December 4, 2016

I wish I had done research on selling on Thread up. I sent in clothing in new and excellent condition and only received a little over 21.00 dollars for all of it. After they subtracted the ten dollar fee for shipping my items I am left with a little over 11.00 dollars in credit. It really is a complete rip off to those selling items. I wish I had donated the clothing I sent them to a charity. So, I learned. I saw a sweater I sent them for sale and they are selling that one item for more than the 21.00 dollars credit they gave me for all my items. I really like recycling/reselling clothing, but this is not the place to sell. They are taking serious advantage of sellers who only want to earn credit to purchase stuff from their website! I am very disappointed, but will find better websites. They are out there and Thred up does not deserve your items.

Rip off!
December 3, 2016

I sent a full bag if name brand clothes and some never used. My payout is $5, which I can't cash out because they charge $9.99 for shipping & handling. I should have donated at my local charity. DO NOT SEND YOUR CLOTHES TO THREDUP! I'd give zerp stars if possible.

Zero stars
December 2, 2016

Don't waste your time! I sent in a bag full. 3 items were name brand dresses with the tags on and several pair of unworn shoes and other gently worn items... they accepted 9 of my items, (3 expensive dresses with tags on keep in mind) and they gave me $5 and some change. This is a joke. ThredUP, you can keep the $5 and shove it up your a**. This is a scam... don't bother wasting the month it takes to get any response.

No stars if possible
December 1, 2016

I sent a bag of clothes in to sell after my sister in law told me she had bought a few things from the site. Everything I sent in was in very good shape, still in style, just simply things that I didn't wear in the past few months that I didn't want to hold on to. I figured that they would take 50% of the things in there and even if they donated the rest that was okay with me. My problem was that when they finally did process my bag (weeks after sending it in), I noticed that they gave me a total of $10 for 6 items, and those items were being sold on the site for $30+. So basically, after their $9.99 shipping fee that they subtract from whatever you do sell (and if your items don't make it to 9.99 they will make your account negative), I made a penny. And now they are making $170 off of my items. This is basically a scam. At least if I would've taken them to Salvation Army or somewhere, I could have gotten a tax receipt. Instead I let a greedy company make money off of them instead. What a waste.
