They have a large problem with copyrighted patterns being stolen and resold under the thief's name. This has been brought to their attention multiple times, and yet they do nothing about it.
I love Ravelry. I get all my shawl patterns there and I knit many. Love the ideas of what yarn to use and getting advice from the designers. Thanks Ravelry!
Let's focus on what ravelry is there for. Yarn arts! It has, since its inception, been THE site to find patterns, many free, to sell patterns of your own design, to research yarns, and to find literally any information you could ask for about yarn, knitting, and crochet. The site is as politically neutral as you will ever find. Been on it for about eight years and never bumped into anything political. Not one time. Enjoy Ravelry 100% and completely support their enforcement of their longstanding rules against hate. <3.
I think you can tell by reading the recent rash of one star reviews that it's just a bunch of disgruntled people who did not like being restricted from expressing support of white supremacy.
If you're wondering, I suggest you go to ravelry and read the part where they have expressly completely welcomed everyone of any and all political persuasions as long as they simply don't post their hate. Seems a small and abundantly fair ask.
Ravelry is the website I trust more than any other. The staff go above and beyond to look after their millions of members around the world. Customer service is astoundingly good. Other websites could learn a great deal from Ravelry.
I've only ever received great service from this fine company. Great variety of patterns and difficulties. Principled organisation.
Once a knitter joins the Ravelry community, then they are really a knitter! I am so very proud to be a member of Ravelry. There is nothing you can't find, with respect to knitting patterns, no matter how unique. Unless you are the kind of knitter who knits the same patterns over, and over (eg dishcloths, baby blankets, plain hat), you need Ravelry! Ravelry is a wonderful company. I feel completely safe spending time on the Ravelry website, because there is no hate, no discrimination of any kind. All knitters are welcome!
They allow the harassment of conservative users, while labeling things like campaign slogans (keep America great) or religious patterns (God is love) as hate speech. The so called white supremacists that they banned from their site were any people with patriotic patterns/avatars (for example, a Betsy Ross avatar is unacceptable, but Kathy Griffin holding Trump's severed head is fine), Christian views, or political views that opposed their own. This is not inclusive. Its divisive and stomps on the freedom of expression that Americans are accustomed to enjoying. It is hate disguised by a diversity statement, and anyone who agrees blindly and doesn't dig deeper into the cause is buying into this farce.
Ravelry is wonderfully inclusive and has worked hard to be that way. They only exclude individuals who want to spew hate towards others.
Been apart of this site since it started. I was just learning how to knit and all it offers has helped me getting better at my craft. Love the pattern library. And while there are political elements I am not there for that. People who have left ravelry due to censorship that is your choice but political stuff dont belong in crafting.
Will never use them again. If you aren't a liberal leftist they are discriminating against you. Hope they now go out of business
They single-handedly created a political divide in what was a peaceful community of crafters. Calling all Trump supporters racists is ridiculous. They say they are inclusive but they're really just bullies who hate free-thinkers.
Amazingly useful, fun, and friendly. Multiple search and filter options, makes crafting easy. Inclusive policy is really not a problem unless you are a bigot.
I've been a member since early 2009, and Ravelry is a site I visit daily for patterns, yarn reviews, learning techniques, and help with my projects. Wonderful, free service that never disappoints.
If you have yarn and need a pattern, want info about yarn, looking for a yarn shop, are looking for a specific item or a place to commune with fellow knitters, Ravelry is it. Easy to navigate with an encyclopedia of knitting patterns and yarn information, it is a must go to site for anyone interested in the fiber arts.
Ravelry made the business decision to publicly announce that support for white supremacist policies are no longer welcome on their site. I applaud this decision. I have been a member for 10 years, and was proud to be a member the day the policy was announced. This is a great yarn and pattern database that is open to all to use, just take support of white supremacist policies and politicians elsewhere
Raverly is my go to place when I need a pattern. Used it for years. Will continue to use it for years to come.
Recently Raverly put their foot down and became more inclusive. This upset some people who can't come to terms with the kind of person they support. So my advice? Check out raverly yourself. You'll see how awesome it is
Unfortunately Ravelry has proven over and over that their way of "including" everyone is to alienate others. Those being alienated have done nothing wrong other than a different opinion, which they didn't even express. This company is contributing to the divide in our country and that is not something I'd like to be a part of or inadvertently support.
I love Ravelry I have been a member since 2011. I commend them for being a leader when it comes to providing safe spaces for oppressed minorities. They also happen to have the largest catalog of paid and unpaid patterns I have ever seen on the internet. What's not to love.
As a long-time knitter, I am happy that there is a site like Ravelry that can meet all of my needs. I am also very proud of their inclusion of all minority's policy.
Patterns, projects notes, help from community, info on yarns and designers - it has everything and more. A lot of conservatives are angry at Ravelry for putting a policy in place of forbidding support for Trump and/or his administration, because it equates to support for white supremacy. They did this to protect their diverse community from some horrific acts. Anyone is welcome on Ravelry, just not to openly support Trump etc. I applaud this step and am even more firmly behind Ravelry than I ever was.
Answer: Ravelry refuses to support bigotry in any form and states so in its TOS. It is a privately owned platform and they are well within their rights. They have absolutely not banned Christians or conservatives, only speech that supports bigots and bigotry.
Answer: Because they are creating a culture of ignorance and hate in the name of politics.
Answer: This has nothing to do with Ravelry. Sockmatician is receiving feedback on a post he wrote and then heavily edited.
Answer: In the notebook section, go to your library. Choose your pattern and there will be a download button. Alternatively, for free patterns, on the main pattern page there will be a link to click to download the pattern or, if it isn't hosted on Ravelry, a link to where you can find the pattern on another website.
Answer: Can you point to any reviews that are actually doing that?
Answer: By email / by downloading it - If you purchase a pattern on Ravelry, it is a digital download.
Answer: How interesting that I answered this question several hours ago, but now *POOF* my answer has magically disappeared. WHICH PROVES MY ASSERTION. This site is helping Ravelry suppress opposing points of view. What that means is, this site is not objective and cannot be trusted for accurate information concerning the businesses that are reviewed.
Answer: I would imagine that it has something to do with Ravelry insisting that their ignorant behavior be defended. Even if that means many will no longer take sitejabber reviews seriously. I mean, how could I? Sitejabber is now guilty of silencing dissenting opinions. Just like Ravelry.
Answer: Laura J., the negative reviews are also objective. They have been posted by real people such as me, reporting real experiences past and present. True assessment of a company needs both sides of the story. If the negative reviews disappear again, it would imply someone from Ravelry is exerting undue influence over SiteJabber. There was mention in an answer to a similar question about some people a "Boycott Ravelry" group using fake names and addresses to post fake reviews. I was not a member of that group, and know some of the people posting reviews since the initial ones were deleted. We are not fake. We speak the truth, whether you want to hear it or not.
