The company's reputation is marred by significant concerns regarding product quality and delivery reliability. Customers frequently express disappointment with the actual experience not aligning with promotional materials, citing poor cake quality and malfunctioning surprise elements. Additionally, service delays and inadequate customer support exacerbate frustrations, with many reporting late deliveries and unresponsive communication regarding refunds. While some customers appreciate the novelty of the gift concept, the overall sentiment leans negative, highlighting a need for improved service reliability and responsiveness to customer inquiries to enhance satisfaction and trust.

"Explosion birthday box" is a popular item on shopping websites. I found a wonderful one for $12.99 online. But "Sendacake" charged me $86.25 for the same thing. And a literal CUPCAKE. It also arrived late. An old birthday cake is about as useful as a pumpkin on Christmas. Maybe that was a blessing it arrived late, because It would have been an embarrassment if it arrived on time. There was definitely not enough cake for more than one person. Customer service is incredibly time consuming and intransigent. They responded with an 'oops' and a highlighted disclaimer stating that 'items may arrive later than expected'. After several more unproductive exchanges, they offered to refund my shipping— which they probably got refunded by their shipper in the first place. But definitely not a penny off the $80 cupcake. Not even a discount code on a 'do-over' cupcake order. Finally, it is impossible to track your order unless you download their data-scraping app, 'Route'®. It is such an awkward arrangement, it must be the same company or they have a collaberative marketing agreement. Because the Route® app is a mess. It provided inaccurate information, and it also tried to scan my other emails. 🤨 There is absolutely no reason SendACupcake couldn't send a tracking number for FedEx just like the other $80 compact cake merchants do. Constant disappointment is a bad fit for what should have been a fun birthday surprise, so I'll end on a high note: The box was nice rigid paperboard and was not damaged in shipping. 🙂 And it was definitely the first lemon-perfumed $80 cupcake I've ever sampled. The attached photo includes an ordinary cupcake on the left, and the 'send a cake' product on the right.
I am outraged what kind of business delivers anything for special occasions for special days on a requested day at 10pm in the evening of the requested day. It was a friends birthday Thankgod she wasn't fully in bed yet but they nearly missed their mark. That is just unacceptable and so disappointing. Shame on this company
I paid a hundred bucks for a broken box and a cup cake. Can't upload video because nothing happened, sides didn't drop butterflies didn't move. You sell garbage.
The cake was delivered to the wrong address. Their only solution was to try and get me to pay for a new cake. Should know by now that businesses that advertise on Facebook are BS.
I bought the $75 version that was supposed to send pieces of paper with hearts on them into the air. When my wife opened the box, it played the music, but nothing came out until she turned it upside down and dumped out the contents. She liked the music and thought it was cute when the little cake and candies came out but the rest of us (who knew what to expect) were disappointed.
I paid the extra $16 dollars that was to be a guarantee. The Harry Potter Hogswart Explosion Box was at my home by April 26,2025. It didn't make it and I have no clue if it will even show up. I was so excited to do something unique for my youngest grandson and now, for me, his birthday celebration for tomorrow is ruined. He doesn't care because he doesn't know Grandma spent $71 dollars to do something extra special for him. I have emailed Send a Cake but I doubt I will hear back in a timely manner. There is no way to talk to someone at UPS that has had the package since Friday, April 25th. No excuse for it not getting delivered. No. Major weather issues. Nothing that would stop a delivery on the next day after they received it. So thanks Send a Cake and UPS for upsetting a Grandma who just wanted to do something extra special this one time.
A birthday cake is time sensitive and they did not deliver. The cake was supposed to arrive on 3/29. When I notified them they offered to reroute the cake bc it was for my granddaughter who lives in another state and she had already gone back home by 3/31 when the cake arrived. Here it is 4/8 and she still has not received the cake. They are not answering my requests for a refund.
Customer service is never available never answer phones nor email I called over 100 times never got an answer I sent email nothing back
We never received our order. After contacting them several times they wanted to verify my identity with a picture of drivers license or passport and a list of other forms for a refund. I refused, If you look on there website they sell your information. I am taking it as a loss, if I could give them a negative number I would. I am not sending private information for a cake!
What a fraud! This company was given 10 day lead time to get my package out and didn't deliver. When I requested a refund they told me that they would refund me the FedEx fee but otherwise the cake would eventually get to me so I was on my own. They don't answer their customer support phone number and told me I need to settle my claim for a refund through a 3rd party. BEWARE! I wouldn't waste your time.
Customer service asks for a video of an exploding box that does not work! Calling their customer service phone is an exercise in frustration which repetitively tells you due to "high call volumes". So they get high call volume that their product does not work?
No sense of urgency to correct a birthday gift. Just want a video. See photo paper that should have exploded from the bix remains in the box!
Did not work as advertised. A total waste and adding poor quality of cake and dollar store flowers the price was expensive for nothing
I ordered the gift paid for tracking and route protection almost $20 on top of the gift fee to guarantee delivery by February 14. It was not delivered and will be delivered four days after the date agreed on and paid for.
1- the actual user experience is nothing like the videos they post. I suspect the videos are faked in someway.,ours did very little
2- there was a tiny little plastic wrapped cake that tasted like plastic wrap - I have had better cake in a gas station, not as good as chesp junk foods
3- you could probably find some cheap Chinese toys on temu to jump out of a box for a lot less that $65.00
Completely disappointed
I'm a long time customer. An item didn't "open" as it should have and you can't talk to anyone to fix it, get a refund or re-send. You're out of luck! Horrible customer service. I spent $74 to send my 90 yer old Mom 6 donuts because the bubbling champagne bottle didn't bubble. Their mailbox is full when you try to call and you get AI when you email. Very disappointing.
These delivery dates are generally date specific. As in a birthday.
Order two weeks out. It doesn't come (supposed to on a Saturday). Doesn't come. They said "due to local delivery restrictions it is delayed until Monday". Like wtf? They didn't look into this two weeks ago when it was ordered. It has happened before.
But I figured a company that has stayed in business must have at least a few competent employees.
I was way off.
My daughter is in college far from us, as she will be without her family on her 21st birthday, I decided to make her happy by sending this surprise on her birthday, almost a week before I received an email saying that it would arrive sooner than I requested, this bothered me a lot since it takes a lot of money for things to not turn out as they are, I wrote and called and only saw justifications because the money was already on their side, there will be no more order on my part or from anyone who is in my hands to tell do not request their service, they are terrible
The kicker is that I paid for premium shipping expecting it to be delivered on time, but that didn't happen. They shipped a perishable cake 2 days ahead. My first order with them arrived just fine in the morning. I was expecting the same schedule for my last order, having paid for premium shipping. My order arrived at the end of the day, at the end of a kid's graduation party and thus didn't serve the purpose for which it was intended.
Their "cake" is mediocre at best and absolutely not worth $60.
I ordered a cake from this company to send to my brothers girlfriend and the delivery person left it outside (they live in Florida and it was in the summer). It was melted by the time she realized they have delivered it and none of it was edible. I never received an email or text about the delivery and she didn't either. I put both of ours down but neither of us heard anything and it sat outside for hours. When I reached out to the company they didn't respond. I completely forgot about it and emailed them again a while later to which they responded saying they could offer me a small discount but not a refund because I didn't reach out to them earlier. It wasn't cheap either. A small cake for everything plus shipping was $89.95. For that price it should be delivered correctly, what shipping am I paying for that's $25 and they don't make sure to actually hand it to the person?
So I ordered a cake on 06/04 for my daughter's birthday on 06/09. I picked for it to be delivered on the 8th and it's not being delievered until the 10th. Why is there a delivery date if it can not be delivered on a specific date! Not recommended
Answer: Terrible Customer service. They provide a phone number but I've ben on hold for a least an hour (two different days) and they never pick up. When you tap to leave a message... the mailbox if full. Their email responses I think are AI. There is no name at the bottom and they are not helpful.
Answer: Yes it works. You can also go to eBay and just buy something called an “explosion birthday box”. They cost about $10 and do the same thing.
