ShopGoodWill Reviews Summary

The company has garnered significant criticism regarding its customer service and shipping practices, with numerous customers expressing dissatisfaction over exorbitant shipping fees, poor item descriptions, and inadequate packing leading to damaged goods. Many reviews highlight a perceived shift from a community-focused mission to a profit-driven approach, resulting in a loss of customer trust. Its amazing how a place who makes nothing but profits off their items refuses to help the people in there communities with small things. Its not right but yet you want people to support you but refuse to support your community

Worst experience!
June 26, 2021

Better off buying on Etsy or EBay. Employees are bidding prices up. If it doesn't go as high as they want, although you are the highest bidder, the sale is cancelled. Happened to me twice. No response from managers or customer service. In another instance item looks nothing like what I bidded on. 3rd issue was item had obvious break that wasn't in description. Don't bother, you will be disappointed. A total ripoff.

Buyer Beware
June 22, 2021

Credit card info stolen. Informed Goodwill online and individual store of online purchase and charges to card less than 24 hrs after purchase and 20.1 miles from store where purchase made. Just thought they might want to know someone [possibly, probably an employee] has "hacked" their system. Goodwill insists encrypted, not possible;[anything is possible]

I thought Shopgoodwill.com would be great, until I was hit with shipping and handling costs, didn't receive an item purchased in a lot one time, and received an item I didn't buy another time. Customer service was terrible. They didn't even ask what I wanted to do. Just refunded 1/4 of the bid total. Not shipping and handling, for an item I didnt even get.
They lost a good customer.

I purchased a few items from Goodwill, just recently 3 iPad's, and so far it will online really sucks. If you want to download information to them they only give you 4 mb for a picture that's not enough. They are very poor customer service. But that is by design they don't want you sending anything back if they make mistakes in listing and item, is very hard for them to fess up that they made a mistake so they ignore the emails that you send them and only respond within one day enclose out the response poor customer service they have online do not purchase. Apple products from these guys they do not have credibility in this area. Buyer beware.

Would give zero stars if I could. I have been waiting for 2 weeks just for my item to be shipped. Piss Poor everything. No response from customer service. "Shipping delayed due to Covid" STOP BLAMING COVID FOR YOUR INEPT SERVICE. COVID WAS NOT ACTIVE IN 2018. THIS IS 2021 YOU DO-DOs AND YOU ARE STILL TERRIBLE! I have shipped MANY items with regular ship times. I see why people/employees steal from your stores.

Shill bidding
May 14, 2021

I have reported shopgoodwill to the FTC. I highly suspect they employ shill bidding. For example, consider there is a listing for a widget. The widget new at Walmart or Amazon sells for $19.99.
The auction for the widget jumps to $29.99 (MORE than the cost of the item new).
A few weeks down the road the widget is listed again and the pictures look identical to the previous listing (i. E. same small rips, tears, etc)

Their handling is outrageous! Sometimes $3.99 to put an item in a box with no material to fill the void.

The latest there is an item listed for $29. But the item NEW with free shipping is at Amazon for $13!

How is it that you pay out the@#$ for shipping and don't forget handling, to wait 7 days for item to be shipped, then when you ask to cancel, they flat out refuse. If I ran my business this way, I wouldn't have clients! For people looking for other places to shop try auction ninja, caring transitions and hibid. They are auction sites and they are fair on shipping and they are kind. No goodwill will ever come from ripping people off!

Ripoff
May 10, 2021

They are lousy and there is no customer service. The items are not worth what they are charging. They think they are antique appraisers who have items that are worth a ton of money but it's mainly overpriced garbage.

Note to people using the site.
Check the Shipping & Handling (S&H) cost very carefully!
It is extremely expensive, depending on who has posted.

I bid on an item for the first time on site. $9.99 with $3.99 handling. Since the actual item was around 10 pounds, I expected for shipping to be around $10. I found an "estimate shipping" button so I checked after bidding. Because the seller had the shipping weight set for 48 pounds (even though actual weight is 10 pounds, about 5x actual weight), it said shipping and handling will cost $38...

I have asked about shipping cost with (contact seller function), but have not received a response.

It does not make sense for me to pay $40 S&H charge to get this $10 item, even if I were to win the bid. (The bid was ongoing for another 3 days, but this was a total deal breaker.) I understand that Goodwill is for charity... however, I felt that this site wasVERY deceptive.

I've requested to have my account closed. I will not be shopping online from this site.

I cannot believe they act like this to customers. I suppose they feel they can defraud and steal from customers because they are a charity.

Do not sign up for this website or purchase thing from it. There is no ethical standards being enforced by the corporate headquarters and each store pretty much acts like it own individual seller playing by its own rules. Many are damn near sociopathic con artists.

Run away.
May 1, 2021

These people do NOT give a Sh*t about anything but getting your cash. That's IT. There is NO Customer Service. The Auctions ae NOT auctions. Anyone can buy any item whenever they want to, even if you have placed a bid on the item, during an Auction I was bidding on an item, was the high bidder, and they sold the item to someone that wanted to buy it at the buy it now price. This is NOT an Auction site, and they do not care that they are violating every Auction law in the book besides trying to convince people it is an Auction site, it is NOT. Avoid these thieves at all cost. It is not worth it.

Damaged Goods
April 23, 2021

Third and last time for ELECTRONICS from "GOOD" WILL.
I would advise everyone out there to NOT buy electronic items from GOODWILL.
The first experience for an "all-in-one" vintage radio\ record player/receiver which arrived totally busted.
In that case the store in question gave a refund and I junked the broken item.
The second time was a STEREO AMP which was touted as "working"--it was not working and I doubt it ever was--I got NO RESPONSE & NO REFUND in that transaction.
The third and last time was this MARCH, 2021.
Won a bid for a "working" turntable and FEDEX left it on the porch in a box which was obviously damaged.
GOODWILL of CENTRAL TEXAS made no attempts at refunding.
I did eventually open the box to ascertain the damage and sure enough-- both corners of the plastic cover were broken right through since the cover was NOT individually wrapped.
There were no "FRAGILE" stickers or "THIS END UP" The turntable was in the box upside down.
There was no SIGNATURE DELIVERY and I would have refused the box just by looking at it.
I didn't bother "testing" it since I doubt it would work due to crappy packaging.
They sent "NO REPLY" emails asking for more pics!
They then "closed" the case without even addressing the issue.
I turned the whole matter over to Wells Fargo and learned my lesson, which is--DO NOT BUY ELECTRONICS from GOODWILL--they don't know how to pack items properly--AND it's doubtful they ever even test anything.
And, like others have suggested, there seems to be shill bidding going on in many stores.
I have had fairly good luck with non-electronic things but I am stopping all purchases from them.
And--why are donated used items TAXED AGAIN?
THE USED STUFF has already been taxed to death but still--MORE TAXES?
They pretend to be a "charity" organization, but in reality they are FOR PROFIT and have a CEO who takes home MILLION$$$$$ while paying employees sub-par wages.
Rich people donate for TAX WRITE-OFFS and couldn't care less what happens after that.

Maybe not!
April 16, 2021

Tempting, so very tempting! There is a lot of good stuff to look at but once you add shipping and handling plus the downright irrational bidding that happens most items end up being expensive. Why pay ‘ handling' if it takes 8 plus days to get your item shipped anyhow? A few times when I thought I'd actually catch a deal I was outbid at the last moment only to see the item re- listed... in the spirit of ‘donating' to community efforts this all could pass if only goodwill had a decent overhead cost ratio, which they don't. So, maybe not such a great place to spend your money and if you feel like donating you might as well pick a favorite charity and give directly to them!

When you go to bid on an item, it doesn't ACTUALLY show you the current bid price, it shows you the price of a bid or two ago. When putting a bid on an item, you usually immediately receive a response stating you've been outbid. But by who? I tried bidding 170 dollars on an item that the current bid supposedly was 161. Five times it did not work, stating I had been outbid. I finally was able to place a bid at 176 dollars, where the bidding price remained until the auction ended 40 minutes later. The second the bid closed, I see somebody else won? A bid for 191 dollars that came in after it had ended? Shady and scummy practices, especially considering they are SUPPOSED to be selling this stuff locally to help their communities, and instead they send the good items to sell online for extremely marked up prices, and seem to have no intention of showing when you've actually been outbid, so you can't really even win an auction either. Speaking of, even if you're going to sell it online, if this is supposedly to help people why is it an auction in the first place? All around very odd and doesn't quite match up with the name "Goodwill". Either way I'm not about to sit here and play these games just for the "privilege" of massively overpaying for an item.
