I've been a Republic Services (RS) for a year now. Over the year, there have been a couple of issues that I find a frustrating as one of their customers. I hoped having a national company and paying a premium for service would lead to better service and higher level of professional but it has not been the case.
First Issue, They have repeated left half of the trash in my can (operator moving to fast IMO) and having trash fall outside of the truck. In one instance, they left almost an entire cans worth of trash in street for 4 hours. My neighbors and I picked up the trash after waiting for an hour because the debris continue to spread down the street.
Second issue is with their auto-payment service. I set up auto pay when I initiated the service. Within a few months, I get notice that my scheduled payment didn't go through so I needed to pay my bill directly. No direction on went wrong with the autopayment. They added a $5 late fee to my next bill. Needless to say, I called the customer service line where I was on hold for 20 minutes before I dropped. Just frustrating. You might want to consider another option when it comes to trash collection
I urge you not to use Republic Services! We were long time customers of Republic, but the last two years has not been good at all. They have become incompetent and expensive. We had a dumpster go missing from our property and we called the police to get them involved. The police told us to call Republic to see if they took it. Republic said no…but found out later that they did take it. They took it from the wrong church. There was a time in early 2022 that they missed 4 or 5 dumps in a 6 month period—from that time on I had to put it on my schedule and make sure they did dumped it when they said they would dump it. They refunded us just a little bit for those dumps missed…but not near the value of what we paid for. Just the last couple months, they jacked the price way up on us, and we went to cancel and they said we could not cancel because we were under contract with them. They can change all they want in the contract—but they will not allow us out of the contract. They charged us $1,045.62 to get out of the contract. It is sad to say, and a horrible testimony to Republic, but paying the $1,045.62 was worth paying just to get away from the service they provide! I could share more, but I think you understand the main frustrations we had with them. I am not one to share reviews, in a fact this is my first one. But, I want you to make sure you know what you are getting into if you go with them. We could not bring this long time standing relationship to a satisfactory end. I feel they care more about the money than they do about providing the service. If I owned a company, I would not hold people to a contract that have legitimate complaints. We will give them the money they want for us breaking their contract—since they broke it many times with us a long the way. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU FIND ANOTHER TRASH SERVICE! –Long time customer fed up with how things have changed at Republic.
I received a quote ahead of time that more than doubled when I got the actual invoice. They quoted me $18 per quarter for one container and $22 for the other. They did mention a one time delivery fee of $40 each for the containers. When the invoice came, there was also a total "fuel and emvironmental recovery" charge of $33 per container. So the $40 per quarter isn't 40, it's $106. I should have looked at site jabber first. I also should have researched the fact that the majority owner is Bill Gates.
Without hesitation, I would recommend Republic Services for your waste disposal services. We manage many apartment complexes in different counties in NJ and have been using their services for over 3 years. My account representative, Nathan Santlofer, has been a pleasure to deal with. Phone calls are always returned in a prompt manner and Nathan is quick to address any problems that may occasionally arise. If you need fast, efficient service at a fair price for trash removal, do not hesitate to use Republic Services.
They pick up your trash. I had a big pile of stuff to go. They said they pick up tuesday. They never did pick the stuff up. I called and called and called. The park manager had her maintenance guy pick it up. That was BEFORE pandemic. Now, i have a trash can with holes in it. Wild animals are getting into it. I saw a opossum and a raccoon. I've called three times and they push up the replace date every week. I ask for a manager. She said they'll call you. Nobody called. Their pitiful. They don't do anything
We moved to the mountains of Tennessee a few years back. When looking at the property we knew that rolling a can up and down wasn't feasible, so I called Republic. Before settling on proceeding or needed service, they sent a truck out to see if they could service our property, as our driveway is a 19• angle.
We came up with a solution of them changing out our dumpster monthly vs trying to empty it.
Our driver Andy is the nicest man and we've had no issues. I recommend them
We have paid for trash and recycling and over the past 4 months we've not had any pick ups preformed more than we have. 6 weeks now of our recycling building up. We have the City sending us letters. All they ever say is sorry they are short drivers and trucks. We tried to be understanding as that can happen from time to time but not for four months. We call and they say it'll be picked up tomorrow or today or in 48hours but no one comes. So it sits on the curb making us look tacky to the rest of the neighborhood who gets picked up weekly. We are finally switching but may have 2 months worth of stuff by the time that happens. Worst company ever.
We've lived here for more than 20 years and have NEVER had service like this. After 7 times of being missed we finally cancelled our service more than 2 weeks ago. Can is still outside. Yesterday they came and emptied the empty can BUT left it. That was a first to have them actually come on the right day to empty it -- although we were waiting to have the can picked up after cancelling service. Read these reviews, choose another service. I can't believe they're still in business...
Someone left a mattress on top of our dumpster and the driver came to empty it. You can see in the photos that he set the dumpster down right on top of the mattress and left it all over the alley. We've called 3 days in a row now and we are unable to get anyone out to fix this for us. It looks terrible! They just tell you they are going to dispatch someone to get you off the phone.
Truck broke half of a mature tree, 4 months ago, they wont return my call.
Truck ran into my building and ripped off a door and still wont return calls!
It was a hit and run, they never contacted to let me know they did it. Luckily both incidents were caught on camera.

Called office soon after team failed to pickup my garbage. Office promised pickup by 6 pm. No pickup. Recalled 2 more times with same result. Company knows they have county contract, so no need to respond to individual homeowner.
Quality of pickup over 20 years was excellent, as I was a very loyal customer who made the mistake of setting it and forgetting it (quarterly auto-pay). I signed up in 2003 with BFI which then became Allied which then became Republic Services. I was notified in August that my quarterly trash pickup was going up from $196.92 to $254.97 on 9/2/22. I called the Billing Department and they told me I was way overpaying and was eligible for promotions to reduce my cost. They transferred me to sales who offered only a minor reduction of the $254.97. I also noticed my recycle quarterly payment went up from $63.14 in 2021 to $110.71 in July 2022. I recently switched to Best Way and prepaid for one year of both trash and recycle for just $403.71. Shame on me for not testing the waters in previous years to expose that there's no standard rates applied by Republic Services. In their lust to make quarterly revenue profits, they appear to just keep radically raising prices to their customers who've rewarded them with decades of loyalty. Be wise, and check the market for competitive pricing before renewing to ensure you are not being taken advantage of for auto-billing loyalty.
I am moving and I called to cancel services. I have to use them where i am moving to as they are the only provider in the area I am going to. I am all the way paid up and will have a zero balance. Excapt i was just told that they charge $100.00 per bin removal charge, as well as a $60.00 service fee to cancel. I was very upset about this as no one ever told me about this, i never signed anything agreeing to it and they have no right to surprise bill. This is after paying a startup fee when i started services a year ago. $260.00 to cancel garbage services. That is more than 6, months' worth of payments for their service. That is absolutely insane. When i got upset they said that it was actually, (suddenly) $50.00 per bin, so it will only cost me $160.00 to cancel. That is still not acceptable. Absolute scammers.
Republic horrible trash company. 5 weeks didn't pick up my trash. Calling them every day. Always they say "sorry " not recommend.
Beware they are 3 to 5 times higher than other trash pickup companies.
When cancelling they charge a crazy fee for picking up trash cans and don't show up to pick the cans up on the date they give you. Very unhappy former customer. I will never use this company again.
Never really do ratings but figure ill take the time today to do it. Giving a 5star! Just because my trash fell over and I didn't make it to stand it back up yet. Truck came by and I watch the guy walk out to get the trash!. Props. To the employee.
I would give this company zero stars if I could. Our waste company was bought out by Republic and the service has been awful since day 1. First, they never show up to pick up the trash. Second, when you call to speak with someone in customer service it is a 45 minute wait to speak to a real person. I've spoken to 3 people over the past month and they all say they are taking care of the issue just to have to call the next person and find out they didn't. They want to turn us into collections because I haven't paid my bill however the bill is for services that I didn't receive because I had already cancelled with the company. Poor Customer Service. Poor communication. I honestly don't know how they are still in business.
I just canceled by service. They have charge me 1 month of service which I didn't use. I had switched to another company on the area. The new company Herrington charged least for 3 months of service the Republic charged me for a month should be no star
Republic stole hundreds of trash cans that were owned by citizens of our community after the city cancelled their contract. They had no list to collect cans that were being rented, just took them all regardless of what company it had in it or if there was none at all. They refuse to take accountability or return the stolen cans.
I cancelled service but yet they still call saying I owe money when I was paying yearly AND CALLED THEM DIRECTLY. The service has been really bad over the last two years and they still call me weekly about not being able to pick up trash services - Home
Answer: Only company that offered recycling in our area but obviously an over priced scam since both bins were emptied into same truck.
Answer: My guess is money laundering. I don't know what's in those Republic trucks I see driving around, but it sure isn't garbage! Also, they just don't care.
