I finally received my order after months. I converted tapes to CD's. Out of 6 CD's only one has good sound quality. The other are very low in sound. Also, there's no markings on the CD's letting you know the title or what's on them…. I would stay away from this company. There are others out there. After my experience I feel that this company isn't customer based. Very close to stealing. They are not giving what they are selling.
I purchased the package through QVC which advertised a quicker turn around time for processing. I sent in 8 home movies on February 9,2022 and received two thumb drives only today, June 2,2022. If this a quick turn around time, I'm wondering what's the normal turn around time. Although my movies were packed very carefully, the thumb drives were placed in an unmarked gray envelope at the bottom of the box. Although I am familiar with thumb drives, even a form letter from Southtree would have been nice. Also, I was told that because only 5 of the 8 movies were salvageable, a credit would be offered but no refund because I purchased it through a third party (QVC).
A few years ago (2015) I took all my old movies and tapes and sent them to Southtree to put on disc. When I received back I can't remember if I checked even one-but I am pretty sure I did. Anyhow I packed them -in two different places. One was with all my other transfers which I had done myself and they still work fine. I pulled them out recently and now I can't get even get one to play on my DVD player or on my computer. They all say this file is corrupted or unsupported.
It has been four months and no sign of my tapes. No more updates are being sent to me about my order and I am afraid my tapes are lost.
I sent my two tapes to Southtree in the beginning of February and now end of May and I did not received it back. It looks like the company is absolutely unresponsible.
I sent my order in 5 months ago an paid in advance. I was notified that the order was received an they would be starting on it soon. Two weeks later I was asked to send an additional amount to complete my order, though skeptical I send in additional funds. That was 5 months ago. No updates. Phone calls or emails. I do continue to get advertising emails from them saying they can provide the services I paid for over 6 months ago. I advice going with another company. I think I got scammed. Stay away…. I have
I used Southtree a few years back for digitizing home movies and recently sent off 4,000 pictures to be scanned (4 orders). The process is easy and the communication is great with regular updates along the way. The scan resolution is not as high as other sites but it is fine and you don't have crazy file size to deal with. We had two issues:
1) We went through every picture we sent in so we could tag the photos with comments written on the back of the originals. Of the 4,000 pictures sent in we had about 40-50 that didn't get scanned. They were not marked in anyway and we wouldn't have known if we hadn't checked them. Most were small wallet-sized photos so that could be part of it. We just scanned those ourselves.
2) We had about 200 negatives that we sent in that they didn't scan. That's fine and they tagged those saying to contact them if we wanted to submit something else in their place. I contacted customer support and they said that we could add them to our next order. The issue was I didn't have a next order to place. Ultimately I found a couple folders of pics and placed another order and they will give us credit on the extra items we include with this order. Not really an elegant solution but it works.
Overall, the price is good and the process is convenient. Just hope that all goes smooth for your order or you'll have a little work to do to straighten it out.
Southtree did an awesome job converting my sllides to a thumbdrive. They communicated often throughout the process. The only drawback was the very long process from order to delivery- but I was not in a hurry so it didn't bother me.
I sent in aging cassettes, to be recorded on CD's an thumb drives. The songs were recorded out of order and some were not recorded at all. The quality was horrible and when I tried to play one in my car, I found that it was a used disc! I called many times and never received a response during the over 3 months it took. Save your money and get this done with another company.
I sent in over 20 old mixed tapes. All of them had been stored incorrectly (hot, humid, long time). Southtree was able to get good video from most of them. I would use them again. Cost was less than a lot of other services.
Very happy. Was kept informed as the process progressed. Had some questions, and got a response very quickly. Disappointed that all tapes couldn't be done, but that was the fault of my old tapes. I found some more tapes, and am planning to get them done soon. Thank you very much. Very satisfied
I treasure my home movies! Southtree preserved these precious memories to dvd's and to a flash drive for me. The quality of the transferred movies is much better than I expected, and I'm thankful to have two saved sets! I am a happy and satisfied customer. I highly recommend Southtree!
Southtree has a great process to convert to digital - I loved how detailed it was, and how easy it was to follow - and with great results!
If they are, I hope they're aware that they dodged a bullet. They don't know how lucky they are. Sad for the unlucky ones like me who trusted the ads and sent in precious photos and videos. A lifetime images AND the thumb drive (can you believe they send them together?) were "lost by UPS." A UPS representative actually told me that they probably fell off the truck. In addition, they supposedly wipe their server clean 30 days after the "send" your package back, without having any idea (or care for that matter) that the package was received. My family is heartbroken, and my only hope here is that I can save other people from doing what we did.
Cuz they fix any imperfections. They try to do the best they can with my ancient media. They compensate well for anything that's not perfect.
I submitted 40 camcorder video cassettes to Southtree and have watched about 7; the quality of the picture and sound are the same as
They are in the camera playback, no deterioration since 1991, in 32 years. I possibly have 5 0r 6 more cassettes which I will send to them
When I return to where they are located. Their price is the best I could find and in this era of disaster capitalism, they stand far above the many low quality operators.
We have thousands of old photos; many great ones and many that are not as important. I was looking for a reasonably priced service that could simply scan in a lot of pictures and give me the JPGs back. Southtree popped on to my radar with a special offer for 1,000 pictures that couldn't be beat so I thought I try it. After making my purchase I received a very impressive kit that you use to organize your items into groups of 25 (in the case of photos) with bar coded stickers I applied to zip lock bags I provided. Southtree provided the shipping box and label; all I had to do was pack up my 40 baggies of pictures and ship them off. They provided high quality documentation and the materials were all first class.
I will say the service takes a while, but I wasn't in a hurry and had no deadline. From the time I shipped my photo until they were scanned, was about 2.5 months. More specifically, my pictures arrived there on 11/17/21 and on 2/10/22 they were ready to be downloaded. That is fine with me - these are pictures that I've had for many years so I wasn't in a hurry. Southtree does a nice job of keeping you informed along the way as your items work their way through the process. In the end I received 2 zip files with all of my pictures. It was super-easy and the quality was everything I expected. I will be batching up more pictures to send them as I work my way through this process. Great job, Southtree!
I have had dozens of VHS and Super 8 cassette tapes digitalized at Southtree. Their work is good, thorough, and when they have a question - they ask it. When I have had a question, they get back to me quickly with an answer. I recommend this service.
