I'm out almost $1000. I paid for a handbag. The pictures are nothing like the actual item. They dress them up, plump them with fillers. The description is not honest. I was burned. Do your research.
Bought a Prada bag that was said it is in perfect conditions: anticipation ended when DHL delivery guy arrived. I open the box and the buckle was at the bottom of the box! I took the bag out to find that the zipper is broken. Forget about the buckle you could hardly open and close the zipper!
We had paid 35 dollars for courier and nearly 100 for customs and duties which I can never get back we are still talking to them to see if we can get refund
The company has very quietly changed its policies - return shipping is now the cost of the customer, items don't match the size specifications listed on the website, merchandise is not in good shape and now only take a handful of brands for pants eliminating one of the highest quality and expensive brands - Akris and Akris Punto. Customer service also doesn't respond to questions asked. Couldn't even get a RMA email resent to me after I told them I never received the first one. Said they can't resend. Was a big fan initially and now will not buy again.
This company has some great products it offers. The staff is extremely articulate in their ability to deliver product knowledge etc. but at times can seem extremely disorganized especially when it comes to communicating with customers.
Spent $1100 for a LV handbag which was described as great condition. I was so excited to get my first "real" LV bag until I opened the box and noticed a musty smell right off the bat! I thought once I let it air out and a little perfume it should be fine, however I can still occasionally smell that musty old smell. The most upsetting thing was as I was so excited exploring my big purchase I looked inside and in the pocket was a huge ink stain! I couldn't believe they would send something like this out especially for the amount of money I paid and not one word was mentioned nor shown in the pics. As time went on it dawned on me there are no authentication numbers printed inside anywhere and to my knowledge I think all LV purses have a stamped number to prove its authenticity? If anyone knows for sure can you please let me know. I really want to know if I got completely taken for over a $1000. 00! I never ever have purchased anything this expensive online but I truly thought The RealReal was legit... so sad :(
First I loved the site. I ordered a Prada bag and it was perfect. Then I decided to order a wool cardigan, A silk dress (as was mentioned in perfect condition no signs of wear) and a pair of flip-flops and a leather belt and size M. I open the package and what did I find? Cardigan was torn in two places, the dress was frankly old, the flip-flops were one size smaller, and a leather belt turned pvc, size xs. I sent all the stuff back in the day, but therealreal refused to take them back, said they doubt their authenticity. I have spent on these things more than 500 dollars. Never got my money back.
Received the grossest dirtiest Gucci bag in the mail... and to add insult to injury the bag is a fake. I took it to my respected designer resale shop in manhattan. Not that I needed to it looks like a piece of dirty cardboard.
1st call to the Real Real I was put on hold then hung up on me.
2nd call to the Real Real (TRR): Spoke to a very condescending rude associate. She told me that I would have to take photos and email them to customer service. When I asked if I could speak to her manager she told me she was in a conference... right.
These people are a joke!
I sent over pictures of all the disgusting food marks all over the bag and they said" the description matches. Eww! I would have never bought a bag with yellow food stains all over it
Called back a third time and spoke to another unpleasant person. Again when I asked to speak to a manager I was told she was in a meeting.
Reporting to the better business bureau! Recommend everyone else does! Please don't shop here!
Therealreal.com really has the most unhelpful and rude customer service staff? A major turn-off. Item descriptions not as accurate as they should be, especially measurements!
This site is just good if you want to let have wide exposure to your consignment items. This place is not good if you think (or assume) you can sell your item (even though you see the EXACT same item on the website). The customer service person I spoke with made some lame excuse that it depends on how long the item has been on consignment on the website. Isn't that the point of consignment anyway (to sell designer goods)? You can't assume that your items will be accepted regardless if you see the same item on the website and the condition is excellent or very good. Now I have to pay for return ground shipping because this site is not accepting the item that they claim is not part of their designer list. (Hello... there are over 130 items from this designer)!
As an aside, I bought a LV dark brown scarf for over $500. What I got back was less than acceptable. There was a 3" green lighlighter pen mark (similar to a sharpie) in one of the corners and when the scarf was held to the light it was threadbare. There were so many pulls in the fabric. This had a to be sent back AND I had to pay for return shipping back. I bought a pair of LV Kitten heels and they were supposed to be a size 10. It was actually a size 7 but it was "mismarked" and probably a fake. I had to pay for return shipping on that item also. After my current consignment sells I refuse to do business with this site any longer.
I get that there are many employees who work for this site. Where is the consistency? The concept appears to be better than the reality. Fancy website, sucky service and consistency.
I spent so much hard earned money on 2 handbags that were not as pictured. The Louis Vuitton had 2 rips that were disguised in the picture and the Marc Jacobs was just really run down. I tried to sell it back and they wouldn't accept the handbags I had just purchased! Also, they had so many bad reviews on Yelp, they were allowed to have the whole business taken down. (Speaks volumes to Yelp)! Really disappointing!
I agree, this is a great concept but only for The RealReal. I purchased a Jason Wu dress from the site and when I tried it on, it did not fit me right. It was sold through their Final Sale so I could not return it. Their policy does state that you can send it back for re-assignment though. After trying on the dress, I placed it in a box that I was getting ready to send for consignment with a bunch of other items. They received my stuff, however, when I received the confirmation that my items were approved, the Jason Wu dress was rejected. I contacted The RealReal customer service to be told that there was a stain on the inside of the dress and they would not accept it back for re-consignment. I advised them that I only tried it on and that if there was a stain on there, then that was how they sold it to me. Nope, they would not budge and insinuated that I was the one that caused the stain. Are you kidding me? I purchased the dress not 3 weeks ago... unbelievable. I requested all of my consignment items back as I will no longer doing business with The RealReal. And the really funny thing is that I just received the dress back and I cannot find that stain anywhere on the dress! I would also like to say that they low-ball the items and give you a fraction of the profit. Keep your consignment items and sell them on Ebay! They have no consistency in regards to describing items and pricing them. I plan to stay as far away from them as I can.
Tried the RealReal - ordered two dresses from a brand I wear regularly and love. One item was described as "Very Good" (and was a mess - frayed seams all over the dress, pilling everywhere), the other "Excellent" was so faded that it would have been unwearable.
The two stars are because of the quick response of customer service upon requesting a return.
It's BS that they charge you for shipping both ways but that's the way they do business.
I'm kinda right in the middle between being really mad and kinda happy. The Chloe bag that I bought was not described properly and could have very well been unusable if I hadn't of put some effort (and been VERY lucky) into fixing the flaws. The zippers were stuck and by stuck, I mean one side is pretty unusable. There was a pen mark that wasn't visible in the pictures or mentioned under the "very good" condition section. Luckily it's not visible when I carry the bag. It took me 10 minutes of pulling on each zipper to get them unstuck. It took pure determination and a ton of cussing. There is also a missing fob off of the bag that was not mentioned. Luckily I was able to fix what was wrong and able to hide the unfixable flaws that were not pictured or described. I can say with 100% certainty that it is authentic, so that's a positive. However, I highly doubt I'll take another chance ordering from this site. This was my dream bag and now I have it. I'm not going to push my luck.
After repeatedly emailing the luxury manager who sent a messenger to pick up my stuff, her manager eventually emailed me to tell me they lost all 15 pieces that I sent them and that they would be reimbursing me once they check security cameras. She also mentioned she would provide me with a site credit in the meantime, which has not appeared in my account.
Another friend also had this happen to her and said she has not been reimbursed in three months.
I sent several items to be consigned on August 31. I was told I'd receive 60% commission. The items were listed and they sold $1428 in the month of September. Strangely one of my items, a $425 Burberry coat was not listed for sale for a month. I had to email to get them to list it. On my online account it listed my commission as 60% which would be paid on October 15. Suddenly on October 1 the online account showed 55% commission. It stated that I needed to sell $72 more to be entitled to the 60% commission- any amount under that would be 55%. I contacted customer service and was told that they changed their policy on October 1. Clearly bait and and switch! How can they change our commission agreement retroactively? Why did they hold back an item to make it difficult to reach the minimum? I'm fighting it but it does not appear that they are trustworthy.
I bought a Chanel bag from TRR (SKU -- CHA*******) Order number R******* in 2019. I was not using the bag, so several months ago I decide to consign it, and sent it to TRR. TRR immediately returned the bag, which TRR originally sold me, saying it was not authentic.
I called Consignor relations and was issued a return label. I was told I would receive a refund of the $2,162.49. The bag was received by TRR, but I have never received my refund. They have my bag AND my payment. This is illegal.

It happens I have the authentic one to compare with, so I'm pretty sure this is a counterfeit. Those stars look "fuzzier" on the authentic Chanel cardigan (because of using "real" mohair), and the shape on the fake one is just off. Unlike the authentic one, the material on this knockoff looks thinner and cheaper. Plus, the fabric/style tag is removed? What a coincidence? Usually they put a wrong style number and color code on a fake fabric tag, so we know right away that is a fake. I guess there must be a reason why it is removed. Actually this is not the only counterfeit I found from this company. I wonder if their authenticity team is really up to the standard?
A fake Hermes Medor belt sold by this company. It looks on the pics stainless steel and guess what? It was! All Hermes belt has the hardware with platinum clad this one I bet was from china not worth 380 USD. Plus shipping. What a shame! Scam!
I would have otherwise been perfectly happy with the service, delivery, and quality of the dress but unfortunately the dress has large holes in it. I have emailed twice over the past week, with no reply. Would not buy from this company nor recommend to any friends
EDIT: TheRealReal have since provided me with the necessary funds as requested to fix the holes in the pockets
Guys, I decided to write a review as I recently got a fake Valentino shoes from them. I purchased one black Valentino shoes from the actual Valentino store and I really wanted another one with the same design in tanned brown color, so I ordered a brown one from The RealReal. I was so excited to get the shoes from The RealReal with a reasonable price, but what happened? The ones that I got from The RealReal are fake! I love designers shoes handbags and outfits, and I have taken few fibers and fashion classes from art schools, so I have some sense of comparing designs of products. I was so disappointed how the one I got was so, I mean radically, different from the original ones. I could see that the fake shoes' external ornaments were so poorly imitated that I was so disappointed. I will NEVER ORDER ANYTHING FROM THIS STORE! THE REALREAL IS SUCH A FRAUGHT!
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
