I never joined Self. However, someone else did, using my back account info they got off a check and ran up hundreds of $$$ deductions from my account on Self. I understand that's not their fault, but their phone number is not published. An email took 5 days to respond to and "live" chat supposedly will be responded to within 24 hours. When my bank account is being drained daily, waiting DAYS for a response seems a bit much.

My credit went up by 73 points in 3 months. My credit started at a 500 and now it's at 573. I would recommend Self to help with your credit.

Self financial closed my credit card, with a $35 balance... $35 As they will undoubtedly try to tell you in their response. They DID send me automated emails. However, they disabled my account rendering me unable to login. My credit has crept from 30 to 60 to 90 to 120 days late on $35; without them reaching out in my attempts to fix the LOGIN issue so I may pay. I have reached out to customer service, but as they state "Our call and email support response times are very delayed." which means they do not respond. Their "chat" feature is outsourced garbage, and they have no ability to help. As you can see by the other complaints against them, there is potentially a class action lawsuit being formed against them for their practices of charging customers and closing accounts. If you read about them, this isn't new. And it could happen to you. I have requested to pay the $35... yes, $35 charge - but their inability to handle customer emails/calls/chats has some people suspiscious about what is actually going on with the operations/finances of this company. I would NOT put any trust in this company. I would not use their services. It didn't even help my credit.

I started utilizing Self several months back as I thought it would be a great idea to save a few bucks. Well, when I realized that out of the $25.00 per month I was saving on Self, half of it was being charged as a service fee. I called *******050 and left a voice message for them to cancel my account. They still attempted to continue to charge my debit card, so when I switched cards, I didn't submit my new debit card number to Self.
Before I joined self, I had good credit. Currently, I have already been pre-approved for a $500K mortgage, paid for an appraisal, paid for an inspection, and left a $15K deposit. I am supposed to close in 2 weeks. Over the weekend "SELF" reported to the credit bureaus I was over 30 days late on a FAKE loan, dropping my credit score over 40 points.
I have an excellent payment history on every single account that I have. Never late on any of my credit cards, car loans, not even student loans. Never late. Now this BS may cause me to lose almost $20K and miss out on a mortgage.
This needs to be fixed right now. Then I tried to call every number I could find for "SELF" but can't get anyone to help. The same as when I tried to cancel my account. If I lose out on this deal and lose practically my entire savings over this, I promise I will post a million postings on every single review site that I am able to find as well as press charges against "SELF". This is so unfair that all of the hard work I put in to maintain a good credit rating is dumped in the trash by a money hungry institution that is too greedy and unorganized to allow your customers to cancel their membership.
You never gave me a dime and NOW to ruin my credit is freaking heartless.

Terrible Customer Service

Customer service was really bad when I had to get a replacement credit card. I think most of the people at the call center don't understand English. It was so bad I just cancelled the whole thing. It should not take 10 phone calls just to get a credit card replaced.

Don't do it, nightmare

My credit went from 630 to 475 with in 3 month. Wrong email wrong address. You name it they screwed it up. Talk to them over three 3 months. With no change to my credit score. Called. B. B. B. State Attorney. And now, have had to hire a lawyer.

I Only recommend if you have absolutely no Credit at all, your score drops when you open the account and drops when the account closes unless you keep extending a self loan, overall for me my score dropped because of self

So far so good!

So I made my first months payment on the 13th. My due date was the 30th this month. By the 16th I was noticed that my credit score had went up by 50 points. My credit was ruined due to my ex, and I had been in the low 400's and was building it back up, I had 16 accounts and was down to 4 when I got this app. Nothing was added or taken off around when my points went up. I am wondering if it is because of paying early. I'm not sure. I'll add some photos below to show. So maybe it can help others too. I will try to update once I've dealt with this more. :)

They have the worst customer service, please don't call on the weekend because no one can actually help you with anything they all have limited access meaning you would have to wait till Monday if you have a problem with a transaction made on your account...

So I had 3 transactions that was made for 450.30 it didn't list a name or where it was going to but customer service couldn't see it, and couldn't help further but to give you a number you cant use until Monday...

You cancel your card they can't send you out a new one, they will give you another number to call again that department isn't open until Monday

Keep in mind they can't transfer you over to any departments on the weekend...

I have 7 other credit cards and on any given day of the week they all can help me with all my needs...

If think your card been comprised on a weekend be prepaid to have to make another call on a week day when you probably at work trying to earn some money to pay the money on this card...

All the other major credit cards companies have secured cards if you want to use self builder account which is great but your better rolling your money over to a more establish credit card company

I made sure to do my research before I signed up and Im so happy I did. My score from using self alone had gone up 55 points in just one month across all credit bureaus. I paid my bill before the due date, not sure if that helped. I had closed accounts and no new lines of credit open. I will be getting the self credit card once I qualify. IT seems the only negative reviews are if you miss a payment that they report it (which should be obvious) Stay diligent in making on time payments.

New to Self.inc

In working for one of the Big Four' banks I am a firm believer in utilizing and taking advantage of the much improved and highly advanced technology in today's era. In regards to using the Self. Mobile app: this entire process took less than 10 minutes. Within those 10 minutes I was able to compete the account opening in its entirety. The easy-to-navigate tools through the Self. Mobile app helped me to: create my account, designate a beneficiary, create my own profile with my personal information (I. E. Name, address, phone number), secured link-up to my personal Mobile Bank account, selection of my preferred payment method with the AutoPay option enabled and lastly I even had access the the official account opening documentsagain, I did all of this in less than 10 minutes! I was left with peace of mind in knowing I didn't have to worry from here! I give Self. Two thumbs up with an A+ rating! (P.S. The mobile app is amazingthe blue & orange colors used throughout the app are very appealing!)
