I can not tell you how many times I have ordered a pair of shoes only to find out when I wear them they are broken, stretched out or damaged even though I only buy "Excellent" conditioned items. I just received two mens shirts that showed tags still on them in the picture and when I received them they smelled of body odor. Even the jewelry, chains have broken on first time wearing or part of the clasp was missing when I wore it for the first time. Yes, I should have inspected all of my items as soon as I received but unless you actually wear them you will not know if they literally fall apart the first time you do! Straps are stretched out, heal or platform literally fall off of shoes I have ordered. I would say only 50% of the items I have purchased were not defective. Buyers beware.
I think therealreal don't inspect the qulity of items at all. I have bought a rlx ralph lauran jacket that they describe very good, Minor discoloration at neckline; minor residue at neckline. But when i unbox, I found big tear. I don't understand how could miss this big tear, and describe very good.
And customer service is terrible.
Do not trust this website's describe, and do not buy at this website.
Every item behind expert? $#*!ing lie. This website never inspect item at all.
I have purchased a rediculous amount if products from here, but lately the quality is down hill- I purchased a pair of gucci boots- the zipper was torn- I sent them back andcthwy put themcright back up for sale- no mention if the ripped zipper. Yesterday I received a pair of new Valentino sandals- now I own 8 pair of Valentino's- the pair i received are fake- no serial number, the studs show on the back of the straps- I compared them tocthe pair I purchased from Saks abd they are not even close… I have contacted them today and I am waiting for a return call- in my opinion FASHIONPHILE is much better and free shipping and free returns - even will buy back your handbag within a year for 75% of what you paid if its still in good shape. Very disappointed in RealReal lately- beliw the Saks Valentino are in black- the fakes are from realreal in beige…they should have caught this
Having an AWFUL experience with Customer service. I purchased a pair of sneakers during their special credit promotional period. When I received them and after further inspection and third-party authentication I was Made aware that they are a replica and not authentic. I contacted the real real Customer service and I spoke to someone named Hazel who is a Service specialist by title. There were other items part of my order and this made me eligible for the promotional credit if I return these I'm no longer eligible but I purchased them just so I could be eligible for this promotional. Nevertheless he told me to return them and that I will not be getting any kind of credit which is fine if I was purchasing what they were advertising however their authentication system failed and now the customer is suffering and being punished. For this headache and their failed authentication system they should be able to still honor the value of my original purchase even if I return to them these take an authentic and replica shoes. I have been a customer with them for the last seven years and over the last couple months they have had inventory issues authentication issues and therefore not only do I not want to purchase from them I will also no longer sell with them absolutely horrendous service.
Last night I was relating the fact that I submitted many designer pieces in perfect condition to TheRealReal in early January, and seeing that they never were posted requested them back in early February, yet still have received nothing but idle promises of expedited return requests and "tomorrow". Several people mentioned other terrible experiences on both ends of the business transaction with this reseller.
I recommend moving to a more honest and more organized platform or just giving to a good charity of which there are many--the prices they fetch are close to nothing so you may as well get the dose of dopamine one gets with committing an act of kindness.
MY Consignment of Vuitton and Hermes LOST for 6 months NO Resolution after 500+ emails, texts, calls
The very few items they finally located. Including costly new HERMES kelly worth $25,000
Instead of Listing for sale, finally. They THREW IN THE BOX, with no packaging, not even a dust bag, with all the parts out in the box - lock, key, certificates. And sent to the OLD address from last year. The box was severy damaged, contents lost, etc. I was NOT even notified they are shipping or WHY they would use an old address if I have advised them 15 times of my new address.
6 mon of daily NIGHTMARE with the company as I am TERRIFIED of what they doing with my valuable items. Complete DISREGARD to costs, condition, safety or sales. DO NOT trust The Real Real. I am already so over stressed as a single mom. And this has caused a worsening of my Severe PTSD due to the years of abuse. I am including a packign slip for the very few items that were recovered by me. Dusters missing, bag missing from box, no description. And RETURN was NOT requested - I only requested them to MARKET my bags for sale. LAST YEAR!
Not sure how they are still able to sell "Tiffany" jewelry. Horrible experience. I bought 3 rings of various styles and sizes.
I purchased a pair of Prada heels to go under my wedding dress. I haven't received them yet, which is ok, since I just ordered them a few days ago. In my order, I checked the box stating I was interested in consigning items. Big mistake. I started receiving emails from Chloe, who I was told was a Business Development Relation (BDR for short) asking which items I wish to sell. I responded and told her Kate Spade New York. She then proceeded to call me the following day around 1 pm and asked me again what items, to which I had told her again and also said I had told her in the email. She acted clueless and laughed it off and said she could send me a shipping label to my residence in New York. Uhhhh ok…? I was a little concerned and told her I live in Wisconsin and I requested a label with my newly purchase heels. Very odd phone experience.
Today, I received a call at 11 from a guy at this company. I was half asleep (second shift worker here) so I didn't catch his name. He stated he could "organize" a UPS pickup for my items I want to sell. I understand the convenience but this is starting to sound incredibly strange, almost like a drug deal or something. Also seems a little too aggressive and off-putting with trying to obtain my consigned items. No thanks, The RealReal. Just by reading reviews, I'll have better luck with selling on eBay.
I recently made a purchase. I have no reason to doubt the authenticity of the product that will arrive (fingers' crossed), but I still wouldn't endorse them or shop there again. Their site fails to note the shipping country of origin, such that there can be significant duties to actually receive your product. The effect is that the price is way more than anticipated and, in my case I was preferring to shop within Canada and support a domestic sale, that wasn't achieved either.
Having had several experiences consigning couture and luxury items... beware if you have high-end items. They do not research prices, supply/demand, current trends, etc., They attach a "give-away" price and your commission is 30% on an item that was reduced to 20% once sold. Example. I sold a brand new, up-to date Akris Punto jacket retailing 1295. For 72. And my commission was 23.00. WOW! In addition, they do not honor price approval even though designated when submitted to for sale. They took a CHANEL chain belt and listed as a necklace with photos and all. I go go on and on and on and on. Bottom line is this... don't waste your money, time or energy on a farce of a company that spends more time on the website improvements rather than staff improvements to correct the many issues this company has. YOU'LL LOSE SO MUCH MONEY IN THE SALE OF YOUR NICE ITEMS BECAUSE SOME PRICING IDIOT DOESNT KNOW THE MARKET OR DEMAND.

I recommend
In December, I submitted a question regarding the ring I purchased — I requested valuation documentation like a received with another ring I purchased at the same time. As of 2/15, I haven't gotten a response.
First an LAST purchase was 2014; took purse to gucci store an was told it WAS A FAKE!
IT'S ALL A FRAUD KEEP YOUR MONEY!
Just recently made my first purchases from The Real Real, and I could not have been more disappointed! The first bag I received had a huge security tag still inside of it, and their suggestion was to bring it to the nearest store… over 6 hours away! Secondly, I purchased a item listed and priced as a wallet, and once I received the "wallet", it turns out to be a key holder which is listed for half the price I paid for it brand new on the designers website! I ended up shamefully asking a friend that works at a local department store to help find a way to cut the security tag off, and returned my "wallet" but I had to pay the return shipping of course because I was responsible for their incorrect description and lack of pictures. I cannot believe how awful my first experience with this company was! I would never recommend to a friend or family member. Such a waste of time!
Products were authentic which is the only reason I gave 2 stars.
This company quoted us for a fur coat at over 1000 dollar sell price then proceeded to change the price and sell it for only 300 without telling us. They took a 50% commission on top of that. When asked about how they could do this they mentioned some hidden term in the contract. Do not trust and do not consign.
The product I ordered two months ago was not in accordance with the pictures shown on the website and an essential part of the luxury purchase was not included. I have been trying to get hold of customer service 5 times, but the only reply I get is that it will take 48 hours to get back to me. But they never respond in person. I have lost my patient with this company and I will never order from The Real Real again!
Good store, good choice, good quality, excellent service and fast delivery, thank you I am satisfied with your purchase will buy more
I purchased a Giorgio Armani sweater and when ready to launder it, discovered there were no care instructions (typically attached in a small white label to clothing). I hand washed it and the label came off- I own other GA garments. Nice sweater but definitely a forge-io Armani. Done w/TRR!
I bought a 3x womens blouse online, when it came it was small enough to fit on a 10 yr old girl! Very deceptive! They would take it back initially, but finally agreed to, but I have to pay to ship the blouse back! My first time buying from this site, and this whole experience has been very disappointing to say the least. Never again
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. She is available from 9am to 6pm (EST) and of course you can reach us via email at: [email protected].
Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
