Reddit Reviews Summary

The overall reputation of the company is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from perceived censorship and biased moderation practices. Many users express frustration over account management issues, such as difficulties in deleting accounts and unjust bans, which contribute to a sense of being silenced. While some appreciate the platform's diverse content and sense of community, the overwhelming sentiment is one of disillusionment with the site's environment, described as toxic and unwelcoming. This dichotomy highlights a pressing need for improved moderation transparency and user support to enhance the overall user experience.

Lawless bunch of thugs with Moderators who are the local gang leaders. Reddit goes out of their way to encourages and incite threats, harassment, and bullying. Further, they encourage others to do the same. Release of personal and confidential information is completely left to the discretion of moderators, who have a bias towards friends and cronies.

Not bad site!
March 28, 2018

This is awesome site to spend spare time and to a look at popular questions. Meanwhile, your account is limited until you upgrade your karma. This fact disappoints me a lot.

This review is for Half Price Books on West-port Kansas City Mo. I went in there to sell some books, movies and games. The books were Distributional Justice Theory and Measurement; Regional Anesthesia Analgesia and Pain Management; Malpractice and Medical Liability; 5 brand new paperback books; 1 wii game and 1 play station game. All the books are brand new and two of the books are listed on there website for the original going price of 184.00. Same book is listed on Amazon for 206.00. They are ripping people off and I think it is sickening. They didn't think I knew what my books were worth and tried to take advantage of me. Now I don't expect to get the full retail value but atleast a descent percentage and the fact that I had all that stuff and expensive books and they only offered me $13.00 when they are selling one of my books on their site for almost $200. I felt this needed to be mentioned, I bet they get a lot of people in there that don't know any better and will just take the price they give for the books. They have you go walk around while they make up these ridiculous prices. I am a reseller I buy merchandise by the pallet and I am always getting expensive books that I sell on ebay and amazon I went online to find a place to sell some of the books quicker and came across half price books, I called them and they said they couldn't give quotes over the phone and that they took all kinds of books but I would need to come down there in order to get a quote. I told them I would be driving far and needed them to at least quote one of my books and they declined so I drove down there and had my intelligence insulted with the price they gave of $13 please don't waste your time with this company, they are ripping people off like no tomorrow!

NOT user friendly
March 23, 2018

I came to reddit only for the sake of one group to discuss topic that I am interested in. I started to make comments, and first of all, on my second (!) comment it said I am doing it too much, so I have to wait n-minutes. Next, after I finally submitted 3 comments, and spent time writing them... they just deleted it because i am a new user and I need to quote "lurk" for some time! This is such a nonsense. I never seen big social website which was made so user unfriendly. If not this specific group, I would never come back. Still not sure if I will. Really made me feel that they don't care about their users.

I thought this site was a place for people to talk but when I wrote a question asking for simple advice they deleted it. I've read on other sites not to bother with Reddit and I thought they were exaggerating but turns out it's true. It's impossible to use this site for anything meaningful. But yet I've read very explicit sexual stuff on it but I can't ask for life advice? Stupid.

I'm unable to post or comment on anything due to having insufficient karma on my profile. And to get karma I need to write a good post or comment. Brilliant. And the worst thing that it gets removed AFTER I've spent time writing it so I can't know if it will be removed in advance and keep trying posting something useful to different subreddits which is consistently getting removed afterwards.

They will ban you for nothing. They have no life what so ever. All my questions were removed even if they had replies. Just terrible people all and all, very negative. Try and stay away.

This site is loaded with pointless content top to bottom. Most of the focus is on the upvotes and downvotes, namely on the poster's reputation.

Mostly idiots
January 20, 2018

Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. In this case, too much anonymity means idiots gather to talk about stupid things. I've even seen posters brag about committing crimes. The cops should come here to get freebies.

Reddit is horrible - too much censorship and vote manipulation. Moderators make up rules as they go along and selectively enforce them. The leadership was in the tank for Hillary.

Too hard to use
October 11, 2017

If I could find my way around it, I would use it. I also noted a lot af really nasty stuff being said that really should not be allowed. I dont read reviews filled with personal comments and swear words, so why have them?

I use it a lot but it allows a lot of hate subreddits and posts, especially subs like the_donald. The search function is bad, you need to type exactly what you are looking for or won't get any results. Also, I was once banned a while ago for making 1 joke comments about star wars and suggested Han Solo would die in the movie and was perma banned on that account for "spamming reddit".

There are a huge number of subreddits, covering almost every subject you might want to discuss. The only real problem is that their karma system motivates people to be agreeable, and to not contradict people. For example, if in the Walmart subreddit, they're expressing their hatred of customers, you had better not say anything in favor of the customers, or you will lose a lot of karma. Or if you post something funny in a typical subreddit, a lot of people won't get the joke, and will think you're just being silly, and you're likely to lose a lot of karma that way. They need to repair their karma system, to not motivate people to give everyone negative karma. And even the positive karma is usually for the wrong reasons. It makes the whole thing a lot more boring than it would otherwise be. But Reddit, in spite of its problems, is infinitely better than City Data forums.

There is one default 'front page' that has the most voted items from a default list of subreddits (subgroups within the main group). It takes a little time to learn how to use, e.g., to select the subreddits you're interested in and eliminate the ones you aren't, otherwise, there will be a lot of material that doesn't interest you. If you want politics, pick some political subreddits. If you want cat videos and cute pictures, choose those. Christians, atheists, Islam, etc. have their own groups as do most countries, cities, etc. There are also different ways to view each subgroup, e.g., most popular, newest, most controversial, best of, etc. Anyone can start a subreddit if they're willing to moderate it, and there are THOUSANDS of them. It takes getting used to but ANYONE can find what interests them. Pay attention to the posts you like as they'll tell you what subgroup they came from and you can subscribe to it, likewise unsubscribe to the ones you don't.
