Southtree has done a great job of transferring my old VHS tapes to DVD's. The quality is excellent and I have been very pleased with the results. I highly recommend this company.
The quality was absolutely amazing. I am so very happy with my decision to go with Southtree. They kept me advised almost weekly on the progression of my order. If I find any more that I want changed over, they will be the ones to do it.
Liked their update reports along the way. Just wished it didn't take so long. I think they did a great job considering the 8mm film i sent was almost 50 years old. Will definitely use them again
I placed my order on November 5,2020. I received nothing in the mail so on December 5,202, I called and was told it was a cliche in the system... interestingly the cliche didn't impact you collecting the money. He said you will receive it in the next few days. Still nothing so I called today and more excuses - I have requested a refund - I'll see if I have file a fraud claim with credit card company if they fail to return my money in a timely manner.
Could not have been happier. Great experience. I plan to send more tapes soon to have them converted. *******

Old video tapes were digitized to a thumb drive. Great to view the old tapes to remember family members in years past. It took a few weeks but they keep you informed during their process. No problems at all with the service.
These guys are fantastic communicators. Got emails all along the way to keep me posted as they worked through my stuff so I always knew what was going on. Even left me a sweet hand-written note in the box. I've never seen a company do that. Delivered perfectly on time, the video files were digitized wonderfully. I'll absolutely use these guys again. I had no idea what was on some of my old tapes — it was such a shocking surprise to see a good friend who had suddenly and tragically passed away a few years ago. We were just kids playing... I sat and cried for an hour watching those old videos. It was such a beautiful moment. These guys and the service they do rocks!
I had been putting off digitizing my VCR tapes for a long time. A great deal presented itself so I gave it a try. So glad I did. I will be sending in more very soon.
Took over half a year to get my 9 Hi-8 video and 1 audio cassettes digitized and the quality after the long wait was a huge disappointment. The audio transfer was especially bad. Would not recommend at all.

We wholeheartedly apologize that the time to process an order was not what you expected! While our typical processing time is 6-8 weeks, this timeframe has been extended due to COVID-19. We are making sure that our technicians are healthy and have a generous leave policy for any employee who needs to take it. It sounds like you included an audio cassette in your box! There was a big backlog for this specific type of item which was causing it to be here a little longer than our average order. However, our team is always working hard on digitizing orders and getting them shipped back out ASAP.

1. The Southtree thumb drive was an unformatted drive with no data on it.
2. The process took almost 3 months.
3. The numbering of the Southtree CD's did not correspond to the barcode numbering of the original tapes, so it was confusing.
4. Two of the Southtree CD's were duplicates of other Southtree CD's, so more confusion!
I don't usually write reviews but in this case I feel compelled to share my experience. Southtree has some work to do to be a dependable resource for digital transferring services.

It took them months to digitize our 8mm films. Actually a day to do the work and months of just waiting for them to start it. They just kept sending emails that they got it, were checking it in, reviewing it, etc. Everything but doing the conversion. When we finally got the CDs, the format was only usable on a DVD player. I could not view them on my PC. Also, the videos were very jumpy and very dark. I can't see the original films. But I don't think they were that dark.

Love the communication! I had a slight issue but it was resolved quickly! Finally, a reputable company!
South Tree indicated that negatives should be placed in ziplock bags with bar codes. Ok. I sent in my negatives. Got email when it arrived and every 2 weeks that all was safe in warehouse. Then was told I owed more money for additional negatives I sent which was correct so I paid it. Then emailed that there was an issue but my order had shipped! Excitement after waiting 6-8 weeks. Opened box NOTHING had been done!?! I called and customer service said it was because I had sent the negatives in protective sleeves. Could this not have been determined 8 weeks ago! What if this had been needed for a Family event. No offer to expedite a new order. Really disappointing, much better experience with Dave's DPS and Legacy Box.
The quality was excellent, but I am disappointed that my instructions were not followed. I was told if I grouped my slides and labeled them and included instructions that my photos would be organized into folders on the thumb drive sent back. With 372 slides over a ten year period I spent a lot of time grouping them by date so when they came back I would know what year they were taken. The photos were not grouped or named in anyway that would tell me their date. I was disappointed that I was told this could happen and I spent the time organizing them and it didn't happen.
My order also took 71 days from arrival at the lab to receipt of the thumb drive in the mail. Processing time was less than 2 days so most of the wait was queue time. So if you're in a hurry this may not be the best company.
Just received my first order from Southtree. Sadly, it will be the last. The quality of the product did not come close to meeting the hype mentioned on the website.
My order was small - the digital scanning of fifty 35mm color slide transparencies. I figured that if the order turned out well, i would send in about 250 more. The website indicated my order would be processed by a skilled "technician" who would carefully scan and optimize each slide. Apparently the term "technician" is used loosely at Southtree.
The quality of the scanning work was seriously substandard. Some of the images that were sharply focused on the slide were seriously blurred - some to the point of being worthless. In some instances, focus was inconsistent on the same slide. Other slides were scanned backwards-something that would be obvious to a "technician" who was actually checking his/her work as each image was scanned.
The most serious deficiency was dust contamination. The slides that were returned to me were obviously cleaned of dust at some point. So it is unclear to me why there were so many dust spots on the finished scan files. Either the slides were cleaned AFTER the scan, or the scanning equipment, itself was contaminated. Many scanner manufacturers offer software that will mitigate much of the problem with dust spots. Southtree apparently doesn't offer this.
Quality of Work - POOR
Speed - POOR (It took two months to process the order)
Communication - OKAY (emails were sent to advise processing steps)
Recommendation to others - Find another vendor!
13 weeks since my original order and still NOTHING. They have had my money for too long with no action. Will now start refund process with my credit card co. Amazing that these people are still in business... they have my cash and have promised delivery over and over with no action. Maybe reporting them to the TN atty general will help get my home movies back so I can get them converted by someone reputable! DO NOT order from these people... you will be sorry if you do!
I went to their site, followed instructions to get a discount, and paid. Got an order confirmation, and the money was taken from my account. 5 days later they keep sending me instructions that do not work to submit some coupon. I repeatedly sent them emails and pictures explaining my problem and frustration, they keep sending me the same useless instructions. I give up, and have requested a refund. We'll see...
IT TOOKS MONTHS. IT TOOK MANY EMAILS. QUALITY WAS UNUSABLE.
BUT, THE WORST PART, 1/3 OF MY VIDEOS THAT THEY TRANSFERRED WERE NOT MINE.
THEY LOST MY VALUABLE TAPES. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT SEND THEM YOUR PRECIOUS MEMORIES. THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER USED.
I HAVE HAD SOME OF THE SAME VIDEOS TRANSFERRED BEFORE SO I GOT TO SEE WHAT THEY SENT, VS WHAT I ALREADY HAD. HORRIFIC QUALITY. SHODDY.

This place is not what it's cracked up to be! I spent almost $1000 to get reel to reel's transferred onto CDs to be able to preserve music my father had copied in Vietnam, slides that he had made and 8 mm movies of me when I was little my brothers and sisters and some of my children. The transfers are terrible let me say that again terrible they are grainy they're hard to see they they don't do anything better than any Tom $#*! and Harry down the street. They claim to be so caring and yet nobody's bothered call me back yet. I'm disgusted with this place. They didn't preserve my memories of all the dash them!
I numbered my 10 video cassettes as directed and went on the website and titled each of the tapes that I sent in, by number.
When I received my thumb drive, some of the files were in a different order than I had numbered them with the stickers. None of the files were labeled as I had done on the web site. In addition, some of the videos were divided onto different files. The 2nd half of one was inset between two of the videos that were on a separate cassette. The transitions between the videos were very choppy with static. I'm sure that is how my cassettes were filmed, but no effort to clean the transitions up was attempted. I guess it wasn't advertised either, but all in all I wasn't pleased with the product.

Across the board, whether it is 5 minutes or 5 hours the size of your order will be determined by how many items you would like to send us to be processed!
