I have been sending some clothes into the real real to be consigned. Sometimes, they would make silly errors in listings or list things too low. However, they rejected a large chunk of my items (some of which were in PERFECT condition) and just threw them in a box and returned them to me. All my clothes are wrinkled and now i have to send them back to pressed so I can list them on ebay. Seriously considering never sending them another item again
I've consigned a few things with The Real Real and have had nothing but issues. The amount of additional fees they take is really disappointing. There is always some "small print" that benefits them. I would not recommend selling through this site. It may seem more high end than some of the other consignment sites but the payout won't be worth the hassle.
I am from Australia and had quite a few issues that were not what I expected with unexpected costs, items not been in the condition stated and overall not to the standard I'd expect. However, each and every issue was addressed and The Real Real were just amazing in the effort they went to to make things right. This is what you want from a company. There was a Caitlin who was particularly helpful. I was very happy in the end. Thank you guys. Dr Riy
It was my first--and last--time consigning with the Real Real. I made an appointment with a rep in San Francisco. She was real real late. And she was real real cagey. When she first arrived, I asked her how long she had been with the company. She said 2 years. After we started going through my clothing items, I asked her how she was able to give me pricing so quickly. She said it was because she had been with the company "a long time." I felt like I was being scammed. Needless to say, I decided not to consign.
I have both bought things and sent things to sell and I have had a very hard time with them. I sent very very expensive items they sold for dirt cheap prices that I had no control over. They also rejected very nice things but yet sell crap at times. When I say crap let me explain that I bought a prada wallet that had chocolate inside, the prada label had the word milano upside down and I believe it was 100% fake.
I bought a prada purse that was described in excellent condition but the strap was ripped in the leather, the bottom had black stains and inside there was at least 6 pen marks I was devastated and they would not return it
I would just skip this company all together
When you call customer service, they put you on hold for a long time and then as you move up in que, the phone cuts off. When you call back immediately, you are back down in the que and put on hold again for a long time. We bought a Cartier watch from this site that said the condition was very good, but the watch didn't keep time and didn't work. We tried to get it repaired by sending it to their watch repair person, but we got the run around for three weeks and the repair was never made so we returned the watch. I also bought a dress that said very good condition, but when I received it, it had several large moth holes under the arm and on the side and back.
I have purchased a few items and have also sold several items. I realized that they are quite a legitimate site when they came to retrieve my items. RR was thorough when itemizing and photographing items. They also gave me detailed list of my items that where sellable along with pricing. They only took items that where in excellent condition.
I think people tend to forget that these items we purchase are NOT new and they have been gently worn. Although, I did purchase a LV and it was brand new... at least it looked that way. I had it Authenticated by LV it was from an earlier collection and have had great compliments on the piece.
Delivery takes an entire week. I can't say I didn't love everything I bought. The pictures are exactly what I received.
The Real Real was highly recommended as a site to sell my almost new clothing. One is better off donating to charity or taking to a high end consignment shop. I paid $1800 for a designer dress in May 2014. I wore the dress once. The Real Real listed it on their site for $140. I received 60% of the sale price. When I asked how they decide the price, it was like speaking to "VERIZON". All well practiced answers even though the question wasn't answered. If you want to SELL your clothing, run away from the REAL REAL. I was about to add that I've heard they do much better with accessories however after reading the most recent reviews, it seems as though the REAL REAL sells many fakes. Again, take your clothing to someone who sells on ebay, or to a high end consignment store. You will come out ahead.
Realreal chose almost 30 items to sell for me. One bag was in perfect condition when it left my bouse but when they posted it for sale it had black scuff marks covering one side of the bag. I asked them to repair or compensate me for the damage. They refused.
Received a fake Chanel and they were to quick to respond and willing to help... but shouldn't all this hassle have been avoided by having the items actually authenticated before selling? Their "authentication services" seem to be either too lax or completely nonexistent because I was able to tell the item I received was a fake at first glance.
Really nice products, good customer service, authentic items.
I have dealt with this company for almost two years. I have sold and bought many things from this company for about at least $30,000. But I only have one conclusion, I won't deal with this company again. This company will disappoint you a lot.
Absolutely boggles my mind they are asking retail or above retail for items that can be easily located in store. Prices used to be goods with more flexibility with coupons. Rarely find anything these days as I rather just pay full price. I think it's only a matter of time before they go out of business.
Based on my experience with them, everything is good. Products, so far, are very much authentic and customer service is very helpful. I bought a Gucci messenger bag and a Prada Zip-around wallet from them recently. Everything is authentic and a very reasonable price, considering the conditions. Will definitely continue shopping TheRealReal.
Bought a pair of Repetto a few days ago and now I've been told the shoes are not available due to "an error in their inventory system". Really? Definitely not happy and will most likely not buy from them again.
Has anyone out there consigned designer watches? Would like to hear comments. I'm concerned about sending them off & them not getting online or sold at a ridiculously low price in one of their sales. They said they would even replace batteries at no cost to me. My question also is…. Are the people who handle the hi end watches reliable? I've had to send my watches to Switzerland for batteries in the past - to maintain their authenticity.
I'm a loyal customer for now. I received some fake Louboutins, but they effortlessly took them back (even after 1 month). Once I received a nonreturnable Miu Miu bag in hideous shape, and they also took that back. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars with them. Never had a problem with customer service.
But in agreement with another reviewer, the prices have gone up so high in the past two months, I am not so sure this will be usual shopping spot anymore. I used to buy Louboutins for $450 (plus 20% off), but now they are listing used Loubs for $695, which is uh, higher than the list price at Neiman. Only very old and outdated items are reasonably priced now.
If only my grandma were into luxury labels, she would probably find some nice things here.
I had discovered the site weeks ago and went on a shopping spree. The prices were so good and with 100% guarantee that items were authentic! I trusted the site seeing that people constantly bought from them and consigned to them. And they were international too! My last order with them turned out to be a fake prada sweater in terrible condition. The measurements don't even match up. I decided to do a search on their authenticity and as it turns out, many have gotten fakes from them and they even have proof of their poor judgment of authentic goods. Extremely disappointed and I can't even return the pathetic knock off I paid $90 for because of their no returns policy. Thank goodness I hadn't checked out the $500 chanel shoes. Never going back to them ever again. I hope first timers see this before wasting their money on pathetic China knock offs!
I have purchased several items from the realreal and they sell LOTS of fakes. The last item I sent back was a pair of Versace shoes, the bag was completely stained due to the fake dye on the shoes, the label was cricket, one shoe was smaller than the other (pictures below). I emailed them and asked them to provide me with the authenticity information and they were not able to (obviously). As this came across the border I had to pay duties and lost money!
I am 100% positive they do not authenticate items before posting them. I have also seen various louboutin's and they are 100% fake as the sole and style of some of the shoes are a dead giveaway (pictures below).
If you like Authentic pieces DO NOT buy from this website.
*I just added a few screenshot photos that are currently on the website, these are all fake louboutins (took me 1 min to find, many more on the website). I own a few loubs and the soles on all these shoes confirm they're replicas. Also one of them isn't even labelled properly, as all CL's say "paris" inside the shoe.
The last few photos are the versace shoes that were sent to me, please note the cricket label, the different cuts in the shoes (both shoes are not cut the same), stained bag. Etc.
I was extremely excited when I first discovered TheRealReal and within the first six weeks of discovering the site I spent thousands of dollars purchasing designer handbags and shoes. I then decided to consign some of my own items and scheduled an in home visit from one of their representatives. The representative we very pleasant but she didn't give me prices on the spot and didn't closely look at any of my items- she simply packed them in a bag and took them off with her. TheRealReal representative that came to my home told me that I would receive a consignment inventory list by the following day - It took her 10 days to email me this list! When I finally received this list, I felt they undervalued my items and I asked for one item to be returned to me, a pair of almost brand new Chanel sandals. This is where the real problems started! Instead of returning my Chanel sandals, they mailed me a blouse that was not mind. When I called customer service regarding this, they asked me to mail the top back and casually told me they would look into locating my Chanel sandals. After a few days elapsed, I had to followup with customer service who told me their warehouse had lost my Chanel sandals. It has now been 12 days since TheRealReal lost my Chanel sandals and they have done NOTHING to rectify the situation. The woman who I have been emailing with at customer service sends me nasty, snarky emails, and has been refusing to refund me the full amount of my shoes even though I was told that consigned items are fully insured. It is impossible to speak with someone at customer service because no one ever answers the phone!
It's really unfortunate that Therealreal has done nothing to fix this situation because they have now lost me as a buyer and a seller.
I urge you to think twice before buying or selling on this site. If you run into any problems, do not expect any customer service or resolution. TheRealReal clearly does not value it's customers.
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
