I paid $0.95 for a single search only to discover a few weeks later that an amount of $24.95 has additionally been taken via my Paypal account. There is no clear or obvious mention of having to join a subscription service on their main page whereby this lack of transparency contravenes the UK and EU Consumer subscription laws. I have asked Paypal to reverse the payment and have notified my bank who have advised will back me up on this. I have also emailed Spokeo our laws regarding subscriptions and my demand for full return of unauthorised transfer of funds.

I was looking for an email address for a person, which was marked as present, but after I paid 2 dollars, it immediately disappears, I't was the first fraud, but after one week I was charged 25 dollars for nothing!

Do not waste your time or money, the only information these people have access to is what's in the phone book, they can not even look up public records of any kind, it's a scam and a lie to get you to spend extra money and get hooked into a reacuring monthly payment, I know for a fact is doesn't work, looking at court documents and trying to look up anything on this site and your told "sorry no results for" or youre able to see their current address. That's all... Go ahead and pay the top dollar for all their extras if you doubt me, because I did like a absolute jack***... And it is not real... Sorry for the brutal honesty it just really irritates me they can get away with this kind of thing in this day & age.

I did one search it was supposed to cost me $0.95 a few days later they pulled $24.95 out of my account. I was able to get back half of the $24.95 that's their policy

Spokeo will take your personal info and post it to your account regardless of your request not to. While I entered my name and info for billing purposes, the account was just under my email. However, once I called regarding subscription, the rep asked for my name and tel number. Apparently, he did not have my name and telephone number because he said it could have been different from billing info. I gave my name and requested it not be used to name the account. I did not give my telephone number. I only use my email. Once call ended, l checked the account. What do I see? The account under my name instead of email address, and my phone number. I never gave him my phone number. So, he applied my name to the account and my telephone number despite my request not to. When I called back, both rep and supv said they would remove the telephone number, but not my name. This is some sneaky under handed way for them to get additional info about people. And then they posted more info about me on their spokeo website than I have ever seen before. This info was not there before I gave my name. I have never seen that much info about the people I searched. So, if you give all of your info, it will be used against you!

I ordered a one-time $0.95 search of phone number. One month later I received a surprise auto billing of $24.95 on my PayPal account. There was NO obvious language that they'd be auto billing me. I have emailed them and have gotten no response yet. I see on this website that this is a common complaint.

I really like Spokeo, and it has served me well.
However, when I logged in yesterday, I was asked to update my CC info. When I did I was immediately charged $177, instead of the $70.80 annual fee I had been paying, with no prior notice. Even when I logged in the screen showed that the fee was $70.80, but that the 2022 fee would be $177. I then received a message from my credit card statement saying that there was a $177 charge from Spokeo. The 'pending' charge still shows on my CC statement today, even though I called Spokeo and had them cancel the paid subscription IMMEDIATELY.

I wanted to try the service and search on myself for $0.95. They had an incorrect address for me, and not a lot of other information compared to other sites that have how much my salary is, address, my relatives, where I work, etc. I was like, "it was worth a try for $. 95." But then... I get a bill for a monthly service.
Nothing on the phishing email stating this is a monthly membership. The phishing site said $. 95 for a search. Nothing about stating this will auto bill every month. 7 days later, I get an email about thanks for joining a monthly service. What? I called them, and they said, didn't you read the 7 page email saying you signed up? Its at the bottom in small fine print after 6 pages of marketing glossies. I called them, and they would not refund the monthly membership. They said I signed up for it and my fault for not reading every line on every page to validate the trial. I said, "This was not a trial. This was a $. 95 search i agreed to, and not a monthly service."
Lessons learned. I also should have looked at the reviews on this site too. With a 2 star rating, I can see why. Don't trust anyone or anything and read every line of every page that someone sends to you in an email. Anytime you pay for anything, ensure that no auto billing occurs. Marketing for companies are getting better and better. Hiding details, Moving things to small fine print on the last page. Having a checkbox appear to agree to a search for $. 95, but then that checkbox really means signing up for a service. Wow, congrats on sneaking billing through. Again, don't trust anyone or anything.

I bought a 7 day trial and it auto signed me up for a reoccurring subscription. It said nothing about this when I bought the trial. After paying for the trial, if I wanted access to the information I actually bought the trial for, marriage records, I had to pay more. What a rip off!

I searched online for someone, and stumbled onto this "service". Got the one search for $0.99 charge. Most of the phone numbers they provided are obsolete numbers. I had to hunt and finally got one good number of a relative of that person that I looked for.
A few days later, they charge me the auto renew monthly charge of $25. I had to call them, and had the service cancelled and money refunded after a "hold" on the phone.
Since they refunded me, I will give them a two stars instead of one. Nobody likes these hidden auto subscription bullS. On the internet. They said it in the email. How about you put that in bold and prominent on the website. Stay away. You don't need this.

Answer: Watch for the $20 charge at the end of the month. They say a person is out, then the charge comes a month later. Had to cancel my card and get new # to keep them out of my wallet.
Answer: Three alternatives: 1) Logon with you old Spokeo account and contact customer support. 2) If you can't remember your old logon, 2.1) try a google search to find Spokeo customer service link or telephone number. 2.2) Spokeo has notes on some reviews. Maybe they have included their support number or link? 3) Call Visa and ask them to kill the Spokeo charges to your Visa account.

Answer: I cancelled Spokeo service due to selling me misinformation or inaccurate information. I got this in writing from David at Spokeo. They are good about sending a letter about we are sorry about not meeting your expectations. Our terms of use states we can do this blah blah blah. After I cancelled this subscription and got this in writing from David, I got a new debit card from my bank. Spokeo found the NEW CARD and charged it. I took the problem to my bank and got a credit. Be very careful of these people, watch your bank statements.
