Buyer beware! Tell everyone you know to bewared and to check for charges from SHOPSMARTER.COM on their credit cards!
I am not sure how this happened. We are very careful to review our bills. I am not even sure how long they have been sucking money out of our account!
Fortunately we were issued new credit card/numbers and received a letter in the mail from our credit card company indicating that future charges would not be honored. Thank goodness!
Please tell everyone you know to be aware of this scam!
I just recently noticed a monthly $9.97 bleeding out from my limited income! I didn't know or realized the source until I looked it up online. Reading some comments, it's been my experience as well! I've been paying overdrafts for insufficient funds, please stop!

Last month i signed up for Shop Smarter after placing an online order with Walmart in order to receive a $10 rebate. I followed every instruction given to receive the rebate, but then quickly cancelled my account after reading all of the negative reviews for Shop Smarter. Yesterday (July 2nd), I received a $10 check in the mail, in spite of the fact that I no longer hold a Shop Smarter account. I don't really know how the system works but I actually did receive free money from them without even having an account which i think is awesome! Also, I was never charged anything when i did have the account because I cancelled within the trial period. Thank you Shop Smarter :)

I didnot know how I became member of this website. I was purchasing ticket from Cheapoair 1 year ago and I dont know how I bacame member of this website. I didnot get any monthly mail regarding the monthly subscription and just these guys were deducting balance from my husband's credit card. After 1 year, today while we were going through the bank statements we find out that these guys have been charging the subscription fee monthly for 1 year. I never used this site and I didnot know how I became member. This is totally frustrating. This is a scam. We should sue these guys.

I bought a TV off of WalMart.com and there was a banner ad for ShopSmarter advertising 20% on all orders from WalMart, if I signed up. I signed up and got back 20% until I had gotten back ~$1000, over the course of 9 months. I canceled my membership because you can't get back more than $1000/year. After the year had elapsed, I tried to sign up again but they canceled my account because they said I had two accounts open which was against their Terms of Service. I had previously had an account open, which I closed. How is that considered "having an account open"? I don't consider myself to "have" an account if I'm not paying for the services or receiving any benefits.
Having two open at the same time would be understandable but not letting me reactivate my old one after enlightening me of the misinterpreted Terms is poor business.
This review will be edited if ShopSmarter reaches out to explain why they won't let me have an account.

I never signed up. I saw the charges to my credit card. My bank called me and said it was a scam. They canceled my credit card and got me another one overnight.
ShopSmarter said that I will get my two months of charges returned. Will see.

Helpful customer service from other members of the team, but there is one supervisor who is consistently rude. I've spoken to her twice and she was very short and unfriendly each time. I only remember her and her name because she was so rude. After following up on a months-long issue, the first time I spoke to her she said her team reached out to me by phone already (which they didn't) because she had notes on the same (she was not apologetic, just insisting I was incorrect). When I asked for the number they called, she couldn't verify. Several weeks go by, again, without a phone call, email, or any reply. Weeks later I call and am transferred to the same supervisor. She followed the same pattern ("we reached out to you by phone already", "we've escalated and we're required to reach out in 24 hours", "there's nothing more I can do") - very transactional. At the end I said I spoke to her weeks ago on the same, she took the same steps, and no one has ever reached out to me. She said I didn't speak to her before because she "doesn't remember this issue" and that I spoke to another supervisor. Yes, I spoke with several supervisors, including her. Came off very unprofessionally, rude, and never apologized or took responsibility for anything. An apology isn't needed, but some level of effort and friendly customer service is, especially after weeks of follow-ups without a response.
I asked that she transfer me, and the other supervisor I spoke to (and corporate) were *extremely* helpful and nice - they were professional and handled this issue right away. The second supervisor even remembered speaking to me previously (which I didn't even remember) and was incredibly apologetic and professional.
Unfortunately, the response I received from the first supervisor left a very negative impression and will impact my use of ShopSmarter.

0 Star if I could! They suck! Go to Ebates! Dont ever come to this site! They ask for all the order information and require a lot of evidence for just $3 cash back! Especially when you need to pay the monthly fee?! Seriously?! Also they have the cap limit for $1000 Cash back every year! If you already have such requirement and limitation why bother to keep asking so much evidence for all the order information? Gosh Very frustrated to this website and who ever is reading this. Don't ever try it! The worst cash back website EVER! Ebates make your life easier for sure!

I am a review lady. I do not buy until I have visited numerous websites checking reviews of an item or company. I just purchased a rug from walmart and I saw the ad to get 10% rebate on items. I immediately asked myself whats the catch. I was tempted to take the offer but googled shopsmart reviews and saw the terrible rating and experiences. Utilize reviews before you make these kind of purchases. Thanks guys.
Hi Cherry,
If you shop online often, we certainly believe that ShopSmarter.com is certainly worth the monthly fee. If you have any specific questions please reach out to me directly at [email protected] and reference case #318.

When pop up happens, I normally don't go for it... but this time I did... I was a little fishy ESPECIALLY when they asked for my credit card, but the process they were asking was easy. It wasn't until I got the confirmation/ welcome email that I realized there was a fee, honestly, that was not what bothered me. I check the reviews and they were not good. I canceled my membership right away, again, not because of the fee, it was because I am not a frequent online shopper. If I was, maybe I would see the value in it. Plus if you think about it, its alot of work to put the rebate in... so as long as you are okay with that, it' not that bad, just not worth it to me.
Hi Amanda,
Thank you for the feedback! We are always trying to improve our site using our members feedback. I will certainly forward this on, however don't hesitate to reach out to me directly at [email protected].
Thanks!
Never got the confirmation email BUT I didn't get charged any additional $ and I finally got the $10 rebate in the mail a few days ago... so no login, no confirmation email, no additional charges and almost 3 months to get the rebate -> looks like a scam, quack's like a scam... but if you follow the directions properly its honestly not a scam. Go figure...
Hi Nathaniel,
Thank you for the feedback. We always try to use our member's feedback to enhance our program. If you have any specific feedback you would like to send along, I would be more than happy to forward that on to our team. Please email me directly at [email protected].

I signed up to get my $10 rebate via Walmart and attempted to login THE NEXT DAY (11/29/2017) to cancel my membership. It told me there was no email associated so I called the number and the guy looked me up and said "ok you've cancelled. You should be getting the email shortly". I asked if i would still be getting the rebate and his reply was "you can" (wtf?). An hour later I still hadn't gotten the cancel confirmation so I called again (because I saw this site, read the reviews, and figured they might be scamming me). A new woman picked up and she said that I had already cancelled but her system was unable to send out an email to my email address (she said that it happens sometimes). She gave me the confirmation number but I'm going to call again today to ensure they send out that email so I can be sure they will not charge me
I emailed my rebate 12/29/17 with necessary information proof of purchase. Once i was charged i cancelled membership since i am unable to use service. I dont use the small amount of stores listed. I contacted customer service twice: cancel and check on status 2/24/18. Both time i was told cancellation of membership dont affect cashback where is it then. 8wks later when i received an email confirming receipt of rebate and to give 3-6wks. Customer service rep and manager claim they have nothing from me and unable to see emails. Make up your mind which lie is it?
I was on Walmart.com purchasing a computer and this link popped up. Since it was through Walmart, I filled in my name and information. I did realize that I was going to be charged $12/month to use this site for shopping online. It wasn't very clear. They had charged the card I used to buy the computer from Walmart for about 9 consecutive months@ 12/month. I did not realize this because the account they charged was an Amex Prepaid Card that I had opened ONLY to save money for Christmas Presents. Come Christmas time, all my money in the account was gone. I called and finally figured it all out but they still charged my card. Finally I had to cancel my entire card for fear they would keep doing it. I called today to talk to a manager and the rep wouldn't put a manager on because 'there's nothing I can't help you with." Seriously? She could care less. She said 'well I dont know how we could have charged you $120 because it's only $9/month. Well, YOU DID charge me- at $12/month not $9! It was useless talking to her. I did not use this site ever! Even when I purchased the computer, there was no discount I received and I don't shop online ever other than this computer I bought on Walmart. She really could care less. VERY SNEAKY
I saw this advertised after making a purchase on Walmart.com. I was ok with everything right up until they asked for my credit card info. Right away my feelers went up and I knew it was a scam. I don't care If it was Walmart.com. I would never give any company that I am not doing business with my financial information. Nobody gives you nothing for free nowadays and there is too many dishonest people and scammers out on the interwebs! To those who have been scammed you need to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and contact the Attorney General's Office in Connecticut, so that they can put an end to these kinds of scams!
Hi Michelle,
I apologize for the confusion you had regarding the membership fee. We do believe that it is clear that ShopSmarter.com is a membership service. We list the charge 3 times prior to you being billed. It is first right next to the field where you enter your credit card number, again in the terms and conditions that you must agree to prior to signing up and lastly the membership fee can be found in the welcome email that you were sent upon signing up.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks!
I am an online buyer but not as frequent but I do buy expensive electronic gadgets.
So I found this website while something on walmart website at first I thought it might me fishy as it asked for credit card info. It is clearly mentioned while registering that after the promotional period ends credit card will be charged like any other website providing services like Amazon Prime or HBO. I tried doing a couple of big purchases on best buy and double whammy was that the shopsmarter was running promotional 20% for one of the long weekends when i was planning the purchase so I bought a DSLR camera worth $2300 from Best Buy and as the pay date arrived I very promptlyreceived a cheque of $460.
So if you are regular online buyer this site is really good for you though at a nominal monthly fee.
If you are going to making a big purchase and can wait for vacation time/holidays or long weekends they normally run 20% cashback for a lot of the brands on their websites(i. E. Best Buy, Staples, Macys etc.). So if you can plan your purchase around these dates you would be rewarded with an additional 10%. You need to keep checking their website around long weekend/holiday times to be aware of the 20% cashback promotion time period although a 10% cashback is sweet for frequent online shopper.
Just do a bit of math before becoming a member whether it is really beneficial paying the monthly fee till the pay date arrives for your purchases as they have pay out dates every QUARTER. Say you make purchase worth of $250 through Shopsmarter and are supposed to get back $25 cashback for your purchases then the point to note is you are paying a monthly fee of $30(for Jan-Mar) so you are not actually gaining anything but if your purchases are more than the amount you paid for monthly fees added then it definitely makes sense.
Hi Kunal,
I'm happy to hear that you are enjoying your membership with ShopSmarter. Please let me know if you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to help!
Thanks!
I've contacted Walmart customer service and complained to them about the ad. I said I knew that it wasn't from Walmart, but that Walmart had responsibility for allowing such an ad on their site, especially when the ad is designed to look like it comes from Walmart. The customer service reps that I talked to said they are "escalating" the issue. I also mentioned that I won't make any more orders from walmart.com until the ad is gone. This is something others can do and it will cause some action eventually. Companies take notice when you hit them in the pocketbook.
I'm willing to bet that the company isn't even located in the U.S. Such is the case with many such entities. Also, I'm suspicious of a couple of the five-star reviews here. These kinds of companies are notorious for doing their own "reviews."

I shopped thru them, but when it came to pay me they claimed I'm a commercial user, which is completely false, they charged me a few months of service for nothing.
All my email responses didn't help me a single drop...:(
I am attaching a picture of the email I got
BEWARE! YOU ARE WARNED!
I understand there is a monthly fee. But I shop a lot online and think the 10% cash back is of value to me. So I took the offer.
Did a lot shopping through Christmas. And just got a letter that they think i'm buying for business purpose and closed my account!
So now they are keeping my cashback reward from vendors and I'm out of close to $1000!
