RIU Hotels is falling behind their competitors when it comes to Corporate Social Responsibility. Hundreds of companies have adopted cage-free egg policies to improve animal welfare in their supply chains, but RIU is refusing and there are petitions circling around about this. They would rather ignore the issue and their customers instead of commiting to improving the welfare of animals.

Animal cruelty
April 22, 2022

I don't go to hotels or restaurants that cruelly source their food supply. This chain is well aware that they are using caged hens and need to pay attention. Many people are concerned about ethics, the environment and consuming food from unhealthy animals.

Stop cage
April 22, 2022

No cage-free policy
April 22, 2022

I was very disappointed to learn that RIU Hotels is ignoring customers about their lack of a cage-free policy. This is irresponsible and shows how little they care.

I was looking for a hotel for my next trip, and I came across some controversy on RIU's animal welfare. Apparently they are refusing to adopt a cage-free egg policy and blocking anyone who asks about it. I won't stay at a hotel that blocks concerned customers. Please consider changing your animal welfare policies.

I can't get behind staying at a hotel that mistreats animals. In this case, while you're enjoying your Spanish omelet, they are harboring hens in cages too small for them to turn around in. It's sickening. No thanks.

A company that is allowing one of the cruelest practices in our food industry does not deserve business. Confining animals in cages is a thing of the past and RIU seems to prefer profit over doing the right thing. https://animalequality.org/action/riu

While searching for a RIU hotel, I came across a petition that is asking the company to go cage-free, and I looked more into this and apparently the company is not only refusing to go cage-free (like many other hotels have done), but they are also blocking anyone from asking about it. This is not the way to go about addressing this issue. They clearly do not care about animals or their customers.

On the 5th, Her Mother returned to her room to find a used condom in her toilet, a condom wrapper by "Prudence" on her ironing board and other evidence of a room invasion.

I don't need to go into further detail on how disturbing this would be to know somebody had entered your room and did such a thing? It's a safety issue, as well as a hygiene issue. S

My wife called downstairs, nobody came upstairs to clean her room or move her to a new room (the preferred option). After an hour of waiting, nobody was coming to address this, they went to the front desk and made the same request. They told her to wait back in her room. I understand they did not want to wait in a room that has been used as a sex stop by a stranger. Two more hours passed before a cleaner came to remove the condom. The cleaner called the front desk to ask what she should do. Next, Victor Castillo responded with, "it depends who's asking". The result was they were handed two fresh towels and left?

This dumbfounds me. To keep this short, at 10:30 pm, 3.5 hours later, they finally gave her a new room after multiple requests. They did a lock interrogation and discovered nobody had entered the room aside from the cleaners during the guest's absence, this event occurred at 2:20 pm.

Victor Castillo informed my wife that there was nothing he could to help? Handed her Niels Alosssery's (Director General) card. Knowing this card did not have his direct contact on it. To this date not one manager or staff member has responded to any of our emails or calls. They absolutely do not care.

We went to Riu in the Bahama's. Hotel clean, staff nice. Now listen: look at all the reviews from this past May 2021 on other review websites too. What do they all have in common?
The hotel is outdated with restaurant sit down dinners! First come first serve for sit down dinners. This means at 5:00pm you stand in line for when the restaurant opens at 6:30. It's like fighting in lines during Christmas to buy a TV. Trust me it's aggravating wasting valuable time that you prepaid for only to stand in line every night hoping you can go to one of their sit down dinners. We only made the cut twice out of 7 nights! Believe me there were many angry guest who couldn't believe you couldn't make reservations any time! If you are ok with the buffet every night, go there. Trust-trust me, almost 2 hours per night waiting for 7 nights is 14 hours of waiting in line to enjoy a vacation meal. For that reason and that reason only, I will go elsewhere next year! This is a BIG deal. You are on vacation. You paid for this food and service! Go elsewhere.

I was very excited when Ive booked a trip to Bahamas,- RIU Hotel between March 28th 2016 and April 2nd 2016.
As turned around it was a most horrible experience I ever had.
The hotel itself has so-so food and service, but it would be not so bad, because our main purpose was to have some relaxed time at the nice beach.
On the April 2nd (Saturday) getting ready to leave, we realized that the purse with our passports and US $1500 were missing from my wifes bag, which we kept in the locker closet.
Immediately we went to security and wrote a complain report. They told us that it would be not a problem to get home because they contact the airport.
At the airport, of course, we were told that we need to present the passports and handled to us the tickets for Tuesday because we need to go to US Embassy on Monday.
When I called back to Hotel, they informed us that the purse was found in our room, but no money were recovered (it happened within an hour since we placed the complaint) I was told to pay $35.00 for delivery of my wifes purse to the airport, and told me to add that amount to the claim.
Obviously, they were covering up their service worker thief.
Now they refusing to admit the fact of the inside job and calling the incident a loss & found situation.
