I feel very unwelcome on this site because I love my country and I'm proud of my president. Why is that even relevant to a knitting and crocheting site?

Huge variety of patterns available from beginner to very experienced. Plenty of paid and free patterns. Ability to keep your library of patterns onsite and catalog your yarn stash. Very helpful community. Have been utilizing Ravelry for 10+ years and look forward to continuing to do so.

I have had an account with and purchased many patterns through Ralvery for approximately 6 years. Due to their recent change in policy, I had no choice but to delet my account.

I have never shared anything political on the Ralvery group.

They have a right to make their policy as they choose; however, I cannot and will not remain affilated with a group that judges and lables our President and anyone who supports him "white supremacist".

WOW! I can't even wrap my head around this kind of delusional thinking.

I don't know how a knitting group becomes such a decisive group, but I'm sorry to say it has.

They say they will not allow any hate speech, however their own policy IS hate speech.

Technically a good site and I liked it for years, but now? Nope. Owners decreed that support for our country and our President brands you as a white supremacist. U.S. Flags are banned. 'God is Love' is banned and considered Hate speech. But F**K Trump is okay. NOT a place that feels good. Haters trolling and baiting. Just a summer camp for bullies now with a fascist owner. Don't bother spending years amassing patterns and organizing your projects there because one day YOU will be on their hit list and all your work was for nothing.

Thus is THE place to find patterns, both free and otherwise, to get ideas and help with all your fiber arts questions, to keep track of your own work, etc. In addition, it's a vibrant community of knitters, crocheters, spinners and weavers from all around the world. The diversity is wonderful. Recently, there's been an exodus of some ugly minded people who can't stand the fact that they are not allowed to bully people of color, LGBT+ individuals, etc. on the site.

Knitting is a passion shared by a diverse group of people from all over the world. Ravelry decided to label anyone who didn't not submit and conform to their ideology and politics as either a white supremacist or as being supportive of that disgusting ideology. They have chosen to alienate a large portion of their members who won't conform. I didn't even vote for the guy! Their efforts to hid their intolerance and bigotry with the use of "pretty words" is apparent to any thinking individual. It is time for wise people to step up and denounce the brown shirt tactics being used and refuse to be silenced.

There is no room in the creative process for bullies. Who I vote for, or support, is no one's business. How I treat other people is what is important. Calling members names, and banning due to preconceived notions of who people are is unacceptable. The owners should never manage anything connected to the public.

Run by bullies
July 13, 2019

I was hurt to be called a white supremest by people I have never met. I am a minority woman and I guess I didn't follow their narrative of a down trodden POC so I was banned and called hateful names. It's not worth the time to even be there anymore

I will miss Ravelry's large pattern marketplace, but that is ALL I will miss. I was a member for 2 years, and had purchased 68 patterns in that time.
Yes, PURCHASED. I'm pretty tired of those who are defending Ravelry saying that it's no loss that many members have quit them. They mistakenly believe that 'we' were only there for the 'free' stuff.
Um, nope!
In fact, I never participated in the social media aspect of the site, until the day they announced that I had no voice there. That's fine, you go ahead and be the 'only groupthink is allowed here' bullies.
Meanwhile, those of us who treasure ALL discourse as a process of working things out and finding commonalities will create inclusive spaces where rational, well formed, and politely shared opinions matter.

Stay as far away from this site as possible. The owners support and perpetuate bullying against certain groups of people based on race and political affiliation. They claim to be "tolerant," "inclusive," and a "safe space," however, this only applies to those with whom they agree. Ravelry has become an echo chamber for hate speech against those with Conservative points of view.

I loved the communities I was a part of and was happy to keep politics out of it, even when I cringed at their open push for things I disagreed with. But when they automatically excluded everyone who voted for Trump and called them white supremacists, it was like stepping over a line that was terribly unprofessional to cross. And what no one is mentioning is that even though the very week they closed their registration, they added 1500 PAGES of new members with empty profiles (no pics, no patterns, no projects). Also, out of the 8 million plus supposed members, less then 1 million of them have any sort of profile picture or avatar. Sounds rather bot-like and extremely suspicious. If you look further into their member lists, back in May, apparently another giant batch of "members" were added the same way. Rather odd! Why would you do that? Except maybe to monetize and profit from this somehow? It was time to say goodbye to a corrupt and unwelcome place.

Ravelry is the greatest site for knitters and crochets hands down. You can find great groups on a variety of topics, scour their pattern library full of free and for purchase patterns by great designers who have their own groups so that their fans can interconnect with each other and share tips and advice as well as find out where they may have gone wrong. This is fabulous and wish I had found out about Ravelry when they opened up.

I enjoy Ravelry because it is a specific-interest website for knitters and crocheters. I love that it has a drop down menu for an individual's personal notebook, which includes a messaging function, as well as creating one's own library of knitting projects, yarns, patterns. I also like the navigation bar where visitors can go to find patterns, yarn, fellow knitters, groups, and a discussion forum. Public vs. individual is very well delineated ~ horizontal navigation bar for public information and vertical menu for individual information.

I love Ravelry because they have provided a site to find patterns, designers, and yarns, as well as a wonderful, safe place to talk with fellow fiber artists all in one spot.

It is an easy website to use. I love being able to create a personal database of my projects, patterns, and yarns all in one place as well as meeting fellow knitters in their forums.

They are an inclusive community dedicated to making everyone feel welcome.

Awesome service!
July 15, 2019

Ravelry is the best, most inclusive website out there for fiber artists. It has patterns, both free and paid, and forums that cover almost any topic.
Topics that can't be discussed are ones that constitute hate speech or show support for white supremacy.
A lot of people have recently left and started posting negative reviews wherever they can because of the addition of showing support for white supremacy to the rules of Ravelry. More specifically, Ravelry said that "support for the trump administration was support for white supremacy. " Many people mistakenly equated this to being called a white supremacist, and called anyone who tried to explain the difference a troll.
So, please ignore the negative reviews. Read the TOS with an open mind and decide for yourself.
Ravelry really is a great place.

Having been bullied off this site once before for having a different opinion on Brexit, I returned using a different name. Total membership was 9 years but after being alerted to their latest policy, I am absolutely disgusted at their racist attitude towards white people! President Trump does NOT support white supremacy and nor do his supporters and I am livid to be placed in that category! I believe the Ravelry owners have been bought out by the likes of George Soros and this policy is a 'test' to see how Conservatives react to being banned, before Twitter, Facebook and Instagram do it! Vile people - account deleted! :(

How can you...
July 13, 2019

How can you possibly call Ravelry a place for all when you have clearly made it a place of hatred, & bigotry, and you only include those that agree with your Political stance? I have NEVER brought politics into anything crochet related. Because it's not the place for it. Banning hate speech is one thing, labeling a whole group of people on some bad apples is utter nonsense. You should remove all politics or leave in all politics. Why do you think this is ok? This is a Hate filled, bigoted group of entitled thinking jerks. I was a member for many years. That has definitely changed.

Used to love this site but they have recently become unwelcoming and hate filled. They do not allow people who have conservative values on the site.
