thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

HORRIBLE. STAY AWAY
January 2, 2017

This company is horrible. I regularly sell clothing and related items using a variety of resale options. ThredUP provides the least value, and is the least customer service friendly of all organizations. Their business practices border on fraud. It takes 2 weeks or more to get your funds, they pay less than market value, they charge you to ship items to them, and then they set up a crazy system for pay outs THAT DOES NOT WORK. I sent bags to them in October. I have yet to be paid - albeit the average $2/item payout for name brand, high end clothing (Tory Burch, J Crew, Kate Spade, etc). Just a horrible, horrible, company. STAY AWAY. If I could rate a NEGATIVE, I would do so.

RIP OFF DO NOT SELL!
January 2, 2017

I was super excited received pretty bag and cleaned out my closet. Most of my items name brand with tags on them. I sent a new jacket valued $130 with tags on it with other items my bag packed full! And to add insult to injury you get email ITEM SOLD. (ALL MY ITEMS SOLD) so you know they sold item made good money, but after everything I made $5.50 Dont waste your time its so disappointing! Buying from them maybe ok,

I love getting clothing from ThredUp
January 1, 2017

I'm a classic case of falling in love with one or two staples, then wearing them into the ground. It's great to be able to restock with my old favorites at a cheaper cost (or in the case of some of these, being able to find them at all.) My only caveat with ThredUp (as with any consignment) is that you get NOTHING when you give clothes to them. I've priced out what I received from items sent in vs what I can see they sold the items for, and it's something around 5% of where ThredUp priced the items. So now I just donate my clothes and only buy.

Fast! And great clothes
December 31, 2016

Received our order in timely manner - clothes were as listed. Perfect for children's clothing because kids wear through their clothes much quicker, so spending less on quality items is great!

After buying a pair of shoes for $10.00 dollars. I decided to sent 2 La Perla by Marchesa cocktail dress and gown, plus other 5 items I received $13.54 for all 7 items.
Do not bother sending your items, and the only way to contact them is by starting a chat online and a nonsensical email explaining the cash pay out.
Buy but don't sell.

Less than a star
December 29, 2016

Buying from them might be nice but selling to them is aweful, they barely take anything you send them and you get paid next to nothing for the items you sell them, better off posting it to craigslist as a package.

Scam artists.
December 28, 2016

I sent a huge bag of brand name clothes to ThredUP. They "accepted" only eight with a $5 payout, but somehow my "unaccepted" ended up on their site. On their Facebook page they delete any negative comments from sellers (of which there are many, daily). Today I posted a link to their review on resellratings.com (which they themselves direct sellers to in their very gaslighting post from 2013 found here: https://www.thredup.com/bg/p/we-want-to-buy-100-of-every-bag-you-send-us-period-oh-and-were-human) and they blocked me from their Facebook page. Shady, shady business. Great deals for buyers, on the backs of their sellers.

Basically stole my item
December 28, 2016

I sent in a bag of clothes and accessories, and elected the option to have any unaccepted items sent back to me. The bag that came back was missing a very nice watch that they said was not accepted by them. After trying to contact them (the only way is by online chat), I was sent an email stating that the item was sent back to me. I have no recourse to get my missing item back, so they are allowed to keep it for free. To add insult to injury, I received $2 for the 5 accepted items.

Buy, don't sell.
December 28, 2016

Buying from ThredUp haso been positive overall, minus the hefty shipping charge. Do free shipping, ThredUp, or make it a reasonable fee. No one wants to pay for shipping. Hope you don't need to return an item, too. Sometimes, it's cheaper just to keep the item.

Finally, I won't sell to ThredUp in the future. They accepted 16 of the barely used, brand name items I sent for a whopping $20, barely $1 an item. Felt like a waste, and I probably would have gotten more at a local consignment store.

This place is God awful. I send in giant bag of slightly used items which were name brand and got virtually no return for them. I don't buy cheap clothes. This was a complete rip off. Not worth your time or money. Especially when they sell your items for 800% higher then they paid you. This company is awful. Donate your clothes to Goodwill, at least that way you get a tax deduction.

ThredUP
December 28, 2016

WOW! What a great resale store. If you know your sizes pretty well why would you shop anywhere else? Everything I've bought so far has been perfect size and in shape. I will keep going back to ThredUP first before the department stores.

Several shirts were supposed to be an XL, no go. My friend who is a medium can fit into them. A few items fit perfect, including my new favorite jeans... so it's not all bad. BUT, out of the 20 items I have ordered, I can wear 4... not very good odds. The sizes should be checked and resized if incorrect. Maybe in inches instead of actual sizes? Quality on about half of the items was less than advertised, so 50% were spot on with quality.

Received wrong size, too late to return
December 28, 2016

I ordered a pair of size 12 khaki pants, but when I received them, they were 12 short... Mismarked. By the time I realized this it was past the time to return them. I think there was a 2 week period... So now I'm stuck...

I found just what I was looking for. My order arrive
Quickly and in very good condition. One thing that I appreciate (I've ordered several times) is the clothing is clean and has no old smell. You can tell that ThredUP cares about their customers and what about the shipping box its fantastic.

Don't waste your time.
December 27, 2016

Regarding purchasing: misrepresented items, wrong sizes.
Regarding selling: sent in $400 worth of brand new with tag retail value items, made $12.25 minus shipping/processing fee for a grand total of $2.26.
Buying/selling: ridiculously long processing times.

Never Again.
December 27, 2016

This operation is fraudulent. I sent in a large bag of clothes, almost all designer label and in very good condition. Some had never been worn. After they only put 4 of my items up for resale I tried repeatedly to find out where the rest of my items went. After exchanging several emails I was still unable to get an answer of their fate nor was I able to get the items returned to me. Next time I will take my items directly to the Salvation Army.
