I have rented this model phone successfully before in the Sierra Nevada Mts and the Himalaya, mainly for emergency use as a mountain climber. The phone I used this time Aug 2015 was glitchy. With either fully charged battery, it would flip alternately every 3-4 seconds between "searching" and "registered", all the while with 3 or 4 bars of reception showing. Making a few calls worked only about 1 time out of 6 attempts.

This was not just a satellite-passing -out-of-reach situation. It occurred repeatedly in my hometown, on the trail, and even at the top of Mt Whitney, the highest mountain in the 48 States. There certainly was no obstruction there.

I was new to Satellite phone and related technologies. They, and specifically, Eric Talman, were very patient with me, spending whatever time I needed to be able to effectively understand and use the technology.
After my purchase and more technologies (apps) became available, I would call the store, and even though I was not purchasing anything further from them, they would walk me through any questions I had.
Their service before and after the purchase far exceeded anything I expected - in fact, it seems they should charge for these services but they view it as part of your initial purchase.
I am on a first name basis with my tech there and he actually remember s me and my situation when I call. He knows I am sailing around the world and the importance of this technology to me.
