We booked a doggy day care service with Rover. Our sitter ghosted us last second. We drove to the address she gave us to drop off our dog at the agreed-upon time, only to realize that address didn't exist. She would not pick up her phone. I had travel plans and my boyfriend needed to be at work, and we were left scrambling to figure out what to do with our dog last second. Eventually Rover refunded me, but they did not cancel the booking, meaning our "sitter" still profited. Rover did not hold her accountable in any way. She and other "sitters" may do this regularly on this app, basically making money from scamming people. This app enables people to easily to this with no repercussions. I would be extremely weary to trust their sitters. I'm not sure what qualifications, if any, people need to have to register as sitters. Our day was messed up and hectic, but it could honestly go much worse if the "sitter" had more nefarious intentions. I would strongly advise against using Rover, as they do not have any standards or accountability for their sitters.

We have a pet that gets anxious when left alone for long periods of time. Through Rover, we hired a sitter to come to our home twice a day, and be with our pet for 30 minutes each time while we were out of the country. Our Ring system records entry and exits from our home and it showed that of the 8 agreed upon visits, the sitter was only in the house 30 minutes one time, on two occasions she was there for a mere 8 minutes. For half of the 8 visits, she was there less than 15 minutes. To make matters worse, when we asked the sitter if she was able to be there for the agreed upon 30 minutes, she lied to us. Additionally, the sitter falsified her visit times on the Rover system, making it appear that she was there 30 minutes each time. So she lied to Rover as well. You'd think that would cause concern for Rover. Money is paid to Rover up front so we went to them with our concerns and requested a refund. They said we had to go to the sitter to get her to request a refund! WHAT? Needless to say the sitter ignored our outreach to settle the issue. We went back to Rover, who requested that we send them our evidence. After sending them the Ring system information, they refunded us less than half of what we paid and the sitter is still available on their website for jobs. If you love your pet, do not use Rover!

Run- don't look back! With the way they treat people, I would never trust them regarding my dogs! I tried to find a sitter but rover screwed up my email and profile, using someone else's email address! Right up to Jen, a supervisor, I got no help, one rep laughed at me & hung up, another cried and others use profanity. Supervisors never call back as promised. Trash! You & your pets deserve better!

It is up to you to vet your pet sitter. It's your responsibility. Rover does background check and give sitters an online test. That's it. If you didn't meet the sitter beforehand, and you didn't make sure the person is qualified to watch your pet, then don't do it and go blaming the company. The sitters do not work for Rover.

I hired a sitter via Rover in May. The sitter, Kirra, came to my home on 5/29 to meet my dogs. We did a walk-through of my home. During the walk-through, I showed her where the washer and dryer were located, opening (sliding) the doors of the laundry area, clearly not pulling them out. Kirra agreed to watch my dogs from July 3 to July 8. I asked Kirra to take care of my girls, most importantly that they not be left alone at night. I didn't mind if she stayed at my home or her home, as long as they weren't alone in the evening. I left instructions on the fridge as well, giving her info on their care and feeding. Kirra was thoughtful and washed the sheets and bedding she used, but I didn't ask her to change the bedding. When I returned home, I noticed that a piece from the sliding laundry room door had been left on my counter. I didn't realize what it was until I went to do wash. BOTH of the doors to my laundry area had been damaged. I now need to replace the two doors as the damage at the top cannot be fixed nor can the rollers be put back on the doors as the wood is so damaged from the doors being pulled open instead of slid open. I contacted Rover via email, and received a response that I would be contacted within 72 hours. Sean O responded to my email and then after I left a few messages for him to return my call, he and I spoke. Initially, he shared that there is a $250 deductible for which I am responsible (never heard this before), and after a discussion about my long history with Dog Vacay and now Rover, he shared that possibly they would issue me a full refund in order to cover the damaged doors. Now he is back to the $250 deductible and wants a quote from a company to fix the doors. I would like the doors replaced and I do not want to incur the costs to do so as I did not damage them myself. I have lived here for over five years, and I will need to replace them before I move out. I felt it was appropriate to contact Rover directly rather than the sitter as I hired her through Rover. Sitter was Kirra B from West Chester, PA.

Just no!
August 10, 2019

Very shady place, they will go all out to remove honest reviews which they did to my friend. I would suggest going elsewhere or having someone you trust to watch over your pets. I wouldn't suggest working with them either, it doesn't pay well and often times the owners will lie about their pets.

My sitter was scheduled to start at 7:30am on July 20 2019. I had used her for a drop in the Sat before.(not sure she even came to my house). I had communication with her that Sat of the drop in and told her we'd need here to come around 7:30 on the 20th. I called her and sent texts to her on the Friday before we were leaving and go 0 response. Finally at 9 pm I called the rover.com emergency number and they tried contacting her, 0 response. My neighbors stepped up and said they would take care of my dog. I got a full refund right away. We were on Maui and Sunday night the 21st around midnight WA time the rover sitter starts texting me wanting to know why she was canceled. I don't think she had a clue what day she was supposed to start watching my dog. She started texting and calling basically harassing me. I had to call rover the next day to report her. I will never use rover.com ever again! I'd love to post her name she's in Wenatchee WA.

READ THE OTHER REVIEWS PEOPLE! DO NOT USE ROVER.COM IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR PETS! Check out the latest... one of their "sitters" who tossed a tiny dog onto the floor. Google it! Rover.com takes ZERO responsibility for ANY of their sitters. PLEASE ONLY HIRE SOMEONE THAT HAS ACTUAL REFERRALS FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW!

PSA for friends and family on using Rover for pets-

I just got notification that my fact only based review of the experience I had with one of the boarders for Rover is being deleted due to us not actually leaving our dog at the residence. The reason I felt the need to write the review (I promise I have better things to do) was to make sure people were aware of the conditions they might encounter and did praise when praise was due on the prompt communication. The other 60 reviews I read before choosing them (they have 5 stars... shocker) to watch our pup did not mention that they might have up to 8 dogs in addition to their 3 cuties in a 1000sq ft house (in our case my dog would have been the 9th dog there). I think it's rather telling that we chose to not leave our dog at their house after already paying for the stay in full and would have taken all of those factors into consideration before booking. Instead, Rover has decided to delete this information for future customers. It makes me sad I can no longer trust their company since they will just do away with a one star, but honest, and objective review. I know there are plenty of great people who provide a service on there that will be negatively impacted on this companies decision to censor.

I was intentionally delayed by my local police. They lie. You lie. The rover hire did not call me to tell me she would leave immediately. At best the failure to give ezch other phone numbers is bad communication. At worst leaving a house unlocked with pets unwatched because the owner is 45 minutes late is very irresponsible.

This happened in the last few days and the video has been posted on Instagram and Facebook of a rover.com pet sitter named McKenna slamming a puppy to the ground. Caught on the owners camera Her boyfriends name is Ryan Rose and he stated they had been at the beach all day and we're sunburned and tired.

Most of the pet sitters advertising on Rover are either unreliable, fake, or unavailable even when their calendar indicates availability. Most of them have work schedules that clashes with the time you want them, so essentially it is a hit or miss to get one who is not working at that time. And when you do, they have another dog that your pet has to stay with while the sitter might be out. From 15 requests for sitters in my area, only one had some flex time to see my dog. All the others had one excuse or another. Don't believe, the ads they post. After you contact them, it's another story.

A video has surfaced of a rover dot cone sitter abusing a small puppy, this video is legitimate and has been posted by trustworthy sources. I encourage everyone to never use this service and inform anyone you might know considering using this company.

Avoid rover.com
July 30, 2019

I'm a new dog walker/sitter, on a long hold for a supervisor at rover.com, after speaking with two silly script-reading robots. They tried to stiff me on the full weekend I sat for three dogs, by paying me for one day only. Now, back at the same house, where I'm having to do ALL the book-keeping for them. What is the point of using an agency? Would I recommend rover.com to other walkers/sitters? NO. At the least they are amazingly incompetent, at the most dishonest. And, I had to pay them $35 for a background check! What a chump was I.

Privacy concerns
July 30, 2019

I've had a few great sitters on Rover, but when I booked a stay this past weekend, my sitter took a photo of the instructions, including my address and phone number, to show me she had it. Rover then shared that private information in their public Rover Reel, which ANYONE can see. I reached out to them as soon as I noticed this and they said they corrected it. I checked and it was still up. I reached out AGAIN and asked again for them to take down the Reel. A few hours later, it was finally taken down with no apologies, just some explanation that IF that had happened, it would not have been shared (although I confirmed it was, my friends could see it while not logged in). She stated that I should have marked that photo as private. So, I guess it's my fault they publically shared my information. Cool.

Our experience with KristyAnn was so bad that we actually canceled her services in the middle of the reservation! And called Rover to complain ( not that it did any good). She kept having to reschedule coming over to meet me and my pets so I should have known then it was going to be a problem.
She agreed to come to our house 3 times a day for 30 mins each but was only coming for 14-20 mins at a time and was coming at midnight and 2am. My dog is old so this was hard on her. The final straw was when she didn't show up for the morning feeding/medicine dose until 1130 which meant my dog hadn't been out in almost 12 hours. Her coming and goings daily was so sporadic and she was not staying as we agreed and paid for so we felt she was not giving our pets the best care and safety so we termed the contract mid week.
She has hundreds of great reviews but if you read them carefully they are for her watching pets in her home not in yours! There was another complaint against her for the very same issues we had and I wished I seen it before I hired and paid her. I'd never recommend KristyAnn or Rover.com again.

Rover review
July 29, 2019

I rate the dog/cat sitters as excellent. However, I feel that Rover.com as a company practices misleading procedures. If you book on a holiday you will be charged a higher rate. There would not be a problem with that, but they don't state if up front when you are emailing the provider, but later when you go to pay. This is a misleading business practice and they need to be more upfront about it rather than just apologizing about it from a customer service rep.

Listen, guys, I have the PERFECT scam for everyone that you CANNOT get in any legal trouble for! Create an account on Rover saying you will pet sit or house sit and don't do anything and still get paid! It's amazing and you can say you're available to anyone and everyone that asks you to watch their pet. Once it is booked, you can sit on your couch and pretend to go to their house, maybe stop by and eat some food in their fridge, scour the house to see if there is anything worth taking or throw some parties if they have a nice home! You can even take other pets that you are supposed to be watching to their house and store them there so you don't have to bring them to your house. Let them pee all over their furniture, destroy their belongings and walk away free and clear (and with money in your pocket)! IF someone tries to file a complaint, don't worry, Rover has your back! Rover will blame the damages on their pet and say the home owner was the one who took the belongings. You not only get paid, have to do nothing but you also have a team of people backing you while you do it! This is the scam of the century and if you don't believe you can get away with... well, about anything... while pretending to be a sitter on Rover, just read all the reviews of the pet owners that have used this service. Don't forget to invite me to the house parties you get to throw at these homes!

** this is obviously a tongue and cheek review showing how absurd it is that so many people have had negative experiences and received no compensation while those who are Rover "sitters" suffer no consequences for failing to do their job. I do not condone any of the above behavior

Tried Rover for the FIRST time and SOOOOOOOOOOOO disappointed. Will not be using them ever again. I booked with someone who was supposed to meet me. She canceled on me 3x. Two days before I was supposed to leave I messaged her and she ASSURED me she would be here the next day. I told her if she couldn't do it to let me know so that I would still have time to find someone else. 6:30pm, FOURTEEN hours before I have to leave, she cancels on me! When I call Rover, customer service was very unhelpful telling me that their pet sitters are "independent contractors". So basically they allow "pet sitters" to use their name and their platform but they don't care about the completely unprofessional behavior of their pet sitters! I've used other sites in the past that were way more helpful and concerned about the people that were using their website and would never allow behavior like this! Their petsitters are completely unqualified.
