Jamilla really just went above and beyond customer service. Such great help and understanding. Thank you for helping me feel less stressed about the mistake I made and for fixing everything so quickly! I really appreciate everything!
The worst consignment website I have ever purchased from. Never again. Ladies & gentlemen if you want to buy from a sight selling 5 year old garments as "BRAND NEW" then you will love the real real as that is my exact experience! False fraudulent advertising is never okay. My leather skirt has become faulty after only a few wears, finding out from the designer, Lover, personally that the clothes they are telling you are brand new, which are in fact half a decade old, explains why my 'new' skirt has fallen apart.
Shocking service, you guys are the WORST.
She was very helpful. She had it shipped to me that same day and even called again to tell me it was sent.
Hello Michelle,
Thank you for sharing your feedback!
We appreciate your business and look forward to you shopping with us again soon!
Top notch customer service! Jamillah B was kind, patient, provided all of the information that I needed and took care of my inquiries extremely quickly.
Hello Ludmila,
Thank you for sharing that great feedback!
We hope to do business with you in the future!
I purchased a purple label Ralph Lauren shirt on sale, NWT. I inspected it thoroughly, however, in hindsight I should have checked the functionality of the zipper many times over. Unfortunately, on the forth unzipping and preparing to wear the shirt, the zipper broke. It cannot be fixed and I have asked many seamstresses, who say the whole zipper needs to be replaced. A cost and a plight I am not prepared to undertake. I wrote customer service and they refuse to take the shirt back (the tags are still attached). But they offered me a $15 credit to buy more of their BS. I wrote them back, declining the offer of $15 and explained that they have now knowingly sold me damaged and defective clothing under the guise of "new." No one returned my email. I have a tracker on my emails, I know the inside sales team opened it one hour after I sent it. The RealReal is a cheating, lying, smiling at you while they have their hand in your pocket kind of company. I have lovingly dubbed it "The StealStea".
I've been going in circles with another customer service associate via email regarding removing charges that I wasn't responsible for.
I finally gave up and called to speak with someone directly. The downside to calling is having to wait forever, but Jamillah was able to resolve my issue right away.
Emailing customer service for any issues or concerns may work for some people, but it didn't for me. I got nowhere with the person I was dealing with and I have yet to get a response... 2 weeks later. Good thing I called.
Thank you Jamillah.
Hello Tracy,
Thank you for sharing that feedback.
We are happy to hear that she was able to resolve the issue quickly and efficiently!
This is the 2nd time I've had an issue w/ therealreal.com and knock off handbags. I've only shopped here twice.
The second incident involves a Tod's Handbag. I'm not extremely familiar w/ Tod's but I expected the leather to be buttery soft and indicative of high-quality (similar to the Alexander Wang bag I own). The moment I opened the box and pulled the bag off I knew it was a bad knock-off. Thin, fake OR really poor quality leather, a chemical scent, cheap knock off canvas interior AND a card board bottom placed between the canvas and bottom of leather. I just don't think this was inspected at all, how could this have passed inspection by an expert when I (not an expert) was able to tell right off the bat that this was a fake (and not even a good one).
It's disheartening to think you're getting a quality item and then not receive what you're expecting. I think that Realreal needs to update their inspection process w/ consignments because this is a disservice to their customers.
I want to add an update to this review.
I was able to return the Tod's bag to the Realreal, which is great. The bag had a no return policy but it was inspected and determined to be fake, so they issued a full refund. Here's the clincher, though. The BAG KNOWN TO BE A FAKE is listed again on their site and stated to be authentic. See link below.
https://www.therealreal.com/products/women/handbags/shoulder-bags/tods-leather-shoulder-bag-WwFvUVOvke8-nBbQ3qSO61M
There are numerous accounts here of The Real Real selling fakes, and if you want more, go search The Purse Forum for the company's name + fake. Not only do they sell fakes, they re-list fakes after they've been notified. Disgusting.
I made the mistake of consigning some authentic goods of my own, under the assumption that they would list them for comparable prices to the ones the list the same items for all the time. How wrong I was. The idiots that work there can't tell the difference between an evening gown and a maxi dress, and I ended up with less than $120 for a $4500 Alexander McQueen dress.
These people want your items to sell in bulk to line their pockets. They will do anything to make even a single dollar. Steer clear of these devious people!
Jamila is an excellent example of top notch customer service. She is an excellent representation of The Real Real
Hello Elizabeth,
Thank you for sharing your feedback!
We look forward to working with you in the future!
Purchased a Gucci Handbag final sale item. It looked dirty. For almost $500 I expected better. Final sale no returns. I was tried of trying to reach customer service.
I'm not a rich women. I will save for a new one. The pics looked so much better then the Real Real.
I want to thank Alyson T. For her assistance in confirming the comments listed on a merchandise description was confirmed to not be so by taking additional images of the merchandise and sending it to me, which permitted me to make a final decision. The item was still for sale and I was able to buy it. This was my third call in to inquire about the merchandise and she was certain to make it happen on her own. I'm grateful for her passion and assistance in making it all happen. Keep up the great work in making a difference to all whom you come into contact with.
Hello Kenya,
Thank you for sharing that great feedback!
We hope you enjoy your purchase!
I was new to theRealReal and I placed an order yesterday, however, an email notification woke me up this morning stating that my order has been canceled, with no explanation for the reason. So I went ahead to check the items which I ordered, and found out that theRealReal is still listing them for sale on its site. So those items are still in stock. I then checked with my credit card company, it looks like everything was fine with my payment and theRealReal has already charged me since yesterday as shown as a pending transaction on my account. I then tried to order again and the system won't let me go through. This is for sure an issue from theRealReal system, not a payment issue from my end. I took all the screenshots and now I'm emailing the RealReal for an explanation. I have never used this site before so I didn't aware of all the negative reviews on here. I hope theRealReal can get back to me so I can update my first-hand review.
I had a great experience with customer service. They solved my problem and took care of it immediately. They even called me back within 10 minutes.
Hi Sonia,
Thank you for taking your time to share your recent experience.
We are pleased to hear this was quickly handled. We look forward to assisting you in the future!
The is a horrible site with even worse costumer service! I purchased a YSL purse and wallet and both were OBVIOUS fakes. When I emailed them regarding my concerns they ignored every single email.
Also, its very interesting that they only seem to have two costumer service reps that these customers keep referencing as if theyve had some good customer service. BS!
Fake products and fake positive reviews. Steer very clear!
The Realreal has massive problems. Sold an item that was a great deal, but kept the money for a week and then admitted they did not have the item. It could take an hour to get through to customer service-- endless hold-- so most people just give up. The customer service supervisor Scott refused to get on phone and told the poor operator to say he left for the weekend. It took me many hours of holding on 7 calls from Europe without really any satisfaction-- a credit on a much worse purchase-- and no senior person ever contacting me.
This is the final update for my case. I sadly didn't get any help or response from theRealReal to be refunded until the case was closed by PayPal. On the next day I got a provisional refund from PayPal, I got the final notice again from PayPal that the case was finally closed in favor of me because they also didn't get any response from theRealReal. Now I'm relieved that I successfully retrieve all the refund, and also am really sure I will never go back to theRealReal.
By the way, because I needed to come back to this site to update my review, I noticed that either good and bad reviews are being added often. But I doubt if the good reviews were made by real customers. I can't help but am skeptical if they're made by the people inside theRealReal to balance good and bad reviews to keep the total rating star to be in the middle. Who wants to be a first time reviewer here to leave a good review after he/she was helped by customer service personnel? I think most of the reviewers here visited here for the first time when they had some kind of troubles with some shops/companies just like me. I just can't get that there are lots of good reviews just saying " ~~ (at the customer service) is helpful/awesome!" about theRealReal.
On 6/28 I filed the 2 cases to PayPal. One case was closed by an immediate refund after PayPal reached theRealReal. But I still had been awaited for another case to be solved regarding this return. (I returned 4 return eligible items from 2 orders(transactions). So I needed to file 2 cases to get all refunded.)
Later 6/28 I wrote a review here and then theRealReal contacted me for the first time by using sitejabber's response message. We exchanged several messages, but no single his saying soothed me at all.
On 7/2 theRealReal sent me an email that tells me they received my return package. (They state in the website that they will send a message soon after they receive a return package. My package actually reached there 6/21, and didn't get a single message till 7/2.)
Later on 7/2 they sent me 3 emails again that 3 return items are processed and the refund will be posted within next 5 business days. (Actually I returned 4 items and what's going on with 1 left item? Also 7/2 is the 8th business day since my return package was delivered to them. The associate who I exchanged some messages here said that the return process takes up to 5 business days to be undergone after the acceptance of the package, though that statement itself can not be seen anywhere at their website, and where is that 5 days policy? Also I had already received the refund over one of two transactions, and they didn't recognize it?)
On 7/8, I got an email from PayPal that tells me the provisional refund was issued because they didn't get any response from theRealReal."Provisional"? They say that if the refund is denied later (by the seller) then the refund will be taken off from the account. The result is still frustrating. Of course I didn't get any refund posted from theRealReal directly.
Well, I can't help but think that this company has lots of problem with their system. I only am positive with their usual quick shipping. But lots of doubt regarding no response to repeatedly made inquiries, miscommunications between their branches, quite long waiting time before the phone is connected to the customer service (are there that many customers who need to talk to their associates?), and so on. I have already cancelled my first look membership just after I filed the cases. And now I just want to void my account with them, but they don't offer the way how to do it!
She was so helpful and pleasant to work with. This is my first interaction with The Real Real, and what a great impression she made.
Hello Kacy,
Thank you for sharing your feedback!
We look forward to working with you in the future!
I have been contacted real real for many many times, they charge sales charge when I bought the bag from Australia, and they did not pay to the shipping company, and the custom charging me again. So I asked either give me refund of sales tax or pay Australian custom. They do not reply my email or get back to me. What a company. If they dont care about customer, their business will never grow. Dont buy from here!
Jamillah was so great, quick and made my shopping experience stress free. She was able to help resolve my issue and was so kind and professional!

Hi Chris,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your recent experience with us.

Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. She is available from 9am to 6pm (EST) and of course you can reach us via email at: [email protected].
Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
